oh my gosh and what if JIANG CHENG was the one who found A-Yuan in the tree so A-Yuan grew up in Lotus Pier as an adopted Jiang and alongside Jin Ling, so eventually we not only have Jin Ling processing that he doesn’t hate the two guys who killed his father, but also have A-Yuan processing that his childhood friend’s family annihilated his? and also now Jiang Cheng has TWO children.

I think there’s some real untapped comedy potential between Imperium and the Ninja’s crazy abilities and history.

Like, the Ninja can summon elemental dragons. Does anyone remember that? Conquering their fears and summoning dragons? This is like, prime bait and switch material here.

Picture this. Imperium is trying to steal dragons. They found a horde of them and started trapping. The Ninja show up, save the day, etc etc, and Kai gets the brilliant idea to summon his elemental dragon. Imperium people have never in their life seen an elemental dragon. Far as they’re concerned, its just a cool looking dragon. Its one the Ninja seem to like, so they all target it.

All of the dragons escape. Except for this red fire dragon. The Ninja leave without it. Score! They’ve at least got one dragon to take home, and its a funky new kind of dragon! So they pack it up and start to head back and where the fuck did the dragon go. What do you mean it VANISHED INTO THIN AIR. What do you mean it DISSIPATED. Is it invisible? Nope, it’s just. Gone. Completely. Poof. Did it teleport? Can dragons teleport? When was that a thing dragons could do. How. What the fuck.

This happens four more times before all of Imperium starts avoiding shifty magical looking dragons like the plague, no matter how many normal ones are around. They don’t mess with spooky teleporting dragons, no THANK YOU

Slowly quietly thinking about how water-- the classical element of change, movement, emotion, and community-- is a subtle symbol of every Cyberpunk 2077's love interest's quest once it reaches it's completion

Judy Alvarez wants to enact change. She is, at her core, an idealist, and wants to confront the injustices of the world she lives in even if she doesn't exactly know where to start. Judy sees the way the world chews up the working classes of Night City and spits them out with no remorse and is one of the only people who says "no, this shouldn't stand, we have to do something". Even though her plan to seize of Clouds is ultimately unsuccessful, she walks away having gained at least one thing: her freedom. She's tied to Night City, in many ways always will be, but she realizes her worth extends beyond the place that's done absolutely nothing for her in return, so she chooses to leave it behind. Judy's storyline ends with her sitting on the dock overlooking the reservoir of Laguna Bend.

River Ward doesn't know how to change. Blue-blooded through and through, an NCPD detective whose traumatic experiences with crime has shaped who he is. River's morality drives his work, but it also pushes those closest to him-- his sister, his niece and nephews-- away from him. As a result, we see him as the thing society shaped him to be: a no-nonsense, by-the-book cop who genuinely believes in the morality of those he works with until he's forced to look it's corruption dead in the eyes. And the second he realizes how unjust the law he fought so hard to uphold really is, he severs his ties with it and returns to the people who care for him the most. River's storyline ends with him sitting on top of a water tower.

Kerry Eurodyne is resistant to change. Why wouldn't he be? Kerry Eurodyne is the last of the old guard, a rockerboy still living 60 years in the past who's in a mansion he hates and in a corporate deal he can't break out of. So what happens when change comes along in the form of a J-Pop band that's covering his songs without his permission? He confronts them, old-school style, because that's what rockerboys like him've always done. But Kerry soon realizes that the world moving on isn't a bad thing-- what is bad is him digging in his heels and not moving along with it. The new ways can be hard to accept, but Kerry's done with spending the rest of his life grappling with a past he refuses to reconcile with, so he ushers in a new era of his life the only way he knows how to: with songs and flames. Kerry's storyline ends with him lying on the shoreline of Del Cornado Bay

Panam Palmer is desperate for her people to change. Stubborn, hardheaded Panam saw the writing on the wall and broke out for a fresh start the moment she realized Saul's 'promised land' was nothing but dust, Raffen, and dealings with Biotechnica. She struck out as a merc in Night City, running drugs and working with the local gangs. But Panam's loyality is as much a blessing as it is a curse. She comes back when her family needs her, but she is done sitting on the sidelines and watching the Aldecaldos fall further under a corporate's thumb. So she does the only thing she feels she can do: steals a panzer and shows her leaders that their clan can still be something great. She's rewarded for her actions, and the Aldecaldos retain their independence for good. Panam's storyline ends with her driving the Basilisk over a lake in the Badlands.

It was really funny watching some people on twitter who were playing Super Mario RPG for the first time wondering why Geno was the character people always brought up from the game when Mallow has more screen time. The answer is simply that Geno, both from a design and mechanics perspective, appealed more to the demographic that Super Mario RPG was aimed at. To an audience of predominantly young boys, Geno is an objectively cooler character

#super mario rpg #smrpg #super mario #geno #mallow #no hate to mallow; of course; but the truth is that Geno is cooler #Mallow comes across as more cute. he has a rounder; softer design. he's literally a crybaby #meanwhile Geno is a living doll that literally knocks mario out and is equipped with artillery #all of Geno's weapons are some manner of gun; his name is literally incomprehensible to us #getting the 9999 on Geno Whirl is the coolest thing to a kid because nothing else even comes close to doing that much #also; Mallow benefits a lot from both the party switching and the more obvious enemy weaknesses of the remake #in the original the team most people use is Mario; Peach; Geno #Peach's healing is busted; and Geno is your best mixed attacker #Geno is genuinely just above curve on both of his offenses and his magic benefits from being easier to time than Mallows #and from not having the chance to do 0 damage to an enemy because his magic is element-less #also Geno Boost is just really good since it gives you a 50% increase to attack and defense #all this together just makes Geno more appealing #he also gets bonus points for disappearing at the end

A book asks the reader to imagine any sensory input of the story, whereas a film or TV show provides both sound and visuals. Audio fiction lives in the space between these two approaches. I think there's a unique power to that middle ground. I love how audio drama asks the listener to co-construct their sensory experience of the story.

Audio drama allows me to simultaneously experience 'This character feels real to me because I've heard their voice' and 'This character feels real to me because I've pictured them myself'.

What the characters are experiencing is both directly presented to me and left to my imagination. There's no page or screen between me and the story. It's there in my ears. It's there in my mind's eye.

There's a strange sense of intimacy to that, the intimacy of feeling like a fly on the wall during a conversation or of hearing a character speaking as if directly to me. Perhaps it sounds contradictory to say that experiencing a story only through sound allows me to feel uniquely connected to that story, but that's one of the reasons why I love audio fiction so much.

#I am conscious that this is very much the perspective of a sighted and hearing person #and I hope that doesn't come across weirdly #I'm just trying to articulate how I feel about it #This is no shade to books/films/TV btw #They are also excellent mediums with their own strengths #Honestly the main reason why podcasts are my primary form of media consumption #is probs that I'm bad at setting aside time to read/watch things #rather than necessarily because of the specific power of audio fiction #but the particular magic of audio fiction is a nice bonus #I don't really buy into the idea that reading is 'active' while watching video is inherently 'passive'#but under that way of thinking audio fiction is kind of between passive and active in an interesting way #podcasts #audio drama #audio fiction #the empty man posteth #I'd be interested to know if this resonates with anyone else or if it's just me #Also another element to this which makes it weirder is that I have a pretty weak visual imagination #so when I say 'mind's eye' that tends to mean vague concepts for me rather than actual images #but it still helps me feel connected to the story in a unique way. It’d have been fun if Azula was Korra’s firebending teacher. Okay, listen, consider the redemption arc for Azula happened like decades ago when Aang was alive blah blah. Korra’s a known and recognized prodigy in bending, excellent at combat with a very heavy burden on her shoulders, sheltered by the White Lotus. Just on the basis of being prodigies, I think Azula would’ve been able to really bring out Korra’s full potential. She’d be strict and blunt, but Korra’s bull-headed and stubborn too so any challenge Azula throws at her, she’d immediately try to learn and one-up her.

IT COULD BE FUN!!! Like, Katara being Korra’s waterbending master and Azula firebending, and we;d finally get some resolution on the parallels arc the two had set up. Them coming together to ensure the future generation don’t repeat their mistakes.
