Hello everyone! Happy TTB anniversary !!! This is not the anniversary of posting, but rather, the day that Fin pitched the idea that became this fic back in 2021. Insane that it’s already been that long. Granted we talked about it for almost 7-8 months before we started writing with the intention of posting. 

Secondly, thank you so much to every single reader, and everyone who has ever done art or a fan work. We appreciate you and are honored everyday that something we created has inspired other people to also make things (and to play in this sandbox with us. The more the merrier!). 

This fic is a labor of love, but more than that, it always has been, and always will be, a large-scale collaboration <3

Its limbs reflect dull lamp light, pallor skin and deep set eyes. Its weight shifts like water over rocks as it crawls, ropy muscle bunching and rolling.

There’s a part of Yassen that wishes he could be so naive as to not have seen this coming—he’d known this was a possibility since they left Venice. It just seems that he’d miscalculated how likely it would be. 

Scorpia has found them.

We are so glad you asked! :) Of course you can have a preview. Here's the beginning of chapter 8.

It’s been a long time since Danny was inside a house. One actually being lived in, by living people, at least. It’s nice enough. Quaint—that’s the first word that comes to Danny’s mind, floating in from some dusty part of his mind that hasn’t had to describe anything as quaint since Sam’s grandma showed off her collectible statuettes of cats in old-timey clothes.  The floors are well-worn, aged wood peeking out from beneath sprawling rugs. There’s a draft that brings chilly air in from the badly fitted single-pane windows. The temperature has plummeted over the course of the evening; Danny is enjoying the promise of snow in the air, and the fact that the sun has already dipped below the mountains on the horizon. What’s less enjoyable is the haunting. He’d suggested hiding a tree in a forest; he’d known what that would entail.  Houses like this aren’t allowed to be secretive. They aren’t allowed to sink down into themselves, with all their echoes writhing quietly inside like maggots. They’re open wounds that don’t heal.

This chapter is going to be a bit of a love letter to haunted houses. <3

Chapter Summary: There’s a slight change of plans.

Sleeping at night in hotel beds is not getting any easier, the second day in. The muscles in his neck and shoulders twist themselves into cords that braid further down along his spine, attached to bone like spiderwebs. He presses down on something like a shudder. Flesh—chained fibers, wet organs, sluggish weight… That hasn’t been him for a long time. Every minute of being like this is a reminder. His muscles are rusty, underused. All that said, the lingering wound on his side is well on its way to fully healed, with the energy he’d gathered yesterday. The skin is less tender—less discolored, probably, if he were willing to look at it. He watches the time on the clock tick by. Gravity tugs at his skin. The mattress is soft, softer than the beds at the last two hotels they’ve stayed in.  It doesn’t help like he thought it would.

Absolutely! You know while in the chapter 7 doc to get this snippet we realized that 7 has gotten big enough we'll probably have to divide it into two chapters so 👀 SO excited to share this chapter hopefully soon!

“We will be using cover identities. As such, you will be expected to lie proficiently,” Yassen says. Danny winces. “Give some thought to your story, and how it fits in with myself and Alex as a family,” Yassen says. “Veiled truths will be easiest to remember and deliver convincingly.” “Like… what?” Danny asks. “What, um… kind of details?” “Minor things—hobbies and the like,” Yassen says. “But I am most concerned with the story of the family. You will likely only pass muster as half-brothers, which adds a layer of complexity to the story.” “Ah,” Danny says, his throat dry and scratchy. “Okay. Um…” Silence stretches between them, sticky like taffy. Half-truths about his life. His family. As if he isn’t telling enough of those already.

Some questions for you all or whoever wants to answer: Have you ever thought about side stories or spin-offs here? And what kind of writing do you enjoy most (action scenes, reveals, etc)?

Hi beachpie!! Thank you for this ask! We all had something to say! @kkachis said: 1. yes we have. mostly in the form of improbable crossovers because TTB alex and danny are the main iterations of these characters in our brains and we love making our blorbos meet each other 2. for me i like choreographing action and writing horror scenes the best @artistfingers said: i like to write silly dialogue and shenanigans and, anything revolving around lying, half-truths, concealed identities… you name it. when characters are on different pages and when the reader knows or suspects something a character doesn't… when the narrative conceals nuances of a character's understanding… i love that shit. i guess my favorite writing is very character-based and personal. with TTB i've also had a ton of fun practicing action and very literary styles too!

As for me (@ghostly-cabbage) : 1. In the main story of TTB? Not so much. Mostly because it's going to be such a monster of a fic that, honestly? Everything that we want to touch on and explore we probably will! I won't say never tho 👀. Adding onto what kkachis said, we totally also think and talk about OTHER crossovers asdfghj. For a period of time we went absolutely insane on discord with @abrielarnold about a Danny and Alex crossover with Lockwood & Co. Recently, we even ping-ponged some hilarious crack type stuff of TTB! Danny, Alex and Yassen crossover with Generator Rex. It never fails to be SO much fun. 2. My favorite stuff to write is ovbs the horror stuff but more than that, I love quiet heartfelt moments between characters. Is the scene soft and melancholic? Gentle and bitter sweet? I am THERE. I also LOVE LOVE LOVE to write altered mind states. Be it from dissociation, panic/flashbacks, drugs, doesn't matter. Anything that gives me an excuse to fuck with the literary style? I want to do it.

“Not completely,” Danny says. “The way it is for me, information can… leak through, passively. Like his name. And because I’m—a medium, he can show me things. Memories. But that’s it. Nothing else.”

Danny moves his gaze back to Yassen.

“Next time Julius shows up, he won’t touch Alex, I swear. He won’t be able to.” 

There’s tension in the air that makes it hard to swallow as Danny stares Yassen down.

It’s update time and I’m especially excited for y’all to read this one. This chapter really allowed us to flex the Something’s Wrong With Danny Fenton muscles. Shout out to my co-authors @artistfingers and @kkachis who absolutely crushed the style. Lines in this chapter would be at home in SWWDF in a heartbeat. But don’t just take my word for it: snippet below!

The ghost wavers above him—a healthy and cautious distance away from him. Despite his pathetic state, it makes his chest cool with satisfaction. 

When it speaks, its voice patters against pavement—blood, water. “What… what are you?” 

Its injuries weep, globs coming loose and hitting the floor. They don’t stay visible long before fading beyond the physical plane.

Danny barks a short and humorless laugh.

“You’re not dead, but you died.”

“Tell me something I don’t know.”

you guys got another one to read/reread alex rider bc of ttb.

i binged the show and am on the third book. the thing is i distinctly remember the end of scorpia and beginning of ark angel (alex getting shot nearly through the heart and then trying to escape something? while in recovery) but that is the only thing i remember after the first book. but it has been something like over 10 years since i read these. speaking of: i did not know there were so many books now?! and apparently anthony is still writing new ones?! though really hoping the 2000’s mmm 😐 moments will fade as the books go on… especially the fatphobia around smithers, and the low key racist stereotypes and side comments. i was questioning myself if i was just looking too far into it thinking that mrs stellenbosch was a transphobic character until the line “she looked like a man in drag” and went yep. fuck she is. now i don’t think any of this was malicious or even on purpose but rereading books you enjoyed as a kid now as an adult really reminds you how it was in the 2000s.

but the show is good and doesn’t have those problems. however, did anyone else notice it’s all the women in special operations that are concerned about alex? obviously mrs jones but i do like her character in the show. but also it was the women in wolf’s crew that spoke up about torturing alex. the other man didn’t say anything. but overall i am appreciating more diversity.

i have so much more to say about the show and the books but i should stop rambling. anyway, ttb is sooooo good and i am eagerly awaiting the next chapter and all those to come. alex rider and danny phantom is such a niche crossover but it works! and the scp stuff? absolutely perfect. you don’t happen to have links to any other scp x dp stuff do you? art or fics.

ps. idk wtf tumblr’s spacing is doing. i’m hoping it evens out when i send this ask and you don’t have to see the large, awkward, uneven gaps between paragraphs

Heheheheh welcome back to the Alex Rider brain worms!! I myself never read the books as a kid and it was totally Fin's doing pspsps'ing kkachi and I into AR (More specifically into an AR fanfic series called of Madness and Mammals, which I read all of without any canon knowledge and it was fantastic dfghjkl After that I started reading the books and then we watched the show!)

As for the 2000's moments..... yeah unfortunately there are some stuff in the early books that aren't great. Though Fin does tell me that the later books do in fact get better about that sorta thing. (i'm still not completely caught up) Some character details just feel so mean spirited and ignorant. I think it's something that was more run of the mill back then but also a symptom of a greater problem as a whole in the "spy fiction" genre. (From what I hear a lot of the Bond books and earlier movies are just so racist and sexist etc, and I think AR was meant to be a "Bond but for tween boys")

As far as the show goes, I think it does a really great job in fixing a lot of the issues the books had, both with plot, tone, and yes the diversity! I think what you pointed out about the women in the Department being sympathetic to Alex is really interesting and I hadn't realized that until you pointed it out! I think that, while Jones and Snake are more vocally sympathetic, I do think the people in the department all care about Alex in... different ways. Wolf's aside with Jones after the K-unit interrogation in Ep two I think proves that he was just as uncomfortable as Snake. I think that her speaking out and reaffirming his own feelings was just the push he needed so say "fuck our orders". There's also the fact that, even if people in the department seem concerned, just like in the books, they still never do anything to actually stop what's happening. They care, but they more or less remain complicit. Never pushing the envelope enough to endanger their own positions even if they know how wrong using a child is. Simple answer for this being that if they did there wouldn't be a show/book series so like asdfghjkl but it's fun to Think about! 👀  I'm so glad that you're enjoying TTB! It's been such a labour of love from the three of us! When we watched the AR show finally we were honestly so shocked. AT that point we'd already started panning TTB and so we were thrilled that the show was tonally so close to what were aiming for. The AR straight up dips into horror at times and its sense of atmosphere is so top notch. When we were approaching this crossover it really was the fact that Canon AR and SCP mesh well together that makes it work so well. It's very much the glue for this crossover! That and we started off characterizing TTB!Danny using a lot of my hcs for SWWDF!Danny and so pushing that even further in the horror/SCP direction was easier than trying to use a base-canon Danny. I think that trying to crossover Canon AR with Canon DP without it just being a fun crackfic would be pretty difficult. bc lets be honest they both can be so cheesy and ridiculous (affectionate) As for knowing of more dp x scp stuff, sadly I do not : (( I know awhile back there was people making a bunch of dp x scp memes, but those don't really have much plot per se. However, maybe if anyone does know they can slap them in the replies of this or I can make a new post to put out some feelers!
