The parallels, in Imogen, who had spent years, and years, and years, running from the storm. Felt that fear in every inch of her and had fled it, for years. The only directive she ever had when the sky turned red, her only defense. Run. And only recently, so recently, had she started to do something else, started to screw up that courage to walk into it, to face it head on, to do something, anything, other than run. Sitting after a nightmare in the darkness with Fearne and Orym and Laudna around her, promising they'll be there, promising they'll help, promising she isn't alone.
The parallels to this battle, to her, running, her being quickest and cleanest to exit, heart in her throat, hoping against all odds they can get out too-
She's running, of course she's running, she's hiding, she hasn't left, not yet, but she's running.
And Orym falls.
Orym falls, and Orym was the one to put a hand on her knee and tell her, intent, urgent, that she wasn't alone. Orym, sweet Orym, who trusts her, right? To do good, to stay good-
And she stops running, and she gets angry, and furious, she flies up, she plants herself as a distraction, as a prize, demands STOP.
She flies into the eye of the storm.
(The eye of a hurricane is the calmest part. The rest of the storm rages on).
Far below, Fearne falls. Fearne, sweet and fickle and a matched pair with Orym, Fearne who watches her with worry whenever she wakes up shaking, Fearne, who wrapped a bracelet around her wrist so Imogen would know when it was a nightmare, so she could look down and know she could just wake up and be surrounded by them again.
(Is the bracelet still there? Would Imogen even want to look?)
Pleading, now, desperate, angry, negotiating- what do you WANT? What do you want. Her friends, her friends, scattered far below and hurt and broken, scraping themselves together and trying so hard to haul themselves upright, trying to give each other those last little scraps of healing. Trying. Trying so hard, so far, far below.
"I want you to give in"
(It felt wonderful.) (Maybe I should just give in.)
She doesn't give in, she doesn't. She fights. She attacks. She tries to give herself up.
"Is she your favorite?"
"Ill go with you! I give in!"
She tries. She tries. She tries to give up. She tries to give in.
Laudna falls.
Imogen doesn't give in. The storm takes her.
The storm takes all of them, by the end.

Not me thinking about what could happen if Mister gets the shard!
Think about it.
He’s an elemental so the shard likely wouldn’t burn him.
He could gain more fire powers, the flames that make up his body possibly turning white or blue with how hot his temperature has become.
Ashton has an arm made of lava rock which could be a perfect perch for the wielder of the fire shard.
If Ashton and Mister are near each other perhaps it gives them a benefit for their elemental connection.
It would be much easier for them to sneak around since they’re one person and a monkey.
Perhaps Fearne could still gain an ability since she is tethered to Mister.
I dunno, I just think Mister makes the most sense to me.

Some outcomes of Critical Role episode 91 (that happened either because of or completely separate from the big thing)
SPOILERS!!!! YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED!!!
Starting with the ones not due to FCG's sacrifice:
Liliana has some level of trust and attempts at redemption with her daughter (those 31's on deception and persuasion Laura you legend!), which means a major player (and VESSEL?? tf was that about) who was formerly (and maybe kind of still) on Ludinus's side is swapping over
Ashton and Fearne are about to be exhausted from being Titans (Ashton much sooner since they powered up in ep. 90)
Zathuda is both proud and angry towards Fearne which is both terrifying and a bit heartwarming(?)
Nana (I think/hope it was her bending fate) was able to help Team Infiltration escape the Weavemind after Orym reached out
Now for the other outcomes due to FCG's sacrifice:
Orym's deal with Nana should be void since the group cannot return as they were (VM Spoiler Note: Liam's PC was finally saved from a deal leading to a life of service by Sam's PC after he wasn't able to in C1)
Chetney is ALIVE! I'm counting this as part of the sacrifice bc due to weird leveling circumstances Sam sacrificed his one brand-new 7th-level spell slot to take Revivify, which is a major thing to give up
Otohan is DEAD! GONE! That is a MAJOR player off the board and another one of Ludinus's high-ranking members off the board
FCG is dead, seemingly unrevivable based on how Matt phrased it (asking to make sure Sam understood what it meant). That will have MAJOR implications going forward.
On a D&D technical level, there is no primary healer meaning that Fearne has to take some healing spells or the party can't heal at all (pretty sure they used up all their potions during that fight).
On a character level, this is going to be devastating. Ashton, who started this whole adventure with FCG and has been saying for a LONG time that FCG was going to get themself killed, was unconscious when FCG made the ultimate sacrifice. Sending works, which means when they get back to Exandria, Imogen will probably be the one to let FRIDA know what happened.
On a slightly lighter note, I feel like Travis is going to shine next week. It's been said before and I'll say it again, Chetney is the heart of Bells Hells. He knows how to be there for this family and I have a feeling that will come to the forefront as we see the aftermath
I'm sure there are more outcomes, but these are the ones on my mind after barely sleeping last night following that episode. Sam knows how to play this game well and cuts straight to the heart while doing so. It was masterfully played and while completely devastating to watch, was also incredibly heroic and beautiful.
Good game, great players, amazing DM, and of course thank you Fresh Cut Grass for being a Faithful Care-Giver until the end

So I know there was some speculation (complaint?) that Fearne should have been perma-banished back to the Fey Realm when FCG did the self-banishing to get away from Otohan.
Which, fair enough. She's a fey being and has lived over one hundred years in the Fey Realm.
But, technically, the Fey Realm is not her Plane of origin.
Fearne was very specifically and purposefully born on Exandria for the plan to make her be Ruidusborn.
So, assuming the spell interprets "Plane of origin" as "the Plane you were born on" and not "the Plane you currently have residence on/have lived longest on," it's actually following the rules for Fearne to be dumped in a demi-plane with FCG.
Also, while Ruidus is magically locked away for most things by a mini Divine Gate, it is still on the Prime Material Plane. So that's why FCG (and Fearne) didn't/couldn't perma-banish out of that fight.

A less talked-about but no less interesting part of God Discourse I've noticed is that amongst the There Is Nuance Here crowd there's a weirdly pro-Betrayer God attitude; like there's examples of gods being bad right here (see: The Actual Devil in Literal Hell), but we're choosing to focus on Melora for some reason? Fascinating levels of dissonance here.
So here's the thing. I've found that this has also been an evolving position.
I think during EXU Calamity, the main argument was pro-Betrayer God. Some was that Asmodeus was in fact played masterfully; Zerxus, after all, fell for it. The rest seemed to be to me the usual dull "but I wanted it to be subversive" argument, upon which the motivations of that desire I can only speculate (and such speculation, while entertaining, is not productive). I would argue, Calamity was not lacking in subversion, notably with the portrayal of Vespin Chloras and the fact that this was ultimately an immensely hopeful, if also deeply tragic story of an averted annihilation.
I think currently? It's the Wild West, at best. I don't have much to add other than what I've said already, and unfortunately it does require either familiarity with the posts I'm thinking about or me doing something as tacky as publicly posting screenshots to get the full context. Suffice it to say I've rarely seen such unformed and unsupported arguments. They are phrased in apery of a coherent argument, but, crucially, lacking the evidence.
Getting back to your point I think the focus is more on the Prime Deities because those are the gods whom past characters (and FCG) were affiliated with. I honestly don't think most of them have the lore knowledge to recall deities who have not come up as directly in game; they're focusing on Melora because they know who she is. Possibly because she was Bor'Dor's deity; possibly because she was the deity who reached out to Orym and was insufficiently clear in her communication to Fearne to satisfy them (and yet we stan Liliana, queen of clear responses, amirite?); possibly because it's edgily rewarding to them to fantasize about upending and destroying Caduceus, Fjord, and Fy'ra Rai's lives. Similar arguments can be made for Pelor and the Raven Queen; one can point to the genuine harm mortals have done in Pelor's name and the fact that the Raven Queen collected on a deal, willingly made, from Vax, and you get to weakly and cringingly tell yourself you are dunking on people who like Vax, or Vex, or Morrighan. It is interesting to me that people are not focusing more on Lolth given her appearance and the fact that Opal's choice, while technically willing, was much more manipulated than anything the Raven Queen has every done. Lolth behaves in canon as idiots believe the Raven Queen to have done in fanon. I've found a significant number of the arguments against the gods rely on a profound misattribution or at best deliberate avoidance of what is voluntary vs. what is coercive or done without consent (eg: comparisons between Judicators and Ruidusborn).
Basically: they bring in the Betrayers when it's convenient for the argument and cherrypick around them when it's not; they do the same with the Primes. There's just a lot more to pick from with the Primes.

Now that I have some time to collect my thoughts after the exam, here are some of the thoughts that have been running through my head.
Ashton is straight up not giving any shit about Liliana
Orym tries but it is really hard for him and I loved watching the two of them snap and not cut corners today.
Other than that, I loved Imogen's stance on Liliana on a technical standpoint, not trusting her but at the same time cooperating enough to try keep her on your side as an inside man? Genius.
Liliana is in too deep on the other hand, maybe not about the motives of the Vanguard but on the release of Predathos in itself. Like Ashton pointed out correctly, she is self delusional and if she doesn't remove those tinted glasses, she's gonna lose her daughter.
Also, what the fuck is wrong with her??? Leaving them all in the state they are in at a very likely active warzone and vanishing? Yeah, I suppose it took some power but she could at least ensure their safety??
Orym with Otohan's sword and storming off *chefs kiss*
Finally some emotional check-ins going on, clearning the air out. Though I am curious about Laudna and her comparing them all to being creations. I mean, in a sense, it is true I suppose...
Imogen is "destined" to release Predathos as it is a part of her.
Chetney was turned into a werewolf
FCG was literally built
Fearne was specifically made to be born on one of the Ruidian flares. And Fearne taking up the Shard also, I suppose.
Ashton was in a ritual which made them Earth Genasi and then later on were literally patchworked by Milo
Laudna was merged with Delailah and is technically kind of her vessel of sorts
I think Orym isn't the only one who wouldn't fit under the "creation of destiny" or "has been created" thing unless I am missing something...
Orym and Imogen's convo and how the two of them talk about family and his partial breakdown at the situation (I miss FCG too 😭)
And finally the sending and Orym's cry for help 😭😭😭😭🥺🥺🥺🥺🥺 Someone give that man a hug?!!!
Speaking of Dorian, I love how the episode cut to the Crown Keepers after the sending and personally, it made sense for it to come at that particular point.
Listen, I would've loved to have some more time with the Bells Hells and their grieving but. But.
Orym, in his last message to Dorian (which he had received and is headed to Zephrah as a response btw) asked him to meet Keyleth, so chances are, at the time the Hells came back, Dorian is at least halfway, if not having reached Keyleth.
If that were to be the case, there is a high possibility that the Crown Keepers are with Keyleth when the Hells are meeting up with her. and narratively, there is some shit going on with the Crown Keepers that are still unaddressed and just can't be brushed off lightly.
Maybe, maybe Matt had been planning on introducing them much later in the episode. But Orym's sending also gave a perfect opening because Matt (or Robbie) cannot send a reply as Dorian without knowing the outcome of whatever is going down with the Crown Keepers, as seen in this episode.
Therefore, the sudden cutback to the Crown Keepers made total sense in a narrative manner because at this point, if Dorian is going to be actively involved henceforth, the Crown Keepers are dragging along. Opal and the Spider Queen influence what will happen in the future quite a lot more than I think many may expect because
a) Opal has personal ties with Orym and Fearne and
b) the way the Spider Queen is going about the fight, if something bad happens and if someone is hurt super bad, Orym and Fearne have to know too, just like Dorian needs to know about FCG.
and c) Well, most of the Crown Keepers are involved with the Gods. Fy'ra with the Wildmother, Morri with the Duskmaven and Dariax with the Observer.
And with the recent lore bomb pointing towards Aeor, I am pretty sure the hells are going to follow up on that just for FCG's sake (maybe even call in F.R.I.D.A for the ride, please call in F.R.I.D.A!)
I am pretty sure I am spiralling at this point but at the end... all I want to say is, I love the way the episode went and ended. I cannot wait to see more! If it airs on Tuesday or Thursday alongside the Crimson Mirror finale or the Thursday after that? I can wait patiently for that arc of the Crown Keepers to end cuz I am pretty sure at the end of it, at least 2 of the Keepers are going to join with the Hells and one is going to be Dorian. Mostly.
Apart from that, I am just gushing about how the battle went between Opal, Ted and Spider Queen vs the rest of the CK!
The crystal shard memories that are liable to corrupt or shatter? Opal being related to the Luxon shit? The sheer memories and the Spider Queen's insistence on Opal leaving or killing her friends and forcing her to make an option? So much drama! So much fun!
I might have to catch the 2nd rebroadcast to truly appreciated the second half but. But *chefs kiss* loved it today
I got introduced to C3 with the Crown Keepers and hell if I don't love those babies.

now that we know that fcg is actually the oldest member of the party,,,, does he get to join fearne and chet in your senior citizens tag dkfjkdjk
Well, damn, you've got me on the technicality there. Alright, fine, they've got the membership card. HOWEVER, I would also argue the senior citizens club that Fearne and Chetney comprise is based more off of ~vibes~ than physical age. Chet has the "scolding the young-uns about their conduct" role down pat, Fearne.... kind of has the "gifting you with sweets and giving you questionable advice in dulcet tones". We'll give F.C.G some time to sort out their current identity crisis before declaring anything.
BUT, yes, theoretically, F.C.G could pull the age card. If he wants to.

Homestucktober 2023 (1-5)
1) Patron Troll
Tumblr media
Seer gang rise up ✊🏽 (I'd done two classpect tests since 2012 and both times I was a Seer, my aspect just changed from Void to Doom which isn't a good sign lol...although the one I just tried from 4chan is telling me I'm a Page of Void now...I mean I'll take it because it's an aspect I've gotten before but I'm not really trying to be Jake or Tavros out here they both got so screwed over lol)
Anyway if she were my actual patron in a game session I'd be fucking terrified because of what she puts John and Dave through but also probably laughing my ass off at her antics and impressed by her intense sensing ability despite the blindness
2) Favorite Beta Kid
Tumblr media
Dave Strider is much needed comedic relief in such a tragic tale and his ramblings are often as deeply philosophical as they are deeply ridiculous. I don't even have the right words to describe all this character has done for me. I'm in love with the Time aspect even though it's probably the last aspect I'd be assigned to because I think Time players have to deal with the multiplicity of the self the most out of everyone (except maybe Space players), and what a fucking difficult thing that must be. I will always wonder how he managed to spend IIRC weeks in the game whereas for everyone else it was just 24 hours (and of course Davesprite spending IIRC four months trying to fix his doomed session...my heart)
3) Favorite Beta Troll
(IIRC the beta trolls are technically the dancestors but I just call the original 12 the betas sometimes because they deal with the beta kids and we meet them first. Anyway)
Tumblr media
Again I don't have words enough to describe what Karkat has done for me. Karkat rounding up and trying to lead eleven other insane motherfuckers and losing his cool often but almost always asserting, in his way, that it's because he deeply cares. You really see this in Act 6 Post Murderstuck when we find him in Openbound and he's obviously dealing with the weight of having failed at leadership so hard that over half of his teammates are dead. It probably took him a while of raging at how long the meteor trip would be (and upset Sollux didn't stay after "dying" in front of him again) before the sadness set in, but if there's one thing Karkat isn't, it's afraid of emotion. Also the PCG, CCG, FCG conversations remain some of my favorites in the entire canon, especially the one where FCG berates CCG for "wanting [Terezi] in every quadrant like a desperate fool." If there's one thing I can relate to about Karkat it's that I will also always read past me for filth even if it's hard. I use it as a form of self pruning and improvement and eventually I think FCG gets that too.
4) Favorite Alpha Kid
Tumblr media
It was Dirk for a long time until maybe the last year or two, but I realized after re-reading the Epilogues that relating to him as much as I do is probably really bad lol, but Roxy was always a close second. Obsessed with the fact that the wild alcoholic, who one might think would be the worst team member because of that, instead sobers up and fully embodies John's role as the "friendleader" which is why I think they end up getting along so well. Despite the obstacles Roxy is full of love for their friends, and with friends like the people who they end up becoming in the Epilogues, you gotta hand it to them for their persistence. Considering that they were in a Void session their positivity throughout was pretty amazing to me, also shout out to them for fully embracing Calliope's skull appearance and finding them beautiful anyway. Alien love wins
5) Favorite Alpha Troll
Tumblr media
Okay but can we talk about the fact that she ends up alive??? As a huge stan of hers since we started seeing her I was fucking living my best life lol I can't hate it whatsoever even though it was at John's expense 😭 Meenah's one of the most determined characters in the entire thing fr, she really said "fuck being dead for millions of years after isolating myself on the moon to avoid responsibility, now I want all the responsibility, all of it." Fully meets Karkat again in Candy and is like "lemme reverse what HIC did and use my ancient Queen powers to benefit the mutant," imo an incredible foil to her future self even though they're very much the same troll and speak pretty much exactly the same. Fish puns are hysterical to me most of the time, her unwavering dedication to the shtick 4x as hard as Feferi did it and editing/improving ones she doesn't like in the middle of her sentences 😂 I cosplayed as her at AX 2013 and had a blast, except for that Cronus cosplayer who tried to hit on me in character, I had no idea what to do lmao

um, so this micro moment in ep 32 expanded in my head likely more than was necessary BUT HERE WE ARE many severance hours later. Who of the bells hells are willing and able to disassemble FCG in a not creepy way? The answer is, VERY FEW. enjoy ~
Also i… titled the comic “disemblement” accidentally instead of “disassemblement” both of which aren’t technically words and hi I’m neurodiverse.
Also also I was talking with a dear friend about how I can’t believe I missed tumblr until age 32 bc I’ve never had a space to just… lay. out. my detailed and high-affect thoughts about the fandoms that have me by the neck. so. yay ~

There’s a crucial difference between the Bells Hells and the Mighty Nein (and it’s not that they’re level 7 instead of 5 during their first real decimation, though that doesn’t hurt with FCG having an extra 3rd level slot).
They’ve got connections. They’ve got Eshteross, a wealthy patron with an airship and plenty of networking through him, AND they’ve got PLENTY of goodwill built up between him and them. They’ve also begrudgingly got Jiana Hexum, and while I’m sure Ashton wouldn’t be too keen on owing her again, they might be okay with it if it means they all survive this shitstorm. (Hell, they’ve even technically got Keyleth, but I sincerely doubt they’d call on her for this for metagaming reasons.)
Where the Nein accessing a Resurrection spell was all but improbable, the Hells actually stand a fairly good chance. They may need to call it the biggest favor they owe to Eshteross/Hexum, but they still have a fairly decent chance of bringing back the ones they lose from this encounter.
We have no way of knowing which player will want a resurrection and who’d rather pick up a new character, but I’m feeling pretty confident that whoever doesn’t get a revivify will still have the opportunity to continue their story.

For the AU game: how about, the earth shard gives Ashton the ability to fuse with members of the Hells into one superpowered being, like with fusion in Steven Universe? The 'wrong way to multiclass' AU
An interesting idea!
I'll admit, I never really watched Steven Universe (or got into Dragon Ball Whatever-Era-Introduced-Fusion-Ha!), but it's thankfully an easy enough idea to follow.
Anyways:
Wrong Way to Multiclass AU
Fusing with Laudna gets weird because Delilah is there too. And honestly, it kind of freaks Delilah out a little bit because she's pretty sure a barely creative use of that ability could allow the definitely-not-a-genasi-because-they-can't-do-this-shit to separate her from Laudna by taking her into themself, then unfuse her from themself, then have the little cleric robit (or some other holy person) exorcise her vulnerable spirit, thus severing her last tether to the living world. Also, the Laudna-Ashton fusion is able to draw on Delilah's spells because she is technically part of that mess (super wild wizard-warlock-sorcerer-barbarian multiclass)
Even when fusing with the small folk of Bells Hells, the new form doesn't lose any of Ashton's height because titan enormity overrules their shortness. Also, while on the subject of titan=enormous, all Fearne-Ashton Wild Shape forms are super-sized specimens
Bells Hells probably notices Ashton's self-worth issues sooner thanks to the FCG-Ashton fusion being way too self-depreciating and eager to please for that to belong to just one or the other
The Imogen-Ashton fusion is pretty ruthless (see Imogen and Ashton's thoughts on an appropriate approach to Dancer in ep70). Anyone who threatens Bells Hells is in for it when faced with this fusion
Chetney is probably the most eager to participate in the fusions because he gets to feel young again and stronger than ever. Chet-Ash is definitely the fusion with the most raw physical strength
Send me a potential AU and I’ll tell you five fun facts that would happen in a story.
