For the next few hours, Rex dozes against the cage, one hand holding Katai's. He twitches occasionally, and twice wakes up practically panting with lips that still don't open. He's silent the whole time, though.
When the clock reads 2:13, the door opens and several people bustle in. Rex, startled awake by their noise, squeezes Katai's hand before he drops it and assumes a kneeling stance next to the cage, his posture again a mirror of Katai's.
The people approach the cage from all angles. One of them holds cuffs, and reaches through the bars to attach one set to each of Katai's hands. He cuffs Katai's hands in the same position they've been in, and detaches the chains that were holding them there. The chains fall to the floor where they were anchored, and he tells Rex to gather them up.
It's an absent-minded order, but Rex follows the directions almost eagerly. He's shaking a little as he does, but no one seems to notice.
With a coordinated effort, the cage is lifted unto a flat bed cart, and the group takes the cart into the hallway, chattering about unrelated things amongst themselves. Rex is told to follow, and he does, all the way down the hall to an oversized elevator that everyone crowds into around Katai. When they exit the elevator, it's into an even more sterile white hallway.
The cage is taken to a small dimly lit room and unloaded unto the floor. Rex is directed to sit next to it. He leans against the bars, shaking, and doesn't look up from the floor when a manacle is closed around his left wrist. Someone attaches a chain to it and to a shackle on the wall.
They inform him that he should be able to reach all of the small space except the door and the side wall. They tell him he's expected to keep the area clean until he's allowed out. Rex whines, long and low, and nods without raising his head. The person pats the top of his head and heads over to Katai.
He reaches into the cage, very cautiously, a small lock in his hand. He does something to the back of the muzzle, and when he withdraws his hand, it's empty. He turns to leave, and pauses at the door.
"I know you're a good boy," he tells Rex, almost fondly. "Just keep behaving, and I'll see if I can convince the doctor to let you at least have some water next check-in."
Rex lowers his torso in a kind of bow, and whines for a long moment again.
"There you go," says the man, and leaves the room, turning the light off as he goes. Unlike the room upstairs, there's no cozy LED strips on the floor, so dark seems to swallow everything at once.
Rex is not cooperative with the people as they move him, but he can't exactly fight. And he doesn't want to to hurt himself and cause Rex more pain than he already has. The image of that barbed wire dipping in and out of Rex's skin won't leave his mind.
Once the cage is put down in the small room, Rex has a chain attached to his wrist. Katai growls low in protest of that, twisting a little against his own restraints, although it does no good.
The man next locks the muzzle onto Katai's face— presumably to keep Rex from taking it off again. He glares hard at the man the entire time.
"I know you're a good boy," the man tells Rex after he's finished locking the muzzle. It seems almost fond. "Just keep behaving, and I'll see if I can convince the doctor to let you at least have some water next check-in."
Katai growls again. All these people really just see them as animals, don't they? Well if they want to see them as animals, maybe Katai should give them a reason to.
"There you go," says the man in response to Rex, and leaves the room, turning the light off as he goes. The room is plunged into a deep darkness.
Katai is silent, then, protected from sight by the dark, tears start to fall, silently.

ੈ✩‧₊˚Donnie x Reader 💜
ੈ✩‧₊˚cuss warning!
ੈ✩‧₊˚Donnie loves to talk about his inventions! Everyone knows that. So when he gets near the reader, why does he get so quiet? Anyone sniffing out some 2018 glmm? Many adventures indeed, some easy while others aren't.This is the prologue btw.
(chapter 1)
Something had been off about Donnie. You weren't sure why, but everytime you walked in the room his face would turn slightly red, and he would start mumbling in the middle of his science rants. If you had made a move to stand 6 feet from him, he would either find somewhere else to sit, or he would leave the room. The weird part was, you and Donnie were besties. He would let you into his lab, you ask him about his day, and sometimes he would even let you help on the small parts of inventions!
Nowadays he avoids you, every time you walk in his lab he stays quiet the whole time. One day even went as far as ignoring you the whole time at the lair. When you asked about it, his face got red, he looked to the side, and walked away slowly. At first you thought nothing of it, maybe you got a bit close to Donnie and he needed space, but this has been going on for almost half a year. The only words you guys occasionally share are "Hey", "greetings", and "see you later". And don't get me started on texting.
"Is he angry at me? If so, he needs to let me know…what's going on Dee?" I asked as I was laying down on my bed, the room decorated with bits and pieces of sewer decor from the turtles. Mikey and Leo would show up and give me small rocks, chunks of cool shaped metals, and vintage or rare items that were once lost. To put it simply, my whole room looked like a garage for a mini hoarder.
My phone fell on my face for the umpteenth time, I'm pretty sure it's supposed to be bruised by now.
As soon as I sat up, I got a text from the team's group chat. I think I'm their getaway, and sometimes last resort to things because I don't join missions often. Which is fine with me, I have school and exams for the end of the year.

I honestly hope he's breathing
I can never tell what u guys do

Dee is not okay 😥
As Mikey was the last to respond, I closed my phone and grabbed my shoes and hurried behind my apartment. I lift the cover and look away, needing a few moments before the stench went back into my nose. I jumped into the sewers, already regretting it as gunk splashed onto my legs. I gag aggressively, this shit is chunky and slimy as fuck. No matter how many times I jump in, I will still never get used to it. I get out of the weird stuff, and run on the side, rushing to the lair.
I'm so glad I memorized the way from the house to the lair, or I would've been lost by now. I see fairy lights as I approach the turtle's home, no one seems to be in the main atrium. Infact, the whole place seems to be empty, except for Donnie's lab. I huff heavily and groan at the thought of having to climb after running.
I climb up to the second floor and walk towards the purple doors. Me not running, and not doing the pacer test has put a strain on me. I stood up straight and fixed my hair, along with my clothes, and took a deep breath before knocking.
"Hey guys? You in there, you said that something's wrong with Donnie?" I called out, a few beats of silence before the door suddenly opened. I was instantly dragged into the room of tech, purple and blue lights tinting everything inside. Turns out, it was Mikey who grabbed me. He looked panicked as we went towards Donnie's computer.
"Leo said something about you taking too long? And then Raph went after him, April is busy right now, and you know Dad…" Mikey explained as he shoved me to the screen. Looking closely, you could see a sprite of Donnie going in circles, like it was a loading screen.
"Donnie making a game of himself is normal, what's wrong?" I was starting to get impatient, if this was a prank I'm beating that turtle's ass.
"That's the problem! That IS Donnie!! We went to Mystic City, and Donnie bought this sketchy game called- i-don't know! it's these weird symbols!" He showed the case of the game, me only noticing now that his hands were shaking. '⚐☠☜ 💧☟⚐❄' was plastered along the screen.
"One shit?" I said aloud, the language confusing me. My hands were on my hips now, deadpanning at Mikey. Now this is just getting annoying.
"Huh? you can read it?"
"Of course, as a former Undertale fan, that font is called wingdings. That's not the point though, where is Donnie so I can shove this shi up-"
"B-but [name]! Donnie is in the game. I'm serious! He went in after he pressed start! Or enter? I DON'T KNOW!! I just want my brother back." He started crying, grabbing my legs and sobbing into my knees.
"hush sweet child, I'll get him out" I say, nearing my hand to the keyboard, struggling to stand because of Mikey's grip.
"[name]? what are you-waitwaitwait-Dont- NOO!" It was too late, as I had already tripped over, pressing the button. My body started to pixelate and slowly fade. Is this Jumanji? IM GONNA FUCKIN DIE-
"MIKEY GO TO YOUR BROTHERS, HURRY DUDE!!"As if the game had heard me, my body started fading faster, making me panic. Mikey went to go to the door, only to be blasted back by Raph and Leo.
"[NAME]? ARE YOU- oh shit"
"MIKEY WHY DIDN'T YOU WARN THEM?"
"I DI-"
As a last attempt for survival, yelled, "LEO LIKES DIii-" Cutting me off as my mouth was the last to fade away.
"Leo likes WHAT?" A gruff and deep voice said, before my environment changed a lot.
This was the last thing I heard, before I myself going in a vertical circle. Weirdly, it didn't make me dizzy, in fact it calmed me down. I then saw all white, before flashes of color spread all around me,

When Two Coffee Addicts Unite
Part 1
@maribatmarch-2k21 Day 8: Texting
Ao3 *** Part 2
Okay so this can either be a continuation of Internet Friends or the beginning of something new. But if you want to read this as a continuation of Internet friends then you should know:
The police department is almost as bad as Damocles when dealing with powerful figures. They take the video and audio footage and simply put it in the file. Because at the time Lila still had most or in fact all of the class under her thumb, they all supported Lila’s claim that it was an accident. Lila claims that a sudden dizzy spell struck her, and she fell forwards towards Marinette. And as Mari was already on the edge of the balcony it was an accident. The fact that the file sat in the police department until well after any claim could be valid it wasn’t looked into more. Mari, her friends, and Tim did have backups of the footage, complete records for every interaction with the police, and recorded calls and interactions when dealing with the police. But as they didn’t want to involve the embassy as this would become an international affair they didn’t bother with the case.
That said the police don’t bother with the Miracle Court to avoid work. However, with the Mayor, Medical responders, and the Fire Department all aid the heroes, the police only do the bare minimum.
Marinette’s class has begun to watch Lila, but they didn’t look into her lies because except for this incident it’s just she said she said with occasional ‘injuries’ on Lila. Most of them are wary of Lila but they aren’t converted to Marinette’s side, but there is an increased tolerance between them.
~~~~~~~~~~
Marinette had just sat back at her seat after eating lunch, while the classroom was still empty. There was still half an hour left. Alix, Kim, Nino, Sabrina, and Max walked in as she sat down.
"Marinette you got the time?" Alix called out. They were on somewhat okay terms since Lila’s claims were a total 180 from the Marinette that they have known for forever.
"30 minutes left." she announced looking of her phone and in turn her missed messages.
Tim:
       Mari
       Mari
       Mari
       Nettie
       Marin
       Bean
       Bug
       Marinette
Marinette:
       What's wrong.
Tim:
       I have back to back meetings starting in 3 hrs. until 5.
       and
Marinette:
       Let me guess haven't slept.
Tim:
       Exactly
       Help me please
Marinette:
       How many reports can you send me?
Tim:
       Quite a few
Marinette:
       Send me what you can.
       Review the rest.
       Take a nap!
       And I'll be a little voice during your meeting.
Tim:
       Thanks, I owe you Bean.
Marinette:
I'II hold you to that.
Tim:
       Sent
Marinette:
       Just make sure you wake up.
Tim:
       I make no promises.
       On second thought I don't want to find out how you are mad
She made it through the 15 minutes of class because Lila was akumatized. Lila had burst into the class followed by Alya, Nino, and Adrien. She claimed Mari cornered her in the bathroom and beat her a few minutes ago, showing everyone the 'bruises' on her arms. Chloe handed something to Sabrina who walked up to Lila.
"Oh, you poor thing," Sabrina consoled, Lila only whimpered. "Here this has a salve that helps bruises." She gently took Lila's wrist and wiped a 'bruise' which disappeared instantly.
"That's amazing what is it called?" Alya commented. "I should get some for Nora."
"Make-up remover." Sabrina and Chloe spoke together.
"Besides." Alix butt in. "Marinette's been here the past half hour and hasn't left."
"What?! How do you know?" Lila cried.
"Cause we've been here the whole time with her." Sabrina commented.
Marinette for her part didn't know or hear the conversation around her.
"Marinette. Marinette. Earth to Marinette," Kim shouted.
"Present!" She jolted practically standing. "Wait," she looked around, "class hasn't started."
"What are you hyper fixated on?" Adrien asked innocently.
"Just some reports, don't think you'd like them too much Kit-Kat."
"Fair," he shrugged sitting next to her. "So how were you in two places at once?"
"I can't," her head tilted to the side confusion clear on her face.
"So, if Mari hasn't left, can't be in two places at once, and your 'bruises' came off with make-up remover. How do you explain that Lila?" Adrien around, the class slowly draining their conclusions. However, Marinette spoke up. "She lied, obviously..." she stated having gone back to the reports.
"Um you said that out loud, Cake Pop, and loud at that."
"Huh?" sure enough when she looked around some were shock still, others typed furiously into their phones.
That was when Mrs. Bustier walked in, fifteen minutes late to the class. Which was also when the bandy contained restraint ended. Lila was akumatized, school let out, and the rest of her night went smoothly.
Tim woke up, and with her help survived his meetings. Some while on patrol she would constantly mute and unmute herself. Luckily, it wasn't more than twice, and they didn't run into anyone. Chat didn’t ask questions, figured it out since she was pouring over Wayne documents earlier. Tim would call her back after the private meetings and ended around 10.
At around 11 Tim text her back.
Tim:
      Thanks Bug you saved me today.
Marinette:
      No problem Draco
      You owe me though.
Tim:
      I remember.
      Go to bed it's like midnight over there!
Marinette:
      Yeah Yeah
Tim:
      Ooh
      Congratulations 2x!
Marinette:
      What???
      Please explain.
      Tim
      Tim
      Timothy
      Timothy Drake-Wayne answer me.
      Dragon please
      Ugh fine I'll sleep.
Which is what she did when he wouldn’t answer her.
She woke up the next morning to two emails from W. E.. The first was for a collaboration between W.E. and MDC for a show featuring Wayne Tech accessories and their new climate fabrics. She immediately responded and accepted. The second was that her class was one of two to be accepted as transfer students to Gotham Academy and intern slots at WE, she forwarded that to her teacher and the school.
Marinette:
      You Gremlin
Tim:
      Like I said congrats
      Oh, I need you to give me three names.
Marinette:
      What for?
Her mind was racing at the possibilities.
Tim:
      You'll find out.
Marinette:
      What’s the other school?
Tim:
      Some Prep school in the UK.
Marinette:
      Give me a Sec.
She opened another contact and typed.
Marinette:
      Hey, did you get a spot in the Wayne/GA internship?
Mystery:
      Yes.
      Why?
Marinette:
      Tell the others we are hitting Gotham with style.
Mystery:
      Very well.
Mari then sent three names to him and smiled. This was going to be fun.
-----------
Reader's pov
I sat next to my husband , King Edmund , as we waited for the reception to end . Yes , marriage reception . I and King Edmund were trapped together in an arranged marriage . It wasn't that we weren't given time to talk and make things less awkward , but maybe we didn't utilise it . He was too quiet to talk , and I was too stubborn. How could I help , I didn't want to get married ! I kept fidgeting with my fingers , a sign that I was nervous as hell and uncomfortable , as me and King Edmund sat too close . Our knees kept brushing , sending waves of currents down my spine . I wanted this to end soon but as much as I wished it to end early , it kept on delaying . Till now , Lucy had helped me a lot . She was the only one I was comfortable with till now . The dress I was wearing made me feel itchy , but I couldn't care less . I decided to get lost in my thoughts about my past as a princess . I had dreams , ambitions and I was determined to fulfill them . People called me the fearless . But alas , life had different plans . Instead of learning advanced swordfighting , I was married to Narnia's best swordsman himself . Instead of letting me wear shirts and harem pants like I did since childhood , I was made wear long gowns and dresses . Instead of having my independence , I was made follow rules and traditions . Instead of letting me use my excellent resourcefulness to plan battles , I was married to a king who is better than me and won't even need my help in plannings . Instead of letting me speak as I used to , I was made shut so as to maintain my kingdom's reputation in Narnia and ofcourse in front of my oh-so beloved husband . It was all too much to control inside and I was shocked by my abilities to supress my anger , annoyance and rebellions so much . I just continued to sit there with a poker face and occasionally smile . I was looking around , just to spot my in-laws looking so happy , or maybe there were amazing in pretending (with the help of trainings ofcourse) or they were genuinely happy . Every narnian was enjoying themselves , but I liked the Narnians . They were very warm and welcoming .
Time skip**
Now , the complete hall was almost empty , except for the castle workers , who were cleaning everywhere . My back ached from sitting for so long , but I was more than eager to get up and get some sleep so to as to escape the reality for a while . I got up immediately , the warmth from king Edmund's body immediately got longed for- wait , wat?! No no no , u shouldn't be thinking this y/n . I shrugged the thought away quickly , and soon felt someone beside me . Ofcourse , king Edmund . As much as I sounded creepy , I wanted to hear the handsome man's voice . He had spoken to a few narnians but that wasn't enough to memorize his deep , alluring voice . He carefully kept a hand on my back , urging me to move . I kept walking with him behind me until Lucy came into my view . I turned to look at King Edmund and , for the first time , I spoke to him "King Edmund , if u would excuse me , I wanted to have a little talk with lucy .." I added as much politeness as I could , despite my sour mood. He looked shocked for a second , but soon recovered . He opened his mouth to speak something , and I waited for it , but it never came. He simply nodded and walked away . It caused my heart to clench a bit , but I pushed the feeling away and approached my only friend (well , I know she's my in-law , yet ) and saviour , Lucy Pevensie .
As soon as I approached the girl wearing a cute floral gown , she turned in my direction , smiled at me . She politely excused herself from the castle workersshe was talking and came to me . "How was it??" She asked , excited about who-knew-what. " What are u talking about Lucy?" I asked her , confused . " Oh come on , me , susan and Peter kept all the guests away from u for a reason . Don't tell me u didn't talk with Edmund !" She spoke . I slowly let my head fall , biting my lower lip , looking at the floor . She sighed sadly and spoke "U are a perfect match for my brother . I shipped u with him from the beginning , but u have to talk with him , y/n. U remember u came across as shy in front of me too , but see it now , u are the more talkative one . U have to get comfortable with him so as to let him know that u are shy at first but then , u talk non-stop.." lucy lectured . I smiled a bit at it and spoke with a grin "Sure , ma'am , I'll try my best !" I and lucy ended up laughing a bit , but she spoke "I was a bit serious by the way " . I nodded a bit and spoke "Yeah , u are ryt lucy , but it's just the first day . I'll try my best from tomorrow . " She smiled at me . I bid her a good night and saw her walk away and into her room .I'll remember the way to her room , i noted it and turned around to see king Edmund looking outside the window , the slight cool breeze making his dark brown hair fly out of his forehead . His choclate brown eyes shone with the beauty that Narnia reflected. His palms clutching the pane tightly. He was so concerntrated that he didn't notice me approaching him . I had to clear my throat to bring him out of his daze . His head shot in my direction and he smiled a bit , leading me to his room-our room.
As soon as I entered his room , I felt homely . I was so glad to see that his room was clean and super organized . I liked it that way . I smiled . Maybe the room won't be that bad to stay in , I thought . The room had a small desk and chair , piles of papers neatly kept on it . A big size bed , a few windows and a big balcony , curtains flying due to the slight breeze . The room was dimly lit since the light from the windows wasn't enough due to the cloudy weather .
Time skip**
After changing , I was about to sleep on the bed when I saw king Edmund picking up one of the pillows and going somewhere . While his back faced me , I knew what he was doing but decided to question him to stop him "Where are u headed to , my king?" I asked adding my king as my mother had taught me to . He turned around almost instantly and spoke "To the couch , Princess " he spoke in an obvious tone , ofcourse it was a stupid question . I knew king Edmund was highly sarcastic (info credits to Lucy) and I appreciated his attempt of answering me with the least sarcasm . "No .. don't ." I spoke but instantly regretted . He looked wide eyed at me , a blush could be seen on his cheeks despite the dark . An awkward silence settled , but I cut it , speaking "The bed is quite big for the two of us to sleep " I said . "At a comfortable distance " I added it immediately. He nodded , understanding my proposal .
Time skip**
I laid on my right side , facing the end of the bed . Edmund was facing the other side , maybe asleep by now. My eyes started dropping due to tiredness but before I cud fall into sleep , a loud crashing sound jolted thru the room . My eyes went wide with fear as blue light stuck out in the sky . Lightening and Thundering . I hated it , hated every bit of it . I always used to clutch onto my mother and later my sister whenever it was thundering or lightening . I never knew that , in Narnia , thunders and lightening was far more worse than it was in my kingdom . But now, I had nothing except the blanket to clutch on . Tears started pooling my eyes as another sound rang thru the room causing my eyes to go numb for a second . I cupped my lips to not let a yelp escape . I didn't want to wake King Edmund . He would definitely think this was a stupid fear , because it was . I didn't know why , but the thunder had always terrified me . It was one of my worst fears . I had to go somewhere , had to hold on to someone before I start to cry . I slowly got up , shocked at my bravery , but sneaked out of the room (thanks to my trainer who taught me sneaking techniques for emergency situations) . The thunder sounds causing my heart to stop for a mere second , pushing me a step next to crying . There were only the gaurds in the passageway and I was thankful for it . I ran to Lucy's room , happy that I remembered where her room was . As much as I knew , she wouldn't judge me .
Time skip**
Lucy's pov
After y/n had come running to my room , I let her sleep with me . I was sad to know that she had to face one of her worst fears during the time where she was away from her loved ones. As she held my hand , she was asleep . But I couldn't sleep yet . Edmund should've been the one to comfort her . I have to bring both of them close to each other . But just to wonder , quite curious to know why she , the fearless , was scared of thunder and lightning . Maybe , there was a past that I was yet to know about her ..
Tumblr media
"What the hell, Y/N? Did you lose your way into the place?" One of your colleagues snigger at your delay in finding them. Eager to get this night done, you brush off his comment and pull out a seat next to him, finding yourself looking over where Ben is seated. Not a text or a call from him that would have 'warned' you that he'd be out for a drink in the exact same place you thought would help you eradicate 'that' problem. In hopes he wouldn't catch you or take heed of your presence, you turn away and participate in ordering your drinks, suppressing the urge to glance over your shoulder and blow your cover.
The waiter arrives with your orders and the rest holler in satisfaction as he distributes your drinks. You've ordered a martini but just because you decided to start with something light doesn't mean you'll stick with it in the following hours. It's just one night anyway, what have you got to lose?
Later on, Joe arrives at the pub alone, scrutinizing the place from top to bottom before marching in, straightening the collar of his button up shirt as his eyes rove every occupied table just to find you. To your demise, a large hand rests upon Joe's shoulder and spins him around, the hand belonging to an astonished Ben with a glass of whiskey in hand. "Mate! You're here!"
Joe's nonchalant expression flits into a surprised one at that, a little concerned on the inside since he knows you're here as well and he hasn't found you yet. "Ben, buddy! Great to see you again. " He throws an arm around Ben and pats his chest.
"You're back in London, what brings you here?" Ben asks, raising a thick, disheveled brow at him. Joe trails his bottom lip subtly with his finger as he debates on telling the truth or not, taking in account that you're here with your colleagues and nowhere did you mention anything about being with Ben.
But he just doesn't feel like lying to him, and so with a sincere apology reserved for you, he replies, "Y/N invited me over."
The crinkles under Ben's eyes fade out and he allows a stiffened sigh to slip past his lips with almost nothing more to add. "She's here?"
Joe nods as a matter of fact
"You two on a date?" The question sounds forced coming from Ben and Joe did not see that coming. He had forgotten that you had projected a fake relationship with him during Ben's birthday and now it came back hitting him like a mallet. He scratches the bridge of his nose awkwardly, avoiding Ben's scouring gaze. "Y-yeah, I gotta go find her, bud. We'll catch you later." In utter haste, Joe firmly pats Ben's shoulder before whisking past him to continue his search for you, leaving Ben standing a feet away from his own table, chewing over his thoughts. He snaps out and returns to his own circle, prompted to turn his head around the place to find you.
"Yes, I need another one of this!" You demand bluntly, slamming the seventh shot glass you've drunk from on the table but not hard enough to shatter it. You really stuck to your thoughts about intending to subject yourself to intoxication. Although it's not the best way to let go of everything that's bugging you, it was tempting. And besides, a little fun wouldn't harm you entirely, right?
Three out of six of you have indeed succumb to the influence of alcohol, and the sober half is trying to get you momentary drunkards upright, one of which is you who is getting real squirmy. "Y/N, I think you've had enough." Debbie, one of your sober colleagues, stop you from getting another shot.
"I think nooot." Your speech is becoming slurred as you prop your elbows on the table, grinning mindlessly.
"Please, this isn't becoming-"
"Let me handle her." A certain redhead volunteers from behind you, making Debbie's brows perk up as she suddenly recognizes Joe.
"Hey. Um, sure. She's had too much already and it's concerning."
Joe nods with a crooked smile and peeks at you over your shoulder with his hands positioned on either side of your arms. "Y/N, hey. You alright? "
You whip your head at Joe too quickly and end up headbutting him by accident. The both of you yelp at the impact but you recover easily, your droopy eyes widening a little as you recognize Joe, who's rubbing and squinching from the bump. "Heyyy, you're late." You giggle and pinch his pale cheek, leaving a faint mark.
Joe chuckles softly yet briefly and he sweeps your ends of your hair off your shoulder. "I'm sorry, got stuck in traffic."
"That's not nice."
"Look, Y/N, you're drunk. I think I may have to skip joining your 'party' and take you out of here." He says, worry filling his eyes but you whine childishly and slump on your seat, a pout on your lips. "I just want one more shot, just one more, no more no less."
"Y/N, come on," he looks down at you in all seriousness and is not taking any of that drunken stubbornness tonight. You angle your head to one side, eyes heavy and skin flushed from the heat produced by all the drinking, staring plainly at Joe whose expression could serve as a plea to you.
You sigh inwardly. "Nope."
To your inconvenience, your adamancy would now lead to something unwanted, something Joe reluctantly just thought of. "Okay, I might not get you to budge. Your boyfriend can't make you, right?" Joe presses his lips together and his brows arch teasingly. You shoot a rather lazy yet baffled smirk at him and he shrugs apologetically. "But your best friend might." He turns around and marches to get Ben but of course, being drunk, it takes a good minute for Joe's plan to sink in to your brain.
Not a minute later, he returns true to his word with Ben looking uneasy from worrying. He had to willingly excuse himself from Rosy and his friends to come to Joe's 'rescue'. Ben asks politely if the chair next to you is taken and Debbie shakes her head, gesturing for Ben to sit down. He does yet despite with him and Joe flanking you, you remain hard-headed, snapping your squint at Ben who's got his arm positioned on your shoulder. "Oh. What are you doing here?" You put a mean emphasis on your words.
"I didn't know you were here as well, but regardless, you're sozzled."
"So? That's my problem." The drunk sass could never be any clearer.
Ben sighs and glances shortly at Joe who responds with a clueless shrug.
"I don't want to comment on that but please, you need to rest. You've had too much. " Squeezing the side of your arm gently, Ben tries to reason out with you. You roll your eyes at him deliberately, sniffling as you flick a finger at him. "This is just one night. Don't act like you-" you trail off for split second, feeling your stomach boil as nauseatic feeling hits you like an omen. Joe takes notice of the abrupt discomfort on your face and asks. "Y/N, is everything alright-" Restricting him from finishing his question, you push Joe and Ben aside and sprint to the lavatory, miraculously pinpointing it in spite of your current incapability to make a beeline. Fortunately, the stalls are flat-out empty and you shove one open, flipping the toilet seat up and vomiting into it.
Joe and Ben excuse themselves from your table and scurry to the women's room, considering to look away in advance in case the room is jam packed with girls which is not the case as of now.
"Anyone here?" With his head turned away, Joe asks indecisively to which he doesn't get a reply, affirming the bathroom's lack of users, except for you. He and Ben saunter in and call out for you. You've slumped up against the door after regurgitating, overcome with fatigue and sweat. You hear their murmurs but you don't bother to fish for their attention, however your heavy breathing would give you away, which it has.
Ben knocks on the door you're against, cooing your name before falling quiet and hearing your uncontrolled breathing pattern. He nods at Joe and slowly swings it open, your tired body following the movement of the door as it creaks ajar to reveal you. Joe scoops you up on your feet as Ben drapes your other arm around his neck, allowing your weight to be equally distributed. "That's it, we're really taking you home." Peering down at you, Ben softly reprimands. In his eyes, you were never one to have this kind of excess overwhelm you. He always knew you for occasionally turning down invitations to drinks and now you've got him wondering what goaded you to drink heavily.
"I think I should take it from here, buddy." Joe suggests, shifting your body closer to his.
"Mate, she's really limp. I need to-"
"Temporarily. You need to get back to your table and your girl. She must be wondering why you've taken so long."
Ben mulls over it and the redemption he would have had for not finding the time to hang out with you. He's conflicted between leaving to accompany his fiancee and staying to take care of you. But Joe's the 'boyfriend' and to him it would be unfair. And so with a sad sigh, he removes your arm from his shoulder and tips your head back to clear your flushed face of hair, nearly planting a kiss on your mouth by mistake– however agonizingly tempting for a moment– and wincing as he draws back to kiss your forehead, hoping Joe didn't notice which of course he did, and he's trying his best to prevent a smile from twitching on his lips.
"Take care of her, mate. I just wish she'd tell me what's wrong." He frowns, smoothing his hair back with his fingers.
"She'll tell you on her own terms."
"I suppose."
Joe displaces you from your weak stance and you let out an incoherent mumble as he lifts you up bridal style in his arms. He hands Ben a small smile before exiting the bathroom and briefly approaching your colleagues to tell them he's going to be taking you home. Debbie nods and wishes him luck, allowing Joe to leave.
He sets you down in the passenger seat of his car and buckles you in, at the same time making sure you're comfortable. Meanwhile, Ben makes it out just in time for Rosy to interrogate him. "Where have you been? And whatever you did, what took you so long?"
He closes his eyes for a mere fraction of a second and shakes his head, the jerking motion loosening the strands of hair he had combed back. He tugs his seat out, wishing to not feel obligated to answer for once. "I was just helping Joe with Y/N."
"She's here?" Rosy asks snappishly.
"For a supposed date with Joe." He exhales disappointingly, nodding at one of his mates as he takes his glass up to his lips to drink away.
Rosy rolls her eyes at Ben's sudden change of demeanor, oblivious to the reason he's discouraged.
With you curled up in his arms, Joe struggles to grab a hold onto the knob of your door. He teeters aimlessly in a desperate attempt to clip onto his balance, you being quite fidgety in his arms making it uneasy for him. "Okay Y/N, we're here. Let me just get the d-door." He finally lays his hands on the knob and twists the door open, nudging it wider with his shoulder and stumbling in with you. You're pretty much still conscious albeit it's not your own, self-controlled state of mind. You're just getting there.
Joe pauses in his tracks as he feels you yank on his collar. "What?" He asks, voiceless.
"Where's...Ben?"
"Probably still at the pub. Let's get you on the couch. I'm gonna get you a cup of...something." Between each suppressed grunt, Joe lays you down carefully on the fabric, adjusting his waistband and excusing himself to get you something to drink. You drop dead on your side and curl into a fetal position, your eyes bleary and fluttering shut at the beckon of sleep. Shortly after whipping up a glass of lukewarm water and some Aspirin to relieve you of a headache to come, Joe comes back with the items on a tray, finding you on your side, dozing off.
A mildly satisfied smile lingers upon his lips and he lays the tray on the coffee table before you, going back to the kitchen to prepare a towel to dry your face of sweat. He returns once again with a basin and just in time for a knock on the door to catch his ear. Placing the basin next to the tray, he dusts his hands together and slides them downwards his shirt in the act of drying them, answering the door and finding Ben with arms crossed impatiently behind it.
"What are you doing here?" Joe leans against the frame, making out his visit to be utterly unexpected.
"I just...is she okay?"
"Yeah, she's fallen asleep."
Ben hangs his head low for a brief pause before shifting on his footing. "Mind if I get in?" Half expecting Joe to decline, he does otherwise, stepping aside for Ben to enter. He thanks Joe quietly and proceeds to find you knocked out real good on the couch. Softened by how angelic you look in your drunken slumber, Ben gets down on his knees before you, laying the back of his hand on your forehead to check whether you've caught the flu or something. Joe approaches his side with arms crossed. "She's alright, Ben. Might get a hangover tomorrow but really, she's okay."
Ben falls silent for a while as he continues to observe you, your delicate features causing a smile to pull on his plump lips. "It's crazy. I had to leave ahead of Rosy and the guys just to check on her."
"You're making it sound like a bad thing, bud."
"No," Ben heaves out an audible exhale, taking the free space at the end of the couch, "well, maybe. But my point is that I've been too busy for a week that I haven't been completely in touch with Y/N. I want to make it up to her. You wouldn't mind that, would you?"
Joe descends on the chair opposite of Ben, throwing his right leg over his left. "What do you mean?"
"You wouldn't mind me hanging out with her, for possibly a whole day, right? "
And with that, Joe gets the point. Once again, for the second time tonight, he forgets about the charade you both are still up to and it just really dawns on him oftentimes that you're in this pretend relationship with him to compensate for what you mistakenly said to Ben the other night. "Yeah, no. I wouldn't mind. But let me ask you a question. It may be personal but don't take it as an offense from me," Joe shifts on his seat, resting his hands firm on the armrest, "was there ever a time you felt something different towards her?"
As if looking back on something lost, Ben sighs and chuckles to himself, a chuckle enigmatic in feeling. "Mate, chill, okay? I'm just her friend."
"I'm not jealous. Just curious. In the time you've known each other, have you ever felt something for her at one point?"
Uncertain but obliged to answer, Ben interlaces his fingers together and talks just loud enough for Joe to make out. "Homecoming."
"Homecoming?"
"Yeah," he breathes out, stealing a quick glimpse of you and remembering how similar you look during that night, "I had another a girl with me that night but when Y/N entered the room...something just snapped in me. She looked...divine." Chuckling to himself, he blinks rapidly and continues. "I easily wondered why I didn't ask her in the first place."
"Well you should've, you clueless bastard." Joe grumbles inaudibly enough to go unheard and he's got a hand for that skill. Ben shifts on his end and presses his lips together, doing his very best not to stare at you long enough to anger Joe.
"By the way, mate. You're invited to my wedding." With the words coming unanticipated from Ben himself, Joe coughs harshly as a reaction, his eyes growing wider by the minute at the news. "Wedding- you've proposed?" He's trying his hardest not to shriek and wake you up.
"Yeah? I thought you- I thought Y/N had already told you."
"No she did nothing of the sort!" To make it more effective, Joe yells voiclessly, gesticulating at the same time. It stuns Ben for a second that you didn't tell him– Joe being your 'new confidant' and all– but recovers soon enough to make it more clearer. "Well now you know."
In Joe's mind, that's probably the reason why you've gone heavy tonight at the pub, and he's correct. It affected you the most, second being your departure for medical school. He was right for gaining the prospect that Ben was going to go for it the night you two had left his birthday early. Joe regains his composure and rises from his seat, ruffling Ben's golden locks which have been at their floppiest tonight, also finding it hard to utter the words in his head. "That's great, buddy. That's just...amazing." He couldn't even articulate 'amazing' without thinking of your reaction when you had known first.
Ben nods, his mouth twitching a tad, his voice cutting deeper and hoarser. "Thanks, mate."
Remembering that you haven't had dinner yet, Joe decides to have Ben look after you as he goes out to buy you something to eat by the time you wake up. Ben inclines to it, even if it takes Joe the entire night to get you food. Trusting you in his temporary care, Joe rubs Ben's shoulder and leaves him to it for half an hour at max.
By the second Joe closes the door, Ben gets up with the incentive and takes the damp cloth from the basin on the coffee table, tenderly sweeping strands of hair away from your face, his refined touch making you sensitive and shudder lightly on the couch.
He wipes your forehead and the warm contact of the cloth elicits a quick groan from your throat, the pout forming on your lips prompting Ben to grin ridiculously. He swallows and dares to lower his forehead onto yours with the cloth still in his clutch, the warm touch of his skin on yours sending a sensation through your unconscious body, bringing a lone tear to trickle down your cheek. He whispers to you in the frailest tone he hasn't spoken in in a while, squeezing his eyes shut in the process.
"Please, tell me what's hurting you..."
