I've been obsessed with this Wammy House Cypher since I came across it on YouTube and I need to share it because it's soooo good.

Here I am with another controversy.
Wammy’s house.
Another Note, from where we get the most of information about the idea behind Wammy’s house, was “written” by Mello. In Near’s words, Mello is a person, who “lets emotions get the best of him”. So, to get the idea of what Wammy’s house really was like, we need to put away everything - Mello’s speculations, opinions and emotions - except pure facts.
And this way, we get very little: children in Wammy’s house were raised as L’s successors; A took his own life; B became a criminal.
I know that most part of fandom considers the concept of Wammy’s house to be wrong and hurtful. I want to show you another side of it.
To understand the concept of Wammy’s house better, we need to take a closer look at Quillsh Wammy.
I don’t believe in Wammy being an evil mastermind, I believe he was a person with a kind heart (Wammy’s house wasn’t the only orphanage he has founded) and his own way of thinking.
He was certainly a career-oriented person - he has achieved very much, and has continued to be very active, posing as Watari, not being just a butler for L, but participating in L’s detective work.
This kind of people find their happiness in fulfilling their potential, and value education and career very much.
I am convinced that this was one of two main reasons for creating the successor’s program: to give brilliant young minds the best possible education and the possibility to build a career as a world’s best detective.
I also see Wammy as a person with pretty much conservative views, and having a strong old-school moral compass; that leads me to believe he viewed L’s work as a good deed, and genuinely wanted it to be continued - that’s the second reason for founding Wammy’s house.
But people like Quillsh Wammy have also a weakness - they are not emotional. Strong willpower, that makes them great achievers, makes them also feel that many things can be achieved with just patience and determination.
That’s one of the reasons why we have A. I don’t know if that was the fault of the successor’s program being too harsh. Although I have some thoughts about A’s personality, and I would like to share them in another post.
But the good thing about Watari as an inventor was that when things didn’t work, he didn’t throw them away. He tried to understand what’s wrong, eliminate it, and make it work.
The evidence of this progress is:
First - we have no tragic stories anymore (Matt and Mello don’t count, the tragedy of their story was their involvement in Kira case, not the successor’s program);
Second, and the most important - Near successfully taking over L’s name.

hello, i hope ur alright. i was wondering what u think Ls relationship to watari is, like how does he view him/how does he feel about him? thank u
I’m alive so that’s a plus.
Sometimes colleges do this thing where they pay kids to take drugs for money or sit in rooms to do social experiments for money. Sometimes those go on overnight, and they’ll be provided a place to sleep and some food so that the scientists running the experiment can see how the subject reacts to different stimuli. If you asked one of these subjects if they trusted the doctors to any meaningful extent, the reaction you would get would probably be one of confusion; they may trust the doctor in the sense that they believe that they will feed them throughout the experiment and in the sense that they probably won’t let them die while they are there, but there would still be a great deal of dissonance on a personal level. Their well-being is only as important to the doctors as its impact on their experiment.
So too with Watari. Watari runs his orphanage mainly to try and 100% the child-rearing thing, to raise the best and most accomplished kid possible and recreate it. His success is based on how successful his charges end up being, and L happens to be a charge so successful that his name is known the world over. L trusts him to the extent that he believes Wammy will stick around to see the experiment through. He trusts him to provide him with food and a computer and help with organizing, but if he was going through any sort of emotional turmoil he would never think to go to Watari about it. He’s a strange man who took him when he was seven and let him eat cake in his room with an unmonitored computer for days at a time, who allowed him to isolate himself from everyone else and spend weeks awake in a blank white room with no bed. Even if it weren’t for the backstory I have thought up for him, he would be able to identify that as neglectful the minute he started looking into laws pertaining to children. Watari does not care about him. Watari would like to see how far L can go on before something happens and wants everything he did on record so that he can recreate his happy accident. Watari believes him to be so expendable that he has two other Ls lined up in the event that he dies; to consider him a father would be exceptionally naive.
In all fairness L minds much. He had a father. His father was okay. He knew it was strange to go with Watari when he did. He would be a bit more weirded out if he was not as cold as he is towards him. He cares about Watari to the extent he cares about him, so it works out.

For @idridian, here's a blast from the past - L and Watari!
I drew so much Death Note fanart back in the day, I didn't need a reference, except to check if Watari wore gloves or not. I've got so many stories built around that fandom - good, bad, and really fuckin' weird. What a time in my life that was!

If I had a nickel for every time I watched an anime where a white haired older male finds a black haired young orphan (who loves sweets and is a detective) and grows an attachment, causing him to decide to drop everything and become this young boys father figure and spend years building a safe place for the young detective to live and for his talents to flourish, I’d have two nickels which isn’t a lot but it’s weird it happened twice

Okay so I feel like I might’ve made a post like this on one of my blogs (either this one or my main idk) but I think it was more about how I think Matt, Mello, and Mei would all be good friends and not like, a detailed thought process about possible quirks for characters. So…
DN/MHA crossover quirks
L’s quirk is that he gets nutrition from everything he eats. Like. His body literally can just survive off of his diet of just sweets. Insert fantasy science bullshit about how his body can convert whatever he gets from his just desserts diet to what his body actually needs.
Watari I have 2 ideas for. Either:
He has some kind of quirk that makes it where he doesn’t need to sleep. My spouse suggested he has to drink a cup of earl gray tea a day and that acts as a sleep replacement. Tbh its just because he’s like L’s butler and since L is an insomniac then Watari is there whenever he needs him.
A quirk like Homing (Snipe’s quirk). He’s already known to be really good with a gun so it just kinda makes sense? Maybe something like perfect aim. Can aim where he needs to perfectly at any target within some sort of range?
I have a couple ideas for Light too.
Death Note. He literally just needs to know someone’s face&name and have access to pen&paper to kill them. Which like. Would be horrifying to Pro Heroes if he became a villain.
Something charisma based. Like a quirk where he can control someone into doing things for him. Effectiveness varies from person to person and relies on a lot of different factors. First ai thought maybe just intelligence? But Mikami is intelligent and it’d probably be super effective on him. So probably also depends on how easily they trust people too.
I also like the idea of him having a mind reading quirk. Not in the sense that he can hear what everyone is thinking, but like being able to single someone out and take a deep dive into whatever they’re thinking or seek out specific info he needs.
Matt’s quirk is definitely some sort of technokenesis quirk. He can control technology to some extend but I’m not sure what. Definitely more like a smart device control, not like a vacuum. But I could see him using this quirk to just like. Mod the shit out of video games with ease. And I feel like he’d have his brain set up like a computer. You ask him something and its like he’s opening up files or tabs in a browser to answer.
I see Near having like, a combo of Monoma’s and Aizawa’s quirks. He can copy a quirk for X amount of minutes, and while he’s copying it the original user can’t use their quirk. But he can’t copy multiple at a time. If he’s copying person A’s quirk and decides to copy person B’s quirk, then person A gets their quirk back.
Okay so thoughts for Mello’s quirk I just talked about in this post, but I’ll reiterate here 😂
Quirkless. I like the idea of Near and Mello being almost a reverse Bakugo&Izuku. Where everyone really thought Mello would have some grand quirk because of his parent’s quirks and Near just looked up to him, only for Near to get this really cool quirk and for Mello to never develop one.
I also like the idea of Mello being similar to Dabi. Having a quirk that isn’t compatible with his body. No specific idea for what this quirk could be or the drawbacks but it just feels right? The idea of Mello having this amazing quirk that he can’t really use, but then watching other people flourish with quirks he thinks are subpar.
The most recent thought, Finger Guns. He can shoot energy out his fingers but he has to be doing the finger gun shape, cock it with all his shots, and make some sort of gun noise (BANG! BOOM! Etc.) its super silly but I really like it. I feel like he’d take himself way too seriously and if someone giggled about it he’d threaten to shoot them.
Okay I had to have my boy Beyond on here too don’t worry.
His eyes. I mean they’re kind of a quirk anyways. 💯 born with them. His whole quirk counseling is them trying to explain to Beyond that he can’t just walk up to people and tell them they’re about to die.
Pain infliction, BUT he feels all the pain he inflicts too. So if he makes someone’s arm hurt he feels it in his arm. Honestly knowing B he’d probably enjoy it.
Misa is another one I’m having trouble with too. A couple ideas:
Spousal unit suggested a quirk like Bakugo’s mom, since Misa is also a model.
I like maybe a low-level charm person quirk. Helps influence people to like&trust her more, and be more willing to do things for her, but not enough to flat out control them.
OR. Or. Some sort of quirk that makes her super resilient? Or like a spidey-sense but only for herself? Tbh I was thinking of how Gelus&Rem kept her safe in DN and thats what made me think of that. If a pot was about to fall on her head she’d just know and side step. Something like that.
I think these are the only people I’ve given any thought to in the DN universe. Like I said, I’ve thought about this a lot 😂😂😂 I would love to write a fanfic in this sort of universe but idk. I’m also super behind on MHA so 😅 enjoy I guess.

Quillsh Wammy has incredible collections of fancy old things.
This idea, of course, comes from these fancy tea sets L drinks from.
I think he has several chess boards and pieces, all handmade and unique. Whenever L is travelling, he always looks for antique shops to buy another one for Watari as a gift.
Tea sets are obvious, and some of them have a history of serving to his ancestors and famous people who were invited to their house. Maybe one of the teacups has a little crack from when Churchill put it down on a table a bit too roughly while having a heated discussion. At least this is what an old gardener told to a cook. The cook then mysteriously volunteered to clean all the old tea sets in the house.
The fanciest collection Wammy has is a collection of vintage cars. This is his guilty pleasure, so he doesn’t like to admit to himself he has this passion. All of the cars he has bought he gave away to museums, but there are three that he just couldn’t give away. They are in their underground garage, and Wammy wouldn’t let nobody near these cars. L knows it after this one time when he asked Wammy if he could park his car next to one of these vintage cars and ended up having a new garage built just for himself.

ahh another watari hater!!! i’ve been meaning to ask u about ur thoughts on that man. i personally despise him for essentially kidnapping a bunch of kids and then just putting them to work in such traumatizing conditions. what i don’t understand is how he found them all and why he’s doing all this. what r u thoughts?
-nile
Hello Nile, fellow Watari hater! Good for you, fighting the good fight.
Personally I feel like as soon as you churn out more than one terrorist/mass murderer that becomes a parenting issue (though I wouldn’t call what Watari does parenting, exactly). I feel like his actions speak for themselves; even if we don’t count the extra reading material as canon the complete absence of parenting we see him do in the absolutely canon work— mainly just leaving a likely traumatized child do whatever he wants with a computer all day and allow him to get himself involved in all the murder stuff— is, if nothing else, wildly neglectful and only made worse by the fact that he was openly looking for his “son”’s replacement when he stopped working, which he apparently assumed was going to be way earlier than he or the orphanage guy.
I think it’s a Danganronpa situation where it’s just “let’s put a bunch of smart kids together and let them do whatever and see what happens” honestly. I’m sure finding the children would be a bit of a challenge, but child prodigies are usually pretty easy to pick apart from normal kids, luck exists, and in the cases of kids like A and B and probably Mello you can make any kid exceptional if you pressure them enough. Even if you aren’t exceptional being surrounded by a lot of kids who are and are always competing for attention is good motivation to hone your skills. Children seek validation, after all; if you can only get validation by having a letter name and being awesome you change your name and figure something out if you don’t want to be left in the dust. We’ve seen how the kids at Wammy house are encouraged to look up to L; get them young enough and get a good enough example and they make it or break it. Watari’s an inventor first and foremost, after all; it only makes sense for him to apply the scientific method to child rearing.
