Top gun 50s/early 60s AU but it's also a boarding school AU.
There's a separate boys and girls school but they kind of interlink, they do dances together and stuff so think like the two schools in Heartstopper and how they're close by and do social stuff together
Carole is a scholarship student, she's a bookworm who has those big glasses and a gap toothed smile. Her roommate is Penny, a nepotism baby with a dad who got offered the role of an Admiral after his excellence as a Captain in The War, she's very sporty and more butch, or as much as she can be in the late 50s/early 60s, as she has 4 brothers.
Carole's friends with the other scholarship kid, Charlotte Blackwood, who's detemined to make it into college even if her parents really don't think that's a woman's place. She's got a weekend job in town and saves all her money up for fancy clothes, bright red lipstick, satin dresses with fur trims and does her hair like Marilyn Monroe. Her roommate is one, Elizabeth Corday, a british student who just wants to be a surgeon like her dad
In the boy's school we have Nick Bradshaw and his cousin, Mark Greene, both kids with dad's in the military. Goose is called that for how he sneaked a goose into the girls dorms during a prank war.
He's best friends with Pete Mitchell, sent to the school by an aunt who just wants him out of the way like everyone. Last year he dormed with goose but this year, let's say their junior year so 16-17, he's been paired with Tom Kazansky, determined to be an Admiral just like his dad.
But Goose realises he not only likes rock and roll, learning to play a lot of songs on the piano much to the teacher's dismay, but also boys. One boy in particular, the Captain of the Football team, Ron Kerner
Ron's a scholarship kid too, he's serious about getting out of his shitty life any way possible and does not have time for dating
Goose goes to the school library with his friend Carole, and finds out that she has a crush on her roommate Penny and, to make it even more taboo for them, her friend Charlie as well
And when his cousin Mark makes the assumption that he's dating her, he gets the brilliant idea to fake their relationship, try to set up their crushes with each other, Charlie with Pete and Penny and Ron, secretly date them behind the scenes, using their double dates as a cover up to go off with their crushes
The only problem is, they have to do this without outing themselves and maybe getting themselves kicked out to conversion therapy *sad 50s noises*
And to add another layer, Penny and Charlie don't even like each other because they're fighting over Pete
Charlie dated him last year, as a cover up and in the poor hope that it will get rid of her outrageous crush on Carole, but showed up after the summer to see him sharing spit with Penny
So they hate each other
But both love Carole
And Carole loves both of them
:(
When hanging out on the weekend, Penny and Carole find themselves alone, one thing leads to another and they end up kissing
Carole still loves Charlie too, and Penny's not giving up her cover with Pete now
At a school dance, Goose, sad that he's still not got closer to Ron, offers her a solution, set Charlie up with Ron, two career focused people who both have an image to up keep
Cue typical rom-com shenanigans, also featuring Carole and Penny cuddling for warmth in winter, Goose watching Ron train and going fully red when he walks over and smiles, all covered in sweat
Eventually, Goose kisses Ron, he teaches him a bit of piano and tries to show him that he can still have his golden future and have fun at the same time
Also Icemav get together in the background
Eventually we get a grease like situation in terms of friendship, but charenrole, sloose and icemav together secretly
Also Mark and Elizabeth get together too, but that's really in the background, just got to sprinkle in my love for ER wherever I can lol

Just me thinking about Girl Dad Bradley in Landslide having 4 daughters and realizing besides 4 college funds, he should go ahead and start one massive wedding fund...that way no one feels pressured to get married but everyone will have money set aside for whatever kind of wedding they do want...this man is never gonna financially recover and he is okay with that 🤣
honestly, I've been missing Landslide so much recently! happy to talk about it! this is my invitation for ppl to send Landslide thots :,)
and I think I said in the past there were four girls....but I decided there's five bc of course when they try for baby number four, they get twin girls instead :,)
this man is literally a fucking goner bc he also never learns how to say no to any of his daughters (neither does Faye, honestly!) so t hey usually end up getting whatever they want!!
I love the point you brought up that it's just one massive wedding fund so no one feels pressured to get married! that is SO Landslide!Bradley and Faye--they would absolutely do that! they're very considerate and accepting people and they love nothing in the world more than their sweet girls! and ANY choice that they make (even if it ends up being the wrong one) is more than okay with them!

Summary: Your sister Ridley has passed away, leaving behind her ten-year-old daughter Sadie. The Dagger Squad go out of their way to ensure you and Sadie have people you can count on. Boring Saturday nights turned into game nights, rowdy dinners, and cheering events at Sadie’s soccer games. Any milestone or opportunity they want to be there. But the last to join the group is Hangman. The moment you met Jake Seresin, your heart screamed the cocky pilot was looking for a good time, not a long time. Deciding to keep him at a distance to protect your heart, Sadie has other ideas when she learns he was purposely left out.

Doctor bradley Bradshaw dating single mom teacher reader andits being rooster first time meet her daughter being super shy and when she meets him " i wike your moustache " while hiding between readers legs maybe
sorry honey i couldn't really think of a good scenario where he would be a doctor and she would be a teacher and they'd connect while also meeting her daughter so i took out the doctor part! this isn't an au anymore, it's reader being an instructor at top gun and having a young daughter. i hope you're not too disappointed! also i know rooster would not have been in a class with the dagger squad during his time at top gun and that most of them only met for the uranium mission but fuck canon actually they're all school friends in a little group <3
--
"For the most part, I thought your simulations were done well. Many of you made rational decisions while considering both your safety and your plane's, and it showed. Some of you-" You try not to look at Hangman even though everyone else already is, "Were more... daring in your hypothetical plans. But that's something we'll discuss privately, when I come around to work through them with you."
Jake's smirk doesn't fall despite the relentless jabs he gets from everyone sitting within his range. You avoid speaking to him first, choosing to target Fanboy instead, who performed fantastically in his work.
There isn't much to go over with him, a play-by-play of his simulation that you agree with wholeheartedly. You only give him one pointer, and it's that he could be a little less cautious if he wanted to be. But you're moving onto his seatmate next, your back turned towards Rooster as you crouch over Payback's desk.
There's similarly minimal work to be done on Payback's simulation. He'd clearly done the assignment thoughtfully, and you're sure to give him a glowing review. When you step up to the side of Rooster's desk there's a lingering smile on your face, that he glances up at and returns with one of his own.
"Lieutenant Bradshaw," You nod, your voice kind, "Your work was done well. I do have a few pointers, though, if you'd let me nitpick?"
"'Thought you would," He admits, chuckling sheepishly, "It's hard to simulate something so unpredictable."
"I know what you mean," You nod vigorously, missing the sound of the door creaking open, as well as the silence that falls around the classroom from your other students, "There weren't any major problems, I just wanted to offer you some advice. I think you could change the way that you operate here," You tap your pen against the printed frame of his simulation, showcasing a maneuver he could have taken, but didn't. The second time your pen hits the page you feel something thud against your legs, and your hands brace themselves urgently on Bradley's desk to stop yourself from falling forwards into him.
"Oh!" You crane your neck backwards to see what had rammed into you, seeing the wispy-haired, pigtailed-head of your daughter.
"Oh, Lizzie," You breathe, laughing bashfully as a few coos are heard around the room. You sneak your hands beneath her arms, hauling her up off of the ground and onto your hip, "You are not supposed to be here, you know that. What happened to your group?"
"We walked by your door." Elizabeth mumbles into your neck, her tiny voice muffled nearly silent, "And I heard you talking. And I heard Phoenix, and I wanted to say hi."
Natasha gives her a sneaky wave from her seat beside the door.
"Lizzie, you're supposed to stay with the group," You try not to chide her, keeping your voice sweet as she flops herself lifeless over your shoulder, "They're going to be worried when they can't find you."
"I'll catch 'em and let 'em know," Bob offers, rising from his seat cautiously, "Probably on their way to the rec room?"
You pinch Elizabeth's side to get her to answer; she nods once into your shoulder.
You flash Bob a thankful thumbs-up as he rushes to catch Liz's daycare group, and you make a silent promise to yourself to get her a backpack with a leash on it.
When you turn back to Rooster, he's staring at your little girl. He's got a sweet smile on his face, something that no one seems to be able to withhold when looking at her tiny face. She's peeking right back at him, and you can feel her smile against your neck when he waves.
"Lizzie," He tests her name on his tongue, then glances at you, "Short for Elizabeth?"
"No," Your little girl pipes up, ready with the joke she's been waiting on (courtesy of her wisecracking grandfather) for two years now, "Lizard."
Bradley blinks.
"Lizard?"
You can't help but laugh, stifling the sound by biting your lip. He looks bewilderedly between the two of you, two giggly girls, wondering if he's crazy for mishearing something, or if you're crazy for naming your daughter after a reptile.
"It's Elizabeth," You confirm, "Her grandpa has a flair for bad jokes."
"Oh," Rooster breathes, face crumpling into half mortification and half relief, "I see."
"She steals all of his favorite ones," You lament, setting her on the floor only for her to smush herself between your legs and keep her face hidden behind your left thigh, "I think one day she's going to tell me she's 'trying to quit' when I offer her a juice box."
He snorts, "That's a good one."
A moment of silence passes between you, but it's not awkward, it's fond. You're almost ready to get back to your review of his performance, but Lizzie ducks beneath the desk to crouch by Bradley's feet. He cranes his head down to look at her, eyes questioning but kind.
"You have a plane in your pocket," She observes, poking at his F-14 keychain, "I sawed those at the gift shop once."
His face quirks into a smile at her grammar, and he tugs the keys out of his pocket so that she can fiddle with the plane.
"My dad gave it to me when I was your age," He tells her, "That's what he flew in."
"Your dad was a pilot, too?" Lizzie squints up at him, face scrunched.
"No, he sat behind the pilot. He didn't feel like driving."
Bradley's jokes seem to go over well with Lizzie, something that makes your heart flutter. She giggles at, her toothy grin on display, "You don't drive a plane, you fly it."
He chuckles, but he doesn't have time to offer her a proper response before she speaks again, still squinting up at him.
"I like your mustache," She blurts, and you're just glad she doesn't reach up to poke it, "It looks like my grandpa's."
"Less grey, though," You reach down to ruffle her hair, giving Rooster an amused smile when he bites his tongue to stop from laughing.
"Wanna know something?" He raises his brows, leaning in like he's telling Lizzie the nuclear codes.
She leans forwards, just as eager.
"My dad gave that to me, too. He just-" Rooster reaches up to tug at one end of his mustache, "-ripped it off of his face and-" He slaps a hand over his mouth, "-put it on me."
Elizabeth roars with giggles, squealing at the image. Bradley digs in his pocket, the one that hadn't held his keys, and comes out with a creased, yellowed picture from his wallet.
"See?" He holds it out to Liz, showing off a man that's undeniably his father, and a bleach blonde child you can't believe is him, "There he is, that's before he took it off and gave it to me. Can you tell it's the same one?"
"No!" She shakes her head, wobbling to her feet and reaching out. He doesn't back away, but your stomach churns awkwardly at her naive forwardness when she pokes at his lip, "Yours is more higher."
"Lizzie," You rush to grab her arm, but Rooster shoots you a soft smile.
"It's okay," He assures you, voice calm, smooth, and adoring, something that only worsens your pounding heart, "She's fine. I think she's right," He sighs, looking back at the photo, "Maybe he shaved it down before he gave it to me."
Lizzie doesn't have time to ponder the possibilities of The Bradshaw Mustache Transfer before the door creaks open again, Bob's hand bracing it open as a caregiver peers inside cautiously.
Her shoulders slump when she sees Elizabeth and she looks equal parts horrified and delighted at the sight of the unscathed little girl, "Miss Y/L/N, I am so sorry, I didn't-"
"She's an escape artist." You wave away the woman's apologies, "Don't worry about it. Even I can't keep track of her. Go on, Lizzie," You steer her away from Rooster, and you only sigh a little bit when she skips over to hug Natasha first, "And no more running off!"
She's not the one that promises you, her caregiver is. It's not reassuring.
"Anyways, I'm sorry about that," You're not sure if you mean for the general disruption, or for your daughter sticking her fingers around Bradley's mouth, but it's curved into a grin when you turn back to him, so you're sure he doesn't mind.
"It's alright," He promises, "She's cute."
"You're good with kids," You muse offhandedly, ducking down once more to peer at his papers.
"I want a few someday," He admits, righting himself in his chair and tucking the photo of his father away, "I guess this is practice."
"You'll be a fantastic father," You gleam, trying to ignore the familiar heart-flutter when his hand brushes against yours reaching for his pen, "And I'm sure your son will love to carry on the tradition of the Mustache Transfer."

There was nothing that Nick Bradshaw loved more than being a father. Sure, flying with his best friend came in as a close second. But, coming home at the end of the day to his little boy who looked exactly like him would beat out the adrenaline rush of flying any day. So when you told him that he was going to be a father again, he was overjoyed. In fact, he fell to his knees crying, and hugged you, telling you thank you over and over for giving him another chance at being a dad.
You couldn’t have asked for a better partner. Goose was by your side through the whole thing. He never missed an appointment (sometimes he even showed up earlier than you, coming from base and you from home). He knew all the milestones that the baby was reaching. You swore he knew more about what was going on with your body better than you did. You didn’t feel any sort of jealousy that this wasn’t Nick’s first pregnancy he was experiencing. It actually brought you some comfort having a partner who had done this before. He was on top of everything, making sure you were comfortable, stepping in to help you with Bradley, and getting the nursery all squared away.
When you woke up in the middle of the night having contractions, Goose was as cool as he could be. You guessed it was those years of flying in the backseat with Maverick, childbirth was an easy cakewalk. Goose held your hand the whole time, wiping the sweat away from your forehead and holding your hair back when you got sick. He let the threats and curse words you shouted at him roll off his back, knowing the second the baby was placed on your chest, all this would fade away.
And that’s exactly what happened.
The moment that Brie Elizabeth Bradshaw was placed on your chest, you were in tears and telling Goose that you were sorry for yelling at him. Goose was in such an awe state that he didn’t care about it. It was truly love at first sight when he looked at your little girl. You thought that you would be on cloud nine after giving birth. You thought that you’d go home, have this cute little family that you saw on TV, and everything would be alright. But no amount of books and TV shows could prepare you for how you really felt post-birth.
You thought it was just exhaustion at first. Brie was fussy from the jump, the doctors told you that at the hospital. She didn’t latch on right away to breastfeed right, and when she did it was only for a few seconds at a time. It was frustrating for you, who wanted to do something that most mothers did. It seemed as though the only person who could calm her down was Goose. She’d cry and cry in your arms but the second Goose held her the crying would cease. Goose told you that was okay, that Brie could tell that you were tired and needed some rest and that once you got home everything would be better.
But it didn’t get better. In fact, it almost seemed to get worse.
It wasn’t Bradley’s fault that he was excited to have a new sister. He was only four and the new baby was like a shiny new toy. Goose had a talk with him about being gentle and letting you have your space, but that seemed to go right over Bradley’s head. The little boy wanted to be by your side for every single moment of every single thing. He was climbing up next to you when you fed Brie, or standing next to you on his little step stool when you changed her, or bringing her his toys when she was fussy to try and make her feel better. You tried your hardest to not just snap, knowing that the little boy didn’t know better.
You had finally hit the wall and that’s when Goose realized this was more than just exhaustion from being a new mom with a toddler in the house. He saw the faraway look in your eyes as you did things like make bottles or wait for laundry. He noticed that every time Brie cried, you’d jump a bit and wait just a moment before going to tend to her, you looked near tears whenever Bradley would come up and try to “help” you with Brie, and you hardly engaged in a conversation with him.
“So Mav apparently has gotten in trouble again,” Goose sighed as he pulled the blankets back, “Can you believe that? I step away to be a dad and my first child runs off and gets in trouble,” He chuckled and looked over to where you were sitting on the bed, “Baby?”
“Hm?” You blinked and looked over your shoulder at him, “Mav’s in trouble?”
“Yeah, he uh. . . that’s not important,” Goose shook his head, “Are you feeling alright?”
“I’m fine, Goosey,” You tried your best to put a smile on your face but Goose could see right through that. He walked over to you and sat down next to you. He could see the unshed tears in your eyes and gently ran a hand through your hair.
“You don’t have to lie to me,” Goose whispered, “It’s okay if you’re not.”
You sucked in a breath, “Did this happen to Carole? D-did she feel like this?” You spoke through sobs and Goose quickly pulled you into his arms. He knew something really must be wrong if you were comparing yourself to his ex. You never did that. You always saw Carole as a friend and had reached out to her several times during your pregnancy.
“Everyone feels differently, baby,” Goose said, rubbing your back, “What’s going on? Talk to me.”
You shook your head, pulling away from Goose, “I’m just not good at this. I don’t know why I ever thought I was. I-I can’t make enough milk for her to eat. I can’t stop her from crying. She hates me, Goose. My baby hates me!”
Goose shushed you and gently grabbed your face, brushing away the tears with the pad of his thumb, “Brie does not hate you. And none of this is your fault. The doctor even said she’s just a fussy baby. And not every woman on the planet can breastfeed, it’s alright.”
“It’s not!”
Goose knew better than to try and argue with you about it. Your mind and body were just too tired to be able to be rational. Instead, Goose gently picked you up in his arms and pulled you into his lap. He held you tightly, rocking you gently as he whispered sweet nothings into your ear.
“It’ll be okay,” Goose whispered, pressing a kiss to the crown of your head, “It’ll be okay.”
— — —
You knew you had slept way too long when you woke up with full, sore breasts. You moaned in pain as you walked down the hall toward Brie’s nursery, only to find it empty. Your heart started racing in your chest, as you raced down the steps as quickly as you could. Tears started to fill your eyes, the nightmares you had been having started to come true.
“Goose!” You gasped out, trying to keep your tears at bay. You stood in the middle of the living room, trying to catch your breath, pulling on the strands of your hair, “Nick! S-someone took Brie!”
“What?” Goose’s eyebrows furrowed as he walked into the living room, “Sweetheart, breathe for me,” He gently took your hands from your hair, holding squeezing them gently, “What’s wrong?”
“Someone took Brie!” You cried, “I-I’m so sorry! I tried my hardest to be a good-”
“No, no,” Goose shook his head, “No one took her, I promise. She woke up crying and I got her so you could sleep. I didn’t mean to scare you, sweetheart, she’s okay.”
“What’s wrong with me!?” You cried and Goose pulled you into his arms. He gently pulled you to the couch, still keeping his arms around you.
“There is not a single thing wrong with you,” He kissed your tear-stained cheek, “You’re just tired and overworked. I’m sorry I didn’t see it until now. I’m sorry I wasn’t more helpful with feedings and Bradley,” You opened your mouth to say something but Goose shook his head, “I’ve got the next week off so I can stay home and help you. Carole agreed to switch weeks to have Bradley. It’s just us, okay?”
You nodded, sucking in a breath, “I think I need to see the doctor.”
“That’s okay,” Goose said, kissing the crown of your head, “That’s totally, okay. I can call and make the appointment while you rest. Everything you’re going through is normal, I promise you. It’ll be okay, you’ll get through it.”
“Just don’t leave me,” You mumbled against his chest.
“Never in a thousand years will I leave my girls. Hate to say it sweetheart, but you’re stuck with me.”
