does anyone want a lapvona book review without spoilers???!!🗣🗣
too bad cause im doing it anyway
Tumblr media
ok so what the fuck. genuinely.
it wasn't only confusing but also disgusting asf. im gonna review it without giving spoilers although i don't advise on reading it
it was a beautiful but only if you look at the way it was written. when ottessa wants to make a scene sad or disturbing she manages to perfectly, and the book was easy to read. BUT!!! surprisingly i didn't like it plotwise. i remember having gotten to the middle of the book still not knowing what the general idea of the book is, and from there on the plot just kept changing and changing every few pages, and im not talking about the cool plot twists, im talking about huge actions that completely could've changed the plot of the book BUT STILL DIDN'T CAUSE SHE DIDN'T STICK WITH IT. it honestly feels like she had a bunch of ideas for short stories or something and just threw them in there. there were a lot of plotholes and things that were just pointless and useless to the story. a book is supposed to have a start, a turning point, a climax and a solving, this one had constant highest peaks, and yet i didn't understand the main point of the book. like if you were to describe the entire plot in a few words you couldn't.
im not saying it didn't shock me or that i didn't enjoy turning every page to find some new damnation, but overall all of those interesting things didn't create a whole satisfying story and i KNOW im gonna have to reread it when im older.
plot: 7.8/10
writing: 9/10

Was this a gifted kid thing, or just a me thing?
Trying to find books that were actually a challenge to read because you were too advanced, and when you found them they absolutely traumatized you because the vocabulary was on level but the content was ABSOLUTELY NOT. Like I read “Tender Is The Flesh” in 8th grade and I almost vomited on several occasions.

Cormac McCarthy was what inspired me to start writing horror and become interested in disturbing literature. Especially his book Blood Meridian.

I'm working my way through a "disturbing books" list. I might put up reviews for Exquisite Corpse by Poppy Z Brite and Things Have Gotten Worse Since We Last Spoke by Eric LaRocca.

Iceberg Melting for Fun and Profit
I just saw somebody start their disturbing books list with The Fault in Our Stars and I am appalled. Anyone who thinks that book is disturbing needs to be tied to a chair and forced to read Ass Goblins of Auschwitz out loud from start to finish. So, to demonstrate how fucking hardcore spooky I am, I’m going through some disturbing books icebergs and mocking them. Author's note: I have not…

I just had to read this the minute I knew it existed. The subject and the author are a perfect match. I haven't gotten to the more insane parts yet, but Artaud is already turning every observation into something perverse just to give a sense of what's ahead. Just try not to judge me too harshly for reading this.

Whoa, hold up…..
People think The Hunger Games is a fucked up story about war? 🤣
Yall ain’t seen nothing yet. Peeps, I give you Dalton Trumbo’s Johnny Got His Gun.
This is an anti-war novel that was written in 1938, and it follows the story of WWI vet Joe Bonham. After awakening in a hospital, Joe finds that despite his mind working perfectly he is immobile due to injuries he suffered during the war. Unable to move or communicate with anyone, Joe is a prisoner in his own body.
The book won the National Book Award, and despite being regarded as one of the most horrific novels ever written it was made into an award winning movie in 1971.
If you wanna read a book about war, then you need to read this. Cause this is a book about war. Not Suzanne Collins’s Battle Royale fanfiction.
