Saint Paul Minnesota elects the first all female council in its history

Six of the seven candidates elected Tuesday are women of color. All are under age 40, per the Minnesota DFL Party. Two were also endorsed by the local chapter of the Democratic Socialists of America.

An Instagram friend asked us to post what we've done to advance the Gay Agenda this week. This was my response: Wore my pearls to the office (pearl necklace, pearl earring, pearl bracelet).

Helped a counseling client see how to reconcile his faith with his bisexuality.

Downloaded several LGBTQ books to read, including A Case of Madness by Yvonne Knop.

Talked with editors about two very queer stories I wrote, one of which was recently published in Pink Triangle Rhapsody (an anthology of pulp fiction by gay writers) and one which is forthcoming in a folk horror anthology, Lonely Hollows.

Made my monthly membership contribution to the Democratic Socialists of America.

Subverted the dominant paradigm!

People do NOT respond to guilt and shame very well, especially when it comes to political activism.

On one side, people do not respond well to being told that they were wrong to vote for a candidate that wasn’t left wing enough because they didn’t have any better candidate options and don’t have the time, energy, resources, or courage to risk getting arrested or killed for doing direct action. It causes feelings of guilt, shame, and resentment.

On the other side, people don’t respond to being guilted into voting for a shitty candidate out of desperation for damage control. It makes you look like a pretentious snob. They don’t like feeling as though they are being gaslighted into praising mediocrity.

Doing it because you think they represent the most viable alternative to unfettered capitalism is a big mistake. hey fyi if you're a registered democrat (or independent who requested inclusion in the primary on your ballot) in CALIFORNIA and you want to protest biden's continued support of israel in the primary (like they have in minnesota and michigan), it's recommended that you leave the presidential area blank (vote for nobody) instead of writing in anything/editorializing. the reasoning for this is you don't want to accidentally negate your whole ballot (and there's a lot of important local and state elections that are important to vote in this upcoming tuesday too). to minimize this risk, it's suggested to leave it blank (what counts as "impeding tabulation" is pretty arbitrary and is at the discretion of election officials). info here: https://calmatters.org/politics/elections/2024/02/gaza-ceasefire-democrats-california-election/ also if you're a democratic socialist/progressive looking for some more solid info/recs (tho ofc you should always do your own research) on candidates and issues, the california dsa has a pretty solid voter guide here (if you're in la, the dsla chapter has their own local version available as a pdf here). voting day is tomorrow (march 5, 2024)!
