Just watched the Tumblr Live QnA Panel, and here's some of my thoughts:

* Had to toggle on Tumblr Live to watch and agree to the terms.

The stream itself was a little low quality visually, not terrible, but either they used a low quality camera or streaming isn't up to the same quality as other sites like Tiktok

* the gifting feature that mimics Tiktok was obnoxious. Users that seem to use Tumblr Live a lot where using gifts very often. The gift icons would take up most of the screen covering chat.

Some people in chat suggested that the gifters were Staff plants to make the site seem more popular than it is. There is no way to verify if they are or are not. But these individuals talked in the chat about how they use Tumblr Live all the time, and some dont even have blogs they only use Live. Which is????

I don't like the gifting emojis. But i dont like them on Twitch or tiktok either, so shrug emoji, i guess

Questions Answered (that i remember)

* The Chronological Dashboard will stay. They mentioned this several times that tumblr, while they are going to improve the For You algorithm, the main Chronological Dashboard will not change.

* Tumblr Live apparently isn't blocked in Europe and is just waiting for approval, which is soon. They said it being blocked was misinformation. (Which i have no way to verify.)

* LGBTQA+ and specifically Trans content getting flagged or censored is a bug, apparently. They said it happens from time to time, but reporting should fix it. Users in the chat were unhappy with this answer since the issue has lasted for such a long time and doesn't seem or feel random. But they did not comment further.

* Tumblr posts being collapsable was not super addressed. They sort of skimmed over this question and just said that they try lots of new features to see what works and what doesn't. Apparently, there will be a toggle to turn this feature on or off.

* Tumblr Groups was addressed. It was shut down because not enough users used the feature.

Apparently, not many users use Tumblr Live either, but they want to keep working on it to make it appealing.

* Another bit about Tumblr Live. CEO essentially said they will not give the option to permanently toggle off the feature.

One user had asked if Tumblr had investors. CEO said, "Of course."

CEO did mention they "might" add a way to permanently turn off tumblr live. But it if they did, it would be a paid option over $20.

* One user commented that they are epileptic and that certain ads trigger their seizures because of the flashing colors and wanted to know what they would do for this issue. Tumblr CEO said "Well you could pay for No Ads."

CEO talked about paying to go ad free a lot. Saying only 25 thousand users pay for it at the moment.

Personally, it seems really irresponsible to suggest that the only way to fix an accessibility issue is for a user to pay money. As if disabled people dont have to pay enough as it is.

* I had asked if they were willing to work with more artists for Merch and Badges. They said they are working on it and there is a feature called Creatr that is set up to uplift creators and work with them on merch ideas.

I've never heard of Creatr. He seemed like we should have known what it was? Maybe they should promote that more. I know we all want more ways to support artists.

* More Badges and Achievements are coming. Apparently, a Legacy Badge that shows how long you've been on tumblr is in the works. (Im personally very excited about Badges.)

* Tumblr is thinking bout doing more QnA and even meet ups at different conventions and some even at the headquarters themselves. (They did not acknowledge questions that asked for a Headquarters video tour.)

Anyways, that was about all I can remember. Staff didn't record the panel, so hopefully, one of the other users did.

They talked about other random stuff. Calling out gifters specifically and rambling about donuts and books.

Oh, also, they brought a ball pit. Which is, yeah. Lol

hello! i'd like to start a stimboard blog, but i have not a clue where to find resources/how to format/etc. do you have any tips/resources on how to start a stimboard blog? itd be appreciated, thank you in advance <3

how to make stim blog & stims: informal guide by hammy

1- its best to use desktop instead of mobile tumblr. while you can technically do it on mobile, i wouldnt recommend it because mobile tumblr breaks format often.

2- when making your own gifs, it is recommended to make your gifs in a 1:1 ratio format, so basically a square (100x100 ratio).

3- if you are using other peoples gifs, always remember to keep track of whose gifs you are using and properly credit to the best of your ability. i usually start my posts in my drafts and then use my likes to keep track of what gifs i use, but you can also save drafts with them and stuff to not lose them. link to the direct post, do not just @ the blog, thats the best way to credit but as long as you make a conscious effort to credit its not a big deal

4- format wise its up to you man its your blog and you get to do what you want, but i will say that when crediting the way i do with emojis or Xs or whatnot, it is better to have a space between each item so that on tumblr mobile it doesnt merge the links or break the credits

5- tags, how you handle requests, dni, etc are all up to you, whatever works best for you. but please keep in mind that you should probably tag triggers if making any sensitive content or marking it with tumblr's new mature content labels and stuff, though trigger tagging might be better bc the content labels tumblr has might hide your post from people who unknowingly have the "do not show posts" enabled

6- ezgif dot com is your friend. i dont have photoshop or anything so i basically live off of it lol. btw, might want to have an adblocker for it though since some of the ads can take up too much space

THEN you save that image. otherwise it will be in garbage webp unusable shit

The weirdest thing in it atm? Probably a half eaten bag of beef jerky? I'm a teacher and I keep a snack in my bag at all times. ATM its jerky. Just incase lunch sucks one day.

Do you think s11 Mickey can still carry s11 Ian?: Absolutely, Mick may be short but have you seen his arms? Man's bustin'. While Ian would pitch a fit about being ' too heavy ' and wouldn't let Mickey do it unless it was needed. Mickey knows he can easily.

who got custody of the killing bat when they sold the house?: Carl; totally takes it to the ' new alibi ' and threatens people with it. I want my answer to be Mickey. how are all your posts so pretty? where do you get the inspo?

aww ty anon!! i'm starting use more small text in my posts bc it looks #aesthetic to me but thats just a personal preference. my dumbass also didnt know that the small text was on the basic formatting choices you get when you highlight the text, so i was literally manually doing it the html way with <small> every paragraph.,.......

i like to use visuals!! i get that from some other fanfic writers whose @'s i cant remember off the top of my head, but this is my tumblr board for fanfic headers if you're interested!! i mainly use manga headers that i feel like are somewhat (?) applicable to the theme of the fic (if that makes sense) bc i am, unfortunately, an anime fan. i also play around with bolds and italics on key words just to make it pop.

i also like using emoticon combos!! like sparkles like the ones i use as a replacement for colons (the "✧.*‎") in my fanfics, but im also toying with the idea of using "\🔪\" instead for those instead. i use this site for emoji combos!! you can search up specific keywords for emoji combos to come up ("sparkles" "bows" even "five nights at freddy's" has some options) i also like using cute line breaks like the one in my characters & fandoms post.

i also play a lot with spacing. instead of just spamming the space bar bc it wont let you paste it ,  you  can  just  copy  and  paste  spacing . i use this site for invisible characters. i also prefer the em dash (—) instead of the regular dash (-) just, again, for aesthetics. you can find the em dash by looking it up and pasting or just using the key bind using ctrl + alt + dash.

i would highly recommend doing heavy formatting on a computer if possible. i dont have a lot of practice in formatting on phone, but i find that desktop is just easier even tho my themes definitely look goofy as hell on mobile. all in all just play with formats until you're satisfied with it!! these are just some tips & resources i use :)
