okay. So I've finished book 1 of keeper of the lost cities for the first time. And I'm loving this keefe dude already?? Like I never thought I'd like a fictional character so quickly. All it took was like one page for me to fall for him, I am aware that keefe is one of the most loved characters in the fandom, and I can see why (correct me if I'm wrong).

Also the book is a solid 9.5/10, the only thing I was frustrated about was probably the slight info dumping about the whole blackswan thing towards the end? because it took me like 3 reads to understand the whole situation, of course, we could just narrow it down to me being slow too, lol. But I'm VERY excited to continue reading the rest. So while we're at it, I'll put in my first impressions of the characters, so I can look back on it after I've read all the books, to see how much my perception has changed of them.

Sophie- i like her, she's really mature for her age, I keep forgetting that she's like 12 lmao. But she's well written, her emotions seem very raw and natural. Of course, she may seem overpowered but, I think that's the whole point of the story, she is supposed to be overpowered, so I don't mind and i wouldn't call her a Mary sue. Overall great protagonist, my girlie deserves a break tho, she got dumped in the hospital atleast 6 times lol.

Fitz- i actually think he's cool. I liked him better in the beginning of the story tho, I feel like afterwards, the dude kinda just disappeared a little? Keefe and Sophie seemed to have more private interaction than those two, and keefe literally only came by in the middle. But yeah, I feel like he had more of a personality in the start. Keefe and Dex, in my opinion had more personality in 5 minutes than fitz did the whole book, but I wouldn't judge so quickly, it's only the first book after all, Hopefully he'd have more page time in the later books. I still like him tho, just not as much as keefe.

Dex- Yeah he is such a typical best friend, I love him. His beef w the vackers is so funny lol I was relieved when Sophie stuck with him even after she became popular tho, also, he seems to have a crush on sophie right? It's kinda obvious, but overall friendship goals 10/10. I vocally "AWW-ed" after he said "are you kidding, i can't wait to tell everyone that you're my first friend" like I need a guy bestie like him :(

Alden- honestly, my heart warmed so much with his father-like dynamic with sophie tbh. He seemed to genuinely care about her well being, but I don't want to get too attached to him tho, just in case becomes a traitor or some shit later on, you can literally never tell with the adults lol. I've read enough books to back that up. But yeah, i really like him and della, the amount of reassuring hugs he gives sophie really heals me :(, They're like sophies 2nd (well, in her case, 3rd) parents. The amount of effort and lengths Alden put to get her out of trouble is actually sweet.

Elwin- This guy is such a W. He is like an adult keefe tbh. He is probably my favorite adult so far lol.

Cassius- I'm sorry, but Mr jerk face over here reminds me SO much of Lucius Malfoy??? Like ?? I feel so bad for Keefe, like poor baby leave him alone smh. I really wanna deck his royal highness in the face tbh.

Biana- absolutely loathed her in the beginning, she gave off such bad snob vibes lol but I love her now. I like the trope of two people forced to be friends w eachother by someone actually end up becoming friends. It's rather uncommon as far as I've read, atleast.

Grady and Edaline- is it bad that i thought they were going to be evil? Yeah I have so much trust issues, it's concerning. But yeah, they're both big W's, their backstory, their temporary contemplation to reject sophies adoption, everything aligned well with their backstory. Greatly written characters.

And last but not least, the king himself, Keefe- okay, he's like added to my list of fictional crushes now lol (along with Percy Jackson, Jason grace, Steve Harrington, chat noir, Eugene fitzherbert, edmund pevensie and Ravi singh ofc). How does sophie not have a fat crush on him, like- ma'am if you don't want him, I'll take him. But jokes aside, he feels like the most authentic character out of them all, tbh. Epitome of great writing. He was inserted to the story as this random dude that sophie runs into, and becomes an og in like 5 minutes. He is like a mix of Eugene from tangled, Kristoff from Frozen and chat noir from mlb all at the same time?? I cannot wait to see more of him and his backstory, especially with his parents. I know alot of people dislike the humorous guy with depression trope since it's overused, but I like how it played out on keefe, he uses school as an escape, which is very relatable.

Also, bonus, i LOVE the world building, the light leaping and all, very creative. I cannot wait to get my hands on book 2

A Brief Guide to Yachts

This is a continuation to my cultural education segment (aka my rich bitch guide).

The yacht is an invention of the 14th century Dutch. The Dutch used small, fast boats for chasing smugglers, pirates and criminals. Rich ship owners and merchants began using these small “jaghts” to sail out to celebrate their returning merchant ships.

The first yacht club in the world, called the Cork Water Club, was established in Ireland in 1720.

Some famous clubs include:

USA:

1. Annapolis Yacht Club: Surrounding the Spa Creek Bridge in Annapolis, the Club boasts over 75 wet slips and dry dockage. The club began in 1886 as an informal canoe club, and today has 1600 regular members active in social, racing, and cruising programs

2. Chicago Yacht Club: Founded in 1875, Chicago Yacht Club is one of the oldest and most respected yacht clubs in the world. The Club is home to more than 1,400 members, including a winning America’s Cup skipper, and Olympic medalists.

Italy:

1. Circolo Canottieri Aniene

2. Circolo degli Esteri

3. Compagnia della Vela

Canada:

1. Royal Canadian Yacht Club

2. Royal Vancouver Yacht Club

Yachts are most active in the summer months (May- August in the northern hemisphere) or the winter months. many yacht owners decide to keep the maximum number of guests onboard to 12 (plus crew) for chartering.

Different types of yachts:

Sailing Yacht: a yacht mainly propelled via wind and sails

Motor Yacht: a yacht propelled via one or more motors

Gulet Yacht: a hybrid yacht with both sails and motors

Open Yacht, Cruiser, Cabin Cruiser, Express Cruiser: an otherwise uncategorized standard yacht for cruising and entertaining

Luxury Yacht: a yacht that includes high-end finishes and features and the latest in modern performance technology. The term ‘luxury’ can precede any type of yacht, i.e. “luxury motor yacht”, “luxury sailing yacht”, etc.

Sports Yacht: a yacht geared towards fishing, water sports, or cruising with a sleeker design and more powerful motor for faster cruising speeds.

Catamaran Yacht: a yacht with two hulls (pontoons) often made of fiberglass that can be used in shallow waters.

6. Costa Smeralda, Italy

Football club owner Shahid Khan's 95 metre Lürssen Kismet was delivered in 2014. On match days, a four-metre silver statue of a jaguar, its paw resting on a football helmet, graces the bow. Elsewhere, its sizeable foredeck has enough space for Khan's beloved football team, the Jacksonville Jaguars, to stage a practice.

The 70 metre Feadship superyacht Joy features a deck that's wide enough to enjoy a tandem jog around. This yacht is all about exterior living, which includes making use of these ample decks with some great sporting facilities. Il tesoro della nonna

The sun was setting as you were going to land in Italy, your girlfriend was still fast asleep on your shoulder. You and Alessia were going to spend the summer with her family to learn more about the Italian culture and spend more time with her nonna.

As the announcement came through that you were going to land in the next 15 minutes you tried to wake up the blonde next to you.

"baby wake up"

You whispered as you squeezed her thigh softly. Ocean blue eyes looked back at you tiredly before a smile graced the pretty Italians face.

"Was I asleep the whole flight?"

She mumbled tiredly as she fastened her seatbelt.

"Yeah.. you were asleep before we even took off"

You laughed as alessia hit your shoulder softly.

A few hours later you were sitting at the dining table eating various types of pasta dishes and seafood with the love of your life and her family. They've known you for quite a while since you and Alessia have known each other since the U15s England camps.

"Nonna this is absolutely amazing"

You sighed as you stuffed your face with more food earning a shove from your girlfriend next to you.

"The food won't run away you know"

She laughed as you rolled your eyes at her.

"Alessia lasciala in pace!"

Her grandmother remarked as a smug grin painted your face.

"you heard her my love"

The blonde sat next to you with her eyes wide open as you kept on laughing.

"When did y/n became your favourite nonna?"

The blonde asked.

"When did you bring her here for the first time bambina?"

"NONNA-

You and her grandmother started laughing hysterically as Alessia was mean mugging both of you.

For the rest of the evening you and Alessia started to unpack all the luggage and watched a movie with the rest of the family. You woke up the next morning as the sunlight hit your face and a cute blonde was still asleep. Your arm was draped around her as her back was facing you. Soft sighs were coming from your girl as you placed a few kisses on the back of her head before you got up to surprise her with some of her favourite food.

As you walked into the kitchen you were greeted by nonna who was sitting there peacefully drinking her coffee.

"y/n! how did you sleep bambina?"

"amazing nonna, I really needed that"

"Allora, che vuoi mangiare?

You smiled warmly at the older women as she already got up from her seat to make her way to the fridge.

"Can you show me how to make pastina? It's lessis favourite"

"Of course bambina"

She smiled softly at you as she took out the needed ingredients. Pastina is known as Italian comfort food and Alessia asked for it whenever she was feeling down. You tried every recipe but lets be honest, nonnas way is the only appropriate way.

After Nonna talked you through the steps, the pasta was now boiling in some chicken broth as you two were cutting up some vegetables.

"Y/n, can I ask you something?"

"yeah nonna?"

"Did you and Alessia talk about marriage?"

A soft smile appeared on your face as you remembered the ring appointment you made before you flew to Italy. The amount of silence was enough for nonna to figure out you what you were thinking.

"when are you proposing?"

She asked sweetly as her eyes squeezed shut from all the smiling.

“I made an appointment to get the ring.. but very soon nonna, I promise”

The smile that graced your face made your cheeks hurt as your girlfriends grandmother pulled you in for a big hug.

“avrò dei nipoti!”

The shorter woman screamed in joy as your eyes bulged out.

“wait nonna-“

"we have to learn the dance"

she stated seriously as you looked at her confused

"what dance?"

You asked. Soon enough she explained to you the traditional Italian dance "la tarantella", which was usually done by guests when the couple would have their first dance. After a few minutes you put on some music to try it out.

You and nonna were having the time of your lives trying all sort of dance moves which could go with the music. Meanwhile Alessia was already awake, watching the both of you from afar feeling her heart swelling with love for the both of you.

After a few minutes the blonde entered the room giving her nan a hug and yourself a quick kiss.

"I see you got dance lessons"

She remarked sweetly as she cuddled into your side.

"How much did you see?"

You chuckled as you rested your arm around her, placing another kiss on the side of her head.

"Enough to fall in love with you all over again"

She whispered so only you could hear. Your cheeks turned a crimson colour at alessias confession and even your heart rate doubled.

"You really have a way with words Russo"

The blonde chuckled before she placed another kiss on your cheek.

"Odio rompere il momento but the Pastina is getting cold"

"You made Pastina?"

Your girlfriend asked as her face lit up.

"We, I showed y/n how to make it, now she can cook it for you bambina"

Alessia let out a squeal of joy as she watched the pot full of her comfort food get placed on the table. It was safe to say that you made this recipe a lot of times after you went back to the UK.

Queen Consort Morosina De'Cremonesi-Grimani circa 1861-1932 Born as the second daughter of the Viscount of Trieste, Lady Morosina was considered plain in looks and thought. This characterization was paid no mind to a certain prince, who overlooked her beauty to instead gaze upon the immense riches of her father. Married to a man two decades her senior, she was famously unhappy. Many considered her a prude, drab, and a woman who didn't deserve the fortune of marrying into the coveted De Cremonesi House. Queen Vittoria De'Cremonesi circa 1890-1943 The only Queen of the 20th century, Vittoria made a name for herself in all the ways that didn't matter. She spent her days living lavishly under the jewels and lights of the Jazz Age. Her parties were known far and wide. The most notorious names of the time graced her halls. Anyone of any birthright, class, talent, or profession could gain an invitation. Famously, when asked about the very topic she replied, "Let them sip champagne and dance; to a beggar, even a fortune is worth only these crumbs." This being said during a time of need. Queen Consort Georgiana Della Rovere circa 1935-1982 Everyone knew Georgiana Della Rovere was born a star, and so she made herself such. Born in the Cagliari province to a doctor and nurse, she fought to break out of the expectations of her parents. And make a name for herself. She became a model, a variety show hostess, and finally a leading star. She was an influential idol of the 50s and 60s. Georgiana had a very colorful life, she was married four times – Twice to the same man – and for the last time, she married a prince. Lady Madelaena Sforza circa 1960-2023 "The Queen who would never be," is a title she earned with her infamous divorce to then, Prince Milano De'Cremonesi. A Sforza from birth, betrothed to a prince since her sixth year, she was no stranger to the complexities of her "high society". How to act, what to say, how to treat and be treated. It came as no surprise when she walked in on her husband and her lady-in-waiting. "This is what they do, the men," everyone told her. But unlike the women in her station before her, she wouldn't stay silent. Some may agree that she may have milked the affair far too long, but none would deny reputations destroyed and the scandal that came with the campaign: A book, interviews, confessions of infidelity, and the iconic revenge dress. Queen Consort Fernanda De'Cremonesi-Adragna circa 1965-2049 Lady Fernanda Adragna was disgraced from a very young age. If you asked her the reason at 6 she'd repeat, "An Adragna is never fortunate," if you asked at 18 she'd cry, "parent's divorced, father imprisoned, embezzlement a sin," and if, years later, you ever found the chance to ask again. She might mention a prince, an affair, a baby, and a wedding. With a past like hers, no one could blame her for her reputation. Her husband loathed her, her children tolerated her, and people whispered.
