👄 Pam, The O'riginal Chainsaw Gal
Flower Child
March 1971 - when I was a free-spirited little hippie gal, all of 19. My boyfriend of 8 months, George Richard Wright Bush Jr., was taking my picture in front of the house he shared with Gunnar Hansen. It was on Avenue G in Central Austin, near the UT campus. Gunnar and I were sworn enemies. He was relentless in making sure I was left out while he and George went out to hunt chicks, drink beer, and smoke pot. George was quite easily encouraged in all three cases. After 13 months with philandering George, the incessant liar, I’d had my fill. I got out the back, Jack didn’t look in the rearview and happily lost track of both of them. George would try to talk to me on campus, but I was done. I’d taken the cure. Ah, love. Good riddance I said. I hoped.
This was two years and four months before Gunnar’s and my paths would cross again. It was on July 18, 1973, the first day on the set where we were beginning filming what would become the cult horror classic, "The Texas Chainsaw Massacre," 1974. The TCM cast, crew, producers, et all were gathered in Quick Hill, just outside Austin, Texas, at what would be called, “The Sawyer house”. It was located across a dirt road from what we came to think of as “the old Hardesty house”.
I was in for a big surprise that morning. Unbeknownst to either Gunnar, or myself, we'd both been cast in this little non-union (aka ’scab’) local horror film, "HEADCHEESE”, a working title. I was standing outside the Sawyer house on that muggy, hot Texas morning, chit-chatting with my acting colleagues, ‘Sally’, ‘Kirk’, ‘Jerry’, and ‘Franklin’ (you know them). We were getting to know one another. We were all dressed in our costumes, all our own clothes that they’d picked out from different outfits we’d brought from home for them to choose from, for us to wear in the film, a strictly low-budget affair. Nearby, parked in the yard of the Sawyer house, was the Vortex RV/trailer/office, a no frills, no AC job, where we were soon to sign our first contracts. Everyone was pretty excited and a bit lost.
Producer-writer, Kim Henkel, stuck his head out the open RV door and excitedly called over to me, “Hey, Teri!! Come over here! I want to introduce you to 'Leatherface!” OK, I’m ready. Kim seemed thrilled, proud as punch for us to meet. As I stepped inside, I made my way down the narrow aisle, walking toward a very large figure, a man with a head full of brown curly hair, who was sitting with his back to me. He took up one of the two banquette seats. Someone was seated across from him, but I can’t remember who. As I got even with him, I noted he was almost as tall sitting down as I was standing up. This guy was big. I was feeling an eery sense of deja vu. Kim said, “Leatherface, meet Pam!” Ta-da! He turned toward me and cocked his head to look at me, both of us prepared to say, “Hey, nice to meet ya!!” Instead, we both looked at one another in sheer horror. We each jerked back with our mouths wide open. Simultaneously, we both blurted out, "WHAT ARE YOU DOING HERE??!!!” They call them "excited utterances."
Well, we got through the moment, gathered our wits, quickly cooled our heels, and shared little with those around us. (Ai-yi-yi!! What have I gotten myself into? ) Toward the end of the day, on a break, we had coffee together. Turns out, George and Gunner had had a falling out. George had parted the G-Avenue house owing Gunner money, just as good ol’ George had also owed me money when we’d parted. Gunn and I buried the proverbial hatchet and the rest, my friends, is history.
Rest In Peace
Gunnar Hansen 1947-2015
George R.W. Bush Jr. 1945-2017
**Thanks to my friend Eric Goode for the cleanup and colorization on these 50-year-old B&W photos.
Teeny-Tiny Addendum - It would be grossly unfair to posterity not to list GRWB’s many good qualities. Gunn would want me to do that. Over the years, they managed to reconcile. In 2012 Gunn invited me to meet him at El Mercado in S Austin, to interview me for his book. At the end, he asked if I ever talked to George, and had a few choice tidbits to tell me… but that’s a whole other story!
GB and I moved back in together after he moved from Ave G, however he never told me why he left Ave G and Gunn, or even that they’d had a falling out. He could be sneaky! All I knew was that I didn’t have to ever see my sworn mortal enemy, Gunnar Dang Hansen, ever again! Pretty sure GB moved out at the end of the spring semester of ’71, (after that picture above taken of me at their house). Then, we moved back in together (again!) to a cool house in Tarrytown in Austin.
GRWB was exceptionally charming, imaginative, smart, witty, spontaneous, creative, LOVED good music, laughing, good fabric, cashmere sweaters, had style, panach, exquisite taste, was thoughtful, kind, crazy/wild, very sweet, positive, complimentary, expert at apologizing, remorseful, loving, adventurous, and a true dreamer. We had tremendous chemistry and loads and loads of fun times together. We went everywhere together, went to Willie’s first picnic together in ’71. I believe we broke up 13 times in 12 months, usually getting back together within 48 hours. Incredibly talented, and, he had an absolute genius for finding new places for us to live.(~_*).
Thanks for reading.
Sending love to all. Posted on Pam's FB page: Saturday, 6 PM, January 22, 2022. Fair to Midland, partly cloudy, clear skies ahead.

Happy Texas Chainsaw Massacre day. I almost forgot.
“On August 18, 1973, a group of five friends ran afoul of a cannibalistic family of serial predators. The film which you are about to see is an account of this tragedy. These kids could not have expected, nor would they have wished to witness as much of the mad and macabre as they were to see that day. For them, an idyllic road trip through rural Texas became a nightmare. The events of this day were to lead to one of the most grim, disturbing cases of our time. It will forever be known in the annals of American history as The Texas Chainsaw Massacre.”
Anyway. Like this for a thing from one of the tcm beebs: bubba, charlie/Hoyt (Jens.en ack.les/r lee ermy), Eric Hill (Matt bomer), pr Sally Ha.rdesty (Amy gumenick).
Comment if you want one in particular!!!

"Thomas get yer ass over here!" Charlie yelled after having knocked the man with blue eyes unconscious. Tommy hurried to his older brothers side, looking down to the man before looking to Charlie. "Take this one up to the attic, he'll be a pet for (Y/n)." Charlie snickered as he thought about the excitement his daughter would feel upon receiving such a generous gift. Tommy nodded his head then picked up the man, tossing him onto his shoulder he carried him straight to the attic, where he chained him up by his wrists and ankles. All the while Charlie went to inform his daughter of the news. "(Y/n) darlin' come here a second." He called out as he knocked on her locked bedroom door, smiling to himself when she obeyed him hastily. "Yes daddy?" She tilted her head with curiosity, her big shining eyes like stars. "I've got a present for ya up in the attic." He chuckled when her eyes lit up with excitement, despite the fact that it was brief. "Come on, I wanna show you." He held his hand out to her, leading her straight to the attic when she took his hand. "Close your eyes sweetie." He ordered softly, leading her the rest of the way a bit slower so she wouldn't trip. "Now open your eyes." He chuckled when she gasped in surprise, turning her attention back to her father. "Go on go play with your new pet." He laughed giving her a gentle push, she nodded her head obediently, before slowly approaching the unconscious man. "I'll leave you kids be." Charlie hummed as he exited the attic, despite the fact that (Y/n) and the man were clearly adults.
Curiously she turned her attention back to the man, before scurrying off to fetch some water and a first aid. When she returned she was both relieved and worried that he was still unconscious. She wet a washcloth then began gently wiping away the blood and grime on his handsome face. He stirred awake before jolting upright with a gasp, starling (Y/n) who quickly scooted away from his reach. "Wha- where am I?" He stammered in a daze, his eyes landing on (Y/n), staring at her with confusion before realization swirled in his eyes. "You?" He frowned trying to remember where he'd seen her before. "You were out at the barn, before the sheriff ran you off." He moved his hand to hold the throbbing side of his head, only to grumble when the chain prevented him from being able to do so. "I wanted to help you, I want to help you." (Y/n) spoke softly, making the man still in his movements. "But I can't... Daddy he'd... He'd kill you, and he'd hurt me." She added nervously, softly biting her lip with fearful eyes. "Get me out of here, and I'll protect you." He tried offering, his frown deepening when she shook her head. "You don't understand... Daddy's lost it, and we're the only ones around for miles... He'd find us, he'd kill us both if I tried running away with you." (Y/n)'s eyes glazed over, scooting a little closer to the man. "This is the only way I can keep you safe, daddy knows you're up here, and I can't risk moving you." She whispered. "There must be someone else around here." He pulled at his chains in a vain attempt to break free. "There ain't, everyone's up and left. Even if we could hide from daddy and uncle Tommy, the elements would eventually kill us." (Y/n) frowned as she looked to the floor with shame in her eyes.
"My names Eric." He spoke softly, a smile ghosting his lips when she peered up at him. "I'm (Y/n)." She mirrored his faint smile, before grabbing the first aid kit. "We can... We can try escaping in time, but we have to wait until its safe, otherwise daddy will be expecting it." (Y/n) whispered as she went back to cleaning up Eric's wounds. "How long will that take?" Eric asked with dread. "I don't know." (Y/n) frowned with sad eyes, feeling sorry for Eric and his friends. "I need to save my brother." Eric stated making (Y/n) still in her work. "The blond?" She asked with worried eyes, pulling away from Eric when he nodded his head. "Uncle Tommy was taking him down into his basement when I was getting this." She pointed to the first aid kit. "Nothing but uncle Tommy comes outta there alive." She added in a quiet whisper, jumping when Eric began pulling on his retrains with all the strength he had left. "I'm sorry." (Y/n) whimpered softly before rushing out of the attic, leaving Eric to have some time to morn in peace. Hours went by, and when the sound of screaming erupted from below, Eric couldn't contain his anger. He screamed, he yelled, he beat the ground with his fists, his chains, anything he could get his hands on. All the while the Hewitt family listened from below, Charlie becoming more and more enraged by the minute. "(Y/n) go quiet that mutt of yours, or I'll do it myself!" Charlie barked at his daughter, who jumped before rushing up to the attic. "Eric please!" She called out over the ruckus he was making. "No those are my friends!" Eric yelled his face red and covered in sweat. "I know and I'm so sorry, but you're making daddy mad, you have to stop." She pleaded, squeaking in fright when he threw a lamp her way, which missed her by a foot or so.
"I don't give a damn about your father!" Eric hollered. "If you don't stop he's gonna kill you." (Y/n) tried to reason with him. "He's gonna kill me anyways!" Eric pulled at his chains again. "No he ain't, as long as you obey the rules, he won't kill you, I swear." (Y/n) approached him, stopping just out of his reach. "And what makes you so certain, huh?" Eric hissed through clenched teeth. "Because he doesn't like upsetting me, but if you push him over the edge, there's nothing I can do to stop him." She murmured softly, jumping when Eric rushed at her, the chains holding him back. It was only then that Eric took in her soft features, noticing just how easy she was on the eyes, especially compared to the rest of her family. Eric felt guilt flood into his heart, at the clear fear in her eyes, the jumpy-ness only confirming his subconscious suspicion. (Y/n) was just as much a prisoner here as he was, if not more so, having been stuck here far longer, without the chance of being put out of her misery. His lips parted to speak, but he was interrupted when Charlie barged into the room. "What did I tell-" He cut himself off with a laugh, taking in the sight before him. "Well well well, what do we have here?" He taunted his words causing a blush to bloom across (Y/n)'s cheeks, who stood frozen, her face only inches from Eric's. "I knew you two would get along just fine." Charlie snickered to himself before leaving the room once more. "Please Eric just do as I say, and I'll keep you safe." (Y/n) pleaded with him, smiling sadly when he nodded his head in agreement, giving up reluctantly for his and her sake, knowing deep down their was nothing else he could do for the others.

Masterpost
First of all let me remind you that this summarizes a testimony. The victim was going through an horrific situation and his memory and perception may have been altered by fear. However, if there is a mistake I made or an important point I forgot to mention, please tell me.
He was interviewed at Swedish Medical Center (30/04/99).
He did not see anybody carry any large duffel type bags into the cafeteria while he was there, or any large bags on the floor either.
He was familiar with the term Trench Coat Mafia (TCM) in name only.
He initially was supposed to stay in the cafeteria, but as some friends of his wanted to smoke, he went outside with them.
Up the hill he saw “black clothes” and that the people “wearing the black clothes were shuffling with some bags lying on the concrete.” He believes there were two males. He saw a duffel bag at the feet of the “tall one.”
The first male [Eric] was the shortest, he had light or dark brown hair, he wore a black trench coat to “about the knees” and open in front. He could not describes his pants and shoes, nor his face. He was “digging into his pockets,” he held a “Japanese looking gun, a dark green or black assault rifle” in his left hand, but was loading it with his right hand. He then started shooting rapid fire at the door.
The second male [Dylan] was the tallest, he had dark brown “wavy, moppy or a short Afro” hair, he wore a black trench coat that went “past his knees” and opened in front. He could not describe his pants, shirt or shoes. He had a “Tec-9 or what was on the news” in his right hand and a “curved clip” in his left hand.
Dylan turned around and saw him and his friends. Then Eric turned down too.
Dylan shot in his direction, and it grazed the right side of his neck. He thought it was a “paintball gun” and it was “senior prank day.”
That is only when he saw his friend get shot in the leg and fell that he realized and started running.
He got shot in the chest one time and shot in the back.
As he ran to the cafeteria he was shot in the leg. He thought it was a tranquillizer because his leg “gave out” and he fell to the ground a couple of feet from the door. He believes Dylan shot him – he saw his face.
The cafeteria’s door was closing, so he “stuck his arm out” to hold it open and yelled, “get the tranquillizer off my back.”
A female started to pull him into the cafeteria but a worker said not to because of his back. He tried to “scoot into the doorway” and eventually gave up.
He felt “stuff” falling on his head.
He believes the explosions came from the Commons.
He had his backpack on and took it off because it hurt his back. He saw the bullet entry but not the exit. He thought it might be still in one of his books.
He figured out they were shooting people that were still alive so he decided to “play dead.”
People started to run out the cafeteria and stepped on him, thinking he was dead.
He started to “pass out” and then “heard all the sirens.”
He does not remember anything after the medics came and “pulled him” out.

Blog Post #2
Grey Gardens, directed by Albert and David Maysles in 1975, is a snapshot of decaying beauty. Both the house and the women that are the focus of the film are crumbling icons. Mother and daughter, Big Edie and Little Edie, live in a dilapidated mansion in the East Hamptons. Former socialites, the two live in isolation and near squalor. Little Edie is the first cousin of Jacqueline Kennedy, giving her a certain notoriety that didn’t seem to help her find a lasting career or family. The Maysles brothers’ cameras capture the lifestyle and personalities of Big and Little Edie. Grey Gardens does not waste any time offering solutions, or really exploring how these women ended up in their nearly uninhabitable mansion. Instead, the film relies on true Direct Cinema concepts in order to investigate these women’s psyches and delve into their relationship. However, the film just watches. Grey Gardens is merely a voyeuristic exploration. The filmmakers present what they have witnessed, but they do not attempt to solve the glaring problems, or consider the circumstances that have commenced Big and Little Edie’s fall from their social hierarchy.
“She’s a lot of fun. I hope she doesn’t die.” This quote from Little Edie about her mother exemplifies the theme of Grey Gardens. In “Grey Gardens and the tragedy of short-term beauty,” Nathan Rabin writes, “While the Edies’ feelings for each other are hopelessly complex and freighted with anger, resentment, and disappointment, there’s nevertheless a core of love that seems to keep them together just as much as their ferocious co-dependence.” This theme of co-dependence and strained relationships is very important to the analysis of Grey Gardens. The Maysles brothers aimed to portray an intimate invitation to the relationship between Mother Edie and Daughter Edie. Barnouw refers to Direct Cinema as a cinema of an “observer.” The Thompson and Bordwell text ask, “Should the camera observe, empathize, or challenge?” Grey Gardens perhaps does a little of each. The Maysles brothers tried to “minimize” the camera as much as they could, according to Barnouw. However, as Barnouw points out, some argue that “the presence of the camera made people act in ways truer to their nature than might otherwise be the case.” According to Eric Weber in “Grey Gardens,” “Albert Maysles confirmed that the Edies on screen were the same Edies he witnessed when the cameras were off.
Some have criticized Grey Gardens for being exploitative of two vulnerable women, particularly about their nakedness and older age being portrayed on camera. Weber writes, “What the Maysles realized in most of these attacks was that the reviewer was reflecting his own fears of aging and death. Viewers with any empathy for the human condition, however, can see moments of truth and beauty in Grey Gardens.” The Maysles brothers filmed hundreds of hours with Big and Little Edie. Weber also discusses the question, “[w]hat was the story they were trying to tell? Co-director and co-editor Ellen Hovde recalled that the best way to engage an audience with the Beales' story was with a psychological structure.” Grey Gardens does much more than point and laugh at two somewhat delusional women in a crumbling mansion. Grey Gardens quietly watches the interactions between an extraordinarily unique relationship. The intense dependence, isolation and decay that is witnessed in Grey Gardens is incredible and the Maysles brothers did everything they could to leave it untouched.
