Hello, if it’s alright could I draw some fanart of my interpretations of the different angels? I must admit I barely passed the half way point on your novel and I’m obsessed with the angels. Although I do have a question where are the women??? Jkjk. But it’s been an itching question since they are gender less beings with many forms. Also do the angels ever take their more biblical form and 🪶🪶🧿🧿🧿🪶🪶 hello brother their fellow angels?
hello! of course!!! I love seeing interpretations!!! (though i do ask not to whitewash, if possible hghghg)
And the women!! Well! The (biblical) explanation is longer than I expected but here ya go:
Angels as genderless beings is.... actually not true. The Bible refers to angels as "sons" of God a couple times – like Job 1:6, Job 2:1 (most explicitly), and Genesis 6. Genesis 6 is pretty important, because if Job is right about angels being the "sons of God", then this chapter says angels are capable of sex and procreation (with women, at least, though I have some thoughts on that). Also, angels exclusively appear as men, in the Bible. When the angels visit Abraham, they're described as men. When they visit Sodom in Genesis 19, and all the Sodom men line up to try and have sex with the angels, the angels are described as men. (In fact, the "gay people are evil" understanding of the Sodom story is entirely contingent on angels being understood as men.) (Fun fact: it's from Sodom, also, that I reasoned all angels are outrageously sexy.)
But why are angels all men in the Bible? Well, the reason is because Eve is supposed to be the first women, and in traditional (sexist) Christian thought, Adam is a man, modeled on God, who is masculine. Because the angels are between them, then they're supposed to be men, or at least man-ish.
I remember when I learned all this I thought it was absolutely hilarious. God and his all-sexy-male angel paradise. Incredible. Perfect.
But in all seriousness, the origin of this idea is that Christianity is really sexist. And the gender of angels is something pretty much every significant angel writer/artist has struggled with, like John Milton in Paradise Lost.
The back and forth about angel gender is actually my absolute favorite thing about Paradise Lost. The most significant line is "for spirits, when they please, can either sex assume, or both;" which clearly states that angels are supposed to be intersex. And yet, all the angels in Paradise Lost are men, use male pronouns, and they're described in almost entirely masculine terms; one instance where that isn't the case is this one line about Lucifer: "his form had yet not lost all her original brightness". Even here, the feminine characterization is just an attachment to the masculine.
In my opinion, John Milton wants to explore angel gender (and angel homosexual sex, too, btw, as per angel Raphael telling Adam all about the gay sex angels are up to), but Milton is held back by the pretty clear Bible teaching that angels are supposed to be male or at least male-ish. (Also, my friend Cas is much more of an academic about John Milton, angels, and angel gender, and I'm mostly parrot-ing him because he's much smarter than me, so they're your guy if you have questions). I like Milton's ideas of angels being between gender, though, and I plan to do a lot more with that:
I played around with the bizarre idea of God and his all-male paradise, but ultimately, the angels in ABM are not male. There is no such thing as male because there is no such thing as female. Like Milton, I think they're between genders.
Why do they use he/him pronouns, then? As a nod to the "all angels are male" Christian teaching, and (on a more personal level) to explore tenderness and queer gender expression (all the makeup and jewelry and dressing up) in he/hims. (Plus, it's a tiny jab at machismo, which is incredibly attached to Mexican Catholicism and an enormous source of pain for me, so now I get to make Catholicism gay and girly and laugh to myself). But, lastly, pronouns don't equal gender. Men can use she/her, women can use he/him. (Especially coming from a Mexican perspective, it's pretty common to hear gay men use feminine pronouns to refer to themselves.)
But what about their bodies? Do they not have masculine bodies, then? As I mentioned in this ask (where I discuss the trans-ness of the ABM trilogy and angels and also God) and this ask (where I discuss angel sexual organs), I stay vague because you have the room to imagine whatever you want. Specifically, angels are intersex but what that means for their physical bodies is basically up to you.
(But why would you write vaguely? Because ABM is about gender and queerness, and the fact that it can't be easily understood and it takes on a life of its own for each reader is the point !)
ABM and its sequels are about angel gender trouble and gay feelings, so don't worry, you have a lot to look forward to in that regard.
Oh and about the "biblical forms".... :) no spoilers

Between Jazz and Jason, which one is more prone to think "Oh no, he's/she's hot when he's/she's sad"
I don't know how to answer this, anon. Sadness is not pretty.
I think I get where you come from - romanticizing sadness comes from way back in literature, finding melancholy and yearning cute and appealing.
But about finding someone "hot" when sad I'm not so sure.
Also Jason and Jazz would rush to comfort and console before stopping to think about finding the other cute or "hot" while sad. I don't think it'd be a priority for them.
thanks for the ask!

happy wincest wednesday!! what's your favorite post-s5 wincest scene?
why would you ask me, a kripke blog, this
Kidding lol. But I will go a bit unconventional! I actually love that SPN takes 🌹Romantic Tropes🌹 and uses them for brothers, so a lot of the Iconic Wincest Moments I prefer just as they are. <- edit: this might be a vocab interpretation thing: I use "samdean" as like, their canonical relationship and "wincest" for Sam + Dean + sex
Anyway I like fics/scenarios where they're just hunting on the road, no Big Bad, no interpersonal fighting, living outside society.. and fucking.
7x12 Time After Time is a great episode for this.
Starts off with Dean angsting/watching Sam sleep. Testament to their comfort with each other.
"Don't give me that dirty-diaper look." Baby brother🥺.
"I can't believe I'm about to say this but I hope you're watching cartoon smut." WEIRD SAM.
"Special Agent Smith. This is, uh, Special Agent Smith. No relation." Canon putting in 0 effort and letting them get away with shit like this does relieve me as a fan from worrying about some details, which I appreciate.
"What, are you gonna look up more anime, or are you strictly into Dick now?" Bully your brother with sexual jokes: Round 2!
The little security camera exchange: Dean getting to show off... for exactly 0.2 seconds. I love when Sam's mean <3
They're separate for most of the rest of the episode, and while they are ORANGE, Sam has nearly unforgivable sideburns, and Dean's written a bit too goofy for my tastes (come on, Ness obviously hasn't seen the movie stop quoting it at him), he also has moments of heroism (willing to be stuck in 1944), charm (kiss from Erza), and of course, the Connection he has with Sam is what saves the day. Writing him a letter that he leaves exactly where Sam will find it reminds me of the The Usual Suspects. <- this is the single scene I would chose, for the ask
Actually, the whole Sam/Jody + Dean/Erza/Ness parallel montage is quite nice. For all those boys' differences, they were raised together, think in much the same way.
It's just... Brothers. Not soulmates, not freaks. Arguably either one of them could leave the life (no big Chosen One plot), and if they're really that pressed to Save People... idk volunteer or go into nursing or something. But they're choosing to be together. They like each other.
And, it's a deleted scene, but the "Jealousy is a bad color on you bro"... yeah. They're fucking.

Though he may not look like it at all, once his hands touch the piano keys, melodies that sound like they came out of fairytales fill the air with a tranquil peace made for and only for you. Alexis was bright red like a tomato during the first ever time you caught him playing the piano, "It's a little embarrassing." He had told you then with a sheepish smile, but with your encouragement—and some ribbing from Kaiser, Alexis slowly but surely started opening up more about the small hidden talent he had. Ever since then, the two of you developed the habit of sitting in front of his family piano whenever you came over, listening to him play with his usual smile on his face.
Alexis was always smiling in fact, whether be it during football practice, following along with Kaiser's shenanigans, or even when he looked like he was ready to send someone home in a body bag. He would always be smiling.
But with you, his smile was a different kind of smile. It was more genuine, more gentle, more loving. Nobody never got that kind of smile from him, it was only meant for you after all. So imagine everyone's surprise when he sat there playing the piano in his backyard decorated with fairy lights, looking at you with that same loving smile he always gave you.
You stood there in awe, wondering what you did to receive such a blessing of a partner as him. Once his solo was finished, he slowly walked over to you—before kneeling down on one knee. At that moment, you felt like time had paused as tears started welling up in your eyes.
With his team's obnoxious cheering in the background, Alexis told you an oath that you remembered from an old movie.
“With this hand I will lift your sorrows,
Your cup will never be empty, for I will be your wine
With this candle, I will light your way into darkness
With this ring, I ask you to be mine."

your recent is. such a weird post to make. 99% of the time anime will rely on displays of characters’ cultures like their names, where they live, and the activities they partake in to show that theyre japanese rather than character designs. all of these characters are clearly meant to be japanese and its whitewashing to say otherwise just because they dont look japanese to you. plenty of asians get told they dont look asian because their features dont match up with what others perceive as “asian features” and this is super reminiscent of that. i dont see what about the names “reigen arataka” and “shou suzuki” scream white to you
i absolutely see your point! however. i think its interesting to imagine a non-japanese person (specifically a second-generation white/white&japanese immigrant) in a dominantly japanese environment + it puts an interesting spin on reigen's character with how it at the same time would alienate him in society while helping him create the image of this Incredible Psychic [more thoughts under the cut]
reigen very obviously lived his whole life in japan and recalls it sometimes (his school memories come to mind); he is familiar with the traditional clothing, food and activities, folklore, geography and such. so i do believe he has lived his whole life in japan! however, seeing how we haven't got to meet or even see or learn the name of his parents, i truly think he could be a white-with-an-asterisk dude who was born in japan. so culturally he is as japanese as it gets, but that doesnt mean he couldnt have white* parents/roots!
as for his name. 霊験灼か (reigen arataka) is actually not a traditional name, but a pun on the japanese phrase that sounds the same. so his name doesn't 'scream white to me' necessarily, but it isn't very strictly japanese either if that makes sense. even disregarding that and focusing on the possible-immigrant aspect:
first name arataka is self-explanatory, japanese (-sounding) name given to a kid who would need to integrate into the society (i am not actually sure that this name exists as neither the romanization nor the kaiju search return results besides reigen's name). and his last name reigen is not necessarily an originally-japanese surname -- it could be a katakana-zation of an english last name like Ragan or Ragen!
i also think that it would make sense to him to become a (charlatan) psychic because being white is seen as Other/Alien in the japanese society and it would add something of a mysterious prestige to his persona which would lead to more interest in his business etc. the other psychics who do psychic business in mp1OO present themselves in a pretty exotic manner (im talking hairstyle, clothes, tattoos) while reigen is just wearing a simple fucking suit and tie! and i think it would be really interesting if he had chosen to use his appearance/race to create this image of a 'professional foreigner who is very serious, competent and familiar with japanese culture/ghosts'.
i could write even more speculations re: his parents and races and heritages and just make up a whole shaky tower of headcanons but i dont really feel like researching it too long. what i will say from what i learned before falling too deep into this rabbithole: wiki lists reigen's birth year as a year of a rat. i think it's 1984 (would make him almost-thirty around when mp1OO was being published). before 1985, japan's jus sanguinis only automatically granted japanese citizenship to those who were born to a japanese father. so i think it would make sense for his father to be japanese/mixed and for his mother to be white*.

When you have telephobia and your best friend asks if they can call and suddenly anxiety hits you really bad, although you know its okay, cause they r your best friend, they already know all the stupid things about you and dont judge you. Yet you still get so anxious because you don’t get every information/ reaction from a phone call but somehow video calls r worse but texts are better????
You also never know when it’s your turn to say something so most of the time you are quiet during calls, which some people take as ignorance, where in fact you are just unsure or literally don’t know what to say
