this has been tumbling around in my mind for the last week so now i have to expose all of you to it. shoutout to @wellgoslowly for listening to this in person
lockwood LOVES listening to classic rock and metal (as well as a few older pop-punk but he'll never admit to it). anything from the seventies and eighties (he pretends that no other era of metal exists and if you even say the phrase "nu metal" around him he WILL see red and draw his rapier). it doesn't matter who the band is or what subgenre they are, as long as the song was released pre-nineties he loves it, although he tends to prefer more mainstream bands and artists (respect) like ozzy osbourne, judas priest, kiss, etc. the only band he will break this rule for is metallica - they are his all-time favorite band and i will die on that hill. and when i say he WORSHIPS james hetfield... that is an UNDERSTATEMENT. james is like a pseudo-father to him. he doesn't want to put posters on his walls so he keeps a scrapbook of pictures cut out of old magazines of james, lars, kirk, cliff, even jason and rob. he is a number one dave mustaine hater and will defend lars's drumming skills until he's blue in the face. lucy got him a signed copy of ride the lightning for his birthday one year and george didn't see either of them leave lockwood's room for a week. there are only three things he loves in this world: his family, his friends, and james hetfield.
lucy, i feel like, has the most whiplash taste in music. like, yes, we can all agree lucy is your average indie pop listener and i am a major supporter of that hc (i know what linnie’s playlists sound like) but i guarantee you when she shuffles her most-listened-to playlist it goes from crane wives immediately to cannibal corpse. she loves death metal, deathcore, goregrind; the nastier the better (except for black metal - iykyk). the era doesn’t matter to her either although she tends to gravitate toward the older stuff. think opeth, cryptosy, morbid angel, deicide, obituary, venom, slayer, even xavlegimaofffassssitimiwoanindutroabcwapwaeiippohfffx - she loves playing the “can i figure out the name of the band given the logo” game and if she loses she listens to them. she finds it a great way to unleash her stress and anger without hurting herself or others or even taking it out on a case. she doesn't like to mosh (autism) but she loves watching people in the pit at concerts. she drags lockwood and george to the store to help her pick out plushies to give to corpsegrinder. one night she goes to a taylor swift concert and rushes out at the end to make it to sanguisugabogg in time. she's also a big female-rage/female-led fan (fem supporting fem yk how it is). if there is even a single fem-presenting band member she is instantly ride-or-die (within reason, of course). any time conquer divide/castrator/cyrpta do an eu tour she essentially becomes a roadie.
george. oh, george. my beloved kin. the only one who understands me and i him. his taste in rock and metal is... i don't know a better way to describe it other than neurodivergent fruity. it needs to have some kind of element to it that he can latch onto other than just the music - costumes, over-the-top production, detailed lore, etc. like lockwood, he doesn't really care about the subgenre; as long as he likes the sound he'll listen. he tends to frequent more of the nu/prog/melodic/symphonic side of metal, though. he's your average autistic ghost fan and makes it everyone else's problem. he knows all the lore and has dedicated his life to every incarnation of papa (primo is his favorite but he loves them all). he can tell the ghouls in every era apart in an instant and is a consistent quintessence ghoul kinnie. he will not hesitate to get into twitter beef to defend his opinions (bro's in the trenches of toxic ghostwt). he's one of the most well-known ghost accounts on every social media platform and actively writes fanfiction (about the characters, NOT the real people), character analyses, and essays. he's also a HUGE sleep token fan (he understands their lore better than vessel himself and has created a youtube commentary channel just to break down each of their songs) and ice nine kills fan (he's a number one ricky armellino lover and has forced lockwood and lucy to watch all of the horror movies that the silver scream one and two are based off of). he loves avatar and made his own ringmaster costume (lucy walked in on him trying to recreate johannes's makeup and slowly backed out of the room; the situation was never mentioned again) and when chris motionless unveiled his new hair he screamed so loud that the others thought someone had broken into portland row (lockwood had to restrain him while lucy hid his laptop to prevent him from ordering purple hair dye). he has a ziplock bag of (definitely expired) marshmallows that he calls his “rammstein concert care package.” he pretends to be a gatekeeper but the instant someone mentions even a passing interest in any of his favorite bands he will burst into tears.
skull enjoys smooth jazz.

Would you unironically say "Core isn't metal poser" and if so where's the best place to submit pictures of me crying?
I would actually NEVER say that because I think the limits of metal as a genre are so beautifully fuzzy that setting a hard line between stuff that is distinctly metal and stuff that's metal-adjacent but distinctly NOT metal is an impossible and stupid task (I mean... is dungeon synth "metal"? is darkwave "metal"? is djent "metal"? is drone doom "metal"? Is blackgaze "metal"? I think it's impossible to answer unless you do it on a song-by-song basis and that would just be boring as fuck), plus almost every single time someone pretends that such a line exists and X genre is on the other side of it they're not actually setting that line it based on musical style or musical taxonomy but instead using their claim about whether something "is metal" or not as a value judgement (basically treating "X is not metal" and "X is bad and I don't like it" as synonymous), which is doubly stupid.
I don't like metalcore or deathcore or most -core genres but I've actually gotten into internet fights for defending them from "core isn't metal" weirdos, I've had dudes call me a poser, gay, etc etc for saying what essentially boils down to "even if neither of us likes metalcore I think it has enough overlap with metal musical elements to be considered a metal subgenre and I think it's pretty stupid to deny that just because it's a subgenre you don't like"
Basically if you ever see me make an authoritative "X is not metal" statement as a way to legitimize my personal value judgement of a metal-adjacent musical style, you have my permission to kill me right then and there because if I'm saying shit like that the real Carlos Imsobadatnicknames is already dead.

Stop blindly idolising and defending shitty people just because they are in a band you like.
Stop making excuses for people when you wouldn't do so for anyone else.
Stop picking and choosing what you hold people accountable for- racism is racism, regardless of who is being racist or how long ago it was.
Stop being surprised when the people you idolise are shitty people- in reality, almost everyone is a shit person in the music industry, especially in metalcore and deathcore. Yes, your favourite musicians are almost certainly shitty human beings.

A blackened deathcore masterpiece
King of the crows
Tonight I will be crowned as the king of the crows
My disciples who don’t abandon me
Tell me the news from the human world
I am the chosen of Morrígan
My jet black feathered friends is my true friends
Grant me protection, great goddess Morrígan
xxxx
I hear thy word of my chosen
On the battlefields of blood stained Gaia where I stood alone
Restore order upon the world
Rise my sword to defend the ill Gaia
My scavengers set lose upon the flesh of humanity
Witness their species’ self-destruction
xxxx
To the hell fire that I approach to claim my crown
A warrior’s journey is almost complete
Sworn vengeance in Gaia’s name
The blinded fools must paid for their misdeeds
Blinded by their own arrogance, greed and ignorance
A day of judgement is coming soon
xxxx
My Beloved familiars signaled the last great battle
Fear my wrath at hand
Your journey to hell is set to begin
Your only warning is the sounds of my feathers
Be very afraid

Holy shit! It’s been awhile and the year is almost over and there’s so much to say so I better make this quick.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The new Bullet for my Valentine album is okay.
The new Oceans EP is nøt okay.
Deathcore is alive and well in 2021.
Fortitude pretty great but I still prefer Magma just slightly.
Washing machine noises!
What the hell was that EP, Serj?
I think Frontierer might have beat Car Bomb at their own game.
What the fuck, Marilyn Manson?
The new Full of Hell is like a spar with a ferocious fighter whose movements you’ve figured out and now know how to sufficiently defend; was hoping to get my ass kicked.
Oh yay, Porcupine Tree is back :|
Cryptosis filling the metal ecosystem’s Vektor-shaped hole with the debut of the year.
Obviously I’m psyched for Khemmis this week.
A tour was not the announcement I was hoping for, Meshuggah :/
Corey’s best mask yet.
You’re telling me that took you guys ten years, Fred. It’s not like Tool who just took their sweet time the get around to making their album, you were in production hell and label disputes for this unfinished mess for the better part of last decade. Amazing. I love it.
Best Cradle of Filth album in at least a decade.
Support Cane Hill on their independence.
This Converge / Chelsea Wolfe collab better be as good as it damn well should be.
They did not need to make school this hard.
Kin is the album The Valley should have been.
Idk if I want Deafheaven to give pure shoegaze another try; I know they can do better, just not sure if they will.
None of you should listen to me after I gave Endarkenment a 7/10 last year, I clearly can’t be trusted. (9/10 at least)
Bad Wolves, Asking Alexandria, Black Veil Brides still addicted to making absolute trash.
Knocked fucking Loose!
Trivium powering through what should be a stagnant phase of their career through sheer tenacity, absolutely respect the dedication.
King Woman or Hiss Spun, I still can’t decide.
I DO NOT get the hype around Spiritbox’s decent djent riffs and gutless top 40 choruses.
Donda was kinda lame.
Idk what’s going on with Fear Factory, but they could probably still be making legendary albums if not for it.
Beast in Black is the cheesiest shit ever and I love it.
Billie Eilish with another solid album.
I discovered that it is indeed possible to implode due to the sheer magnitude of cringe.
Jim Breuer was never funny, he just knew how to do Brian Johnson’s voice, but now his “comedy” is physically painful to watch.
Holy shit, Altarage!
2021 has not been the best year for Profound Lore.
Come on Dream Theater..
You could’ve picked a much better act to tour with, Korn, than the washed up whiny racist uncle Aaron Lewis clown show experience.
Cannibal Corpse keep on Cannibal Corpsing :)
Why has god abandoned us?
So Brent Hinds is still a piece of shit.
Plasmodium’s Towers of Silence is like taking too much of an edible in outer space.
That’s more like it, Godspeed.
They did not need to make life this hard.
I’d like a refund.
Doom metal on Bandcamp needs a serious rejuvenation.
Archspire are not human.
For the most part I don’t think metal has a huge problem with it, but I hope artists across the board (but much more importantly, bookers and promoters) take note of what went down at Astroworld.
Any day now, Wrest
Any day now, Gorguts
Any day now, Neurosis
Any day now, Necrophagist (hahahahahahaha lolololol)
Any day now, rogue asteroid.
For some reason is didn’t expect Sinner Get Ready to be all that great, but it’s the best album I’ve heard since starting this blog.

Your adoption au is amazing plz give me more!!!!
okay so i’ve also been thinking about the fam’s fav music genres (w/ songs!) and
- Arthur: deathcore/death metal or metal in general; example: Reign of Darkness by Thy Art Is Murder
- John: modernish/classic rock example: Rats by Ghost
- Bill: some country bullshit i can’t make myself listen to
- Javier: Rap? ye. i literally know nothing about it and i hardly listen to it, but i do rly like this song and lund in general
- Lenny: - same as above
- Tilly: Lofi and acoustic! esp Colder Throats by Laila and Old Hotels by The Adjective and im closing my eyes by potsu
Micah: some fuckin minecraft remix bullshit  anything by black veil brides
Kieran: anything on the radio
Mary-Beth: nightcore.
Karen: literally anything by demi lovato or billie eilish
Charles: those nature sounds dvds
Abigail: also some country bullshit but like carrie underwood and stuff
Dutch & Hosea: opera or anything vintage! like La Foule by Edith Piaf or Douce France by Charles Trenet and anything by Frank Sinatra
the fam goes on vacation to the beach once a year and it’s chaos like everything else in their lives
Kieran needs floaties to swim and its!!!! so cute
Bill won’t stop hitting on sunbathing moms like BILL STOP
Micah is constantly trying to dunk Sean and at this point Dutch and Hosea are Tired
Arthur is a little self-conscious so he hangs out in the beach house with everyone else (tbh they’re prolly stealing Dutch’s whiskey he brought specifically for this vacation)
- when Arthur’s mad he blasts his metal playlist (specifically carnifex or playing with fire by chelsea grin)
like dutch comes in and he’s like “hey can you turn that down”
and arthur slowly starts turning the volume knob up higher
and dutch just “arthur......dont you do it”
and arthur, being a fuckin emo brat does it anyway
- Mary-Beth plays the sims!!! esp sims 2
- John plays fornite lmao and bo1 zombies w/ javier and charles
- Dutch’s hatred of Colm is no match for Hosea’s hatred for magazine recipes
- Dutch hates Colm over some petty shit like Colm’s yappy ass chihuahua
- Dutch walks Cain by Colm’s house like “lol my dog could FUCKIN EAT ur dog”
- also did i mention that Javier has a pet snake (its a python)
- also also Kieran has a hamster :>
- Arthur has a fish!!! it’s a beta named,,,,,Fish. Albert calls him Fishy :>
- Arthur isn’t v creative w/ names except for what he names his horses
- When Abigail takes Jack and the younger kids to the park, Arthur, John, Javier and Bill tag along bc they’re children who want to play on the equiptment
- the kids used to go to public school but Micah wouldn’t stop getting detention and Arthur kept getting into fights
- and Charles would also fight defending Arthur
- also Hosea LOVES babies. Arthur cannot stand them. (neither can Javier but he knows a cute baby when he sees one)
- one time Bill got grounded for yelling at customer service reps bc he couldnt get fortnite to download on his ps4
- turns out Bill is just technology stupid and Charles had to connect his ps4 to the wifi

  SETLIST:
– Devil Inside
– Losing Memories
– Time
– Forevermore
– Hallowed Be Thy Name (Iron Maiden Cover)
– Insomnia
  CICONIA
