Not to add more fuel to the fire but wasn't the human sacrifice aspect of mayan cultures made out by catholisim to justify not seeing indigenous people as people? I believe that's why the castas law was created later because someone argued against it and said they should be seen as something other than human

YES! Thank you! Look, I never finished my studies of Human Rights, I left Uni for helath problems but YES, THIS IS LIKE THE FIRST SHIT WE STUDY.

Ingidenou people were seen as animals and property, and then this one guy that made all those diaeries about the rapes and other horrible thing the indigenous people went through, came up with this epiphany that no, it’s not that they weren’t people, THEY WERE LIKE CHILDREN BECAUSE THEY DIDN’T KNEW HOW TO BE CIVILIZED (aka, like then who knew Christ and all that shit).

The law you mention, I don’t know all the details and to be honest I have never actually read it, but I do know it was for that. It was made to judge crimes made by indigenous people, black slaves, chinese servants and the castas that came out their unions (I think it just didn’t include people born from indigenous person/white european? I’m not sure).

But before that, they made out a bunch of stuff! Like they didn’t have a sense of family and didn’t care of their children (all untrue), to the most serious stuff like the human sacrifices and how “dark” their religion was, which is why there’s this belief that their Gods were all monsters and they adored death, like AJDSKDSKMDKDMFDMFM.

Leave Quetzalcóatl and the rest of the panteon alone.
