I'm so happy that Percy Jackson is canonically not a skater or a stereotypical guy because he hasn't thought about skating in almost 20 irl years and 5/6 in-universe ones and finds trying to act like what people expect men to be a burden he forces on himself to fit in but is much happier when he just lets himself be Percy, thinks women are way better than men and insults multiple male characters for being traditionally masculine due to thinking it makes them annoying and unappealing but is also canonically a punk because he grew up poor so he hates rich people and never wants to become one, respects all minorities equally and is one himself as an mentally ill and adhd autistic, has been beating up bullies from a young age which escalated into him hating every kind of abuser with no expections and taking direct action, loves rock music, knows gender norms and society's romantic ideals are bullshit,is anti-authority,adopted a young gay boy and a darkskin black girl as his younger siblings and pseudo-kids because their moms are dead and their dad treats them badly and has no temptation for more power so he'd never become a poser. We're so lucky to have right, please appreciate him more✨️

Book recommendations for Black Women
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
If you’re a black woman I highly recommend reading these books. All of the books listed can change your mindset/life drastically if you apply their advice to your day-to-day life 🤍
(most of the books listed were written by a BW so if you could buy them that would be great but for those who are on a budget you might be able to find some of the books listed here: Link )
Top Starter Books
“Black woman you’re f*cked” by A. Maddie Dee (Amazon)
- This book may be triggering for some. Especially for those who have trouble with accountability when it comes to the black community, but it can be an eye-opener if you push through it. The author takes her time breaking EVERYTHING down and promotes self-perseveration. Honestly summarizing this book won’t do it any justice, just know it's a MUST-READ.
“The black girls guide to Financial freedom” by Paris Woods (Amazon)
-  I love this book and I am not exaggerating when I say this guide gives you a step by step instructions on how to achieve financial freedom. You’ll learn how to avoid debt, build your wealth, invest, etc. The book is easy to understand it serves its purpose.
“The self care prescription” by Robyn L. Gobin  (Amazon)
-  Our mental health is really important. If you aren’t ready for therapy yet, don’t know how to start prioritizing your mental health, or just need some tips this book can be a great resource. Written by a black woman: Robyn L. Gobin, Ph.D. a licensed psychologist.
“F*ck that cape” by Jennifer Arnise (Amazon)
-  If you have trouble putting yourself first and need help working on your self-esteem this book will assist you with all of those issues, and hopefully, help you realize you don’t have to play captain save a hoe with everyone in your life.
“The sojourner’s passport” by Khadija Nassif (Amazon)
- Do you want to see a change in your life? Do you need dating advice? Like actual dating advice that takes into account the current state of the black community. Well, look no further, this book will address every concern you can have and ways you can get your dream life. (Heads up this book is catered to / for DARKSKIN BW)
“The smart girl’s guide to getting what you want” by Mary Hartley (Amazon)
- Do I really need to explain? It’s pretty self explanatory right?
“Stop wearing the pants” by Chloe (Amazon)
- For those who want a life of leisure, and are interested in hypergamy and femininity this book will answer all of your questions regarding the lifestyle. It’ll help clear up any confusion you may have about the topic and the purpose of hypergamy.
“How to ask a man for money” by Ava Venus (Amazon)
- Men are gonna be a part of your life (even if you aren’t attracted to them), so it’s best that you learn right now 👀 closed mouths don’t get fed 🤐
Bonus Books
“Difficult Mothers Adult Daughters” by Karen C. L. Anderson (Amazon)
- If you didn’t have the best relationship with your mother growing up this book is a godsend. It’ll  help you navigate your relationship with your mom and show you ways to heal from your past. (there is also a journal you can use with this book. link)
“No Thanks” by Keturah Kendrick (Amazon)
- If you wanna hear more about ditching the cape but from another author No Thanks gives you that perspective.
“The Black girl’s guide to being blissfully feminine” by Candice Adewole (Amazon)
- Please don’t be turned away by the title. It’s none of that YouTube femininity coach bullsh!t. The black girl's guide contains regular advice on how to take care of yourself mentally and physically. While getting in touch with yourself whether it's through traveling, developing your skills, learning about your culture, etc. Highly recommend it if you want a bit of guidance. It also has a little bit of financial advice.
I hope these books help y’all through this journey called life 🤍

People literally falling in and giving in to an author's Great Replacement Theory to defend a chapter of a fucking mid ass webtoon where a character who is literally a blackface caricature is "Schooled" by saying that black students and Blasian students in SOUTH KOREA, a place where being mixed or darkskinned makes you unilaterally oppressed, are privileged, racist, and the MAJORITY! And then it ends with the character in question being called a racial slur and handcuffed by a Wasian teacher. I'm sick to my stomach. This is insane.
In a series where a minor antagonist was a "feminist" who was evil because she cared too much about being gender neutral. Fuck everyone. Genuinely. And one more thing. A racial majority/dominant race in a country can have Great Replacement theories, it's not just white Americans. This wasn't an accidental "Whoops this person thought that this was to talk about genuine racism against ALL people" because the truth of the matter is no... this was a person who was a part of a dominant culture, specifically crafting a narrative meant to further oppress and crush the spirits of Black people in SK by painting their oppression as revenge.

lily is a bad mother in wywm and guess what… YOU DON'T NEED TO READ IT. that doesn't make the fanfic problematic and the feminization of Regulus is ridiculous because first of all there's nothing wrong with that!!
and they want to cancel atyd because Dorcas is lightskin or white (I don't remember) and there are so many people who don't know that she is canonically darksin. and atyd was written in 2017 even fewer people knew about it. there are people who know she is black, but not darkskin. because her official art is not even on the website anymore and in the books it was never mentioned. and i saw them want to cancel atyd too because Dorcas is straight and ??????? why couldn't she be? its a hc
the problem is that they have those who will like and rt and they feel that they are so right because of that
it’s so like… ugh why are thoughts so hard to articulate sometimes? like, i’m not saying we shouldn’t take a look at things that are genuinely racist/homophobic/sexist/transphobic in fics and have a genuine conversation about those things, because we absolutely should. but straight up attacking an author and trying to cancel them for these things is not the way to do it. screaming at the top of your lungs on twitter that this author is clearly a racist is not how you fix the actual problem.
an author used a slur. listen, not good. but she apologized! she’s educating herself and sharing that education with other people! that’s how someone is supposed to react in that situation. but they’ll never be happy with that. so that’s it? someone makes a mistake and that means they’re inherently evil with no way to learn from their mistake and become a better person? the point of pointing out that something is wrong is to create a change. it’s to help someone see that what they’ve done is wrong and help them become better. i think history has proven that chasing people with pitch forks doesn’t actually change anything.
the argument that the feminization of regulus is problematic is absurd. if a story has 3 gay characters, and every single one of them is extremely feminine, i can see you saying, hmmmm i dunno about that, seems like you might be stereotyping gay people. but again that’s a calm conversation we should be having instead of lighting torches. when there are several gay characters in the story and only one of them is extremely feminine, that’s not stereotyping, that’s your character having a personality. men are allowed to be feminine, women are allowed to be masculine, and i really feel like in the year of our lord 2022, we should all fucking know that by now.

They tried to do the same with Iris from Terms and Conditions, it literally mentioned that she’s DARKSKIN but they kept casting her a lightskin, (Specifically I pictured her as Ryan Destiny) but y’know the ✋🏻 can’t stand a POC specifically a black women the main character of their favorite books
finally met a person who visualized ryan destiny as iris. i also visualized jasmine tookes also considering the amount of times people use sis wedding photos for aesthetic photos for terms & conditions. i have noticed people do that a lot with creating aesthetic edits for novels. it ain’t that hard to find some dark skinned or brown skinned ladies for characters. especially when the author specifically state that they’re dark skinned! that’s one thing about my novels i plan on publishing…readers will know that the female leads are dark skinned. i will literally imprint it on the back of their eyelids cause if i open social media and you using damn zendaya photos as aesthetic for my novel, imma scream 😭

Just wanted to say your additions to the TF racism post were so succinct and spot one, I have had SO Many discussions with my friends about all the different micro and macroaggressions in both humanization designs and unsavory stereotypical character portrayals in TFs. it feels good to see more people (especially fellow POC) talking about it because theres NO reason ppl should have such awful reading comp and thought processes as 'we GOTTA portray the Decepticons as BIPOC bc they were oppressed in some continuities' while just. Ignoring how utterly awful that is or 'Im gonna hypersexualize this character and Also theyre darkskinned with prominent nonwhite features Its Fine :)' like HELLO?? Its not just a TF thing sadly, but because of how malleable robots are, it can be so blatant
Thank you so much and I'm so happy that you resonated with it! Ive actually been afraid to have these discussions (especially tag them) so when I saw one it made me happy. And knowing that we all relate and understand makes me feel so much better.
It's like, at first i didn't mind that much when i saw poc decepticons, but the reasons and the portrayals are just so bad. like, it's as if people don't understand their own biasis against poc - especially dark skinned poc and black folks - and it shows in their writing. so many artist just lean on streotypes and fetishizations and it's super SUPER prominent in fan art. especially with characters like megatron and starscream.
i totally agree - it's not just a tf thing, but i always felt for how 'progress' this fandom is, especially regarding queerness, they'd be less racist. but i suppose that isn't quite the case. and ever time i see a nonblack author draw black megatron and do it in such a disrespectful and harmful way i am INSTANTLY reminded. i wish there could be more room to talk about it in a more positive light, but i feel that whenever poc speak up, we get branded as wanting to start fandom drama, and that's just not the case.
and it's surprising because most racist depictions of the transformers are in queer transformers spaces
Thank you so much tho for sending this <3!

Was reading through the great discussions about colorism and I thought of how it seems like it's more "acceptable" to see darker skinned men (whether or not they're moc or tanned white) in media. Its not a good thing, it's based off antiblack and fetishistic stereotypes, but it creates the dynamic that authors (white ones especially) want to make which is innocent woman and a hypermasculine man. Sadly I see this in poc media too :/ I'm Filipino and in local media, men are allowed to be darker while actresses are pressured to lighten their skin if they want lead roles. It's this ugly double edged sword.
Yes! This is because darker skin is viewed as more masculine, while paler skin is seen as more feminine, hence white people always accusing darkskin and especially Black women of secretly being men (Serena Williams and Michele Obama, to name a few notable examples of women who've been accused of being men despite literally HAVING CHILDREN). And although I'm not East Asian so I'm no expert to discuss this, the opposite treatment seems to be true for East Asian men--they're emasculated and fetishized.
So you'll see men of color played by actors of every shade in media, but women of color often don't even pass the paper bag test.

Ppl are still mad about GM actors being in Bridgerton? It’s not like the author is involved with show. If she was then there’s a huge chance GM actors wouldn’t be in it at all. Not after what she said, and that was recent. Then it would be another boring and unrealistic period drama full of yt ppl. I can guarantee you that it wouldn’t be as popular either. A few things that are a problem though:
1. Darkskin characters not really being there. They were barely there in season 1. While season 2 was far better I would like to see more darkskin main characters. Simone was lovely and did amazing as Kate. It was amazing seeing her on screen. Do more of that.
2. Uh can we get another interracial couple that doesn’t include a yt person? It’s boring to be honest. It feels overdone. Like I know it’s the Bridgerton’s but good lord.
3. Book covers. A good bit books do not need their covers changed simply because they get a movie/show adaptation. Putting Rege and Simone on the covers? That’s simply baiting ppl, especially if they don’t know about the books and wish to read them when they do learn about them. Simon nor Kate are GM in the books. At all. Those books are full of yt ppl cuz the author claimed Black characters and other characters of color basically didn’t “fit” in her world. The main offenders when it comes to this: Barnes & Noble.

Apocalypse, Part Five

Tumblr media Tumblr media
When I woke up, I was in bed.
It felt wrong somehow. The dream had felt realer than being in my body.
Still, I had a split second of relief before I realized this wasn’t my bed. It was folksier, and the walls were wood. A polished-oak table stood to my left. The sound of crackling filled the air, and I could see the orange glow of a fireplace.
I raised a hand to my head. It was bandaged.
I swung my legs out from underneath a mess of quilts and stared down at myself, an assemblage of thin lines and scrapes and bruises. I curled my toes against the hardwood floor.
I stood. The world teetered around me, but I didn’t fall.
“You’re strong,” a voice said.
I glanced up. A man stood in the doorway, darkskin, his long dreadlocked hair tied back. He was holding a bowl of soup in one hand and a heavy book in the other.
I tensed. Black men were like religious figures to me— I was supposed to be one of them, but never quite figured out how.
The man put the bowl down on the table and settled into a chair beside the fireplace with a groan.
“Most people,” he said, flicking open the book, “wouldn’t be able to stand after a head wound like that.”
I lifted a hand to my bandages. I didn’t feel strong: I felt sick, and weak, and lesser in the presence of him, the way he filled up the room without looking.
“You read Jemison?” the man asked.
“What?”
“N.K. Jemison. Black fantasy author. Won the Hugo three times. I read you a little while you were asleep. Almost wish you’d stayed gone longer— could’ve got to a good part, then.”
I swayed, unsteady. “No.”
The man huffed. “Thought so. You seemed to soak it in. Like you were hungry.”
He cracked a smile.
“But you were asleep,” he continued, “so that might’ve just been my wanting-so.”
I sat down on the edge of the bed, put a hand to my head.
“I was on the river,” I said, trying to piece together how I’d ended up here. “The demon-“
“It dropped you off. They do that. Inscrutable bastards.” He considered me with dark, liquid eyes. “They normally have a reason for it— or whatever passes for a reason in their way of thinking. I think—“
He fell silent, went back to the book.
The quiet held in the air, shimmering.
I coughed into my sleeve.
The man looked at me. “Soup’s for you. Book was, too- I was gonna read to you again. The Fifth Season. It’s good.”
I shuffled over to the table. There was a deep anger welling within me, a frustration. I was sick of not knowing. I remembered the dream: knowledge hit like a lightning bolt.
“You’re my dad,” I said.
His hands froze on the book’s spine, cradling it.
“You’re him,” I said to the air, and knew it was true. “The demon- no. It had a name. Honor-bound blood on an empty field protecting the innocent. It brought me to you because you’re my dad.”
He lowered the book to his lap. He was facing away, not looking at me.
“I knew you’d be smart,” he said to the air. “Don’t know what it costs, to be smart.”
He stopped talking, and his head tilted down. He flipped through the pages of the book with one hand.
“How can I face you now?” he asked the air. “I’ve been waiting. Twenty-three years I’ve been waiting. I was gonna walk in, tell you all about myself, about your mom. How can I do that now? Son dropped at my feet half-dead. Thought maybe you were. Thought you came to me too late.”
He let the book fall dead in his lap.
“I loved you,” he said. “I need you to know that. Always.”
I felt something inside me opening, like a heart I never knew was there, or an eye.
I stood up, swaying, almost tipping over the bowl of soup. He swiveled in shock at the sound.
I took one step towards him, then another. He sat there and watched me. There was something deep and dark in his eyes, like an open wound.
When I reached him I didn’t ask. I wrapped my arms around him and held him there.
He tensed for a moment, then seemed to melt into the embrace.
“Should’ve just hit me,” he said, voice choked. “Would’ve been easier.”
I didn’t say anything at all.
When the moment passed I stood back up and got the soup from the table. I sat down next to the fireplace, a little distance from him, and spooned the broth into my mouth. The dizziness made me sick.
I stuck out my hand, then hesitated.
“I don’t remember my name,” I said.
He smiled.
“That’s okay,” he said, reaching out to shake. “I hate mine. Call me Jed.”
I pulled my hand back in my lap and held it there, like if I moved too much the feeling of the handshake would vanish, and so would he, and the house and the forest all in one.
“I feel like I have a thousand questions and none of them will come up,” I said.
Jed waved a hand. “Plenty of time for questions around here. We have a garden, chickens, and books. Not much else.”
“Chickens? Really?”
He nodded. “Oh yeah. I like working with my hands, and I like working with the land. It feels like— taking back. Owning a place and owning a garden. Owning my own work.”
There was something dark in his face and voice and I watched it come and go.
“What about you?” he asked.
“Me?” I wracked my brain. “I don’t really do much. I listen, I guess.”
“Listen?”
“Yeah.” I shrugged.
Jed leaned back in his chair, watching me. I shifted.
“How do you know about the demons?” I asked.
He huffed. “Demons. They’re not demons. They’re more like… constructs. Prototypes. Machines. Creations. There’s no word for it.”
He leaned back in the chair, sighed.
“A long time ago,” he continued,  “before you were born, I died.”

Re your last answer, I agree. I didn't even care about bton before SA was casted. I'm not a fan of the show, I like kanthony (I like the dynamic of the characters, I find the book a tad unbalanced but I like their banter, in general I find the shows writing lacking under many aspects but thank God for fanfictions authors, right? ) but it's not like I am a fan of jb so if they aren't giving SA nothing to work with well it's not like I'll keep watching. I can accept having "crumbs", a little scene here and there but after yesterday well...they are really showing how much they care not about a fictional character but a real person. And it makes me sad because she was always so gracious and seemed genuinely excited and they kept using her as a "bait", look how different is our show! We have wocs as leads! And like someone said before me the other actors/actresses continuously posting and reposting that video, and SA's radio silence is telling. Manifesting an announcement of sorts from her team ... Rege style.
There was a big influx of fans with Kate's casting and it only grew the closer we got to the premiere (not to mention afterwards!). I'd constantly come across posts or asks by people who either watched s01 and weren't much into it or hadn't watched the show at all and wanted to give it a go because of Simone, asking if Kate and Anthony's story was any good, if their book can be read as a standalone etc
Getting to experience all the stages of excitement in the fandom (waiting for Kate's actress to be announced, celebrating Simone's casting and seeing how much it meant for woc fans to have two darkskinned Indian girls as Kate and Edwina, getting the first paparazzi pics and then the tudum clip)... there was so much excitement I'd never have guessed we'd end up here
I don't know if it's just me because I hadn't watched any Shondaland shows (minus still star crossed) but before s02 pr began I fully trusted the production with TVWLM. Seeing what they'd done with TDAI I thought we'd get something similar– some changes sure, but maintaing the basic elements of the story, centering the protagonists and the romance etc. And with the blueprint of Phoebe and Regé in mind I was sure we'd get this with Simone and Jonathan.
I still can't believe how the hell we went from Simone being announced as the female lead of the most popular book in the series to her being treated like a side character. And I should be used to disappointment by now but damnit, how do you see the huge success Kathony became on socials and the attention Simone has been getting on Hollywood and double down on erasing her?!
I hope she keeps being silent about the s03 video. She's been nothing but kind and humble and all they've done is disrespect her time and time again.. Since she probably can't speak until she's off the show the least she should be afforded is not having to play cheerleader to people who are hellbent on sidelining her and her character.
I can't wait to see her booked and busy and I wish she could afford to tell Shondaland to fuck off (not sure how the show's contracts work but if it happens it would be GLORIOUS).
