This ask game

sage ⇢ what ‘medium’ of art (poetry, music, fiction, paintings, statues etc.) is the most touching to you? why do you think that is? AND cactus ⇢ something you’re currently learning (about)? These questions r linked for me right now because I’m learning about art!

There are two mediums of art that are really getting to me recently.

Sculpture and contemporary art—specifically unassuming pieces that BREAK YOUR HEART upon closer inspection

For example this is a piece by Félix González-Torres. I want you to look at it. I want you to think about it. I want you to judge it. then read what I have to say.

He created this piece to cope with his partners aids diagnosis. I don’t remember if it was before or after he lost the love of his life, but the concept is these clocks are in perfect sync. But, as time passes, one clock will eventually slow down. The lovers falling more and more out of sync until eventually one clock stops.

But what Fèlix has to say about it is this:

“Don't be afraid of the clocks, they are our time, the time has been so generous to us. We imprinted time with the sweet taste of victory. We conquered fate by meeting at a certain time in a certain space. We are a product of the time, therefore we give back credit were it is due: time. We are synchronized, now forever. I love you.”

Anyways media literacy is important and that’s what is so special about modern contemporary art. You have to spend time with these pieces and get to know their stories. They are not about showing off technical skill, they are about what humanity has to offer.

Another piece that I’ve been learning about I found out about through This TikTok and it just!!! I can’t believe the disrespect of those gals going around the museum like that. You don’t know what those pieces mean to people!!! You have no clue what they represent!!! Ugh!!

LISTEN THE THING IS

The thing is Neal Caffery is a con man but he also has such a big heart and cares about the people in his life—scratch that he cares about LIFE.

Sure, he wanted a nice place to stay so he got to know June in the thrift shop. But also he’d fucking die for her if she was threatened. Same it’s Elizabeth when she’s kidnapped. No questions asked he gave up the treasure. And he doesn’t do these things painlessly. He is always looking for a loophole or a way through a situation without getting into trouble BUT the second peoples lives or well being are at risk he is there in the danger with them trying to get them out & get them safe.

Season 5 Neal getting knowingly blackmailed to help Peter!!! Honestly I know it’s in character for Peter to get mad about it but Neal Is Right!!

Peter believes in the system and Neal knows it’s corrupt and unfair. That’s where they will always have conflict, and I know this, but also cops r bad Peter calm down.

Wait I’ve never seen the first part of this scene before?? Neal’s sweet little face lights up when he realizes why Peter is there! And Peter bringing a wine bottle is…almost romantic (even platonically)? They are soulmates! MY HEART! 🥹

I cannot believe I haven’t seen the extended pilot of White Collar yet! Lol what kind of fan am I 😂

I guess I know what I’ll be watching tonight 😏

Sunshine. I mean. So basic, but when I lived in Southern California, my mood significantly improved because it was just so sunny and beautiful EVERY DAY 🤩

Reading! I just love it. I love escaping into another world, but what I love most of all is viewing someone else's perspective/their soul 🥺 I believe by reading we can truly get a glimpse of someone else's human experience and that's beautiful.

Theatre. Doing theatre really makes me so happy. Everything about it: from learning the music and lines, rehearsing with the cast, wearing costumes, learning your routes backstage, getting to know the cast, getting to play another person on stage by making yourself more vulnerable---it just makes me giddy

exercising outside (when it's comfortable---lol don't ask me to hike in the snow pls).

genuinely connecting with other humans---I really love this. Now, I can be incredibly socially anxious so I am really a walking contradiction LOL 😂

Tease Tidbit Tuesday

Here's a tidbit of a one-shot WIP I am working on:

(I was going to share the angsty first part of the fic, but HEY we all need some fluff so here's a tidbit of the fluffy latter portion of the fic)

“So what’s this all about?” Peter asked as they walked through Central Park. 

Sunlight glimmered through the fresh green leaves, dappling the walkways and kissing their cheeks. Peter’s gait was lighter, his scowl softer, and his posture more relaxed (changing into the jeans and Yankee’s t-shirt probably helped with that) then it had been in the office an hour ago.

Neal flashed a smile, “I’ve realized there are things I don’t know how to do…and I’d like you to teach me.” 

Peter blinked, “Neal Caffrey is admitting there are things he can’t do…” a smug smile spread on Peter’s lips, “Never thought I’d see the day.” 

They stopped in a rolling field, New York’s skyscrapers stark against the clear sky. Neal unzipped the back and pulled out two gloves and a baseball. 

“Oh come on, you know how to—”

Neal’s eyes grew dark, “But, I don’t, Peter.”

Neal tried to remember, to stretch his brain back to his three-year old self, to the time he actually had a father, but there was nothing. No father to teach him to play catch, to go camping with, to do any of those dad things that he longed for so deeply. Sure, Neal could throw a ball, but that wasn’t the point of this outing. 

Peter read between the lines and sprung into action, showing Neal how to hold the ball, how to find the most comfortable grip with the glove, how to roll his fingers over the ball as it left his hand, following through with a graceful flourish.

And Neal was magnificent, taking naturally to the sport as he did everything else. In a half hour, they were running across the field, throwing to each other. The wind whipped in Peter’s hair, lifting his heart higher than he ever dreamed.

Ofc you have to read the whole fic to find out WHY Neal is doing this wholesome outing FOR Peter (and himself...let's just be honest!)...and that's the angsty part 😅

I’m really upset about how short David Siegel’s time in white collar is because he is such a catalyst for Neal’s character growth. Like, I honestly think the arc Neal goes on all the way to (SPOILERS)

Faking his death at the end is because he met Siegel. I think he saw where they came from—which is two very different reasons—and saw that he is meant to be forging his own path in life. I think Siegel actually gets him to think about what he wants in life. And thus the homoerotic tension between them (at least in my opinion). Like you have these two heartbroken people who are trying to get back on their feet assigned to work together while being the thing the other fears most—a man from nothing becoming a criminal for the thrill, a man from everything becoming a lawman because he’s seen too much.

I just. they should have had more time. They should have seen each other grow a little more.

And the show jumps ahead in time and they just move on…so like…dang man T^T
