✨Round 3: Match 2✨
Tumblr media
Apollo Propaganda:
Greek god of music AND poetry aka bard qualifiers
God of music and the sparkliest thing out there: ✨the sun✨
Edgin Darvis Propaganda:
honestly he was barely a dnd bard cause he didn’t cast any spells but he sure did whack people with his lute. iconic tbh
GOTTA HIT THEM WITH A LUTE (I mean he's obviously a paladin/bard multiclass, but that still counts right?)
he is amazing. that’s all there is to say.

Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves (movie) | Lord of the Rings (multimedia)
Tumblr media
Edgin Darvis & Holga Kilgore:
They’ll win with Holga’s awesome strenght and Edgin’s plans and luck and silly music
Frodo Bagigns & Samwise Gamgee:
They’re just! Iconic! They have such a powerful and kind of heartbreaking friendship that drives the whole narrative.
Note: This blog is run & followed by aromantics. Insisting any pairs are ~actually romantic~ will not only cause you to be blocked on the spot, but you’ll out yourself as someone not safe to be queer around. No one wants to hear how stupid you look with those shipping goggles on.

Astronomy Inspired Design in Media: Part 17
Dungeons and Dragons: Honor Among Thieves (2023)
End Credits (no spoilers)
Tumblr media
I spy with my little eye: a lunar volvelle!
Tumblr media
And it moves!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The two rotating arms can move independently. Each arm is distinguished at its base with icons for the sun and moon. A lunar volvelle device can be used to determine the position of the sun and moon in the zodiac by rotating the arms and comparing the final positions for a given day
A nice detail in the end credit volvelle is that the moveable arm for the sun is sitting on the bottom and is the larger of the two pieces. In a volvelle, this arm is used to indicate the current position of the sun along the zodiac. The moon arm sits on the top of the sun arm and indicates the position of the moon along the zodiac
Tumblr media
Source: GIF
Typically a vovlelle is used to determine the relative positions of the sun and moon on a given day. It can also be used to determine the length of a given day, the altitude of the sun, or other astronomical features
These functions have earned the vovelle the title “astronomical paper computers”
Even the color scheme is similar to Heidelberg's Book of Fate from 1491. Which contains this rotatable disk for determining the hours of the day

🥤 📚 🏜️ 🐝 🧩 for the ask game!! <3<3
🥤 ⇢ recommend an author or fanfic you love
Here's a few amazing fics in some different fandoms:
Dungeons and Dragons: Honor Among Thieves, Edgin/Xenk: To the Ends of the Earth by @moorishflower. An AU in which Xenk comes to recruit Ed while he's in Revel's End, there's a lot of irritation, and then they discover maybe they both misjudged the other. Xenk's internal monologue is so good.
The Witcher, Aiden/Lambert, Keira/Lambert, and Aiden/Lambert/Keira: Even if you don't know anything about Keira, or don't usually read about her, the Trust series by @bomberqueen17 is a treasure. It's got nonbinary Lambert, Aiden captured by an evil sorceress, cute domesticity, and heart-wrenching misunderstandings. You can start with Very Dark Magic if you're mostly here for the Laiden of it all, but I bet you'll want to go back and read what's been going on with Lambert and Keira.
Shadow and Bone/Six of Crows, Jesper/Wylan: My Little Pony: BDSM is Magic by @sparrowmoth. I'm not saying this just because they sent this ask! If you haven't really thought pretending to be a horse could be hot, prepare to have something awakened. Also, it's tremendously sweet and the characterization is spot-on.
MCU, Bucky/Steve: Lead Me Not into Penn Station by @kaasknot has an excellent title. It's a delicious little one shot set in pre-war Brooklyn about Bucky taking Steve to the baths for a good old-fashioned gang bang.
📚 ⇢ what's the last thing you wrote down in your notes app?
A list of things I wanted to google when I had cell reception back. 😂 I cannot function without immediate access to all knowledge!
🏜️ ⇢ what's your favourite type of comment to receive on your work?
All comments are cherished. One kind I really enjoy is the live slug reaction kind where people write down reactions as they go, sometimes pulling out quotes from the text that really strike them. Like, "Oh noooo that is so like them!" or "This line hits hard." Another type of comment I really enjoy is the woeful sort, usually in response to an angsty fic, i.e. "I am in a puddle on the floor of my bedroom now my heart will never be the same, brb my feelings are slowly draining into the void."
🐝 ⇢ tag your biggest supporter(s) and say one nice thing about them
@bittylildragon is a tremendous beta and cheerleader (and writer and artist). The amount of helpful insight and criticism they have provided over the years I've known them is.... massive.
@contemplativepancakes is such a stellar commenter. I think she's commented on, like, every Witcher fic I've ever written? I always smile when I get an AO3 notification about one of her comments.
@ainawgsd is another power commenter. I always enjoy seeing their icon (is it a German Shepherd?) in the comments section.
@kuwdora is the patron saint of obscure pairings. They are always right there with incandescent joy and thoughtful comments when I post a fic for a little pool noodle of a ship.
@rubynye is a delight who is always a bright spot in my inbox. Also, there is no squee like a rubynye squee.
🧩 ⇢ what will make you click away from a fanfiction immediately?
No paragraph breaks. I am sorry, my eyes no work like that!
From the Writers' Truth of Dare Ask Game. Send me an ask!

tag people you want to catch up with/get to know better
tagged by @shinraalpha
last song: Fire Away by Dirty Honey. i'm never not a fan of loud alt-rock with classic rock roots
last movie: i genuinely can't remember. i watch movies, especially 'new' ones, incredibly rarely. it might've been Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves, which was pretty fun.
currently reading: Mort by Terry Pratchett. this is my first Pratchett book (apart from Good Omens) and i'm really liking it so far! i've been wanting to dive into Discworld for some time now, and i recently found myself in need of a break from the hard sci-fi kick i have been on so it seemed like a perfect opportunity.
currently watching: i'm up to date on Critical Role and Worlds Beyond Number at the moment (*sob*) so i'm sort of in limbo. i've been getting back into long-form video game stuff, so i'm catching up on streams from Johnny Chiodini (they're so wholesome and their community of Lovely Skeleton Pals make their streams very comforting to watch) and started watching Nerd³ Completes: Starfield last night now that there are a few streams up on Twitch i can binge.
current obsession: my ttrpg hyperfixation streak is still going strong. i'm looking forward to watching Dimension 20: Mentopolis once all the episodes are out (bc i'm incapable of consuming content in a healthy way and require binge-ability). i've been trying out some newer crafting stuff recently too. i used alcohol inks for the first time yesterday and had fun experimenting on galvanized metal icons from Dollar Tree, and i've ordered some ceramic ornament blanks to work on.
zero pressure tags (fun mutuals i'd like to get to know!): @itisizzy @nerdygingerandproud @comet-cowboy @taavicleric @ellora-borealis @heewalle

Can I get uhhh *stares at menu* one horror movie suggestion and... *looks to people in the backseat* one fantasy recommendation and a side of your mini review of each *drives off into the sunset* 🌇
Lol, okay yeah.
--
#12: Horror Genre Movie
Scream (1996)
I honestly think the scream franchise as a whole is one of the best. It's just so iconic, I love it. And the first film will always be one of my all time favorites. Great at keeping the tension, great twists, gnarly kills, it's great. (And who doesn't love that classic knife wipe!)
Tumblr media
#15: Fantasy Genre Movie
Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves (2023)
Honestly, I went in not expecting much from this movie. As someone who plays DND I was weary of how they were gonna capture the feeling and magic of the game. But somehow they did it. It was a great movie and a fun adventure and it had the feel of an actual DND party. I could hear the DM face palming at the players ridiculous plans. It was great. Highly recommend even if you don't play DND or know anything about it. It's a great standalone fantasy film on its own.

'23 SKIDOO
Before rattling off a list of my top ten movies for the year, I should offer a disclaimer. As with most years, it's based on incomplete information. There are still quite a few significant movies I haven't yet seen. But here, based on what I've seen and how I'm feeling at this writing, is my Top Ten List for 2023.
Tumblr media
Killers of the Flower Moon--Martin Scorsese's epic yet intimate nightmare about the Osage murders in Oklahoma in the 1920s is a masterpiece; one of his best works and probably the best movie of the year.
Oppenheimer--Half of the midyear smash duo, this chronicle of the atom smasher of White Sands is a dazzling directorial performance by Christopher Nolan, fracturing his narrative yet keeping us focused. Possibly a hair overlong and anticlimactic, it's riveting at its best.
Barbie--The other half of "Barbenheimer." Greta Gerwig's brightly-colored take on the Mattel icon is crazy, imaginative and deeply goofy, yet in its own way no less serious in its ambitions. Margot Robbie is improbably touching in the title role.
Tumblr media
American Fiction--Jeffrey Wright is quietly marvelous as an African-American novelist who so resents being expected to pander to white ideas about the black experience that he does so with a vengeance and becomes a smash. Cord Jefferson's adaptation of the Percival Everett novel Erasure is both rueful and hilarious, often at the same time, and beautifully acted by Sterling K. Brown, Tracee Ellis Ross, Leslie Uggams, Myra Lucretia Taylor, Issa Rae, Miriam Shor and the criminally underutilized Erika Alexander.
Maestro--It's not so much a biopic in the usual sense as a portrait of the marriage of Leonard Bernstein and Felicia Montealegre. Bradley Cooper is luminous as Bernstein, and his reserved directorial style balances Bernstein's grand self-dramatizing manner beautifully. Yet it's Carey Mulligan's Felicia who emerges as the movie's guiding spirit.
Tumblr media
Godzilla Minus One--The Lizard King stands in for postwar despondency in this one-off, one-of-a-kind monster spectacle that's also a surprisingly moving portrait of a nation coming to terms with utter defeat, and gradually starting to rise from its own ruins.
Are You There God? It's Me, Margaret--Judy Blume's classic for adolescent girls was a long time coming to the screen, but under the direction of Kathleen Fremon Craig it struck just the right note; sweet and lighthearted.
Air--Sneakers have become such a cultural touchstone that it's probably inevitable that we'd get an origin story for athletic footwear. Ben Affleck's account of the development of the Air Jordan line and the issues around it is absorbing and amusing.
The Holdovers--Alexander Payne's '70s-period comedy, set at a private school in Massachusetts, is essentially a vehicle for the performances of Paul Giamatti as a splenetic ancient history teacher, Da'Vine Joy Randolph as a bereaved cafeteria manager and Dominic Sessa as the kid they're stuck with for the holidays. But what performances they are.
Tumblr media
Saltburn--After her stunning debut with Promising Young Woman, Emerald Fennel's second feature, a neo-gothic take on class, is by comparison a little overwrought and sour. But it's no less brilliant, and it comes together joltingly at the end.
A few others that I found to be worth my time: The Blackening, A Haunting in Venice, Dumb Money, Jules, Theater Camp, Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny, Thanksgiving, Somewhere in Queens, Cocaine Bear, Renfield, Dungeons and Dragons: Honor Among Thieves, Napoleon and The Boys in the Boat.
A superb 2024 to us all!
