Fractured Mirror: Redux (Inspired by Destcember 2018-2020) Chapter One: Guardian and Ghost
Hollow. That was the right word of this feeling. The feeling in the Guardian's chest as he sat in his lover's old jumpship, adrift in the asteroid belt. Revenge was his, the score settled. That wouldn't bring him back, though. And now, seeing that the Awoken Prince had been just another pawn in the Grand Game of Queens, Jay-7 sat feeling hollow. There were no tears, no sadness, no sobs threatening to rip out of his throat. The curses and anger were gone. Numbness remained.
He stared into the stars. Was it all worth it? Tearing across the Tangled Shore, the carnage. He'd forsaken his path, his friends, his family, and now. Now it was for naught. Jay reached out a hand towards the Sun, blocking its dimmed rays. He became vaguely aware of his Ghost's presence as they hovered at his right shoulder, their common place when they were alone.
"Was this what you thought would happen when you rezzed me, Dally?" His words were soft, hoarse. "All of this madness, the anger, the killing. Is this what you wanted? It couldn't have been. I'm so sorry."
The Ghost was silent for a moment, contemplating he could tell, before they spoke. "I knew that you were the one. And I knew, come hell or high water, you were mine and I would be with you until the end." They moved into his line of sight now, hovering mere inches from his face. Their bright white eye met his own glowing orange. "I knew you would be a great Guardian. That didn't mean you had to be a perfect one."
The Warlock snorted. Before he could speak, Dally continued.
"Jay. You are my Guardian. My partner. I've never doubted that, or you." They bumped softly against his cheek. In a whisper, they said, "I'm sorry they took him from you."
Those words brought a flood of feelings back, and a lump formed in the Exo's throat. "S'all said and done now. I loved him. I still love him. I probably always will. But he isn't coming back. The only way now is forward. To pick up the pieces." He choked up, clearing his throat as he continued, "I just thought we had more time. I thought we'd have all of time. Till the end."
Dally gently nestled against his neck and jaw, humming softly. They sat this way for hours, watching the stars.

In a time of great prosperity, a tyrant king sent his son to live among the people and learn their ways. He did so for many years, until a great calamity befell the kingdom.
In the aftermath, the tyrant's son was changed. The tyrant's son turned away from his father, and became a warrior. The tyrant chased his son across fields and mountains and oceans.
He said, "If I can't have my son, then no one shall."
In the end, the tyrant used his son's love of the people against him. He promised him a miraculous technology that could rebuild the kingdom. When his son came to claim it, he unleashed a plague upon him. His son was destroyed.
And the tyrant looked upon his tyranny and wept.
