Hello there! This ask may be a little out of the blue, but I thought I'd give it a shot. I am currently part of a recursive fanfic event. It's called @mcytrecursive . There's a lot of information there, but tl;dr, it's an ao3-held event for fanworks based on already existing fanworks! I am a really big fan of ouroboros. I'm a really big fan of all your work, but ouroboros is probably my favorite dream SMP fanfic of all time, and I have made every single one of my friends read it with my nonstop chatter about it. I would be super honored, and super stoked, to be granted your permission to be able to make work inspired by this work in the exchange; that's my benefit, and one for you is that you can possibly get a lot of new work from creators who love this fic (almost) as much as I do. One thing that is required to be able to recurse your work in this exchange is a publicly linkable permission statement, like a public answer to this ask, or stated or linked in your ao3 profile, or in the notes section of the fic. The permission can also come with any stipulates or limits you would like it to. Of course, if this is something you are not interested in or comfortable with, I in no means intend to pressure you. So @simplepotatofarmer is hosting a 4k followers event and I wanted to participate! It's quite simple really (like the potato farmer), we just make techno art and they'll give us freshly baked yeasty delicious fics based on it!

I'm quite proud of coming up with this tbh, it could mean a lot of things, lol

Bonjour! In the spirit of curiosity, I'm going around asking people things about their experiences in fandom. Ahhhh, I was meaning to reply to this earlier but I procrastinated. Oops!

Hmm, I wasn't sure about the exact definition of a fan-run event so I will just go for a loose term, i.e. not necessarily an event but also inclusion of some prompt list as well! So the answer is yes, I have joined a few fanrun event before and I appreciate how organised they were! Communication is clear and things happened on the date that they should plus good feedback/QnA system for any potential concern/queries! I also appreciate politeness in these sort of things (blame that on my old bone but we can all use some nice things in life)

As of some of the pieces I have made, I have decided to take the chance to compile them into a list as best as I could!

Hi apple I’m not a follower of urs but GOD that post of yours is exactly what I’ve been saying for ages. On anon so I don’t get swarmed but ohhh my god as a former inniter (healed-ish❤️) c inniters can be some of the most repugnant people fucking ever. A lot of them are downright cruel and openly post death threats. Last year, when Dream apologists were getting gore and death threats sent to them. I ended up dming a few to check in and all of them were super kind despite the fact I was an inniter and they were, well, getting death threats. I was vagued for saying “maybe don’t send death threats, porn, or gore to a population of largely minors that’s inappropriate”. They cannibalize their own community because they’re so rabidly hostile to each other. It’s sick and has driven me away from the fan base of the character.

Not to mention looking for MCYT fics at all is hell on earth. Even IF you filter the tommy tag.

Ah I'm sorry to hear that. To be honest y'know I try to be #notallcinniters but many recent events combined made me not trust that side of the fanbase at all.

And it sucks that the fanbase around c!Tommy is full of such toxicity coz, even though I myself am not a fan of the character, it upsets me to see some c!Tommy fans in Dreblr lament over the fact that it's hard to find fellow enjoyers they can interact with. And I've seen a lot of people express that their dislike of the character is at least somewhat influenced by the way some of his fans act.

I dunno what else to say, it just all sucks. I'm sorry you had to deal with all that anon. Wish this fandom was kinder.

c!Tommy, Exile, and Loneliness: an Analysis

By someone who watched every stream live and is not a fan of the fanon interpretation — redtaxproject analysis

Exile, for all its importance to the story of the Dream SMP, is often misunderstood and misrepresented by the fandom — exaggerated into a far darker storyline than you would expect from an arc that included the main villain stripping on a log for Twitch subscriptions. Much of this ultimately comes down to the focus on c!Dream as the villain, seeing him as the cause of all c!Tommy’s suffering — meanwhile ignoring both c!Tommy’s arc up until that point, and the various contributions of other characters that make the arc what it was.

To understand how exile affected c!Tommy’s, we first need to understand how the events leading up to exile affected him — he did not go into exile as a blank slate. Beginning with the events of November 16th 2020, there’s the perceived betrayal of both c!Technoblade (turning on the Pogtopians after realising he’d been lied to) and c!Wilbur (setting off the explosives after saying he wouldn’t). This is followed only a few weeks later with the situation that led to his exile — a seemingly inconsequential bit of griefing escalated by politics, with people he thought were his friends turning on him (with c!Quackity and c!Fundy specifically showing a willingness to only side with him when he was likely to win and/or it benefited them).

After losing two of his closest friends, c!Tommy then had to face the fact that c!Tubbo, as president of New L’Manburg, now had split responsibilities and had to prioritise the country over his best friend. Both of these factors together influenced c!Tommy’s mental state going into exile, making him feel abandoned by his friends. This was only amplified by the presence of Ghostbur through most of his exile, constantly reminding him of c!Wilbur’s death.

Now that we have established how the events leading up to exile affected c!Tommy, we can discuss the exile itself. While a common complaint about the arc is that, despite claiming to be alone, c!Tommy is visited regularly, this claim misunderstands why c!Tommy felt alone during exile. For the duration of exile, c!Tommy could only be visited by others — he couldn’t choose to visit someone. This is highlighted when he is unable to go to see the community Christmas tree — while someone builds a Christmas tree for him at Logstedshire, it wasn’t the same as going to see one himself. There’s also the fact that c!Tubbo never visited him.

C!Tommy also comes to view others visiting him as a form of pity, which explains one of the more controversial parts of the arc — c!Tommy dropping c!Jack Manifold in lava when he comes to visit him, lashing out and killing him. Both of these factors are shown with his attempt to hold a beach party (inviting others rather than waiting for them to come) and his response to no-one showing up, which is to deny.

All of this, however, is not to discredit c!Dream’s actions during this arc. The main mistake fanon makes when considering c!Dream is in the belief that he is good at manipulating people — in fact he is quite terrible with it, usually failing in most cases when he tries to persuade someone to do something with words (as shown during the El Rapids conflict and the dethronement of c!George). Instead, where c!Dream excels is in the manipulation of events — taking advantage of things that have happened for his own goals (such as using c!Tommy’s griefing against him), and setting up situations by predicting how others will act (such as staging the disc confrontation).

While his overall plan is still unknown, during the exile arc, c!Dream’s main goal appears to be driving c!Tommy and c!Tubbo apart, separating them physically and mentally, in order to create a situation where he would be in possession of both discs. In order to achieve this he spent his time hindering c!Tommy’s progress, highlighting the fact that others had turned on him, and constantly reminding him of the consequences of returning to the main SMP area. Even when c!Tommy left Logstedshire and hid from c!Dream, his goal was still achieved as c!Tommy teamed up with c!Technoblade — which may have been part of his plan all along.

Finally, we can discuss the events leading up to c!Tommy escaping exile. As a result of everything discussed above, c!Tommy begins to spiral, resulting in suicidal thoughts and apathy towards harm (such as letting mobs attack him). After c!Dream discovers his hidden stash of items, and destroys the progress he’s made, c!Tommy appears to be contemplating suicide — until he realises that the limitations of his exile are, effectively, all in his mind, created by fear. He could always leave at any time.

So he does.

Dreblr Secret Santa Event 2021!

in honour of a few mcyt secret santa events floating around, i thought i’d plan one specifically for dreblr !!

if you’re interested, keep reading !! below the cut i’ll talk about rules and explain it more in detail :))

WHAT IS A SECRET SANTA EVENT? the idea is that a group gets together and are randomly assigned another person from that group to buy (or in this case create) a christmas/holiday present for them !! for the case of dreblr, those that want to participate will be given a name of another random person from dreblr to create a holiday present for !! in return, you’ll be given an anonymous gift from someone else in dreblr too. 

the form leaves space to specify what content you’re happier making / receiving, and i’ll assign you to the correct person !! at the end of the deadline (december 5th, december 15th if you need an extension), you’ll give a gift, receive a gift, and hopefully have a good day in general :DD

TIMELINE: 

the cut off to apply for this is WEDNESDAY 10TH NOVEMBER (midnight gmt)

you’ll know who you will be making a gift for by thursday 11th / friday 12th!

a casual, non-stress checkup will be done on nov 20th - 25th to make sure nobody is super behind or stressed (or to see how i can help stop you being Stressed lol)

the deadline to finish is december 5th, and if you need an extension, december 15th. if you need longer than this, talk with me!! :)

when all gifts are finished, they’ll be given out around december 20th (if this changes i’ll let you guys know haha)

FURTHER RULES: 

the word counts / etc stated in the form are the minimum we’re accepting to make sure everyone feels they’ve got an equal present!! if you want to go beyond that, PLEASE be my guest, but try not to go under :))

abide by people’s triggers and don’t create them anything that goes against the triggers they state (they’ll be linked to you when i tell you who your gift is for). 

you’ll have 24 hours to respond after i send you your person so that i know you got the message!! if you don’t respond i will take you out of the event whoops

Ohhhh I really like the idea of everybody having their own personal masks everybody would have their own rendition of the smily face it would be so cool also it would high key intimidate other villages that don't know much about dreblr to amplify the cool mystery points

I like the image of going to the rivals village to get dnb crumbs from artists who obviously would never ship them totally never ever (but they totally do because have you seen the twitter rivals tag it's full of shippers in disguise) and then sneaking out from the tunnels in the dark and whenever we turn another person into a dnb shipper we show them how to get around the tunnels to not get found out

Yeah I feel like some sectors of Ranboo's village which actually I think that community is called the boobers but I refuse to call them that being really really against it but I think the mayority wouldn't be because a big chunk of Ranboo's lore is acknowledging that he's on Dream's side because that's what he believes in himself so I feel like the people who actually care and know the most wouldn't be against it

On the other hand dreblr and Punz's village besties forever they have the staged finale secret mini village where all the people who called it go to

Maybe the Dream Team SMP itself can be where all the villages exist at and the Dream Team Capital right in the middle and everything surrounds it or connects to it somehow the second biggest village would be the SBI one I'm pretty sure

Also can you imagine just all the villages getting together to go to the Dream Team Capital to check on the treaties or the masquerades with everybody or the events like the Sea Teams event where almost every cc participated

iʼm actually replying so late this time. iʼm so out of myself when iʼm answering your previous asks and then... i fell asleep (thank xd iʼm not late to my school this morning).

one can dream honestly. besides, if i do have one, my parents wil kill me because of the print (literally says fuck”). my family is a bit conservative so... ;-;

maybe the intimidation our masks have is just one of the few quirks they have. i canʼt think of anything beside identifier and for intimidation purposes though (i finished my science activity and my brain is pending `till now). and yeah! the masks are definitely mysterious especially when every citizen of the dreblr village have one.

wait... in every village and society, there is a government or some sort, right? so what if... what if the ones (not all of them, of course) that lead (excluding dream and techno) rivals village are actually shippers? because honestly, how did they even build the tunnel underground without anyone noticing? seems suspicious to me. guess someone helped them from the top o-o

yeah, after dream posted that one video on his dreamxd channel, all of us probably know by the now that ranboo (or should i say enderboo...?) works for him. and honestly, iʼm second guessing whether ranboo is the host or enderboo. because you know, what if sometimes in the past itʼs always enderboo whoʼs in control and then something happened that made them switched places. maybe iʼm just over analyzing things; who knows? *shrugs*

a mini village sounds a good idea! but i donʼt want it to be mini though. i mean, we have the rivals village, why canʼt we have staged village, right? there are going to be a lot of people in there. plus!—from the comic that we saw, some people moved to staged village because rivals village donʼt have enough food. make it a whole village, please ;-;

so dream team smp is the land and the dream team village is the capital? sounds good to me! but people may misunderstood the name of the capital... they may think of it as just the dream team without the others. ehhh, thatʼs their problem now. besides, it was the dream team that made that land their smp so i donʼt seebthe problem with it.

and yes, the sbi is probably a huge village second to the dream team. do i even need to explain why? i think not *winks*

the capital holds the biggest events they can have because, of course, they can! thereʼs no fun if itʼs a just a bunch of villages with food/crumbs and stuff like that. i mean, we all know that whore dream happened in the smile village so... o-o

What types of art are allowed?

Writing, poetry, fanart, webweaving, pixel art, comics, handicrafts – anything! It all counts.

Do I have to make something for every day?

Not at all! You can make as much or as little as you want. There is no minimum word count, or number of pieces, or even a maximum! If you want to create for multiple prompts you are entirely free to do so.

Is there anything that is disallowed?

You can make any type of content you want, including NSFW, shipping, gore, c! and cc! content, etc. and in any medium you want with only one exception: AI generated art is prohibited. Your responsibility as a creator is to tag your work correctly and accurately. Likewise, you are responsible for your own engagement with fan created works; it is upon you to take care of yourself.

Why is AI art not allowed?

The subject of AI art is, understandably, a topic that a lot of people feel strongly about. The statements “the place of AI in our society is very new and the issues surrounding it are complex and nuanced” and “AI art is currently being fuelled by immense and upsetting art theft as there are no legal protections for artists and creators yet” do very much co-exist. As of right now, the creation of AI art is unethical due to these lacking protections, and as such it is disallowed from the event.

I have a fan work that I’m already creating – can I submit it to this event?

This event is primarily intended to provide prompts that new fan works are then created from. That being said, with 31 prompts available, if your fan work fits into one of them, you may submit it for a prompt that it aligns to. If your fan work does not fit into at least one of the prompts, then it cannot be submitted for this event.

Hey, I've created a work and you haven't reblogged it. What gives?

All works created for this event have a place here on this blog, so if I've missed your work then please know that it is not intentional or malicious. If I haven't reblogged your work after a 24 hour grace period (I do have my own life and I'm not on Tumblr 24/7, please give me a day to actually see it), then check the following:

If it's after Sunday 19th November 2023, I am no longer actively monitoring the event tag. Please ensure that you directly @ this blog.

Tumblr's shadow-ban glitch means that original posts you create cannot be seen in tags and @'ing other users or sending asks/DMs is inconsistent. Check to ensure that you haven't been shadow-banned (you can send in a ticket to Support if you have), and in the meantime try to get into contact with this blog both by yourself and by asking others to help you if your own messages are not getting through.

What about CC boundaries?

I, and this event, take the view that CC boundaries are the rules for directly interacting with content creators (e.g. messages in their chats, tagging them in fanart, etc.). Fan content that exists by itself is making no moral statement. If you are not directly tagging content creators in works, then boundary breaking content is allowed.

Just a couple of last things:

I will still be actively monitoring the event tag for the next two weeks, stopping on Sunday 19th November. After that, I may check in now and again, but it will be more passive.

However, that does not mean that you only have two weeks to submit fan works - if you tag this event blog, your work will be reblogged here and enter the archives of works made for this event. Yes, even if you tag this blog in a few months' time.

So don't mourn that you missed it or feel like you're bothering anyone by joining in on the fun after the event week is over (I'm certainly not anything less than enthusiastic for more works!). Please don't hesitate to create!

The mask above Charlie’s face was familiar.

Not the comforting familiarity of Las Nevadas, of bright lights and big halls and people who never seemed to sleep. No, this was more of a twisted nostalgia. He cast his mind back, to months and years of digging himself in and watching the world go by.

Such memories told him that this mask belonged to Dream. More recent memories told him that this was an extremely bad thing. Dream meant danger.

There was a sword at Dream’s hip.

After the failed attack on Las Nevadas, Dream refuses to leave the prison.

When he and Punz finally talk, Dream isn't behaving as expected.

Only a month after the Las Nevadas attack did Punz see Dream again.

It wasn’t for lack of trying. Every night, they paced up and down the tower, biting back frustration every time they asked to talk face to face again, now that things had gone so horribly wrong. It doesn’t even have to be in the prison, they had said, and they hadn’t mentioned the way the vines and overgrowth made it feel more like a tomb than a home.

Dream had, instead, kept them updated on the situation in clipped notes over the communicator. It was an inefficient system at best, a breakdown in cooperation at worst, not to mention how a bullet point summary gave Punz exactly no insight into Dream’s mental state.

I'm obsessed with how Dream and Punz ruined their lives trying to save the world and cheat death, putting themselves through hell and back to discover some greater meaning about this unnatural power, while DreamXD watched them knowing full well he only dropped the books into the world because he sorta felt like it one day.

Engaging in fandom spaces, whether it's art or writing or edits or another form of expression, comes from a place of genuine passion. It's creating for the love of creating, because you deeply care about the media. And that's terrifying.

That kind of vulnerability is stressful! It gets easy to wonder if you're just being stupid, to think that nothing you've done is as good as other people's so you might as well just quit. It's made worse by the the types of numerical validation you see on every site, even here. No one else cares about what you're making, the numbers prove it, so why should you?

But here's the thing. The impact you're leaving cannot be measured by numbers. I'm speaking from experience. Until recently, I never even had accounts for engaging with the content I enjoyed. I would hang around Tumblr and Twitter and AO3, completely anonymously, and it was amazing. I've read fics that have brought me to tears, that have been some of the most beautiful pieces of fiction I've ever read, period. And the authors would never have known!

And maybe it does seem a touch selfish not to share around content I enjoyed to give it more traction, and maybe I should have done better, but once again, fandom spaces are scary. The longer I spend in them, the more I realize that other people feel the same way! There are so many people out there, waiting for every new post, enthusing over every little thing you make, who you don't even know exist.

The whole point of a fandom is that it's a community. We're all here for the same reasons. For as long as you make fan content, there will always be someone out there to appreciate it.

My #1 post of 2022

I was rewatching Bad's prison visit and it hit me how Sam really asks people, "Do you think the prisoner is deserving of being locked up in the prison?"

Just, the implications of that question. This isn't a fun little quiz, these are questions that could deny you entry from the prison. It goes against the mechanical way Sam would treat the prison itself, with its safety measures and procedures that he must follow every time, those same redstone mechanisms he maintains seamlessly.

And yes, you could argue that it's logical to want to know if a visitor is likely to want to break Dream out, but it's not like they would actually answer truthfully if they did. It's yet another way that Sam tries to apply objective logic to a situation that requires nuance.

Which begs the question, is anyone who thinks Dream doesn't deserve to be locked up evil too? What do they deserve? Does having these thoughts, even without acting on them, warrant punishment? If Bad had turned around and said no, I don't think Dream deserves this, would Sam have simply sent him away, or would that not be enough to keep the prison safe?
