Everlark as parents--Katniss is definitely going to be the have-another-cookie, stay-up-an-extra-half-hour parent and Peeta will be the enforcer--"no, you've had two cookies already, now brush your teeth and go to bed, you have ten minutes."

But Katniss is going to be the super protective mom. The "I have to meet their parents before you go over to their house" and "no, I said no sleepovers" and "yes, I still have to walk you to school." While Peeta has to monitor her protectiveness and strike the middle ground. ("honeybee, you were going into the woods alone at her age, she can go to the grocery store on her own, it's only two blocks").

It keeps the toast babies guessing sometimes about whether what they're asking for is an indulgence their mom won't be able to resist giving them, or some unknown danger they hadn't even thought of yet.

Her favorite uncle

Another short story about teenage Willow Everdeen Mellark, but this time at her home in District 12. She sneaked out to have some fun with her friends at night, and now she must face her parents. But no worries, uncle Haymitch is there to save the day, well kind of. I just wanted to write something about Haymitch being an old uncle/grandpa figure to Katniss and Peeta's daughter. In my mind she can be quite rebellious and impulsive, while still loving her family and wanting to make them proud. But she's also young and wants to have fun. I like thinking that between her and Haymitch there is a special bond, he listens to her and tries his best to guide her. And she trusts him deeply. Also, Willow and her brother (Rye) do get along and love each other, I just didn't develop their relationship that much this time. tw: mentions of underage drinking

The treacherous keys slip from my hands and hit the ground. I curse under my breath. At this pace, there’s no way I’ll get in the house without making any noise. Great. My head’s killing me and now I’ll have to come up with an excuse to explain my night out. I can see my parents’ face already. I think about my brother, biting his tongue, acting like he doesn’t know anything about me sneaking out. He’d never snitch on me, but I know how much he hates secrets. In this family trust is everything, and I respect that. But I just wanted to have some fun with my friends. Is that so wrong?

Under the night sky, I struggle to see the keys, and the drunkenness doesn’t help much. I finally find them and continue on my way, dragging my feet. I'm about to resign myself to the consequences when I notice light coming from Haymitch’s kitchen. Could he be awake at this hour? Honestly, it wouldn’t surprise me. Curiosity drives me to stealthily approach his window and when I take a peek inside, I jump back startled. Sitting at the table, drinking something hot, is my old uncle Haymitch looking at me without an ounce of surprise. Mi mind is still somewhat confused, but if one thing’s for sure, is that I’m in trouble. And he knows it too. He points at the door with his thumb and his eyes leave no space for refusal.

As I enter the kitchen, I'm enveloped by the smell of coffee. With his back to me, he's making a second cup. I sit down and place my head on my arms.  

"So, tell me, did you have fun, little one?" he asks handing me the drink.

"How did you know?" I mumble with my eyes closed.

"Your brother called me" I lift my head so fast I get dizzy.

"Hey, you know it’s not his fault. He’s just worried about you. You should be thankful he didn’t tell your parents, honey" and he’s right. I can’t blame Rye for anything. I’m the one who broke the rules.

"What about you? Why didn’t you say anything?"

"I think you’re old enough to fend for yourself. But if they found out, I won’t deny anything, you hear me?" he declares with an accusing finger.

"Thank you Haymitch" I offer him one of those smiles I use to soften him. They always work, even if he denies it.

"Yeah, yeah, whatever. Now drink your coffee and tell me what you’ve been up to over there"

There’s no point in hiding anything to him, he can read my mind without trying. So, I tell him all about the laughs, the dancing, the drinking and the gossip. We keep talking until dawn, and, even though he doesn’t judge me for my juvenile adventures, he asks me to be more responsible next time. Especially with my drinking. At times like this I wonder how his life used to be before I was born. Even if my family tries to be as honest as possible about their past, I know there’re things that are just too hard to explain. I understand that, so I don’t pressure them, but sometimes I can’t help but think about it.

When the phone rings, Haymitch tells my mom I had agreed to help him with his geese that morning. Apparently, I was so excited with the task that I had woken up extra early to enjoy breakfast with my favorite uncle. I doubt she bought it, but she didn’t ask more questions. Later I understand that she just wanted to laugh at my disastrous attempt to deal with those wild animals. Well, at least someone’s having a good time. With that said, I think I won’t drink again for a long, long time.

Favorite Everlark HC?

That's a great question!

There's a ton that I really like that I'm sure I'm forgetting but I think my favorite HC is probably that Peeta makes dinner for Katniss as a sign of love and affection and is so happy and feels so loved and appreciated when Katniss absolutely just scrafs it down.

I also think that Katniss likes to take care of Peeta's residual limb and makes sure to rub her mom's ointments into it when he's on it for long hours at the bakery (because he does open it up and continues to make beautiful cookies and cakes with things Katniss finds in the woods for him).

I think my biggest fluffiest though is that Katniss likes to take Peeta to the lake and that they fix up the house by the lake to make it a second "vacay" house where they can just be themselves and away from the District. I like to think they even cleared a little trail from themselves with a short cut making it easier to get to haul items for the reno for.

🥺 i am just imagining the sensation and how she would feel. Knowing they are safe, wrapped up in bed, holding one another. The country, the district is calm and peaceful. Everyone goes to bed fed. Some nights they can hear children out late playing! Some nights a couple neighbors get together and play their instruments on ones porch in Victors Village (we gotta rename that for post MJ). Beautiful, sweet melodies that help lull her into sleep as peeta strokes her hair.

i think my favorite not-explored-enough detail from Mockingjay is how after Katniss breaks down when she is reunited with Buttercup, she falls asleep on her sitting room floor but later wakes up in her bed.

i just imagine Peeta tagging along with Greasy Sae and her granddaughter to eat with Katniss for dinner, and they walk inside and see her laying on the floor, unconscious, her features red and puffy from crying. they see Buttercup curled up near her (but not next to her, since he’s still a little weary from the thrown pillows). the two of them exchange a brief look, and with no words said, Greasy Sae offers Peeta a nod and walks herself and her granddaughter home.

Peeta steps closer to her, noticing that she washed herself and changed her clothes from when he saw her earlier in the day. he silently studied her features. then, as gently as he can, he scoops her up into his arms and carries her upstairs to her room with Buttercup, awoken from the movement, trodding at his feet. he tucks her into bed, wanting to stay but knowing he shouldn’t. he gives her hand a gentle squeeze and goes home.

the next morning, he and Sae show up for breakfast. they don’t mention how her face looks puffy from fresh tears. they know this means she’s finally trying to heal.

Katniss is canonically an doting mother.

She has no problem carrying them as many times as they ask. Never ignore them when they are crying and never get angry when they're acting like children. She doesn't care about wet beds or glasses of juice spilled on the table.

Peeta finds it a little strange at the beginning. He was raise with punishment for the smallest accidents. His parents were never very affectionate with any of their children.

One day Katniss is tying Willow's shoes and he says something like "It's time to do it yourself, young lady"

"Take your time, Willow" Katniss say.

Which makes Peeta reflect. It reminds him of all the times he walked to school with his shoes untied because no adult wanted to tie them for him. It reminds him of how he used to be punished for his dirt-stained shoelaces when he came home from school.

When Rye wets the bed at almost five years old, Peeta's first instinct is to warn him, but Katniss says it first:

"Maybe we should drink less water before going to sleep"

Which reminds Peeta of how angry his mother would get when he wet the bed. The first time he remember being physically punished was after an incident like this . Remember how after that he tried to hide the wet bed with blankets and pillows and never spoke to anyone again.

And how Rye, in contrast, would wake him up in the middle of the night saying, "Daddy, I did it again." And Peeta let him sleep between him and Katniss instead of him lying in the wet bed like Peeta did when he was a child.

He shares some of these feelings with Katniss and she makes and he realizes how dysfunctional his family was. And how difficult it is not to repeat the same mistakes.

Peeta felt triggered when one of his children cried... He remembered how much worse it was for him if he cried. But Willow was only six years old and it was normal to cry like that, Peeta learned to wipe away her tears and teach her to regulate her emotions.

One day he caught her stealing some coins from the bakery's cash register. He stopped in complete shock looking at her. He felt fear spread through his body. He remember that it was for this reason that his mother beat his older brother. She took a wooden spoon from the kitchen and hit his hands fourteen times. The number of letters that are in the phrase "I shouldn't steal".

She made Peeta and his middle brother watch. Remember Bran's face turning red as he held back tears and spelled "s-t-e-a-l". When his father came home and saw Bran's hands red at dinner time he didn't ask what happened. Remember hearing Bran cry at bedtime that night.

He felt afraid for Willow.

"What are you doing?"

"I just want to buy some gum on the way to school" she said innocently, not seeming to realize the problem.

"You shouldn't take the coins from there. These money are from the bakery. If you want money to buy something you should ask me or your mother"

She returned the coins to the cash register and nodded.

One day Peeta realized that his children saw no other purpose for a wooden spoon other than stirring the food in the pan.

I actually think Katniss and Peeta both fell in love with each other around the same time. Up until the Games, Peeta had a childhood crush on her - I don’t think he was in love with her. I think he fell in love with her in the cave, the same way she started falling for him then. He was just much surer of his feelings because he’s just more emotionally aware I’d say and because he already had his crush, which he recognised as a crush, to build on. (I specify this because I think Katniss also had a crush on him but was completely oblivious about it). Katniss took longer getting there because she spent so much to her life running from love and vulnerability after her dad died. And I think that’s why the cave is “our den” to them. That’s where the seeds of their relationship really blossomed.

with the way katniss neglected herself so much after mockingjay that she would barely even eat unless greasy sae was there, I imagine her hair would get matted in that time and one of the first physical touches between everlark after their hug is peeta gently working his way through every single knot for hours and it being therapeutic for both of them. for him to concentrate on one thing and work with his hands again. for her to just sit back and feel something besides the fog of her mind or the drowning grief. he apologises each time he has to cut out a section or it simply comes out (and he’s still unsure if his apologies hold a deeper meaning yet). in the end, he would attempt katniss’s signature braid and laugh so hard at the disjointed mess that katniss has no idea what’s going on back there but laughs along with him because it feels so good to hear that for the first time in years really. he unravels it and instead does two simple braids down her back, just like his girl who sang the valley song

I have this headcanon that Katniss is a very good poet/writer. Her thoughts have always been so poetic, like who the hell calls a boy she fake loves "dandelion in the spring, that means rebirth instead of destruction" like be fr. And at the end of Mockinjay she says something like I make a list in my head of every good thing I've seen someone do.

Post mockingjay she spends her days in the woods writing for hours and hours. It's good therapy for her as well, she writes about Prim, Rue, Cinna, Finnick, Boggs, Peeta's father. Sometimes she writes down her nightmares, fears, the arena, her time in District in 13.

But mostly she writes about Peeta, how she is so afraid of loosing him, and that she's so grateful he came back to her. She writes about how nice it feels to run her fingers through his blonde curls, and his eyelashes oh my eyelashes, miss girly has 5 whole pages dedicated to his eyelashes. She writes about his strong arms, how they ripple when he's kneading dough and how he effortlessly lifts her into his arms like she weighs nothing. She writes and writes and writes.

One day Peeta eyes her notebook curiously, he sees her with it all the time but never has the guts to ask her what's in it. One day he finally gives in and asks her, and Katniss blushes furiously before saying 'just some stuff I wrote'. He asks if he can see it, and she reluctantly hands it to him, it's not that Katniss minds letting him see it, she's just a bit shy. Peeta immediately starts crying right through the first couple pages, Katniss gets all nervous and asks him if she wrote something wrong. He cries even more at that and reassures her that nothings her wrong just that her words are beautiful he can't help it.

When he reaches the more later part of the book, he gets all cheeky and teases her about how badly downn she is for him. She get's all defensive and pretends to get mad and leave. He pouts and apologizes 'I'm sorry birdie, come here'. He wraps his big strong arms around her, carries her upstairs and he makes love to her all night long.

Later he smirks to himself and says 'I can't believe I ever thought that Gale stood a chance'

Look, the titles Katniss refers to Peeta as (the boy with the bread, the dandelion in the spring) she only says in her head.

So the idea that Peeta has no titles to use in reference to Katniss is only based on what he says. In his head I think he has a whole section of ways he refers to Katniss to himself. My favorite headcanon is that even before the Reaping, he thought of her as "the mockingjay" because he fell in love with her voice to start. My second headcanon is that he calls her a "honeybee" because she's always busy gathering food, she creates sweetness but can have a sting to protect, and it compliments her reference to him as a dandelion.

I wonder what came to be of Snow's granddaughter. We don't know much about Snow's children, but it's highly possible that they would go into hiding or at least keep a low profile, or maybe they would be charged for some crimes (again, there isn't enough information about them). But what about the girl?

I like the idea of Tigris somehow reaching out after the revolution, feeling protective of her. She would help her understand more about their family's past and ensure she was better than them. And after that, who knows? Maybe she moves to one of the Districts (if they still exist as we have known them) and lives far away from the Snow legacy.

And then I got carried away and started to imagine a story about Katniss' daughter and Snow's great-granddaughter meeting each other as teens/young adults. Because drama.

I just know Peeta is one day going to realize that Katniss legitimately finds him physically more attractive than everyone else. Like in the books it’s literally “Gale looks handsome I guess” and she acknowledges that Finnick is good looking. But Peeta literally gets paragraphs of devotion and loving attention.

I've said it once (84 times) and I'll say it a thousand times (1084 times) I want Peeta to find out how absolutely loved, wanted, desired, admired and adored he is by Katniss. I want them to lay on some grass when he catches her staring at him and he asks her why and she says she's watching his eyelashes when he blinks. I want them to be working at moving rubble in town and he takes off his shirt and uses the shirt to wipe sweat off his brow. And then he glances over to Katniss and she is STARING at him. Eyes like fucking dinner plates. He thinks he actually catches her biting her lip. I want them to lay in bed together after a hard day and he's completely wiped. Falls asleep with his prosthesis on. He wakes up to find that she took it off for him, rubbed a mint ointment on his sore stump, got him out of his pants and button down, and tucked him in. I want him to get into a fake, fun argument with Sae and some of the other Seam folk. And they're lovingly hassling him and he's giving and taking it in turn and Katniss is just BEAMING at the scene because of how accepted he is by "her" folk. I want him to run a little class where he teaches kids how to bake (always with an adult present) so they can make their own treats at home. And Katniss always makes sure to time her visits so she can watch the end of the class because something about seeing Peeta sweetly tell these children how wonderful their creations were and lets them all go home with a free cookie - it makes her heart want to burst. And he looks up at her and sees this look in her eyes. And he knows exactly what that look is, but he wants to hear it from her - he NEEDS to hear it from her.

Anon, he's going to know. And she's going to spend the rest of her life loving him with her entire SOUL. I believe this fully. 💚🌻🧡🌻

at this point in his illness, peeta knew he was dying. i don't think he expected to wake up again. so when he's awakened by the feeling of katniss' lips pressed against his and opens his eyes to see her smiling at him and hears her use a special voice for him that he's never heard before but sounds like love, for a second, he probably thought, maybe, being dead isn't so bad.

and then he sees the pot of broth in katniss' hand, feels his wounds pressed against the hard stone floor of the cave, and comes to his senses. and that's when he realizes he needs to fight like hell to live. because he's starting to think it might be his only chance to see heaven.

to be honest you can’t blame them, you know they are like this now because of how scared they are of losing you. and you adore them for that.

but also, overprotective in the jealousy way.

peeta has never been a jealous boyfriend. if he sees you or katniss flirting with someone else, his heart would shatter into pieces, feeling not enough for either of you, but he would never say a word about it.

meanwhile, katniss.. well, she’s not afraid to make it clear what belongs to her.

there was this time when gale came up to talk to you on the reaping day, he said he was 'concerned about you.'

your girlfriend noticed his intentions to flirt with you and quickly got closer to steal your attention, placing a hand on your waist and giving gale a death stare.

he never tried to flirt with you in her presence again.

peeta is literally obsessed with both, you and katniss. he would die for the two of you.

in the other hand, katniss would kill for the two of you. you guys are her whole universe.

in the afternoon, you usually have baking lessons with peeta as your teacher.

if you end up burning something, he says, “don’t worry darling, next time will turn out better.”

sometimes, when you join her on the hunt, katniss tries to teach you how to use the bow and arrow as well.

“i don’t know, i think i prefer watching you do it than doing it myself.”

“c’mon baby, it’s going to be fun. for me?”

of course, you agree just to see her happy.

since they returned home, it’s normal for both of them to have nightmares every night.

to katniss, it helps when you run your fingers through her hair while she rests her head on your chest. peeta always takes her hand to let her know he’s there, even when he’s scared too.

when peeta is the one that wakes up from a terrible dream, he immediately becomes the little spoon and lets both of his girlfriends hug him. this helps him calm down and quickly go back to sleep.

every morning, you braid katniss’s hair while peeta braids yours. <3

you and peeta take care of the garden, and always suprise katniss with flowers.

okay but.. heavy make out sessions.

peeta holds you tight onto his lap and kisses your neck while katniss kisses your mouth like her life depends on it.

they’re always so sweet with you and your body, because it’s probably their favorite thing on the world.

both of them always ask for consent before touching or even kissing you, they respect you so much.
