Believe in Me

Warnings: captivity, restraints, torture, bruises, blood, rescue, unconsciousness, caretaker and whumpee, hurt/aftermath

"Believe in me," Caretaker had shouted as Whumper dragged Whumpee away, "I will find you. I will free you. Believe in me, Whumpee!"

Whumpee couldn't remember how long ago that was. They just knew it was a long time ago. And Whumper had been hurting them for a long time. But they had to hang on. They believed in Caretaker. Caretaker would get them out of here.

"Think you're so tough," Whumper hissed as they struck Whumpee's bruised cheek.

Whumpee struggled to keep their footing, struggled to keep from swinging in the standing cuffs. They couldn't fall down again. It hurt so much.

Whumper struck Whumpee once more. Whumpee felt their skin split and blood pour from above their eyebrow. They lost their footing and began to swing. "PLEASE!" They shrieked as they swung.

"This can all stop if you just give up. Give up hope, Whumpee. It won't be so terrible. I promise. I can be just as kind as Caretaker."

Whumpee didn't remember much after that. The world was hazy. They knew Whumper kept hitting them. Hit them until the world went black. When they came to, they were on their side, shackled to the wall. At least Whumper hadn't left them hanging.

Whumpee didn't know why they woke. It was dark and their body hurt. They wanted nothing more than to close their eyes and let oblivion claim them once again.

"None of that, Whumpee. Keep your eyes open."

Whumpee's heart skipped a beat. "C-C-Caretaker?" They dared to hope.

"The one and only," Caretaker gave Whumpee's shoulder a squeeze as they finished picking the locks on Whumpee's cuffs.

"You're here," Whumpee sobbed. They started to sit up, but as the room began to spin, they thought the better of it.

Caretaker wrapped their arms around Whumpee's shoulders. "Of course I am. I promised you. I told you I would free you."

Whumpee sagged with relief, suddenly the days and days of torture weighing so heavily on their body. Caretaker was here. Caretaker had them. They were safe. They were free. "Th-Thank you," Whumpee whispered. Their eyelids felt so heavy. But they were safe. It was ok to sink into oblivion. Caretaker had them.

"Whumpee, keep your eyes open. Please stay awake. Whumpee!" Caretaker's voice was sharp, but so distant.

Whumpee wanted to reply. Wanted to fight to keep their eyes open. But they were so tired. They believed in Caretaker and Caretaker was here. They believed Caretaker would set them free. And with that final thought, Whumpee let the darkness claim them.

Did this like, way earlier today and utterly hated the outcome of it but hours later, I kinda like it? LMAOO Outfit and colours FOR the outfit are... subpar, but overall, I really quite enjoy this piece >:33!! I also have to admit, drawing ghost Mettaton I think is my new favourite thing

And a second full week of procrastinating on the posts I'm trying to do daily. Once again I can really only reconstruct what the meals (probably) were.

May 28 - Baked a loaf of Italian herb bread. Still just me for supper; my old standby of tuna and rice with green peas.

May 29 - brother back from his fishing trip, but still just making a meal for myself; made tuna salad sandwiches.

May 30 - filleted the fish brother brought home yesterday, most went into the freezer. Floured and fried some in butter for supper, along with pan fries and mixed veg. That's three days in a row of fish since I wasn't really thinking ahead. Or wait, no, four days since I did a fish burger for lunch the day prior.

May 31 - mild Italian sausages, sour cream mashed potatoes, green peas, and green beans.

June 1 - Chili and rice.

June 2 - baked a loaf of black bread with anise seeds. Started in on my monthly backups. Did chicken burgers and a barley salad for supper.

Excerpt from chapter 10:

"How are you feeling?" Fringilla asks when Cahir wakes up late the next morning. He sits up with a grunt and gazes around bleary-eyed and disoriented.

"Um - okay, I suppose," he says after a moment of hesitation.

"Cahir, don't try to fool me," Fringilla reprimands. "You look far from okay. Actually, you look awful. It's okay just to say 'I'm not okay', you know."

Cahir sighs. Of course, Fringilla would not simply accept his answer and drop the subject. He feels pretty awful, too, whacked, knackered, and confused. He knows who and where he is and the dull ache in his shoulder and hand vaguely remind him of why, but otherwise his mind seems to have gone blank, like filled with wool instead of conscious thought.

"What - What happened to me?" he asks, hating how embarrassingly shaky and pathetic his voice sounds.

"You don't remember?" Fringilla raises her eyebrows. "You were having a bad migraine, Cahir," she then explains. "Has it passed? Or do you need more of Francesca's potion?"

He shakes his head.

"No, I'm fine." It is true, too. His head does not throb or ache. Perhaps this brain-fog and grogginess are aftereffects of the potion? If it helped with his migraine, it must have been some extremely potent stuff. No wonder he feels like he is only semi-awake and all run down.

"Prove it." With an inviting smile, Fringilla holds a bowl of barley gruel out to him. Instead of taking it, though, Cahir stares at her. 'Prove it', those were Emhyr's words before, before— Suddenly, it is all back again, the Cintrean guest room, his nervousness, the taste of wine on his lips, the expression of disbelief on Gallatin's face after he stabbed him in the throat with his dagger, the horrible, gurgling sounds his dying friend made, trying in vain to breathe while choking on his own blood, the huge puddle of blood on the tiles, the blood on his blade, on his hands. He starts to tremble.

"Shit, Cahir, that's what Emhyr said to you. You told me." Fringilla puts the bowl down and takes her friend's hand in hers. He flinches at the touch.

"It's me, Fringilla, not Emhyr," she says, giving his hand a firm squeeze. "Cahir, look at me!"

He blinks repeatedly. Then he takes a shaky breath an nods.

"I'm so stupid. I didn't want to remind you of him. I'm so sorry, Cahir," Fringilla apologises.

"No, no, it's - it's not your fault." He swallows. "I'm sorry, I'm such a mess. I thought that I was getting better,when we were preparing for the coup." He swallows yet again. "I - I need to do something, Fringilla, or I'll be going crazy."

In the End

Warnings: forced to watch, captivity, wounds, blood, torture, injury, failed escape attempt, cage

Caretaker frantically tried to squeeze through the bars. They had to get to Whumpee. They had to get Whumper to stop. And to get Whumpee out of there.

Caretaker had tried and failed to get Whumpee out of there several days ago. They had tried so hard. And failed so miserably.

Whumper had caught the two of them days ago. Caught them and threw them in this cage. And though Caretaker had tried to hide Whumpee behind them, tried to keep them out of harm’s way, Whumper only had eyes for Whumpee.

Eyes and hands.

They had tortured Whumpee day in and day out for the last several days. Punching Whumpee. Kicking Whumpee. Cutting Whumpee. And Caretaker was powerless to stop it.

They had tried after the first few days to find a way out of the cage. Whumpee had a wound on their side that was still oozing, and Caretaker didn’t like it. They weren’t healing fast enough and Caretaker knew that Whumpee needed a hospital or they wouldn’t last much longer.

Which is why when they failed to escape, failed to creep out of the room with the cage, Caretaker felt completely defeated. They felt defeated as Whumper dragged them kicking and screaming back to the cage. They felt defeated as Whumper triple locked the cage, promising Caretaker that there was no way to escape any more. And they felt utterly defeated as Whumper dragged a weak and trembling Whumpee back to the room.

That was days ago. Whumper had been unrelenting in their torture of Whumpee since then. Whumper continued with their torture of Whumpee, and though they did different things to Whumpee each time they came in, they always made sure to re-open the wound on Whumpee’s side.

Whumpee’s cries and screams became weaker and weaker with each subsequent torture session. Their struggling growing less and less. Until this last session, they barely moved. Could barely keep their eyes open. Caretaker watched in horror as Whumper stabbed a blade into the wound in Whumpee’s side and Whumpee gave a weak cry before going terribly still.

Caretaker knew they had to get Whumpee out of there. They waited until Whumper, wiping their bloodied hands on their trousers, left. “Whumpee!” Caretaker called frantically.

But Whumpee didn’t respond. They lay in the growing pool of blood. They were silent and still.

“Hang on, Whumpee, hang on. I’ll get you out of here. I promise! I won’t let this be it!” Caretaker banged on the bars in frustration. They couldn’t fail Whumpee again. Couldn’t let them die here like this. Caretaker let out a frustrated growl as they continued to try and press through the bars.

And all the while, Whumpee lay there. Competely silent and still.

Hello! I am here once again. While I am aware that October has passed I still wanted to share the prompts I have finished for rosemary month. These were finished but because of irl stuff its only now that I’m posting/sharing them. Despite the setbacks, it’s been a blast getting to create so much rosemary content and I am pleased to have gotten through all the prompts.
