This tweet is for anyone autistic or who has ADHD who was misdiagnosed with bipolar disorder because a special interest/hyperfixation was mistaken for a manic/hypomanic episode.
Caveats:
- This is not to say that these can't co-occur, but to be misdiagnosed carries the implication that someone doesn't get the appropriate self-understanding or appropriate resources.
- This is not to say that bipolar disorder/manic episodes/hypomanic episodes are "bad" either, just that again, we should focus on accurately describing experiences and if it really isn't a manic/hypomanic episode, then we should be accurately labelling it as such.

When the cold night air nips at your skin while waiting outside of Elle’s apartment, you’re glad you remembered to bring thick sweaters.
It was a spur of the moment decision to show up unannounced. That is made clear when Elle answered to your knocks and opened the door. She isn’t really enthusiastic to see you; which you can understand. Her quitting from the FBI is a fresh wound, and she had only told you of her leave through a midnight text a couple nights ago.
In short, she wasn’t expecting you here, especially in the middle of the night and while a budding snowstorm is brewing.
“What are you doing here?” The question isn’t aggressive; none of what she has ever said to you has been aggressive in tone. No, it was genuine, like she really is wondering why you’re at her apartment.
You gesture to a spare sweater nestled in your arms. “It’s the holidays,” you reply. “I wanna spend them with you.”
Elle sighs and steps aside, allowing you in. You go inside and the first thing you notice upon entry are the few packed and sealed boxes in the corner, assuming they’re untouched incase your girlfriend needed to move again. You eye them but decide not to bring it up; after all, the last thing Elle would want with all she’s been through in a short time span is you criticizing her.
She glances at the fuzzy sweater you’re wearing. “Does it itch?” she questions as she closes and locks the door, trapping the cold air outside.
You look down and straighten the dark green wool with your free hand. “Actually, it’s really soft.” You extend the crimson sweater in your arm to her. “I brought one for you!”
Seeing how happy you are, she takes the sweater and pulls it over her head; the red suits her perfectly. “Thank you,” Elle says, letting her hand run over the fabric on her arm. Her faint smile fades into a light scowl. “I’m sorry.”
“For what?” you ask.
“I didn’t tell you sooner.”
You stand there quietly, breaking the eye contact you had for a second before meekly assuring, “Do you wanna talk about it?”
The second when you stop talking, Elle moves to the living room and you follow behind closely. “I don’t think you came all the way here just to hear me whine,” she chuckles lightly.
“Okay, well,” you were originally assuming that she would turn you away at the door; now, you hadn’t envisioned you would get this far. Suddenly, you have an idea. “Do you still have those hot cocoa packets?”
She raised an eyebrow at your question. “Yeah…why, do you want some?”
“I’ll make it!” you yell as you run into the kitchen, leaving her behind. You’re lucky to have already memorized where everything in the kitchen is, being that this is only your third visit to her apartment. You turned on the electric kettle and collected two mugs and two hot chocolate packets, alongside some small marshmallows which took some time to find. Despite how often Elle would be away from her apartment, her kitchen is surprisingly well-stocked.
After you pour the hot water and contents of the packets into the mugs, you collect them and make your way back to the living room. Elle, now seated on the couch with a wooly blanket draped over one leg, stares at you as you carefully hand her the mug.
The cocoa, as delicious as it smells, is still burning hot, but that tidbit of information slipped your mind as you took a small sip, only to burn your tongue and jerk your head back. Elle chuckled at your reaction and while you’re happy to hear her laughter, you’re also playfully offended by her apparent sadism.
You slap her shoulder lightly as you sit down next to her, leaning your torso against her warm body. She responds with a joking “ouch” as she softly blows on her hot chocolate. You pull the blanket over to cover both sets of legs.
Elle sets her mug down and grabs the remote. “What d’you wanna watch,” she asks, opening up a streaming service on the television.
You take another sip, thankfully the cocoa is cooler and not unpleasantly hot. “Oh, I don’t know,” you say. “It’s your house, why don’t you pick?”
She nods, using the remote to navigate to an old black-and-white movie you hadn’t seen yet. “The Apartment? Is that a Christmas movie?”
“Technically,” she quipped, taking back her mug and drinking when the movie starts.
A few minutes in, you lean your head against her shoulder. “You know you can talk to me about anything, right?” you suggest, out of the blue.
Elle glances at you with her eyes. “I know.”
“It’s not…necessarily about, y’know, the BAU, but…” you’re unsure of whether or not you want to continue. You look down at the steam rising out of your mug. “I just wanna know if you’re doing okay.”
“I am,” she replies. “I’m okay, I swear.” She turns her head and kisses your forehead softly before turning back and wrapping her arm along the back of your neck.
You smile and take another sip of the hot chocolate, with the sounds of old-timey music in the background and the warmth of Elle’s presence to comfort you.

he stares bitterly at your shaking form tittering on the lab stool, hoping his glower seers into the back of your neck. enough for you to turn around even for just a second.
unfortunately, you don’t spare him even a mere glance, and he gives up, returning back to his sketch of you. despite your back to him, he can remember every detail of you perfectly, from the shape of your eyes to the softness of your lips.
“what happened to your neck?”
he immediately snaps his notebook closed and looks up to find none other than wednesday addams on the other side of table, “jesus, do you always sneak up on people like that? and i…got that from fencing.”
“hmm,” she gives him a one-over before redirecting her gaze to his drawing, “you seem to draw (y/n) a lot.”
“so what?” he can’t bother with wednesday’s annoyingly typical curiosity today.
she slides into the seat right next to him, removing her small black backpack off of her shoulders, “what is your relationship with (y/n)? more and more paintings of them fill your shed rather than paintings of the hyde, which does indeed make you appear less suspicious.”
“an old friend, nothing more,” he answers curtly, not wanting to delve further into his former relationship with you. where is ms. thornhill anyways?
“according to enid’s blog, ‘old friend’ is code for ex,” wednesday peers at him with her wide, dark brown (so dark brown, they should be considered black) eyes, their emptiness practically consuming him whole, “first bianca, now (y/n)? am i to be your next victim in your seemingly-endless string of lecherous crimes?”
when a pair of red boots march into the room, he tosses his pencil in his book and closes it, “trust me, that’s not what i’m doing.”
just when ms. thornhill begins the lecture, it doesn’t take long for bianca and wednesday to engage in another one of their tense yet mildly amusing battle of wits, answering questions at rapid fire. even you laugh at their competitiveness…or was it perhaps at whatever the person sitting next to you was whispering to you? xavier didn’t want to turn around this time, finding the lesson more interesting than whoever was the new object of your desires. after all, it’s been how many months since the two of you broke up? you’re over it, and he’s over it. end of story.
or, so he tries to convince himself.
with nothing better to do, he opens his small notebook again and begins drawing to distract himself, lines crosshatching and overlapping with one another.
the bell rings to signal the end of class, and xavier surveys what his thoughts led him to. unsurprisingly, it’s another drawing of you, and, almost unwillingly, the picture morphs from your still expression to your vibrant smile. with a disgruntled sigh, he slams the book shut, even tempted to rip out that page and burn it for no one to see.
“someone appears to be upset,” wednesday, who he honestly forgot was still there, comments bleakly as her eyes saccade from his notebook to him.
before he can retort, the person sitting next to you loudly asks you to the rave’n. he can’t stop himself from looking this time, his heart sinking at the sight of them handing you a small bouquet. while you have yet to answer, your flushed cheeks tell him everything. he expected people to ask you to the dance, but he was hoping he would get to ask you first. he just…hasn’t found the courage to after not talking to you since he started dating bianca.
he turns back to wednesday, easily looming over her, and his mouth moves faster than his brain, “want to go to the rave’n with me?”
almost imperceptibly, wednedsay’s eyes widen before quickly reverting back to their normal size. they focus on xavier’s neck and then back to xavier.
“…thought you’d never ask.”
as she stood there, xavier finds himself staring into wednesday’s soulless eyes, trying to find a mere glimpse of you.
and just like with bianca, it doesn’t work.
from the corner of your eye, you’re not surprised to see xavier and wednesday with each other. while zach, who you’ve never even talked to before today, anticipates your answer, you managed to listen in on their conversation despite being so far away. so, xavier’s taking wednesday to the dance?
with a sigh and newfound resolve to move on—the foul hopes of bianca being a rebound prevented you from such—, you smile brightly and accept zach’s bouquet. you giggle at his excitement, but, while doing so, you can’t help but stare into his eyes, trying to find a mere glimpse of xavier.
unfortunately, it doesn’t work.

Analyzing The Mandalorian’s Fighting Styles — “The Prisoner”
Part I
Word count: 895
One thing I really liked about Mando’s retribution in “The Prisoner” episode is that it was in line with his character, and it furthers my gripes with season 2 specifically because “The Prisoner” reinforces that Mando is a hunter, and a lethally efficient one at that. Hunters lie in wait and plan their moves from afar, observing and stalking their prey as they move silently and decisively, calculating the entire time.
Mando breaks out of the cell and immediately goes for the command center, which by his ability to act efficiently there tells us he was likely making observations about the room when they were there the first time. Mando is constantly aware of his surroundings and is always thinking of the multiple possible outcomes of a situation at any given time. He knew or intuited how to re-route the crew and override security measures, blocking corridors and dropping the walls between hallways, and did so quickly while planning as he went.
In the control center we see him cut the crew off and redirect them in specific ways that will put him at an advantage: by pairing Mayfeld with Qin, he puts Mayfeld at the disadvantage, knowing he was the new guy— Qin has no reason to care about Mayfeld because there was no prior connection between the two of them. Qin’s also unarmed until he takes one of Mayfeld’s guns (further disadvantaging one of the crew), and Mando knows he’s only going to look out for himself regardless of whether X’ian is his sister or not. Qin’s the most likely to just bail on the rest and make for the first escape he can find.
Divide and conquer.
Mayfeld is a sharpshooter so by turning off all the lights and knowing the alarm lights will be flickering, he’s taken away Mayfeld’s ability to even see what he could be shooting at. Stalking Mayfeld in the dark and moving with him allows Mando to close the gap so he can overpower him at close range, which wouldn’t be a sharpshooter’s forte.
When Mando sees Burg and X’ian split up he redirects Burg to the command center because the only way he can hope to defeat him is by literally getting the high ground, which wouldn’t be found anywhere else on the ship they have access to. Burg’s the strongest so he needs to eliminate him first; if any of the others were to team up on him he could still win that fight, but Burg tips the scales too much for Mando to not get him out of the equation entirely.
The command center is the only place Mando could get the upper hand on Burg and he knows he can’t go up against the Devaronian in a contest of brute strength, so he lies in wait in the grating above, hoping he can string Burg up and cut him off with a trap. Obviously Burg is able to yank him down and Mando has to improvise from there, but even though Mando doesn’t succeed in a close quarters fight, he’s still setting up advantages for later (like by getting both of Burg’s sidearms while his hands are occupied, even if Mando wasn’t able to shoot Burg with them).
What’s interesting about X’ian is that if you notice just before their knife fight, it almost seems like X’ian realizes he’s there because she can smell him. What makes his fight with her a challenge is that we can tell shes’s also a hunter, and she’s deadly from afar— Even for as many knives as she throws that he’s able to deflect, one of them still lands in his shoulder. They may have equal skill with blades, but the key for him here is that if he keeps moving forward he knows if he can close the gap between them where he’ll have the advantage of bulk muscle and physical strength. It’s also better to get her to expend her arsenal now so she doesn’t have anything left when he has to remain in close proximity as he drags her back to the cell.
All of these skills demonstrate his powers of observation and ability to predict what his enemies will do next. Mando planting the distress beacon on Qin was him knowing the New Republic would show up at the chop shop. He anticipates Ran’s betrayal, he knows Qin would have no idea what the beacon was (thereby preventing him from acting on its presence and implications the second he saw it), and he knows what the New Republic will do, thereby clearing his escape of any pursuers
One of the first teachings of fight choreography is that a fight happens when words stop being effective, and that any fight within a narrative is a story in itself. Fights are character-driven and the results should further reinforce those characters, and/or change the story for the characters involved in a significant way. Every action in this episode reinforces the idea that Mando thinks ahead, thinks on his feet, and does his best fighting when he’s able to be a hunter. He’s just as smart, stealthy, and capable in the more subtle aspects of his craft as he is in an all out fight, and I wish they’d kept that characterization beyond the first season because it’s integral to how this guy operates within this world.

Sokka was never told to leave and protect Yue. Instead he stayed on the mission with Hahn to invade the Fire nation ship even after he told them the uniforms were outdated. This leads to him being thrown off the Fire Nations boat for being an obvious imposter.
Zuko never made it to the pond, or aang. Instead Zhou is told of his plan and sends a soldier to follow him. When he stopped the soldier attacked him, knocking Zuko out and leaving him there. As the tide rises he is pulled into La.
Sokka is dumped by the tide at the very same place La has taken Zuko.
Forced to help each other in order to survive the harsh climate of the North pole and make it back to their family's. Families who think they are dead.
And maybe learn a little bit more about each other along the way.

It’s a key component of their relationship, which gets largely buried under storyline rehashes and writer burnout (for Eric and Donna, at least) during seasons 6 and 7 of T7S.
But their playfulness, competitiveness, miscommunication, ability to work out their mistakes with each other, etc. offer myriad avenues to go down with them -- from the major to the minor. Their relationship, like Jackie and Hyde’s, inspires and challenges them to become better people, and those are some of the most interesting relationships (romantic or otherwise) for me to read about and write.

2022's Fanfic Wrap-up
Happy new year everyone!
I went back and forth on whether or not I wanted to make that post, but 2022 was a pretty good year overall (I mean writing-wise because otherwise it sucked massively) and there have been a few accomplishments I felt like sharing.
5th Year Anniversary
Five years ago, in September 2017, I posted my first AO3 fanfic (not my first fanfic overall, but we don't talk about those other ones), a little DC Comics fic called One Last Look. Make of it what you will, but those opening lines still slap and I might just steal them for something else one day.
100 Works
Two weeks ago as I write these lines, I posted my 100th work on AO3 (technically a bit more since I orphaned a couple of fics, but we don't talk about those either): Love, Loss, and Moving On, an Andromeda Six oneshot.
A Little Experiment
Back in April, I posted a fanfic on AO3 that I didn't think would interest anyone. It's a drabble (an actual 100-word drabble), written for a dead fandom (that was never really alive to begin with), and posted anonymously. I barely expected it to get a few hits, but it did garner some kudos. Not a lot, mind you, but enough to not be considered my least popular work of the year.
Anyway, what I'm trying to say is: post your stuff, because even the most niche fic you'll write in your life will find an audience.
My Worst Title to Date
I've never been good with titles, but No Pain Without Pain certainly takes the cake (or rather the bread). It's a pun, but one that requires you to be somewhat bilingual (and even then it's not a good one).
2022 Achievements
Works posted: 19 (out of 100 in total).
Words posted: 43 739 (out of 197 895 in total).
First work posted: Happy With Someone Else.
Last work posted: Love, Loss, and Moving On.
Longest works: Tales From the Seleota System vol.1 with a total of 7860 words. Love, Loss, and Moving On with 3623 words if you count each chapter individually.
Shortest works: Sleeping Beauty with a total of 698 works. Tales From the Seleota System vol.1 if you count each chapter individually since it has a few 100-word drabbles.
Most popular work: Happy With Someone Else. No idea why. The only thing special about it is that I posted it on my birthday. But it's somehow managed to become my second most popular fic overall, and for that I'm grateful.
Least popular work: The Wallflower and the Party Pooper. No surprise there. Non-shippy fics never get a lot of traction. Still, I quite like it. It's about Cal meeting my Traveler before the events of the game. I don't write him a lot, so it felt like a breath of fresh air.
Most popular older work: Stay With Me Tonight [Explicit]. I'm not even going to ask why.
Best month: October, both in terms of productivity and reader engagement.
Worst month: August. I honestly almost gave up at that point.
What's in store for 2023?
Well... I don't know... I do want to post the last two chapters of Four Seasons, and I do have some Andromeda Six WIPs I want to finish, but I'm waiting for episode 7 to come out before I do since they'll likely tie into those events. But tbh, I'll probably move on to another fandom pretty soon. It's been fun, but I feel like I'm running in circles. There's so little actual content in the game that I'm feeling very uninspired and my writing highly suffers from it. I'm just writing the same stories over and over again; the characters are OOC (not that canon gives us a lot to go on but still); the only things I'd be excited to write in this fandom are AUs, and at this point, I think I'd be better off writing original fiction (which I might actually do, though it's such a daunting task and I don't know if I have the spoons for it tbh). Besides, there are quite a few pieces of media coming out this year that I'm actually looking forward to, and I just know one of them is going to become my new hyperfixation.
