Ever After is so awesome they where like
“you know what would be cool, if Leonardo da Vinci was the fairy godmother in Cinderella instead of a fairy”

I'm rewatching Ever After and man... I just have feelings about the Baroness.
So it's the scene in her room with Danielle and she's talking about how her mother was hard on her and you just have to wonder what happened with her first husband. In the scene before we have LePieu making offers to Danielle, so one of the first connections I can think of is Rodmilla had the same thing happen - a younger girl married off to an older man to secure wealth and a title.
Then after years of putting up with him (and what that must have been like with having two girls, no boys) she meets Auguste who is a gentle man. She could have tried to make another political match, but instead she picked someone who was of a lower rank - there had to be a reason for that.
It might not have been a full love match, he was looking for a woman to help his daughter and she knew life was easier with a husband, but she was there - watch his death scene and tell me she wasn't devastated.
And, yes, she goes into the pattern she knows and she pushes Danielle away because, "There is so much of your father in you. Some times I can see him looking out of your eyes." But... She is always the version of the Stepmother that moves me the most.
