06/19/07, Tuesday the day Dazai Osamu turned 16, a "sweet" sixteen indeed. The air was humid and the gasses seeping in between the damp roads made it much worse, not the best way to start the day but also not the worst.

Surely those who were acquainted with the mafia, be it a child or elder neither receives lavish gifts nor extravagant parties on their birthdays. This day wasn't any different.

Today, Ougai Mori, former underground doctor, now mafia boss asked Dazai and Chuuya to report to his office.

"Dazai-kun, Chuuya-kun, I'm glad you've arrived." Mori spoke nonchalantly. The room's atmosphere was neither tense nor relaxed. Dazai and Chuuya silently waited for the boss' orders. "I need you both to go around Yokohama to find this man." Mori spoke with the same nonchalant tone. He slid a file containing the mystery man's photos on his desk towards Dazai and Chuuya. Dazai then gently took the file as he kept a look of indifference plastered on his face as he skimmed through the file, with Chuuya peeking over his shoulder.

"He's been snooping around our business for a while but he hasn't caused much of a problem until yesterday—I'm afraid he's taken the black lizard. I'm sure the both of you now understand how much of a serious threat this man truly is." Mori faux sympathetic expression on his face as he spoke calmly. "Understood" Dazai and Chuuya spoke in unison. They politely bowed then departed.

"Hey! Show me the damn file!!" Chuuya exclaimed as they left Mori's office. Dazai waved the file up high while teasing Chuuya for his height. "Maybe if you drank some milk you could've had the file a while ago." Dazai retorted with an innocent smile on his face. "Why you—!" Woosh~ Chuuya used his ability to jump high enough to kick the file out of Dazai's grubby hands. Chuuya caught the file in a flash "Imagine having to use your ability to take a measly file!" Dazai laughed hysterically. "I might as well pound your face onto the ground while I'm at it!!" Chuuya exclaimed aggressively, Dazai only laughed harder as he saw his partner's reaction. "Quit laughing will you?!" Chuuya huffed in annoyance as he crossed his arms. "Alright alright, if it makes the pipsqueak happy." Dazai said with a teasing smile. Chuuya scowled and looked away knowing there was no real use talking to him.

The duo walked through the alleyway where the black lizard was last seen. Not even Hirotsu had survived the attack, they were all just gone. "This mystery man definitely had an accomplice, there's no way that he could've taken everyone.. unless— Dazai hesitated to speak for a second —he's an ability user." Dazai spoke with a hint of curiosity and maybe just a pinch of sympathy for the lost. "A powerful ability user at that." Chuuya spoke as he noticed the mess at the back end of the alleyway. "Seems like he put up a fight." Chuuya spoke, almost excitedly. Dazai found the hint of excitement in his voice amusing.

Suddenly a black figure ran through the winds. Dazai and Chuuya immediately respond by going after the black figure but alas the figure disappeared. Dazai and Chuuya were left staring at a wall in another alley. "Well that's enough work for now!" Dazai happily exclaimed. "What?! We haven't even caught the guy!" Chuuya replied back by exclaiming in confusion. Dazai shrugged "I can't work on an empty stomach hat rack." Dazai spoke lazily as they walked. "Hat rack?! What's that supposed to mean?!" Chuuya angrily yelled, Dazai just shrugged it off as he lazily walked into a diner. They both sat onto a booth in the diner. Dazai ordered a bunch of different snacks. Chuuya sighed as Dazai ordered. "See? Isn't this better?" Dazai smugly spoke as the food arrived, Chuuya responded with a grunt but he couldn't deny his hunger.

Dazai ate with a smile while Chuuya looked annoyed but still ate. "Chuuya-kun the black figure earlier and the mystery man have the same approximate size and build. He may be the one behind it all but I'm positive he has his allies!" Dazai shared his thoughts as they ate. Chuuya eagerly listened to Dazai, Dazai was annoying but Chuuya had to admit, he was intelligent. "You're right." Chuuya nodded as he verbalized his agreement. "Of course I am!" Dazai confidently exclaimed, this made Chuuya fume but he didn't let his temper get the best of him.

As they ate and conversed the black figure tapped on the window of the booth. Dazai and Chuuya immediately got up to chase the figure but before that Chuuya threw a stack of yen on the table where they sat as payment.

They ran after the figure through the streets of Yokohama. The figure lead them to an abandoned building then mysteriously disappeared once again. The duo caught their breaths and Chuuya sighed "Who the hell is that guy?!" He snarled. Chuuya was getting tired of this cat and mouse game. He wanted to get this over with. Dazai shrugged it off then he walked over to Chuuya to come up with a plan. They'll be using Dazai as bait for the figure so that Chuuya could catch them.

Dazai stood in the middle of the sidewalk, unarmed and seemingly normal— then the figure showed up. The figure picked Dazai up swiftly and Chuuya chased after them. Oddly the figure was running back to the Port Mafia. The figure put Dazai down as they reached the building. Chuuya had also calmed down, revealing the surprise. "Happy birthday Dazai-kun!!" Dazai's close colleagues yelled happily. There was cake, crab legs, and an assortment of food. Dazai had a big smile on his face as everyone greeted him. The black lizard was safe, not a scratch on Hirotsu's face.

Chuuya walked up to Dazai then spoke smugly "I can't believe the great Dazai Osamu didn't predict the surprise." he teased. Dazai then raised an eyebrow then smiled confidently "Oh Chuuya-kun, I knew." Dazai replied. "What?! So why did you play along?!" Chuuya asked in disbelief, he was a bit disappointed. "I didn't want to ruin the surprise!" Dazai happily spoke. "Tsk! You bastard!" Chuuya retorted in annoyance.

It was now time to blow out he candles. "Dazai-kun come here, we prepared a cake for you!" Mori called out with a soft smile, a rare sight to see. The cake's exterior design was extremely deformed, not that it was inedible. "Elise and Yumeno decorated it just for you!" Mori added with a happy tone. They lit the candles and sang 'Happy birthday' "Happy birthday dear Dazai... Happy birthday to— you!!" Everyone clapped as Dazai blew the candles. "I wish Chuuya-kun will grow up to be as tall as I am!" Dazai narrowed his eyes at Chuuya with a teasing, childish smile. "You're not supposed to say it out loud dumbass!!" Chuuya exclaimed in annoyance. "Oh right!— Dazai raised his index finger and looked up as if he just remembered something —it won't come true if I say it out loud, right! Well, better luck next year Chuuya-kun!" Dazai teased as Chuuya furrowed his eyebrows."

Full disclosure this is my first time actually posting and finishing a fanfic, I just wanted to do something for Dazai's birthday he's been my favorite character for 3 years now. I just wanted Mori to have good intentions for him here please, just this once. I love him (Dazai) so much and I love soukoku, happy birthday to Dazai Osamu (even if he's just a fictional man that I've spent too much time and money on) <3
