haul of a girl that can't pick a substyle

my first brand swimsuit and an usakumya necklace i was very excited about finding!!

i was missing several of the early volumes of GLB and was able to fill in the gaps with a few of those. i've been interested in researching the history of the fashion recently so i'm constantly hunting for old magazines! i've added GLB volumes 1-4 & 6 & 49--as well as "Frill" volume 1 and the "Maison Gothic & Lolita Style" book to my media collection.

a metamorphose Alice OP (2000) that i got on auction!! the double sleeves and center buttons down to the bottom are my favorite. it didn't come with the apron, but i was lucky enough that the one from a different Alice OP, also from the year 2000... was on auction on a different platform at the same time. i bought them separately intending to pair them together! i quite prefer the style of this rounder edged apron rather than the more squared top one it's meant to go with.

this is actually the dress that made me realize the Alice OP Set on lolibrary has a long version (similar to the maid OP from 2003 mini & long or the nun style OP mini & long)--i'll have to remind myself to submit a correction for the current OP to indicate the mini variation, and to submit a new entry for the long length one if i can manage to find more information... though i had no idea of its existence until recently! from an old LM sales listing, i found that the mini length is around 88 cm, whereas this one is 125 cm. i severely underestimated the length of this and it's down to my ankles, but i suppose it'll be my first long dress ^_^

A bunch more Sylvanian customs! ...Well, some of them are Sylvanians. The characters shown from top to bottom: Jenny (tarantula, formerly baby bunny), Mariana (eel, formerly Baerenwald/Forest Family mouse), Morgan (rattlesnake, 3D printed and hand-flocked figure, original 3D “Snake Sylvanian” template by Yapsulli on Reddit), Dayton (opossum, formerly Angelina Ballerina “Henry” figure), and Dayton’s nieces and nephews (also possums, formerly meadow mouse babies). We’ve got a rather motley bunch here! The last photo is a group shot of all of the customs I’ve made so far.

Anyway, these were some pretty difficult and experimental figures! Lots of epoxy clay to turn the baby bunny into a tarantula and the Baerenwald mouse into an eel, and some weird materials like Mariana’s fin hair. Overall not everything turned out exactly how I hoped, but it was a great learning experience and has given me a lot of confidence working with very heavily customized figures.

Reshelled Dolls

Having been in this crazy hobby since May 2011, I have accumulated quite a few dolls (current count as of Nov 12. 2023: 51), but not all have stayed. Some even got reshelled.

Most of my reshelled dolls completely replaced the original shell, except in the case of Ursa and Lily. I have both of their (very different looking) shells still in my collection, with each being a version of the OC they represent. The others were mostly sold, though a few got a different character assigned to them (Val 1.0 Head = Kass, Morgan 1.0 = Viola, Sam 2.0 Head = Ivy). Basically I reshell dolls when their characters outgrow their doll avatars so to say.

I even reshelled my first doll, Melody, who had been an Obitsu 60cm Gretel and is now a Doll Chateau Snow Nymph. The original shell was sold because I found I vastly preferred resin to vinyl, and because the character had fallen out of use/importance. So initially I didn't even intend to reshell her.

It's kind of funny how Melody came about to be reshelled. I instantly fell in love with the DC Snow Nymph upon seeing her pictures, but couldn't afford or justify her yet, but I knew I needed her. It took me a while to figure out why and who she needed to be, and then it clicked, she was Melody.

My wife (then fiancee) surprised me by ordering her on layaway as a wedding gift for me. Which is very special for many reasons, one being that Melody had been the first OC I created specifically to RP with my wife with (though we were only friends at that point, quickly becoming besties though). So it was only fitting that she became a wedding gift in 2015 from my wife (though it took her many more years to finally shell Darten, her husband, in 2019 I think?).

My mom and one of her oldest friends have this tradition of sending each other postcards that say, "I'm here. You're not. Fuck you." They've been doing this since the 70s. This inside joke is older than I am. I've also sent her a few of these on my own travels. Given her current infatuation with Andy Robinson, I figured that this was the best souvenir I could get her at STLV:

I told him I was getting the photo signed for my mom. He asked me if I wanted it signed to me or to her, and I said something like, "Well, actually - and this is going to sound a bit weird and maybe kinda horrible - but would you be willing to write..."

That certainly caught him off guard lmao. He said, "I was definitely not expecting that to come out of your mouth."

I explained about the postcards and assured him that my mother would be completely delighted and it would absolutely make her year. He thought it was very funny and told me that my request made his day! And he also said that Squishy Garak was very sweet!

Definitely the highlight of the con for me. 😀

Can you please do a resin comparison of Myou white skin tone with Doll Family-h and other bjd companies that have jointed hands?

Companies that have yellow-toned white skins are good matches:

Angel of Dream, Chicabonita, Doll Leaves, Doll Love, Dollzone/Doll Chateau (sister companies), Mystic Kids, Souldoll, Sugarble, Xagadoll/Asleep Eidolon; Magic Time and Fairyland too, but their MSD dolls are smaller so parts may not be compatible.

Jointed hand candidates (handidates?):

Asleep Eidolon/Xaga Doll white 2021 looks fairly close to 2019 Myou white, and they offer 1/3-sized jointed hands.

Doll Leaves white is described as a good match in a comment from 2022, but the included photo link was broken unfortunately. I’ll see if I can ask the commenter to repost it!

Doll Legend jointed hands might have worked but the company seems to be defunct. ;-;

Doll Chateau’s 1/4 jointed hands fit nicely on Myou Doll’s 1/4 ver. 3 girl body. (A bit small on ver. 1 but still functional.)

9S went with me to the Dragoncon aquarium event!

I meant to have taking pictures of him & 2B be the main reason I went and I wore a cosplay only to not feel left out. But there was so much going on that taking pictures wasn’t feasible & I ended up having a bunch of fun taking pictures in my cosplay instead 😆 Next time, I’ll spare my dolls being lugged around a busy event and leave them at home unless it’s a doll event.
