god i hate that jk rowling used the term veela (vila) for her harpy-like seductress creatures bc like, in their original context (slavic mythos, particularly south slavic, and, in some contexts, west slavic) theyre like woodland fairies/nymphs.

and given that she refers to bulgaria as far north and cold its no wonder that she made them all blond haired blue eyed (🙄) (she doesnt know anything abt the balkans)

In your sphinx au is everyone a beast or are there still humans? Not necessarily the main cast but just humans in existance. I ask mostly cause i was wondering what they eat. Pretty sure they still eat fears in your au but are those fears from offscreen humans?

there are predominantly humans but everyone has the potential to become a monster

it is so funny to see non dnd people talking about the utility of the charm/friends spells saying its unfairly disadvantaged and being upset that npcs get mad its used on them cos like. its literally an evil spell there is no good use of it its the ultimate violation of someones agency and ability to choose

unhinged au idea that came to me while at work:

ex is a veterinarian, after having trouble after trouble with the people around him he found that animals are at least “tolerable” (no he doesn’t secretly love them no what do you mean haha) and went on to pursue his practice somewhere out in the rural countryside away from failed dreams and equally failed personal relationships.

one night, ex gets a rare call from xisuma asking him to check out ‘a bird that got shot’ which needs immediate attention. ex tries to defer him to an actually open 24/7 emergency vet clinic elsewhere but xisuma is oddly insistent that ex personally has to take a look at it while also giving as little detail as possible. ex stresses that he isn’t a wildlife rehab center and xisuma bringing in some sort of endangered wild bird could get them both in trouble with the law big time but xisuma claims ‘as long as no one sees them there’d be no reason for the law to get involved’ and it’s uncharacteristic enough of goody-two shoes xisuma that it startles ex into helping out, if only to rake his brother over the coals with whatever bad decision he’s neck-deep in.

so ex opens up the back doors to the clinic, expecting it to be some kind of eagle or vulture, maybe even somehow an ostrich just based on how big (and illegal) xisuma said it was. what he is not expecting is his brother to roll up in a van packed with his weird friends with blood all over his shirt and a wild look in his eyes. oh yeah, and also with a giant bird thing with a human face bleeding out in the trunk.

TL;DR: xisuma keeps bringing his magical monster friends to the only person he thinks can help and ex very much wishes he’d stop
