time for another wave of ‘Iroh shouldn’t have gone back to the Jasmine Dragon because it was a place created on fake names and identities and living a life that was going to be a dead end for Iroh and Zuko because they had nowhere else to go at the time and by shoving Iroh back there it gave him what he WANTED but what he NEEDED was to help Zuko actively begin reparations to the world as Fire Nation Royalty, and to ensure that Zuko was healthy and thriving in his new role AND!!!!! it would have been good to see him begin to extend that patience to Azula, whose mindspace is a battlefield and in trying to show her that she could have someone who won’t leave, who won’t abandon her, who can show her she is more than what her father created, it would have only further cemented Iroh’s place as wanting to help the family heal AND!!! It would have given both Azula and Zuko a mediator, and they could finally start to come together and begin repairing their relationship now that Ozai has no hand in separating them and THEN!!!! when Iroh has seen to it that his niece and nephew are thriving and happy and healthy he can reopen his tea shop and whether it’s in the Fire Nation or Earth Kingdom or wherever I don’t care but the Jasmine Dragon in the Upper Ring of Ba Sing Se needs to remain a memory because narratively it’s a dead end and should have been tweaked for Iroh’s ending.

I have no idea if I'll ever fucking get around to writing Wishbone's lore so I'll explain what the city is outright:

the big reveal by the end of that particular storyline is supposed to be that Wishbone isn't a city, it's the lure on an eldritch anglerfish. the reason why so many citizens have a conflicting view of the city (for example, Kestrel came to Wishbone by train, even though no one else has ever seen train tracks running through the desert) is because it's shaped to fit the individual's ideal view via magic fuckery. everyone that came to wishbone was unhappy. everyone wanted something more. and that Want led them to Wishbone - a city they have never heard of before yet one they innately knew had what they were seeking, and also, somehow, knew how to find. every version of Wishbone is true and none of them are. the beast below is simply stockpiling food for when it wakes from its slumber and gets the desire (not a need, the shade needs nothing.) to feed again. it's why the magic chargers in Wishone are so potent - they draw from the massive, massive well that is the creature. it's also why shade beasts are so drawn to the city - that powerful pull of magic that draws them in with the need to consume. with so many dragons in one place, they assume that's all that the pull is. because once a magic source gets so big, it's hard to tell its actual size. and the maw doesn't mind sharing its food with other shade, it'll end up eating them anyway. they can devour as many dragons as they want, so long as they're prepared to be devoured in turn. the creature feels no malice, only that pure, insatiable hunger that any shade knows, no matter if they act on it or not. dragons Want, and the shade Hungers, and that's how it will be until the great shade that lurks in the depths of space grows big enough to swallow sornieth whole, gods and all, and never knows hunger again.

While I know it’s generally bad for leaks to happen (unless they are intentionally encouraged by the developer, and yes this seems to be a thing, as Mark Darrah himself even mentioned in the past), and there’s no real point in overanalyzing something that is pre-Alpha footage from over a year ago (!!)... I’m just glad it didn’t contain some major spoilers story wise, because I wouldn’t know how to avoid them until whenever this game actually releases. 😂 I’d like to know as little as possible about the story and the characters going into it.......

HOLY SHIT GUYS This seems legit and we are probably looking at the very first glimpse of REAL (pre-Alpha) DA4 gameplay footage after EIGHT flippin years, which means this game is REAL, it’s actually happening, it’s a real game that’s playable and everything and ahhhh!!! Weisshaupt?? Davrin?? A dragon?? Darkspawn?? Purple stuff??? DID YOU SEE THAT HAIR ANIMATION THOUGH??

I’ve already seen plenty of people speculating and while we should take everything with a grain of salt here of course, there was a comment on a reddit post by another (supposed) playtester that confirmed “Rook” to be indeed the protagonist’s name/title! 👀 And while this could be of course just a placeholder name for whatever it’ll actually end up being, there could be a lot to derive from this!

- As people have pointed out, “Rook” does sound a lot like a code/spy name, much like Charter, Butler, Farrier or any of Leliana’s spies

- Rook being also a type of crow, fitting in perfectly with the bird themed names like Hawke

- In slang, it’s ALSO another word for “swindler” or “deceiver”, which also reminds me a lot of how there was a Lord of Fortune in Tevinter Nights who used the name “Hollix” as part of their disguise during a mission (which btw was actually the name of Dorian’s mother’s pet nug lol)

So all of this considered, and assuming that the leaked footage might have been part of the very beginning of the game (and how the leaker seemed to suggest that Grey Warden is just one of multiple factions you can choose from!), can I just say that my speculation about how DA4 might start off with an infiltration mission of one of four factions (Grey Warden/Antivan Crow/”Veil Jumper”/Tevinter.. something), while playing as a “spy” (/Lord of Fortune?? 👀) under the alias “Rook”, might actually turn out to be true after all??? (°ロ°)

I mean.. it could just end up being a simple “choose your class/faction” at the start and that’s it 😂, but either way, if we get something resembling different “origin stories”, like depending on which faction you choose, the game starts off with a different mission (similar to what Cyberpunk did?), I think that would be an awesome concept! (Not setting any expectations here though! 😌 The game might start off at Weisshaupt no matter which faction you choose!)

But back to topic, the rook being of course also a piece in a game of chess, which was depicted on the cover of Mark Darrah’s red “Joplin” book first seen in 2016!

Which in turn also of course immediately takes us back to the amazing mind chess game between Solas and Iron Bull, referencing a real game that happened in 1851 known as “The Immortal Game”. While people have been taking Solas sacrificing most of his pieces as well as his queen (Flemythal) only to then strike the final blow and win by moving the bishop (mage) as foreshadowing and also a perfect respresentation of how both Solas and Iron Bull think and strategize, what’s interesting to note, is that it’s the turn in which Bull takes Solas’ rook that ultimately seals Solas’ win in the end. 

Now, this could mean absolutely nothing of course, but with this new information from the leaks, maybe there’s more to it than we think. 👀

Then there’s also the link to Solas’ final Tower tarot card of course...

Other than that, I just think it’ll be really cool to have a chess themed aesthetic for DA4 following the tarot card theme of DAI! Or just the idea of having a “game of minds” like the Immortal Game rather than just relying on “brute force” with an antagonist like Solas, that requires a certain level of strategic thinking and consideration from us in how we act/make decisions to outwit him, would make a lot of sense to me!

(Or we might as well reference that one Simpsons episode with the “human chess board” and cover both brute force AND strategic thinking lmaoo)

Or, even better, let us do something like the flippin “logic chess” mechanic from that glorious Ace Attorney spin off game lmaooo

Let’s bombard Solas with some hard hitting arguments. lmao

I will say though that, if “Rook” does actually end up being the title/name of our next protagonist, I’m once again very curious how the hell they’re gonna make this work in the localized versions, if they do attempt to translate the name literally. Let us pray that they’ll just stick to English for this one, or else the multiple meanings of the term will be completely lost in translation. lol Can’t wait to play as flippin “Turm” in German or “Tour” in French. 😂

DOMESTIC UNIVERSE CROSS ARC

A rewrite of a 2017 mini fic

Well, this is a big throwback rewrite I wrote on a whim based on the plot of two old mini "chat" fics- two rewritten chat dialogues with a new fully written in fic prose part 3! A little self-challenge to revisit old content and work off of it. A bit of Frieza, Kuriza, Frost, and a little Hit.

General Preface Notes:

There are no ties to "Shattered Ice" or any of my Frabba shipping content.

This does not reflect my current depictions of Frit- I still ship it, but there's implications of... stronger shows of affection that I tend not to delve into much.

The headcanon I use has no biologically female Arcosians- you'll see why.

The setting is somewhat of a "domestic fluff" world that allows the universes to intersect and the characters within to casually interact. No need to take it too seriously to canon.

PART 1 (SCENE SET: A CAFE in the OTHERWORLD; "just visiting", FRIEZA is conversing with COOLER) FRIEZA: And then, the hopeless fool, he just starts screaming- (mocking FROST's voice) "Treat me like some sort of neophyte will you? I'll show *you*!" (his ringtone, "Cold as Ice", starts sounding from his pocket) Blast... and right at the good part. Hang on a moment, I need to take this. (answers) Hello? FROST: (nervously on the other end) Uh, h-hello, Frieza... FRIEZA: (sigh) What is it, Frost? FROST: Um, I'm sure you don't want to hear this, but I'm kind of calling you from an ambulance. FRIEZA: Ambulance?! What happened over there?! FROST: Well, everything was going just fine and then Kuriza just collapsed all of a sudden. (a pause, prompting him to frantically clarify) It's not like I accidentally stuck my needles in 'im or anything! FRIEZA: (sternly) Frost. Did you give him anything to eat? FROST: Nothing out of the ordinary, the usual pantry fare, plus I had gone to the store and brought over some brownie- (mutters) Ah shi- FRIEZA: Frost. What the hell did you do to my son? FROST: There may have been nuts in those... FRIEZA: How many times did I have to point out the very obvious red 72 point note on the fridge that told you not to feed him those?! This is why! FROST: I thought it was just because he didn't like them... or because eating a chestnut would be cannibalism in a sense- FRIEZA: It's because he's *allergic*, you dolt! FROST: Well, the box just said it *may* contain nuts! I was betting on "no"! I've never found one- FRIEZA: (grumbles and rubs the bridge of his nose) Well, clearly your amateur status extends beyond your fighting "prowess" or lack thereof. At least you have better skill in *that* than in taking care of children. I'm coming over there! Tell the people at the hospital that they'll need a second stretcher for when I'm done with you! FROST: Frieza-senpai, please, it was a genuine mis- (FRIEZA hangs up) COOLER: Hmph. Didn't know your stories about that twit weren't exaggerating that much. FRIEZA: Yes, clearly Frost wasn't the best choice to babysit Kuriza. Let's try this coffee thing again sometime, when your nephew *isn't* in medical danger. COOLER: If not for that old crone being so jittery around us, I'd say I'd come along as an... *extra hand*. FRIEZA: (chuckles, a little shaky because of the circumstance) No need, brother. I'm perfectly capable of delivering the due punishment by my own hand. Now, I'm off to hand my babysitter's tail to him on a bloody platter for endangering my son's life. Ta-ta~ ------------

PART 2 (SCENE SET: A HOSPITAL RECEPTION AREA, a frantic FRIEZA has stormed up to the main desk) FRIEZA: Please tell me my Kuriza is going to be fine! Tell it to me straight! HOSPITAL RECEPTIONIST: Mr., umm, Frieza, is it? We can assure you that your son will be alright, he's stable. A minor reaction, just from a trace amount. FRIEZA: (mentally) Minor?! Geez, dramatic even in anaphylaxis... HOSPITAL RECEPTIONIST: Thankfully, your sitter found the epipen and called right away. Otherwise, his recovery may not have been as smooth as it was. (FRIEZA suddenly realizes that he was wrong about FROST) FRIEZA: I see. And where is that sitter of mine now? HOSPITAL RECEPTIONIST: Last time I checked, he was trying to hide himself in a gardening magazine. I don't know about now. FRIEZA: I'll find him one way or another... FROST:(nervously squeaks, causing FRIEZA to turn and see him in the crawl space beneath the waiting room chairs) FRIEZA: Frost, come out of there! FROST: Plea- Please, spare me Frieza... FRIEZA: Stop resisting. (pulls FROST from out of the chairs) FROST: P-Please, I have- (FRIEZA hugs him instead of attacking) Huh? FRIEZA: Thank you. Sure, your actions from the start were... *reckless*, but your quick reflex to call for help saved Kuriza's life. FROST: Much obliged but- could you let go? This is getting kind of awkward. FRIEZA: (release) Yes, of course. I was hoping you'd say something. FROST: Heh. FRIEZA: Now, what were you talking about earlier? FROST: What? FRIEZA: You said you had soemthing. FROST: (sigh) Well I guess that cat's out of the bag... FRIEZA: What cat's out of the bag? FROST: I should have told you earlier, but... I... I have a... (Swallowing, he still can't say it- he taps to his lower abdomen then makes a cradling gesture with his arms; FRIEZA gets the picture) FRIEZA: (cries out as loud as allowed in a hospital) Pardon?!?! You- FROST: (nods) Awhile back... before you called me to take care of Kuriza, I was having some awful pains, sick to my stomach. Then, the unexpected happened. All of a sudden, I laid an egg. FRIEZA: You... laid an egg? But who would be the- (notices FROST looking a bit nervous as the answer hits him) Ah. Anyway, if I knew you were about to become a father, I wouldn't have hired you on such short notice. My plans could have waited. You could have declined. FROST: Yeah, but I wasn't ready to tell anyone. Hit nearly passed out when he found out about the egg and, considering he's a tough assassin, I wasn't sure how other people would react. I just... wanted life to seem normal again, even if it was just for a few hours. I was still a bit frazzled, so that's why I wasn't at my best when taking care of your son. FRIEZA: I understand now, Frost. We need to get you home. FROST: Why? FRIEZA: So you can look after your egg, obviously. The thing needs warmth. FROST: I put it under a heat lamp, it should be fine. FRIEZA: No heat lamp can beat a father's warmth. (FRIEZA gestures to the gem on his chest. FROST touches his own to find that it has significantly warmed up.) FRIEZA: Here. (pulls money out his wallet) This much should cover the bus fare to your place (as he speaks, he takes a little more out), and perhaps some melatonin drops from the drugstore. FROST: Wait, why do I need mela- FRIEZA: (dead serious glare) You will need all the sleep you can get while you can. Now, head to the bus stop down the street and get home. FROST: What about Kuriza? FRIEZA: Ugh, excuses, excuses, Frost. Kuriza's going to be fine now that his father's here. Now, get home! I shouldn't have to tell you again. FROST: O-of course... Thank you. #like I love Jolyne as well for that (among many other reasons) but with Ichi esp I can relate to the potential disconnect he has #with his family heritage that he never got the chance to take part in and learn about #obviously our situations are different but id love to see Ichi learn about Hawaiian culture and get outside the tacky rich tourist areas #while hes there. and im rly hoping the game tries to touch on the rly weird and depressing dilemma in Hawaii of marketing your culture #to exist in a dwindling economy that depends on tourism #ive seen activists describe the tourism of Hawaii as cultural prostitution with how it warps the culture to be tourist friendly #so i hope Ichiban gets to enjoy the fun tourist mini games and side stories but also see the darker side of Hawaii #it would be a great mirror to the flash of Kabukicho and Yokohama that hides the lurking underworld and societal dysfunction of the Yakuza #aaaaaAAAAA THIS SERIES #sloot plays #like a dragon 8 spoilers #.like a dragon
