Nawab Sultan being enamoured by Umrao.
she weaves honey dipped poems with the chord of life to create lingering melodies. when she sways from side to side, only addressing a few with those eyes; the rest of them heave. they keep a hand on their chests, anticipating and awaiting that brief eye contact. but she’s a cruel woman, this Umrao, she doesn’t pay them heed. her voice is serene and her movements intoxicating. donned in this white Anarkali, she’s more divine than goddesses. what had those poets been writing in history? for they hadn’t seen this celestial being. if their poetry was heart wrenching for the maidens they yearned for back then. their words would turn into swords and knives if they were born in this era to witness her beauty.

My recent watch. I think I am in aww of Dipti Naval. And ofcourse Dipti Naval and Farooq Sheikh's chemistry. These movies are not just some drama, but in each film there is a commentary on the society (some things are still relevant), comedy (genuine), romance (without cliches), commentary on the films made at that time, criticism, feminist point of view. I think they are better films than any films made in that time-period.

“My father was put by Nehru in jail, still I am not the one who will abuse him,” sayd Farooq Abdullah outside Parliament
In an exclusive interview with a leading news house, Farooq Abdullah talked about his father and how Union Minister Amit Shah had blamed Nehru for the misteps taken by him.
The National Conference’s veteran leader Farooq Abdullah said “My father Sheikh Abdullah was put by Jawaharlal Nehru in jail but still I won’t abuse him as it is due to Nehru that Kashmir today is a part of India.”
“They (BJP) want to tarnish Nehru, did he do nothing in 17 years? If Nehru was not there, Kashmir would have not been a part of India. Let me tell you frankly…Kashmir would never have been part of India. It (Pakistan) is a Muslim-majority country and we would have gone to Pakistan. It was Nehru who saw to it that it stays with India. This they forget. I don’t know what hatred they have for Nehru in their mind, I don’t understand. My father was put by Nehru in jail, still I am not the one who will abuse him because he did so much for this nation. This nation can never forget what he has done for us. Today, if we are standing proudly, the basis of that nation was set by Nehru,” Abdullah was recorded saying outside the Parliament.
Amit Shah on Wednesday in a parliament session said that the problems that Kashmir is facing today are because of the two blunders Nehru committed. He said that it was Nehru’s biggest mistake to announce a ceasefire when the Indian forces were winning which led to the formation of PoK. “Had the ceasefire been delayed by three days, PoK would have been part of India. The second blunder was to take our issue to the UN (United Nations),” Shah said in Parliament.
Later, Abdullah, during his interview, clarified that Shah’s statement wasn’t correct. “You can’t tarnish the image of Jawaharlal Nehru. Shah must know the facts. Why were the troops suddenly shifted to Poonch and Rajouri? Because they were in danger and they would have been part of PoK today if the troops hadn’t shifted to save that region which is today part of India,” Abdullah said.

Travel Tips for Visiting Dubai for The First Time
Tumblr media
Are you traveling to Dubai as a tourist for the very first time? Let’s explore some travel tips, so that you can get the most out of Dubai during your first time visit in here.
Getting Your Visa
Unless you hold a passport from a Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) country, you'll need to obtain a visa to enter Dubai and the United Arab Emirates. Dubai visa for US Citizens has a validity of 30 days. You can apply for it online before coming. Be sure to have a printed copy of your visa approval letter before boarding your flight.
The visa process is straightforward but do give yourself enough time to complete the application to avoid last-minute delays. Double-check that your passport meets the validity requirements and that you have adequate blank pages available.
Booking Accommodations
When choosing where to stay, consider proximity to the metro system which makes it easy to explore different neighbourhoods and attractions. Staying somewhere along the Sheikh Zayed Road corridor puts you near many popular sites.
For your first visit, consider staying in Deira or Bur Dubai on the northern side of Dubai Creek. This area offers a fascinating glimpse into old Dubai before the mega-development began. The Al Fahidi Historical District is packed with traditional architecture, souks, and museums.
Packing Tips
What you pack for Dubai depends largely on when you visit. If visiting in summer, pack lightweight, light-coloured clothing along with hats, sunglasses, and high SPF sunscreen. For other months, bring some warmer items for the evenings, but shorts and T-shirts will likely suffice during daytime.
As a conservative Islamic society, Dubai has a dress code requiring shoulders and knees to be covered when exploring mosques and other religious sites. Avoid excessively tight, sheer, or revealing outfits.
Getting Around
Dubai has excellent public transportation including the Dubai Metro, which has stops near most attractions. Taxis are widely available and offer a comfortable way to travel between farther flung neighbourhoods and sites.
For crossing Dubai Creek, you can take an abra (traditional ferry) between Deira and Bur Dubai. If spending time on the beach, the Jumeirah Beach Residence and Dubai Marina areas are best accessed by car or taxi.
Exploring the Neighbourhoods
A great way to begin exploring Dubai is simply walking around the Al Fahidi Historical District to admire the traditional wind tower architecture. From there, stop by the Dubai Museum and Grand Mosque before taking an abra across Dubai Creek.
In Deira, wander through narrow lanes and covered souks bursting with gold, spices, electronics, and textiles. Don't miss the bustling Deira Spice and Gold Souks.
Cross back over the Creek to see the outdoor markets and boutiques of Bur Dubai. Stroll through textile and carpet souks before visiting the historic Al Bastakiya neighborhood. The Dubai Frame's glass observation decks provide excellent views.
Sheikh Zayed Road is Dubai's glittering skyscraper corridor. There's plenty of shopping at Dubai Mall and dining at The Beach JBR entertainment complex. Don't miss the iconic Burj Khalifa, and book tickets in advance to go up to At the Top observation deck.
Getting out on the water is recommended, whether by traditional wooden dhow boat or sleek modern yacht. Many companies offer sightseeing cruises or dinner cruises with live entertainment.
Visiting the Mosques in Dubai
To experience Islamic architecture and culture, devote time to visiting some of Dubai's ornate mosques. Non-Muslims can enter many mosques in Dubai but be sure to dress conservatively.
The Jumeirah Mosque is particularly welcoming to visitors. Free one-hour tours operate daily to share insight into Islamic traditions. Cameras are allowed.
The Iranian Mosque features intricate blue tilework and detailed arches reminiscent of ancient Persia.
Built in 1900, the Al Farooq Omar Bin Al Khattab Mosque is one of Dubai's oldest. The intricate carvings and decorations are worth seeing.
The Grand Mosque dwarfs them all and is a key landmark of Bur Dubai. Be sure to see this magnificent structure illuminated at night.
Heading to the Desert
No visit to the UAE is complete without experiencing the desert landscapes. Choose between a Desert Safari with dune bashing, camel rides and barbecue dinners or a serene overnight stay at a luxury desert camp.
Arrange an excursion through a reputable tour company for a smoother, safer experience. Morning tours work best in summer to avoid the punishing daytime heat.
Shopping and Dining
Shopping enthusiasts flock to Dubai for good reason. Enormous malls like Dubai Mall and Mall of the Emirates house every global brand imaginable. Seek out traditional Emirati handicrafts and souvenirs in the old souks and the Dubai Creek Park markets.
Foodies will find diverse culinary delights. Sample Emirati cuisine like harees (wheat porridge) or machboos (spiced rice). Dig into tender Persian kebabs or fresh Indian curries. Jumeirah Beach Road has a terrific selection of restaurants.
With this handy first-time visitor's guide, you'll be equipped for an amazing introduction to spectacular Dubai!

EXCLUSIVE: Ananth Narayan Mahadevan admits that Naseeruddin Shah SHOCKED him when he informed him that he liked Himesh Reshammiya's The Xpose: "'Sir, subah se koi mila nahin kya?' I joked. But he was dead serious."
Typically, filmmakers create films in a single genre. At most, they might shift between genres in mainstream or niche cinema. An exception is Ananth Narayan Mahadevan. On the one hand, he has made sensual thrillers and romcoms, but also thought-provoking and festival-friendly films. During an exclusive interview with Bollywood Hungama, Ananth Narayan Mahadevan discussed it. "I was doing a lot of television where I worked with some of the big stars," he explained. With Kabhi To Milenge, I introduced Rati Agnihotri to television. I collaborated with Satish Shah, R Madhavan, Farooq Sheikh, and others. That's when Viveck Vaswani approached me with Dil Vil Pyaar Vyaar (2002), saying it will be a film with published music.
Tumblr media
It piqued my interest because it had three love stories: boy meets girl, boy loses girl, and boy regains her. We got down with the cameraman and created three color palettes: the boy meets girl track used spring colors, the boy loses girl track used grey and black, and the boy regains girl track used earth colors. The encounter was enjoyable for me. Dil Maange More (2004) was a wild date movie. It was particularly entertaining because it stated that you do not usually marry your first love." "Then Sujit Sen, who wrote Saaransh (1984), came up with the idea of Aksar (2006)," he continued. The producers were looking for an erotic thriller. It had this strange concept of a man pleading, "Help me divorce my wife!" I should not have given in to the temptation. Following Aksar, there was Aggar (2007), Victoria No 203 (2007), and The Xpose (2014). For me, Victoria No. 203 was a wonderful learning experience. I'll never attempt another remake." The Himesh Reshammiya-starrer The Xpose stands out as a discussion topic. According to Ananth Narayan Mahadevan, "the premise of The Xpose was fascinating." It all came down to the stars. The stars' picture was bigger than they were. They believed in it and went crazy. It wasn't a serious approach to filmmaking."
"Today, I won't say these films were a blot on my filmography," he added. In addition, I only made seven of these films. But I believe in 13 films: Mee Sindhutai Sapkal (2010), Red Alert (2010), Staying Alive (2010), Gour Hari Dastaan (2015), Rough Book (2016), Doctor Rakhmabai (2016), Mai Ghat (2019), Bittersweet (2020), Life's Good (2022), Aata Vel Zaali, The Storyteller, The Confession, and Phule. When told that his commercial pictures were entertaining and Aksar was, he commented, "That is a tragedy!" Naseeruddin Shah informed me at a book launch event, "Ananth, I enjoyed the film." Gour Hari Dastaan had not yet been released. So I was curious how he saw it. I inquired about him. 'I'm talking about the Himesh Reshammiya film,' he said! 'Sir, subah se koi mila nahin kya?' I joked. But he was dead serious. He revealed that he thought The Xpose was "stylish, colorful, dynamic, and so on." "Himesh Reshammiya then came up with another script, of Teraa Surroor (2016)," Ananth Narayan Mahadevan added. 'Nahin, ab bahut ho gaya', I told him. However, I presented my friend Shawn Arranha, who directed it. Then I saw Naseeruddin Shah in the poster. He actually bought it (smiles)! In fact, I applauded Himesh for the manner in which he promoted The Xpose. 'No film of mine has been marketed as well as The Xpose,' I told him. I get a kick out of folks asking, 'Can you make another The Xpose?'" Was he happy with The Xpose? "All I can say is that this is the genre of cinema I have left behind," Ananth replied. I will never make another formula film again. The term'mainstream film' does not bother me. I want every film to be popular. Our audience isn't well-educated or cinema-literate enough to recognize that Gour Hari Dastaan is mainstream. It is referred to as "parallel cinema." 'The kind of cinema you guys make is parallel cinema,' I responded. "This is film."

So bring all on level playing field- MULTIPLYING NO OF TKTS SOLD AT WORLD BO WITH ONE TKT PRICE ACROSS THE BOARD. Fair. . . Apt to acknowledge here, that Bollywood films of the 21st c., leave aside the (obvious) quality gap, would also suffer greatly at a systemic level, the new 'Mutiplex culture' being tailored for 1 week to 2-3 week runs at very best, naturally stunting even the potential for repetitive audience in large numbers, that contributed greatly to films of the 20th c,. especially 60's & 70's, where witnessed b.o. at it's peak! This screening culture, as part of the vicious cycle of the new age, thus in turn also contributing to stunted artistic insight & outlook.
