solangelo recs?? of course!!

well, first off: anything solangelo by @buoyantsaturn who i hope doesn’t mind being bothered tagged. Particularly I know what I should do, but I just can’t walk away and I’m in Hell. Both Modern AUs and both masterpieces!! The first is a College AU that largely focuses on grief and healing, the other an AU where Will has a daughter and hires Nico as a nanny.

As someone who usually prefers canon fics, these were soooo great.

But really, everything I’ve read from this author is well written and captures Nico and Will so well that you can’t go wrong. Pick one and enjoy.

also: like a dog with a bird at your door by RegretfullyRegretful (and anything else by this author too). It’s also a Modern AU (Nico and Will are best friends who marry for convenience) but oh. god. Oh god. Obsessed with it.

Big classic: both with the lights on and will the lights on (same story but told by Will’s PoV) by nikkiRA. This is my comfort fic. I re-read it what? Once every two months? And it hits every single time. It’s a lighthearted College AU for when you need a reminder that love exists. Also Opportunity Knocks, still by nikkiRA. It’s set in canon and it’s about Nico having to relive the same day over and over because he’s been cursed by Aphrodite (u can guess what she wants him to do to break the curse lol).

Anything by Rosyredlipstick!! Particularly the star and the nothing (Nico tries to make a relationship with Will work as he struggles with trauma and alcoholism), Rental Love* (Nico hires Will as a fake boyfriend), and hands cupping sparklers (them getting together in canon while the entire Camp roots for them. It’s HILARIOUS). But really, every single one of their Solangelo AU fics. Some of them are set in canon and some are not, but all are amazing.

As If Hands Were Enough (To Hold An Avalanche Off) by theroyalsavage is also an amazing College AU.

if you need, come build your home in me by yrbeecharmer is a canon fic that follows Will growing up, from his first day at Camp to getting with Nico. It’s great and made me go all 🥰🥰 in my feels.

too much (yet never enough) by significant_what is a masterpiece. AU where Nico and Will meet in Catholic school. I get teary-eyed just thinking about it.

I’m halfway through Sanctuary by Tundras_And_Taigas and it’s pretty great!! Basically it’s set during ToA (but Nico and Will still aren’t a thing) and Will is forced to go live in Nico’s cabin.

and you can check out my fics if you want: Bad Sons (you kinda have to have finished ToA for this one tho) and Made your mark on me (a golden tattoo), but i’m a bit… weird when it comes to shipping. Bad Sons focuses more on Will as a character and his relationship with Apollo (tho plenty of solangelo fluff!!) and Made Your Mark On Me is about cheating, so i don’t know if they could be to your taste. I also don’t presume to think I write as well as the names I’ve given you but I try <33

I consider most of the fics I’ve recced pretty well known by fandom standards so I don’t know if I’ve helped you find anything new, but I hope I did!!

As for random pjo fics I like, I mostly like ToA ones so, lol

The Stolen God by @tsarinatorment is a great one, tho again I’d advice finishing the series to read it.

Also post-ToA, Build It Better Than The Sun by @seavoice is amazing

ToA fics by @flightfoot (Keyseeker on Ao3), particularly Memories of Godly Selfishness (Apollo and Meg are forced to watch some of Apollo’s memories and realizations are realized) and her long series God’s Eye View. I still haven’t had the chance to read the second one but every ToA fan I know has and what can I say, I trust my people.

@moodyseal has some too, my fave is A Spark Of Hope because it’s an obligatory read after TBM.

holy. moly. this story has me in a chokehold fr. aims writes so beautifully and i hang on to every word she writes. im in awe of how well she captures each and every scene. i connect to this story so so much. i’ve never felt so heard and understood in my life lol. seriously my favorite series ever. i’ve reread it like 5 times and i’ll still go back and read it. it’s such a place of comfort and feels so safe even though it deals with darker content. like it literally changed my life lol. i can literally go on and on forever but i highly suggest this series, even if you aren’t in the aot fandom.

3) Do you prefer writing OC’s or reader inserts? Explain your answer.I’ve actually never tried to write a reader insert before. I think it takes a specific skill set to write a good reader insert, because you want lots of people to be able to imagine themselves in the story! I personally enjoy the process of fleshing out an OC more and tailoring them to the needs of the story.

9) In When You Met Me, what’s your favourite scene that you wrote?Hmm. Actually, I think it’s this tiny little scene right here:

"Daniel?" Lucifer asks, gently swirling his wine around in its glass. "If you're protecting me, who looks after you?"

Dan looks up from twirling spaghetti on his fork, all the certainty itching where his skin meets the bone.

"You will," he says. "Won't you?"

Lucifer's eyes are wide with an emotion Dan can't hope to describe. He says, "Yes, I suppose I will," and steals half a chicken cutlet off Dan's plate.

Because it’s such a soft little moment, and it’s really the crux of the whole fic--these two hurt people looking after each other. My second fave scene to write was probably the ending, which comes right after this.

12) Who is your favourite character to write for? Why?Hmm. I feel like sheer wordcount-wise the answer is clearly Dan (or Bitty from OMGCP, though I’m pretty squarely out of that fandom now). I’m also really interested in writing some stuff from Eve’s POV, because I adore her and I think her journey is fascinating. I enjoy writing Dan because there are a lot of themes in his character to explore that I like to unpack, and so many different directions to take his relationships (especially with Lucifer) based on where you are in the story.

33) What’s the biggest compliment you’ve gotten?Oh man, this is tough because I’m really grateful for so much of the positive feedback I’ve gotten. I think the most meaningful to me has been the people who read my stories about Miley, an autistic OC I co-created with @soundslikepenance and @blithelybonny, and told me that they felt represented by him in a way that they don’t often get to feel. I feel similarly about comments I get on other stories when someone feels seen like that, but Miley is particularly dear to me. (Read about Miley as part of the Suitehearts series!)

38) If you could collab with any other writer on here, who would it be? (Perhaps this question will inspire some collabs!) If you’re shy, don’t tag the blog, just name it.I feel like this is a cop-out answer because we collab all the time, but @soundslikepenance and @blithelybonny are honestly forever my dream team, my #hellsquad, my hivemind

39) Do you prefer first, second or third person?I used to really prefer first person, but fandom has converted me to third person. That being said, I like a really “tight” third person POV, where it’s not only limited but feels like it’s deep within the POV character’s head and narrated in their voice. I think that’s definitely influenced by my roots in first person POV original fiction reading/writing.

How did you come up with your username and what does it mean? i wanted a Haikyuu!! themed username since i fell deep so here we are :3 in terms of my ao3 username, Miah_Kat, it’s a mashup of my nickname & a name for an old OC; i use some variation of it as a default whenever i make a new account somewhere bc i’m bad at thinking up usernames on the spot. ^^”

2. Which fanfic of yours has the most feedback? (bookmarks/subscriptions/hits/kudos). what if i told you...? is at the top with 734 hits & 133 kudos (!!!!! holy crow) on tumblr, Cafuné is the most popular with 46 notes :”D

3. What is your AO3 profile icon, and why did you choose it? it’s of megane Oikawa! ^^ i chose it because he’s one of my favorite characters & he looks damn good in glasses

7. Which AU do you find yourself writing the most? i don’t stray far from canon-compliant stuff but i find myself writing a lot of getting together, first kisses, or domestic fluff kind of stuff. If I’m going to go full-AU though I lean towards fantasy.

9. Is there something you’d like to write about but are afraid of people judging you for it? (Feeling brave? If so, share it!) mmm well i think every writer has some general fears of being judged, regardless of what’s written. for me, maybe smut since i just don’t write it often (& i’ve only ever posted one fic that has it)

10. Is there anything you would like to be better at? Writing certain scenes or genres, replying to comments, updating better, etc. writing in general?? lol idk i’d like to be more...dedicated, i guess? i can’t seem to finish anything without it taking months. i also have a hard time with details, so i’d like to find a good middle-ground with that. oh, and world-building when writing fantasy (it’s just so much work aslkdjfk)

Do you write rarepairs or popular ships more often? i write popular ships more often but i’m absolutely open to writing rarepairs! i know it can be disheartening to really love a ship but not be able to find much content for it, so i don’t mind getting rarepair requests. i like making people happy if i can :)

14. Do you write down story ideas, or just keep them in your head? oh, definitely write them down! i can keep them in my head for a little while but there’s a 95% chance of not remembering them after something distracts me lol

15. Have you ever co-authored a story? kind of? back in high-school my best friend & i used to write stories together. it was all for fun though, nothing that ever made it to a site. i think it would be fun to do a collab with someone though! :D

16. How did you discover AO3? i think a post from tumblr linked me to it & i’d seen a lot of people talking about it, so i gave it a shot.

17. Do you consider yourself to be a popular or famous author in your fandom(s) on AO3? HAH no way lmao 😂😂😂

18. Do you have a nickname or fandom name for your readers? not really. i just think everyone who reads my stuff are wonderful, lovely people ^^

Was there an author who inspired or encouraged you to write? i’ve read basically my whole life and fanfiction led me to writing. there wasn’t a specific story or author though; just the realization that i could also put my own twist on characters/fandoms i enjoyed. i also have an amazing best friend who supported my passion when it first began, so she’s definitely a huge part of why i continued to write.

20. What writing advice would you give to a beginning author? read. a lot. write, even when you don’t want to or think it sucks. as with any kind of art, experience and practice is the only way you’ll get better. be open to constructive-criticism but don’t let the “rules” overwhelm or suffocate your passion. most importantly: write what you like! what you want to read! have fun with it!

21. Do you plot out your stories, or do you just figure it out as you go? oh jeez, it’s a mixture of both? i usually start with a scene in my head that makes me go “i wanna write that” but then i have to find a way to get to the scene? so i either wing it, if the idea was clear enough, or i scribble down an outline to get my base ideas down but leave wiggle room for inspiration during the writing process.

22. Have you ever gotten a bad comment on a story? If so, what did you do? i’m sure i have, back when i first started; i likely commented back that if it wasn’t their preference, there was no need to read the fic or leave a rude comment behind.

23. Is there a certain type of scene that you have a hard time writing? (action, smut, etc..) a c t i o n, definitely. i also get kind of stuck on kisses? idk how much detail to put into them lol

24. What story(s) are you working on now? even tho i’m slow af about it i’m currently working on 2 actively:

a makoharu gift exchange fic!

a klance fic with which i’m taking my first steps into writing for VLD (i’m jumping on the bandwagon where they’re somehow physically stuck together (via alien handcuffs in mine) for a time & grow closer as a result)

i’m always sorta-kinda working on my various iwaoi fics; the nipple-piercing fic is near completion & i’ve recently remembered my single dads au that i hope to work more on soon ^^

25. Do you plan your next project(s) before you finish your current ongoing story(s)? pffftt all the time. the ideas are definitely more forthcoming than the Muse & motivation like to be.

26. Do you have a daily writing goal set for yourself? nope. i tried that for a while but it didn’t stick.

27. Do you think you’ve improved as a writer since you first started? absolutely! although i sometimes have mixed feelings about it, concentrating in creative writing definitely helped me improve in many ways.

28. What is your favorite story that you’ve written? i don’t...really...have one? ^^” i guess i am particularly fond of with a hoarse voice, under the blankets just because i feel i managed to get the atmosphere & imagery i wanted

29. What is your least favorite story that you’ve written? anything from when i first began lol

30. Where do you see yourself (as a writer) in 5 years? hopefully still improving & enjoying what i write (as well as finishing what i start aslkdjfk). i’m not aiming for publication or anything; i just want to write for fun.
