i finally finished the eden raids today, and i am full of so many feelings.

this really is a story just as much about ryne as it is about gaia. ryne making her own choices, and deciding what matters to her most. ryne realizing that while she will always love and cherish both thancred and urianger for what they have given her over the years, she doesn't need them to watch over or guide her anymore. that she will be fine, better than, even. they've given her many tools, and she will use all of those (figurative and literal, lest you think i didn't choke up when ryne used the gunblade to rescue gaia) to make her own life, her own way. you as the wol are there not as another guide or guardian, but as someone who supports her as she navigates this mission she's taken on in her own way.

this really is a story about gaia as much as it is about ryne. gaia finding out that who she is, who she wants to be, matters as much and maybe more than what she was. gaia learning to love and be loved. gaia deciding that even though she is choosing the now, choosing the future, she doesn't necessarily want to forget everything about the past. she's the embodiment of one of my favorite tropes done the best way i like it: the soulmate across time and space who when found, decides she's going to opt out this cycle. she's going to see what this life can offer her. while some part of her will always love and cherish mitron/artemis and what he meant to her for so long, she doesn't need him to be her protector anymore. she looks at ryne and says "i'd prefer this while i can have it."

what a beautiful story, full of love, hope, and self-discovery. about growing up, growing together, and even about moving on, but never forgetting. not really. things and people and events shape us into who we are, but it's like the land of the empty before you help restore it. the things that made you what you are do not have to be the whole of what you are. we're all made up of different elements, all in balance, and that is beautiful.
