So I'm playing FFXII Zodiac Age at the moment (yep, I'm well behind on sharing my screengrabs! I'm a whole two games behind lmao) and does anyone else think the Salika Wood would be a much more fitting home for the Viera than the Golmore Jungle?

I know Eruyt Village is technically its own zone/area. But I feel like passing through Salika to get there is much more on Eruyt Village's vibe.

Then again, I suppose the wildness of Golmore is a good repellent for pesky humes. ((Have you seen how the big mantis monsters cannibalize the poor chocobos though!?))

ff10 - decisive battle (extremely hard choice)

ff11 - autumn footfalls (cheating because i've only listened to this game's music out of context)

🌟My non-WoLs🌟

Valtyrja Eruyt meaning: The slain God. From the village of Eruyt.

A Fran expy, clearly. For undetermined reasons, she did not give up her forest name when she left Dalmasca. Has a complicated relationship with the Green Word who she sees as both mother and God. Viera who leave their forest homes are forsaken by them, but she can hear plants and the Elementals who deign to speak with her still. She is quiet, until she is rough and blunt. A possible Warrior main because a Viera with an axe has a kind of je ne sais quoi. (Tsuna inherited all the traits she was supposed to have. The free trial didn't allow Viera.)

Cerise Vierge meaning: Yeah, it's a bad joke. But also a Xenogears reference.

A possible Gridanian Elezen, who is possibly tied to Mother Miounne. She is an archer-- maybe a part of the Adders. I don't have much for her. 🤷 EDIT: IM A FOOL she could have served House Dartancours i.e. Lady Amandine...🧍

Shizuka Gozen meaning: She was named after a famous courtdancer who was the mistress of Yoshitsune.

Originally created because I just wanted a baddie midlander. Now she might have been one of Tsuna's sisters in the Okiya, or was her Okiya 'Mother'-- though I am tempted to make the latter a Roe. She has Hatsumomo vibes?? and is Ada Wong flavoured.

Back on Twitter there was a trend for creating deserts or cocktails based on your WoL/OCs. For Astraea I made an Eruyt Mojito - a cocktail themed after her birth village, as well as her color pallet at the time.

I'm well past this part of the game but I'm still spinning this exchange over in my mind. The voice acting certainly didn't make it sound any less horny.

I looked up the Japanese dialogue, wondering how direct a translation this was (Alexander O. Smith gets very creative with his localizations, so it wouldn't be a shock if it was all on him), and it actually turned out to be directly translated?? Though there's a word pun in Japanese that precedes the talk of bridles and whips.

ギース：貴殿とは馬が合うようですな。 オンドール：それはけっこうですが、手綱をつけられるつもりはございませんな。 ギース：ならば鞭をお望みか？

(Ghis: It seems you and [Vayne] are well-suited to one another. Ondore: That's all well and good, but I have no intention of being bridled. Ghis: In that case, do you desire the whip?) 馬が合う is an idiom that means "to get along well with (someone); to be well-suited/matched (to one another)" but literally means "to be [as a rider] a good match with one's horse". It's horny all the way down in in this DILF politicking trainwreck. I do like that the English seems more directly insulting, while the Japanese might be going a more subtle route (though I'm not fluent, so I'm unsure how it sounds to a fluent speaker.)

Anyway I'm still trodding through this game and feeling more and more nostalgic as I go... I've reached Mt Bur-Omisace after a lot of grinding in the Lhusu Mines. I've been rambling on and on about this game on my Twitter priv lmao I should do it more public where I can actually discuss this with other fans.

All I can say is: I love Ashe's character arc where she is struggling to rein in her anger and her grief to do what she needs to do as a revolutionary leader, as a political leader, as the last surviving of an ancient dynasty, as a symbol of hope and peace and prosperity, as someone trying to carry on the legacies of her father and husband and ancestors. That moment where Vaan opens up to her about his own grief regarding his brother got me really bad!! They're such good foils of one another IMO.

Also, I'm enjoying replaying this as an adult and being able to catch a bunch of the allegorical/symbolic narrative elements. Like the whole nethicite being an allegory for nuclear weapons/the atom bomb, and how the story ends up having major anti-nuke themes? I did not catch that as an 11 year old!!

ALSO ALSO I love Balthier, and I love Fran, and I love their relationship, and i wish we got to see more of them being highly attuned to the other's emotional state, how intuitively they read each other, I wanna know more about their past and how they've grown around one another!! I want more of Fran's family drama in Eruyt Village!! Ugh the very brief scene in Golmore Jungle where Balthier can tell Fran's upset about having to return to the village, and then she turns it back on him with the ~your eyes betray your heart~ line and he gets huffy... They're good, I love them.

2. Game you are currently playing.

Baldur's Gate 3. That's actually why I didn't answer these. I reblogged that post and then went to play BG3 and completely forgot about it. I even read this ask on my phone before getting on and whoops... 12. A character you particularly like in the game you are currently playing.

Aw geeze. There are a LOT of NPCs I'm super endeared to, but everyone's gonna wonder who my favorite of the main companions is and that is... really hard. I am currently in the middle of Act 2 (0 spoilers for me please) and so far each of them has done something to make me angry at them, so while I like them, I am not currently overly fond of anyone in-particularly. Besides Withers. Withers is perfect and I kiss his perfect head. (It's Wyll, I like Wyll the most as a person, but I can't stand how he approaches romance (monogamy is gross!) so I can't fuck him, unfortunately.) 18. A game location you really like.

There are so many. Ancient Cistern (Skyward Sword) is my favorite Zelda dungeon, hands down. I think it's gorgeously designed both game-play wise and visually. I also really love Clock Town from Majora's Mask. I also found myself super endeared to Tarry Town in Breath of the Wild and then Hateno Village in Tears of the Kingdom. Something about Zelda games is so... cozy. Special shout out to Eruyt Village and Golmore Jungle from FF12. 22. A game ending that really stuck with you.

Off by Mortis Ghost really got me. I think about that one a LOT. Also the end of Final Fantasy X killed me as a child. But Tears of the Kingdom is at the top of this list right now. 27. A game you love the atmosphere of.

Final Fantasy XIV. Majora's Mask was also a contender for this title. As was Undertale, really. But FF14 has a way of making it feel like I am coming home every time I open it up. Something about it just puts me at ease. 29. On average, do you have one game or multiple games going at a time?

Usually just the one. I have ADHD-I (inattentive type), so one thing will completely consume my attention for a few months and then I'll be onto the next thing. I'm very bad at multi-tasking. 31. Someone who has never played a game before but is open to trying any genre. What game would you recommend as their first?

Super Mario Bros. That was my first game. I think it does a good job of introducing someone to what a video game is without being overwhelming. However, if they are a little more technology-literate and want to try something story-based, I honestly think Ocarina of Time would be a good introduction. That was the game that made me fall in love with fantasy games and story-based games.

I missed the frame but Balthier is really surprised to see Fran. Again, it shows how Balthier is not as ready as Fran to confront his own demons. To see that Fran stops avoiding her past surely helped him doing the same later in the game. @skystones
