I think every artist needs to experience the sheer rage of learning how wrong you were about something and exactly where you went wrong. As weird as it sounds, it's grounding and can be really awe-inspiring after you're done being pissed off. It reminds me that there is so much in this world I don't know, that I need to turn every stone, or I will feel my brain peeling itself with longing

Hey crocheters, specifically newer pattern makers, but this goes for everyone. When creating a pattern, especially for the written portion, it is in your best interest to look up the terminology and shorthand used in most patterns. I understand that terminology is different in places (see UK vs US). However if you have to start your pattern off when an abbreviation list that looks absolutely like you just grabbed the alphabet and threw it at the screen, you will hear my screaming and cursing your name no matter where you live.

#i will find you and put walnuts in your shoes #and snip every third seam on all of your clothes #crochet #pattern writing #why does A mean decrease in this pattern #when DEC has been the accepted shorthand since the 50s #also its SC for single chain #and DC for double chain #and HDC for half doube crochet #NOT X #NOT F #NOT T #also also treble crochet exists in both Uk and US and mean two different things and T can probably be used as shorthand for a treble crochet #which means if someone sees T they will get the wrong impression #also W for three crochet in a single stitch?#either chart the fucking pattern or use the correct terminology #signed a very frustrated crocheter #I'm still trying to learn the differences between knitting terms ans crochet terms #i do not need a fucking rosetta stone for your made up bullshit #yes this not a problem #yes im still angry about it #eleven crochet patterns in one #and every single fucking one is like this #if this wss about saving space maybe i could understand #but it doesnt even save space each section is separated and each pattern uses this fucked up short hand #excuse me while I go FIX IT

Brain fart crochet moment

The moment when you're wondering why the current sleeve you're working on looks different from the sleeve you finished - and then you see the size of your crochet hook is two sizes smaller than the original hook you worked on and you grabbed it by accident. 🥲🙃And now I am unravelling all my hard work to do it again because velvet yarn is expensive af.

I think i figured out increases with scales. i was over thinking it. if you'd believe it

A Lot More Scales #as you can see here it used all 100 of my green metal scales and i had to dip into the plastic glow in the dark ones #i also need to crochet a little looser. cos to crochet w scales from the top down i gotta kinda. do them upside down and flip them? and if #i crochet too tight they dont wanna flip...and i cant do my usual trick of using a bigger hook cos this is the biggest hook i can use w #this hole size. anyway uh #the trick is astoundingly simple. first of all i do a scale every other stitch. and i do a half double crochet (usa terms)#and i do them every row. the half double seems to get me the height i want and work up pretty quick without getting too crowded #and then: get this. you just do the increases like normal. while still doing a scale every other stitch. and its just.....fine?#crazy shit #i was wayyy overthinking it and struggling

While she was cutting my hair I kept like 👁️👁️ analyzing my stylist's sweater trying to reverse engineer that thang mentally and I think I might have 80% of this crochet sweater pattern mentally pirated

I have no idea if anyone is interested but

I’m currently attempting to crochet the banner for the Golden Deer house in Fire Emblem: Three Houses.

Here’s how it’s doin so far:

I’ve spent 2.5hrs on it so far today and I think I managed to get about ~6-7 rows done in that time? It’s taking a While lol

It’s based off a cross-stitch pattern I bought off someone on Etsy. I don’t cross-stitch (tho honestly I would not be adverse to learning someday lol. I just didn’t wanna buy a whole bunch of new supplies again) so I decided to adapt it for crochet (with… some difficulty. Fun fact: cross-stitch has half-stitches. Crochet doesn’t).

I’m over halfway for the main design (the actual deer part) now. I still have to do the borders (and the bottom border is zig-zagged so… wish me luck tryna work out how tf ima do that lol). I have also yet to go back in and add the face + fur detailing but that’s a problem for future me (have fun me! :) )

(Also yes I am aware that the colours are a lil off. I did my best lol. I’m going for “recognisable” rather than “picture-perfect”).

But anyways. I’m still proud of it :)
