Be Not Afraid

Danny's forms were pretty stable in the Infinite Realms, and well, his own dimension. The problem was when he had to run certain errands elsewhere (Clockwork's fault) and the universes didn't know where to put him.

Despite having two defined forms in his original dimension. The other dimensions seemed to decide that Danny didn't need that, and his humanity had to go, or something. The halfa couldn't understand it.

So of course, he ended up looking very amorphous and strange when he traveled to other dimensions. Sometimes with multiple eyes, at other times his body was made of pieces of ice, there were times when he was just a toxic green eye that glowed and blinded whoever saw it. The only thing that remained constant was that he didn't look human. Which made most of his tasks difficult. People feared the unknown after all.

When he arrived in the DC universe he didn't expect a welcoming committee. He even told them "Be not afraid" the moment he landed on a crowded street, but apparently that was counterproductive, since they classified him as some kind of avenging angel.

With a sigh, Danny kept exploring and the strangest things happened to him: Two glowing rings chased him everywhere (One was black and the other was white, but he had a feeling that taking them wouldn't be the smartest move, the ring and the crown were very jealous since he was crowned after all)

And a British magician... flirted with him? Danny was pretty sure the hellbazer was seeing him as eyes and ice floating but that didn't seem to stop him from trying. The halfa didn't know if he was flattered or worried.

Anyway, he couldn't find Dr. Fate, nor "Justice League Dark", whatever it was. But the wizard, Constantine, was willing to take him on a date. The rings continued to follow him while some people with green rings looked in the background (they looked strangely scared) and a new religion had been created for "The Great One" which reminded him of Frostbite.

Traveling was hard.

Is there a mandate in Teen Titans Go where they say Robin and Starfire are never allowed to be an actual couple in the show?

I don't understand why they don't want them to be together they make Starfire reject Robin.

I don't think it would cause any problem if they become a thing, they can still make comedy jokes in the show while being in a relationship at the same time.

i think TTG is a low effort parody show, so to change something fundamental to the original concept (having TTG robin chase TTG starfire) would take too much effort. the show would have to replace the conflict of unrequited(?) love with another conflict funny enough to move an episodic story forward for an infinite number of seasons.

so yeah, there probably is a mandate/rule (in the show bible or something) to prevent TTG robstar from becoming "official"

(also if you dont find the idea of TTG robstar being unrequited funny, then tbh i feel like TTG's kind of humor and even the original concept of TTG just isnt for u... it's not the 2003 cartoon v2, it's a parody and always was. by this point i feel like it (TTG's parody elements at least) are such a specific kind of humor that 89% of people won't enjoy it, and thats fine)

anyway there's also how TTG had more sincerity in season 1 when it was more like a really weird sitcom, where the titans' relationships (while still subversions of the 2003 cartoon) were mostly genuine bonds even if they acted like lobotomy patients sometimes. the comedy had limits and the characters had empathy. so if TTG robstar would ever have a chance at becoming anything near canon, it would have been back in s1, though still unlikely

but later seasons of TTG can be very mean spirited, overly cynical and deconstructive, depending on who is writing the episode (assuming the episode is even character focused at all, which became less common over time). the show went from a parody of the 2003 cartoon to a parody of everything besides the 2003 cartoon lol. sometimes i feel like post season 1 some of TTGs writers took the mob hate to heart and let negativity poison the original sitcom premise before slowly selling out

so i dont think genuine relationships between the TTG titans can happen anymore, some of the writers hate the characters enough to have broken up their friendships (someone even messed with cyborg & BB once omg), let alone the romantic relationships. except maybe that doesn't matter either because TTG resets most of its continuity every episode?? ironically TTG could still turn the ship around in terms of the series' tone and direction, though i doubt they will if the current direction makes more money

weirdly enough whenever TTG shits out another AU thing, like the big 2018 movie or the night begins to shine universe, suddenly theres unironic robstar shipping/hints in it that are soooooooo cute. besides being shipper bait this is probably because those TTG AUs feel removed from the main TTG series, so their stories feel more free like they're allowed to be sincere again, like the main show's original season 1.

unless the romance is supposed to be a joke, it needs sincerity in order to work. and its impossible to write sincerely when youre a contractual writer buried under 300 layers of irony and cynicism who doesn't even like the show youre writing for... and thats what i feel happened to the main TTG show ,compared to some of its AU stuff

tl;dr i just cope and pretend like TTG is still the goofy sitcom it used to be, partially coz season 1 TTG robstar had the (admittedly very low) potential to be real, and even if it didnt happen at least their friendship was consistently sincere. and very cute

This is based in Rebirth/Infinite Frontier but it overlaps with other eras cause yk. Comics. Where possible I tried to put the original comic/arc instead of the Rebirth comic where it was referenced or shown in a flashback, since most of the Rebirth timeline prior to like Year 16-17 is shown via flashbacks or references. That would definitely be infinitely cooler than my idea! Gothamverse is the beautiful result of me playing arkham knight while waiting for an mcr livestream to start up and thinking ‘damn bitches from jersey are fucking insane! ....wait a minute’

It’s basically a silly little idea I came up last March with where all the mcr guys are from Gotham and what their villain origin stories would be etc. I followed the main Batman villain archetypes: extremist, anti-hero, camp, and serial killer, and I had a fucking blast! It’s very silly and just something I did for fun. I guess I can go a lil bit into it here.

full disclosure, I am psychotic and disabled and I do not believe in the vilification of mental illness or disability in media, all of these characters will eventually get the help they need. Batman at its core is about a mentally ill man helping others who have been failed by society and I will never forgive dc for making him into an overpowered, glorified cop.

Frank’s character (Francis ‘Frankie’ Stein) is the extremist (duh). He’s the son of a mafia boss who is steadily ruining their town with crime and Frankie just kinda snaps and kills him to take his place as the head of the family and try to undo some of the damage done. He has great intentions, he’s just very unyielding and kind of insane 💕 his moniker is Frankenstein! And his whole schtick is that he’s very hard (if not impossible) to kill. He’s also chronically ill and Jewish, these are not important to his character but they are important to me !

Mikey’s character (Micheal Way) is the serial killer. He’s a ‘sociopath’ (theres nothing actually wrong with him, people just suck and made him feel lesser and out of place :/) trying to fit in with everyday society but he always feels like something is missing and becomes a neuroscientist to try to find what exactly it is. He invents a machine (the empathsizer) that allows him to experience other people’s memories and emotions as though they are his own. From there he accidentally gets addicted to the chemical responses his brain has to doing that. And keeps doing it. Even after the testing phase is no longer accepting applicants. It gets worse after he experiences someone’s near death experience and starts chasing the high it gave him. Idk what his moniker is? It’s sandman for right now but that’s honestly so boring and uninspired.

Ray’s character (Raymond Ortiz) is camp but very loosely. He’s an engineer by day and a rockstar by night! He’s really only an engineer to save up enough money to pursue music full time but it’s hard because he doesn’t get paid that much. Winter hits and with it, cuts to his hours! So he’s forced to choose between rent and electricity. When he gets really sick as a result, he can’t afford a doctor. And when he wakes up with his hearing gone as a result, theres nothing he can really do but spiral into a depression. Until he realizes he’s a literal biological engineer. If he can’t fix his problem he can at the very least prevent it from happening to someone else! Research does cost money, so it’s very fortunate that Gotham has so many banks. His moniker is Dr. Megahurtz! His weapon of choice is his guitar, which has been retrofitted with sonic emitters to amplify and weaponize the hertz. Not enough to hurt, but enough to incapacitate.

Gerard’s character (Jules Moss) is the anti hero! She’s (yes I made Gerard’s character a trans girl, they took too long to make a trans character so I did it for them) has the same backstory as Gerard actually! On her way home from work she witnesses a terrorist attack, but instead of starting a band she decides to fight crime instead. She does so bad. Literally her first night out patrolling she gets killed by some priest who’s been driven insane by what he claims is an angel that’s ‘chosen him to impart gods will’ but it’s just a fallen star looking for a vessel to possess and the first guy it came across wasn’t dead lol. The star turns into a sword of pure light and that’s what Jules gets stabbed with, but also it fuses itself to her dna so she wakes up a few days later, schrödingers girl, with some scary new abilities and a voice in her head that definitely wasn’t there before. Her whole arc is her trying to find the guy that killed her and get revenge. Her moniker is stigmata! Because when she gets impaled it also goes through the palms of her hands and the wounds don’t heal.

but yeah that’s the bare bones of it all! I’m planning on making this into a comic series but the script is still being written at the moment! Thank you for letting me ramble about it 💕🥰

Infinite and Dr. Starline designs in my Sonic Boom AU

In this AU,

Infinite, before he was the gang leader of The Jackal Squad, used to work for G.U.N. He was often responsible for suspect interrogation, but his methods of interrogating the suspects were... wildly unethical (torture). Years ago, when the general public found out about this, G.U.N fired him to save their own face. Mind you, G.U.N knew the entire time and completely turned a blind eye to Infinite's actions until the moment they fired him. He was to be charged, but disappeared before G.U.N was able to apprehend him. Soon, the public forgot, and Infinite became the leader of the Jackal Squad for years soon after.

The Jackal Squad was a notorious gang who would target weak villages to rob and kill. They showed no mercy to anyone who crossed their paths. As a result, a hefty bounty had been placed on their heads. They were untouchable for years and Infinite gained the fearsome title of "Ultimate Mercenary"

That was until Shadow the Hedgehog sought after the bounty for the Jackal Squad. Ending with every member of the gang dead... except for Infinite. He was left with a giant scar from Shadow's rocket boots directly striking him in the face.

Thouroughly humiliated, Infinite vowed to seek revenge against the Ultimate Lifeform... and make him suffer.

He gained his mask, which has a shard embedded of the shattered Phantom Ruby, from Dr. Starline, who ran into him while in his chase for the Shattered Crystals.

.....

Dr. Starline has been in search of the missing fragments of the Phantom Ruby and Master Emerald (the Shattered Crystals) to harness the secrets of their powers and perhaps even the deities known as Solaris... for his own purposes.

In his search for The Shattered Crystals and research of the deities the Ancients revered so highly, it has lead him to discovering lost documents going over 50 years back about the Eclipse Projects: Project Shadow and Project Light, with scientists Dr. Gerald Robotnik and Dr. Christopher (Chris) Thorndyke being the leads for these projects.

The Eclipse Projects were the closest thing to living gods the ARK Facility were able to achieve, with both documented with having powers and appearance that are incredibly similar to the deities that make up Solaris: Mephiles and Iblis.

While the documents date over 50 years ago, Starline has no doubt that the Eclipse Projects are still alive to this day... and he'll be damned if he doesn't find them. While Project Shadow is essentially the "perfect being", Starline is a little bit more interested in seeking out Project Light (Ver. 17)... see what more he can get from having it in his hands and if he could make it more perfect than the "perfect being".

Dr. Starline runs into Infinite, who is already on his quest to seek revenge on Shadow the Hedgehog. His descriptions of Shadow seamlessly matches up with the description on the old documents Dr. Starline found. Starline figures that if they go after Shadow, then soon he'll find Light.

With that in mind, Dr. Starline gifts Infinite a mask with a shard of the Phantom Ruby embedded into it (With Dr. Starline himself having a piece of the Master Emerald embedded in his own glove) with the promise that he'll help him on his search for the Eclipse Projects in exchange for letting him finally getting his revenge on Shadow.

For now, their goals align and who better to help him than the "Ultimate Mercenary" himself?

A depressingly relevant figure from American history that isn’t often spoken about is one Anthony Comstock (1844 to 1915), an anti-vice activist, United States Postal Inspector, and secretary of the New York Society for the Suppression of Vice (NYSSV), who was dedicated to “upholding Christian morality”.

“Upholding Christian morality“, in this case, was technically the suppression and erasure of materials that he deemed to be obscene and pornographic... But due to his BROAD definition of what “obscene and pornographic“ meant, his tactics and targets covered a far broader group of people and subjects than you’d expect.

Indeed, while he originally targeted publishers and sellers of “smut“ in New York City, he quickly used his position to begin targeting people attempting to distribute information on contraception, reproductive health, women’s suffrage, “obscene” art (such as the work of DH Lawrence as well as art history books), and discussions about sex pretty much in general.

His pursuit of those he deemed to be distributing vice is “credited” with massively holding back the birth control movement in the United States, in addition to 4000 arrests, the destruction of literal 150 TONS of confiscated material, and the suicides of 19 people in his “fight for the young”. This last fact Comstock was disgustingly proud of, as himself to be a “weeder in God’s garden“ in respect to his work and would boast about having driven those people to kill themselves in prison.

One of those people, Ida Craddock, a sex therapist whom Comstock repeated targeted, once said in 1902,

“... if the reading of impure books and the gazing upon impure pictures does debauch and corrupt and pervert the mind (and we know that it does), when we reflect that Anthony Comstock has himself read perhaps more obscene books, and has gazed upon perhaps more lewd pictures than has any other one man in the United States, what are we to think of the probable state of Mr Comstock's imagination today upon sexual matters?”

In respect for his legacy, the Comstock Act of 1873 (which prohibited the distribution of obscene materials by post) was nicknamed after him and remained in force until the 1970s, where its use to punish people for distributing information on contraception, at least, was lessened.

Distressingly, Comstock’s determination and tactics (such as his posing as a patient in order to trick doctors and abortion providers into providing services via mail so he could arrest them, he did this multiple times but one time an enraged doctor did beat the crap out of him before the police could get the cuffs on), proved to be an inspiration for a young law student by the name of J. Edgar Hoover, who would emulate methods when he was appointed director of the FBI some years later.

The character of Zachary Comstock, the religious fundamentalist, ultra-nationalist villain in the game Bioshock Infinite is also named after the man. As was the Comstock Syringe, a medical douche invented by Dr. Sara Blakeslee Chase, who named it after Comstock in retaliation for him having her repeatedly arrested (this actually made things worse).

I need to learn to love how I look post-shower. Fucking rained-on St. Bernard. (That's a Drumstick, which I got from my neighbor's freezer. I'm watching her cat this week while she's on vacation, and she said I could have a few.) I'd never been to a show at a college campus before. It was a 4,000 seat venue and it was almost completely full. And the crowd was exactly what you'd expect at that kind of show: the Venn diagram meeting place between anime nerds, stoners and metal nerds. We got there for opener Jason Richardson, a guy who did shred instrumentals with programmed blastbeats. Every song was indistinguishable from the other. He went on for too long. Totally admit going in that I only knew 5 or 6 Babymetal songs, but the ones I knew I more or less liked. I'm not a person who sees them as a novelty act, either, like "oh isn't that interesting, these Japanese pop-idol singers are fronting this riff-heavy metal band." The songs and performances speak for themselves, honestly, and the enthusiasm and energy are absolutely there. They choreograph the shit out of it, and they take it seriously, and yet...it's objectively very silly, and I like that. There's a video vignette at the start about how the infinite universe needs more love and free will and heavy metal in it, and these people want to bring it to us. There's footage of ruins, the desert, the world as seen from space, the Ouroboros, animals chasing one another. It dissolves into this vague "the universe at play, the cosmic ballet" sort of thing, and I take solace in the fact that metal never lets go of that imagery, ever. It shouldn't. Pretend metal is the music of the universe loving and strangling itself, always, because it really is, and I always wanna lose myself in that mess. They didn't do "KARATE," my favorite song of theirs. But they were giving 100% of themselves, and I admire commitment, even if I only knew 5 or 6 songs. Dethklok are currently Brendon Small, a tiny woman in spandex whose name I missed (I think it was Nili?), a bass player, and drumming legend "Atomic Clock" Gene Hoglan. And they are...listen, I've been going to metal shows since 1997, since my freshman year of high school. I've seen Cannibal Corpse, Opeth, Sepultura, Between the Buried and Me, Megadeth, Mastodon, Gojira, Slayer...these are maybe the tightest metal band I have ever seen play. And I think that has everything to do with the fact that they have to play to match the visuals on a giant screen behind them, and it was millisecond-precise, airtight. They're basically playing note-perfect live versions of every Dethklok music video you've ever seen, in real time. You'd need Gene Hoglan for that. FaceBones addressed us twice on the monitor, reminding us to stop being such dickfaces for not showering when going to shows and that we're all friends because we smoke weed. Smalls also took the time to address us as every character he voices on the show. He could do Pickles and Skwisgar, but his Nathan suffered because he had just sung 7 songs beforehand. Not blaming him for that! This is probably the only show I'd ever been to where I knew the words to EVERY song, too, which is weird to think about. Like, even when I saw bands I loved like Motorhead or Gwar, there's always a song I don't know, or a deep cut they do that I'm not familiar with. I knew all the Dethklok stuff.

So much fun. Good to be among the enthusiastic metal dorks, universally the best and most accepting crowds on Earth. Did a shirt count, and other than the two bands performing, the most represented band that I saw, weirdly, was Megadeth. Shout-out to the girl dressed as Dr. Rockso. People being let out to get back to their cars looked like the opening to Gravity's Rainbow. On our way back to the car, I overhear this conversation: Guy behind me: "Those visuals on those two songs were from the movie that just came out." Other guy: "Oh, there's a movie? Where can I watch it?" Me, turning around: "KIMCARTOON DOT ELL-EYE!" GBM: "Well, I'd like to pay them to watch it, yeah?" Me: "Oh, well, in that case, you can rent it on iTunes." Other guy: "Oh, well, fuck that, I'm not going through all of that." Me: "Y'all can't have it both ways, dudes!" An incredibly fun and lovely evening. Glad I did it, glad I had good company for it. I'd do it again.

I've just seen the new episode of Star Trek: Discovery, Jinaal.

A lot of this episode was just middle book syndrome. There was nothing particularly offensive about it, but there's not a lot there to comment on in terms of its plot without having seen the rest of the season.

I realise this is going to be a bit of an unpopular opinion on Tumblr, but I think this is a good example of why heavily serialised shows like this should be released a season at a time. There's a lot of things that Netflix does badly, but releasing an entire season at a time is one thing it does right. I feel like if you're going to make a season basically be like a movie in ten parts, then you should let an audience watch it like that instead of forcing them to wait a week for each new episode like it's traditional television.

Captain--sorry, Commander now; he's been demoted--Rayner was interesting in this episode. I think they missed an opportunity to showcase hard cultural differences in preferred command style, though.

This episode leaned hard into a very human binary of either you're a commanding officer who maintains a professional distance from the crew or you present yourself as a captain of the people, and which you go with basically boils down to personal preference. This divide is fine for a human first officer because there are people who do prefer one or the other.

I'm not sure if this would necessarily apply to Rayner, though. He's a Kellerun, and even though he is trying to adapt to being among a mostly human crew, there could be deep-rooted cultural reasons for why he prefers being a hardass with a professional distance from those under his command. This would have been a good opportunity for Discovery to show its crew adapting to some new alien ways. Instead, they've decided to go the route of presenting this as an issue where he's the one who has to further assimilate.

This is obviously meant to be an ongoing character arc for the season, so maybe there's going to be some follow-up where it turns out it's fine for him to be this way. I'm not entirely convinced that's going to happen, but I'm hoping it does. I think this would be a good chance for there to be a slightly alien command style shown in Discovery.

The one thing I think this episode did well was during the scenes where Burnham, Booker, and Bix (temporarily inhabiting Dr. Culber's body) were going through the canyons on Trill. When it was mentioned these canyons were a hunting ground for the local predators, I thought this was going to be a poorly done, filler-y chase sequence where they're running around trying to get the next piece of the map as they avoid the predators.

There was an element of this to it, but I think they were ultimately successful in subverting it to make it so the predators were just protecting their eggs. But the fact that this was the part of the episode where the idea of infinite diversity in infinite combinations was applied makes it even stranger that the episode chose not to apply it when Rayner is concerned. If these predators down in the canyons on Trill can be recognised to be acting in an understandable if slightly alien way, then Rayner should as well.

Yes, I know Rayner is an asshole, but he's going to be my blorbo for the season. I'll probably have more to say about him as the season progresses.

Omg I wanna ask soooo many questions but I’m so bad at like thinking of them lol😭 Ummmmm idk what’s like the basics of their story, how’d they meet, when’d they start being besties etc etc.😳😳😳😳

Okay, so when or if I ever finish When the Day Met the Night, the next fic in that series is going to be my Werehog fic (there's still no name for it. 😔). TL;DR: Eggman tries to turn Sonic, Shadow, and Silver into Werehogs and enslave them, but he lost control of them (Shadow's half alien DNA led to an... Interesting reaction to the transformation), and they escape out into the world. The Restoration is trying to capture them and turn them back... But it's been rough going. (GUN wants to just shoot the Werehogs and be done with them, they don't even realize they have three Werehogs on their hands until Silver's inside Restoration HQ... it's a mess)

They attempt to lure Shadow into an ambush so they can capture him, which goes SO POORLY you can't even begin to imagine. Pretty much all the power characters left that plan with at least one broken bone... But Infinite rolls up to the party last second and scares off Shadow with the Phantom Ruby's reality altering powers (The gem's been yoinked out of his chest way earlier, also long story. But he still has it and uses it.)

Infinite's sudden appearance startles everyone, because UHHH... Didn't Shadow say the guy got absorbed into the Phantom Ruby and killed after Forces? How is he still alive? (Infinite: ...Shadow told everyone that I got VORED BY A ROCK???)

The Restoration takes Infinite into custody, and they try to bargain with him for further help wrangling the Werehogs. While Infinite would want to help Shadow (a dumb SparkNotes version of @bitter-sweet-coffee 's Follow You happened behind the scenes in my series, we learn), he doesn't give a shit either way what happens to Sonic (remember, they don't know about Silver yet, but he probably wouldn't have been invested in him either.) Plus, what guarantee does he have that they're not going to chase him down and arrest him after this is over?

It's Jewel that offers getting Infinite pardoned for his war crimes in exchange for him helping wrangle the Werehogs, which he very much likes the idea of. Infinite had been hiding out in a penthouse Shadow owns in Spagonia since Forces... And to say he's got a bad case of cabin fever by now would be an understatement. (It's been six years from games/comics canon to my fics, so... He's been in a penthouse by himself/with Shadow when he swings by for a long ass time. 😬)

Anyway, Werehogs are wrangled and turned back, Infinite's been pardoned like promised, and he decides he wants to stick around Restoration HQ... Get to know his new BFF Jewel better~

Jewel's... Not on board with this idea at first. On a good day Infinite mildly irritates her, on a bad day she's ranting to a sympathetic (and VERY PATIENT, poor guy) Bark about how much she can't fucking stand Infinite. He has his uses though. He's been giving her some tips on how to stand up to people that actually work, for example.

She turns around on Infinite during the fic I call my "lesbian pirates fic". The Sol Emeralds fling all the girls into the Sol Dimension because Blaze needs a pirate crew... And Infinite was one of the ones that got yoinked. (Assigned Girl by Klik Klak Shiny Rocks... LOL) Turns out Jewel and Infinite needed to be stuck on a boat together to work out their friendship. Jewel feels bad for Infinite when he tells his sob stories, and he reveals that he does admire Jewel... she just needs a bit more confidence and bad bitch energy, and he thinks he can teach her that.

Infinite really solidifies himself as her friend during Miserably Loving You, when Bark's hag mother Ursa attempts to steamroll his and Jewel's wedding plans. He teams up with Amy and Lanolin to throw Jewel a nice bridal shower to cheer her up, and when they need to go to North Island to stop Ursa from getting the island destroyed by her own idiocy, Infinite's the first one to join Jewel's team.

Skipping WAY ahead into the future, Jewel discovered babies are Finn's off switch. Need him to shut up for a while? Shove your baby into his hands and walk away. She takes FULL advantage of this while Patience and Marzipan are small. 😂

Out of the blue, my brain decided to try and remember an animated quick time event PC game I played back in the 90's. I remembered it was about a computer repair guy who got trapped in a haunted castle run by a mad scientist. And I remember there was a vampire who ran a beauty salon in it as well. After much searching I finally found it! Braindead 13.

This is the exact jewel case cover i remember. Oh man, the hours I spent trying to beat this game! All the events are QuickTime but there is no explaining what button you actually have to push. It's trial and error and you have to remember everything in the correct sequence at the correct time or else you die! Luckily the main character Lance has infinite lives.

Hello Lance! This cutie patootie even has different scenes depicting him coming back from the dead depending on the manner in which he died. And man did he have a lot of different ways to die!

You start out on a repair call for Dr Nero Neurosis, albeit unknowingly. When you call him an average villain, he looses his mind (lol) and sends his minion after you.

You are CONSTANTLY chased by henchman Fritz. He is your #1 cause of death and will often kill you if you hesitate too long choosing a direction to go.

My fave was death via Vivi.

She was the southern belle vampire owner of a funeral salon and so darn charming despite trying to messily kill you ! (That is Lance's hat shoved in his mouth, by the way)

I think my least fave was the marionette in the conservatory. The music there was just really creepy.

Anyway, it popped into my head and I was sadly let down by the lack of fan community (that I could find) online. Then again, it was a minor game with no sequel released back in the mid 90's, so I guess it makes sense. Any fans out there remember this game?? It had such fun, expressive and flowy animations. ❤️

Wrote a small blurb hurt/comfort for my Guardians and im crying over them q-q

tl;dr Feros-8 stayed on Io at the end of Arrivals and got eaten by the Darkness and later resurfaced on Europa and his Ghost, Mia, took a long time to recover from it. Meanwhile, Schala-2 was the only one who asked friends and the Vanguard to let him go, let him face his fear and his trauma instead of continuing to spiral until he 'fell'. (They are a fireteam/poly partners.)

Feros is still scrubbing dust from between the segments of his toes. An entire week after they came back from the Spire and he still hasn't managed to clean all his crevices, much less their weapons.

He broods over a scout rifle, its varnished wood and polished synth brass covered in dust and all the grime that got picked up by radiolaria splashes all along its length.

He doesn't even hear Schala come in.

Only notices they're there when their thin hands come between the barrel he's polishing and his face.

He blinks at her and puts it all down.

She lingers, hands awkwardly hovering in front of them like they haven't decided what to say, if to even say it.

It's a rare time that he sees her hesitate. 

Apprehension gathers in his muscles as he watches her hands twitch, abandoned motion after abandoned motion. Then her throat lights catch his eye, just for their sudden appearance.

But not even a trace of her raspy voice filters through.

He wipes his hands and reaches for their hands, slowly. Giving ample time to pull back, not let him cut off their 'voice' even for the sake of comfort.

But they don't move, and he pulls them gently around to sit on the couch with him, shoving the low table with his supplies to the side.

He rubs careful circles over her palms and her head slowly hangs. Feros' jaw twists, sits awkwardly against his upper lip. He hates not knowing what to do. 

They sit, knee to knee, in the heady light of noon. The silence isn't a stranger to them, Schala almost never speaks and Feros is more inclined to doing than telling.

Between the two of them, it's a miracle they communicate.

He bites down a bitter chuckle on how all his previous relationships and fireteams fell apart, if they didn't die first, from that same lack, but here seems to work just fine. For all that all of those people were infinitely more talkative than both of them combined. 

He entertains the idea that Schala probably has lived through every single of their interactions over an impossible amount of lives spent together, she might as well know his every thought, so he might as well have no need to speak ever again, and immediately scraps the thought.

'I am human, I can't save everyone. I have to accept that; my mistakes.'

She said that, when he'd told her that chasing after Saint-14 in the Infinite Forest was suicide. And then she chased after him anyway. They did it; Schala and Osiris. But she had just as readily accepted that, this time, they might fail.

He sighs, keeps rubbing soothing circles into their palms and realigns his jaw to sit properly.

"I'm sorry."

It's so quiet, he nearly misses it. Whispered low enough the slight ruckus of the nearest street spilling in from the open window almost covers it.

He leans closer, trying to get a clear look at their downcast face, "What for?"

They pull their hands away, the motions as they form words careful, Not being here

Feros tilts his head at that, "What?"

They repeat the words, forcefully, Not being here

"Where, firefly?"

And there's anger and grief at the choked voice they let out, "When the Darkness came. I let you go."

And it feels like the air was knocked out of him.

He reaches awkwardly to their hands, but they pull back, going through more words, I should have stayed, I should have helped but I just abandoned you, like you didn't matter or I didn't care but that's not true I worry and I care and I love you more than this life will let me and I can't forgive my mistakes, not when it hurt you and hurt Mia and-

And his chest feels constricted, the air cut off, like a fist was shoved through his heart and he can no longer breathe. She speaks like she condemned him, when it was his choice to take the dive.

His hands shake as he slips them over their cheeks, and their hands still.

It had been like dreaming. Letting the cool dark wash over him.

It had him confront so many of his failings. Pahanin, Mare Imbrium, the Gap, letting down Ana, Tevis, Andal, Cayde-

Eris, at least, he knew lived and scorned the fatalism he'd plunged himself in, as he'd gone on to tear down the Crimson Keep and burn clean the Moon's depths.

But he would have never lived through life as it has become now, with Darkness curling fingers in Guardians if he hadn't let the ghosts of his regrets haunt him. If he hadn't let himself go through the Dark like crossing a river.

He knows, Shin would have planted a blazing bullet between his eyes ages ago, if the man had the balls to show his face again, after all the seeds he planted that the Darkness now sows.

But it had been his choice and he would have fought anyone that would have tried to stop him, "I'm not sorry. I would do it again, Schala, again and again and you can't say you let me go. You can't go down that way, please."

And she looks at him like she would break down from the weight of his words alone.

He crushes them to his chest, still missing a breath he can't catch and wanting for the life of him to just take this pain away from them.

"You didn't abandon me, you didn't, I swear to you and the Light and the Dark, you didn't."

They shake against him, small fist weakly grasping at his shirt and he just holds tighter. 

She hiccups and pushes back until she can move her hands between them he looks helplessly as the torrent continues unabated. Hands moving jerkily and sloppy as their shoulders tremble, And I always let you go, every time I let you slip away and you don't always come back, you don't, and it's my fault for not holding on for not saying anything 

"And someone will always say, you did wrong. That it's not how fireteams work and it's not how partners work but that's not true."

And he wills her into understanding, "You have to push sometimes, you have to let others fall, let them fail and yes, it's not your fault, but they need it, to try."

His fingers tighten on their shoulders, "You can't save me every time."

And then they start crying in earnest, crumbling in his arms like a house of cards.

There's no tears that exos truly shed. But the laboured breathing, the choked keening, all the motions and exertions hit the body just as hard. Even down to the lightheadedness from lack of oxygen. 

Feros shushes them, rubbing his hand down their back, and up again. Rocks them gently. He knows that feeling. Tearing you apart from the inside like an infestation. And you have to cut it out.

"Shh, I'm here, I'm always here somehow aren't I? Too stubborn to stay away. Shhh, it's okay. I love, you know that? You always try so hard, I love that about you. Shhh."

It takes time for their sobs to die down. For the trembling to cease. And Feros whispers softly and rubs down their back until they both petter into silence again.

His fingers trail up to her tense neck, pushing carefully into the synthcord muscle and smoothing it out.

He stills when they curl up against him instead of just just collapsing, fitting their head to the crook of his neck. And he holds them, until the sun starts dipping from its zenith and the breeze coming in from the open windows changes direction.

Until his back hurts and his shoulders ache.

He leans to whisper softly in their earwing, "I'll move us to the bed ok?" and waits to feel the nod against his neck to hook his arms under her.

Sheis small, he always forgets.

Small and slight and doesn't hesitate to headbutt people to death in the Crucible, the same way she doesn't hesitate to look down a god and grind them beneath her boot.

Larger than life. More than a single life, especially when she looks at you and sees all you ever were and could be, good and bad. All the times he succumbed to the Dark instead to walking out like he took a dip in the ocean, when entire planets didn't survive it.

And she barely takes up room on the bed as he tucks the covers around them both.

"I'm sorry," he whispers into the sheets. "I forgive you," he whispers against their knuckles as he presses his mouth to them. "Thank you," he whispers when they finally manage to look him in the eye.

Junpei hearing about Sigma being a terrible parent to K feels like an avenue that isn't explored a lot, your thoughts? Also his thoughts on hearing what Akane told K about him?

Oh so I've kinda explored this from the other perspective before! of Quark's and Kyle's hypothetical thoughts on each other's situations. So I def think it's interesting. I think beyond despising Dr. Klim for the ambidex game, he'd also hold a lot of resentment upon finding out about his neglectful parenting. On earth, there is so so little you can give your kid. He had to have Quark work when they should have been in kindergarten. All you can really give to your child is your love and support. So for someone to live on the moon, with their comparatively infinite resources. With their three meals a day. Without having materiel hardship. To neglect your child is infuriating. So many parents of earth CANT provide their child for their emotional needs because of their materiel conditions. Quark even believed Tenmyouji didn't love them at points. So to 'choose' to not be there for your child emotionally, he'd despise those people even more so than he would have before the apocalypse, before finding Quark. As for your second one, I think it rolls into realizing that. He never knew Akane. If it's her perspective that all of this is to 'repay the favor' of saving her life, to give ANOTHER them a chance together? It makes him realize he has to let go. Chasing her got himself hurt again, and it got Quark hurt. And she thought that beyond saving the world, it would also be a personal good. So I think at least initially, he couldn't accept that. He doesn't hate her for it, he could never hate her. But it helps him realize he needs to let go of his idolized image of her. Because this is not the Akane Kurashiki he knew. That he THOUGHT he knew

Sonic Frontiers impressions

Sonic Frontiers. The big new Sonic game that has everyone talking about it but for the wrong reasons. So I wanted to talk about this game like I did with Sonic Forces and go into detail here, so bear with me on this.

We have gotten two video game trailers and two gameplay videos that show exploration and his basic moveset. And there are puzzles and collectibles and the combat focus video shows off more moves, combat, fights, and so on.

Before I begin, I want to say this is all speculation, assuming what may or may not be, talking about the good, bad, and other things.

Sonic Frontiers - Announce Trailer

In this Trailer, Sonic is running from something chasing him underground and in the air. There are 3 rockets or projectiles that get launched after him. At first, I thought these were modified G.U.N robots with part of a phantom ruby. And we also hear what sounds to be Tails telling Sonic to come to his voice, which allows him to dodge the projectiles.

I noticed when the projectiles blew up, they created this purple-like blast that sound like the phantom ruby which makes me wonder if this game takes place after Sonic Forces. I know Infinite is not dead and after defeating Dr. Robotnik, he is nowhere to be seen with the Phantom Ruby, which implies the phantom ruby might be damaged but can still be used.

I’m getting too far ahead of myself.

After dodging the blast, Sonic has this new boost before running to a cliff to see there are no towns or cities that Sonic knows of. He is in a new location by himself and alone with hostile creatures and monsters.

Then we get a shot of locations that give me more of a Breath of the Wild / Phantasy Star Online 2: New Genesis vibe and the trailer ends the shot with Sonic coming face with a giant robot and a faint voice which I can assume Amy Rose says "let's do this"

This makes me wonder if Sonic hearing faint voices at key moments implies something truly horrible went wrong this time, and maybe Sonic lost more than his home. His friends may be in real danger.

There is a lot for me to wonder about here. Is the phantom ruby going to play a key role? Is Sonic Frontiers a sequel to Sonic forces? Did something happen to Sonic’s friends? What are these creatures and monsters, and were they made by someone?

The music is somewhat upbeat but has a serious tone to it.

This trailer shows a little of everything. Sonic combat, exploration, monsters.

Sonic has a new move akin to nights. When you paraloop an enemy /or enemies, you will create a gust of wind that will send them high into the air (If they are small enemies), stunning them and leaving them wide open for attacks. It’s “Sonic wind” from Sonic heroes but tweaked a bit.

Sonic has a stronger homing attack that zigzag to the enemy at high speed, and the other move is Sonic wind, creating a ring-like gust of wind that does an area of effect damage (AOE) or does damage over time (DoT)

Sonic can punch, kick and do combos, this trailer does not show off much of his combat skills as the clips with combat are fast and done. Not much to make out here or note.

This is one of the big videos on the game and there is a lot to note besides the pop-in with objects and draw distant being bad.

I have speculation about a good number of items in this video, and given this game was played by someone from IGN. It will be hard to say if sonic is stiff to control or not.

Watching the few seconds after the intro, it is clear to say this game is using a modified version of the hedgehog engine that was used in Sonic forces but that's up to speculation and if this is the case, it will be interesting to see the Sonic Forces engine get reworked into an open world sonic game

Sonic can punch while on the ground but there is not enough info to make it clear if there is an advanced combat system where you can combo together or a one, two punch/kick. Unless they will take moves from Super Smash Brothers and give that move set to Sonic, as it would be more fitting?

Around the min mark, there is a pink heart object that is seen near boxes. I remember hearing someone saying this could be for Chao, and while that could be a good speculation, it is clear that sega has no interest in returning the Chao gardens.

Upon breaking these boxes, blue diamonds pop out before going into a hidden counter which implies this is a way to gain/refill the meter for boosting and other combat actions. It could also be exp to level up a set of unique skills or could be a different form of currency for special shops

And not too far up this tower are four purple coins, and I assume these will be used for upgrading gear or buying special gear to help you progress. There is not much to go off here but who knows. It could be like smash, find ten purple coins and upgrade a skill’s potency but the cost will increase for each level up and what skill/or passive.

Level 1 = 10

Level 2 = 15

Level 3 = 40

The tower has a rail and there is rail grinding but I will come back to this one later on. And that is something to bring up later.

So far, Sonic can run up walls with a blue texture or climb up them. He can climb and go into a run while on the walls as well. Could make for a good level design, if done right.

Sonic boost is no longer a hold to boost but a tap to gain a bit of speed which means boosting for attack probably won’t be a thing unless you get an upgrade or a passive upgrade. I have to assume that won’t be the case here but I could be wrong.

Sonic seems to control fairly well from first impressions alone. There are no tank-like controls that Generations and forces had. Going on a mini tangent here. In Sonic Generations, Sonic Forces, and maybe even Sonic Unleashed and Sonic Colours? Sonic, Modern Sonic had this tank when moving from a standstill. If you wanted to move left or right, Sonic would have a lot of weight behind him moving around.

And here in Sonic Frontiers, at least from watching the video. Sonic doesn’t seem to have this stiff movement but again, this is going off impressions here and maybe Sonic has stiff movement.

Sonic can wall run at will and it is a bit buggy. But the idea of sonic running against mountain sides or walls with being a scripted automated section is great. Given some games have scripted automated scenes that takes control away from the player.

And in this video, they show off “puzzles” Granted, the first puzzle is already done. Not much of a puzzle there but the thing to note is Sonic has something on his hand that can grab this statue and turns it at will. It is unclear if this thing will have combat uses or will be subject to solving certain puzzles only.

Puzzle two is putting out flames. There is a floor tile puzzle where you must walk on each lit tile without jumping /or backtracking on any tiles

I mentioned a pink heart object and there is a red heart object and a blue fruit object. It is massive speculation time here.

As mentioned before, I said someone brought up that these things would be for Chao-like creatures. Let's assume this is true, then Pink would be increased to Chao's lifespan, red would boost a chao's attack power, and blue would raise their stamina levels.

But given this is the latest hedgehog engine that Sonic Forces used but heavily modified into a completely different engine, so to speak. I have to assume that Chao is not on their radar but I could be wrong, and I would love to be wrong and proven wrong by sega.

I think the real uses for these fruits/hearts go as follows.

Red hearts will either be a hp/ring increase, attack up, or a recover hp/rings

Pink Hearts will be a speed up / defense up or stamina up

The blue fruit might be for your boost to increase it or increase the number of actions

I would assume you need to have four or ten of one type to get the effect but this is all speculation and I might not even be close, lmao. But the ideas of what they could do are interesting.

At the end of this video, Sonic is running on a wheel to power it up while being by Chao like creatures and it is unsure if they are going to have a Chao like system but the thought is there It could be nothing more than some creatures that sound like Chao and that's all. It is interesting after all.

Sonic Frontiers: Combat Gameplay | IGN First

So, as I write this blog post, this is the last video showing off anything from Sonic Frontiers, unless there is another video that shows off a bit more detail and content, this is it for now, and this one will be fun to talk about.

Again, I will be talking about some key points in this video and giving notes on things.

Four creatures have the main focus of the video which gave the impression these three will be the normal monsters and the last one being a boss-like monster.

So, once the trailer “starts” It begins with Sonic fighting a set of spheres that can use lighting attacks to attack or knock Sonic away. During the first fight, we see a move from Sonic's set. He can string together punches and kicks, he can dodge and sidestep for some reason.

Sonic seems to have two states, exploration and combat. Combat state, the camera will pan in and Sonic will enter a fight stance. I assume you can flee the combat if you can get far away to break enemy aggro.

The next enemy has an armored shell and can only be damaged after you paraloop or use your sonic wind move to lift the enemy armor off to open up the weak spot for attacks. In this section, we can see sonic doing a quick paraloop mid-combat. Although it knocks the enemy back, only a little bit.

The last enemy is a small dude that has blades as hands and can't attack from afar. It is a melee-based enemy. They are pretty weak, taking two hits to bring them down.

The big boss is great, it is pretty much a boss from other sonic games but in enemy bitesize and I love it. You can paraloop its tiny feet to throw it off balance to attack the sole of the feet to stun it. You can run up the hand of this boss to deal damage and it is not automated, and you have to do the work. It is a little buggy but still looks awesome.

Now I have one question.

What happens to Sonic when you die?

In other Sonic games. When you died or ran out of lives. You would be asked to continue or re-spawn to a checkpoint on death. But given the state of Sonic Frontiers, how would death be handled here? Would it go the full route that breath of the wild took where you can save anywhere but on death, you would need to load your last save /or auto-save?

Or would it be like Genshin Impact that on death, you will respawn to a nearby town or checkpoint/waypoint which would save you the trouble? But as of now, there is no way to be sure till the game comes out.

Now for the bad things that do worry me.

For the Bad things

The game has some jarring pop-ins for objects. But this can be fixed later and hoping this does not cause any fps issues.

Some of Sonic's animations feel off, incomplete. And can’t pretend that Sonic Forces didn't happen, cause it did. We all let that one happen. When Sonic Forces got leaked, some of us thought this was early footage but this was the latest build of the game.

Sonic has no momentum on grind rails or terrain which seems like you can’t play around with the physics too much

The game seems empty, and it is giving me a Phantasy star online 2: New Genesis vibe. When New Genesis first drop, the game was a lot of space unused and Sonic Frontiers feels like that off impressions alone.

It seems like automation may still be a thing in certain sections. I hope it is nowhere as bad as Sonic Forces. That game pretty much played itself and I don't want a repeat.

Sonic Frontiers is coming out in 2022 this year and I feel like we might be repeating history yet again. This can have promise but what if that potential is wasted because sega wants to hit a deadline. And this happens a lot with SEGA. And pretty much this game has a lot of work to get done before the holiday of 2022 (seven months).

I want this game to be amazing. Really, I do. But the exploration gameplay left me with worries and dread. The combat gameplay video has removed some of the worries I had but not enough where I can go “this game will be safe in Sega’s hands.”
