Vriska telling everyone to drink more water. (She is surrounded by empty energy drink cans.)
i do not think she would consume that noxious slutch. however
a certain mad scientist might have a problem

you know, with all that we joked about jack diagnosing van helsing with hysteria and such things, it is interesting that when van helsing asks if jack believes in the power of hypnosis, jack says that it has been proven by charcot.
i do not remember how much i looked into charcot when that entry came around (september 26th), but i am looking into him now for... reasons.... and a lot of his work with hypnosis was specifically focused on treating hysteria. and i got this interesting information from wikipedia:
Charcot argued vehemently against the widespread medical and popular prejudice that hysteria was rarely found in men, presenting several cases of traumatic male hysteria. He taught that due to this prejudice these "cases often went unrecognised, even by distinguished doctors" and could occur in such models of masculinity as railway engineers or soldiers. Charcot's analysis, in particular his view of hysteria as an organic condition which could be caused by trauma, paved the way for understanding neurological symptoms arising from industrial-accident or war-related traumas.
which is very interesting, not so much in relation to van helsing as in relation to jonathan and the trauma he goes through and is continuously affected by. i know a lot of us tend to treat mentions of hysteria as a shorthand for something womanly or feminine (for good reason!), but idk, the fact that stoker specifically invokes charcot, who argued against that association, could lend itself to the idea that it’s rather shortsighted.
i don’t know enough about stoker to say anything in regards to how deliberate something like that would be though, if perhaps he was making a point or not.

So I finally did it. One thing that Dracula Daily has been good for was that it inspired me to tackle a meal I’ve been a little intimidated by. So today, I make paprikáš.
It’s rather delicious and I want to shout out @slavsquatting-rat for the recipe, moral support and the genius idea to add mushrooms.
[ID: Two pictures of chicken paprikash on a deep dish decorated with a pattern of a white goose with blue ribbon tie. First picture features a closeup of the dish - chicken in red cream sauce with tarhonya side dish, the second picture is the plate on a rustic wooden table with a bottle of Pilsner Urquell beer in the background. End ID.]

Seventeen-year-old Avery Anderson is convinced her senior year is ruined when she’s uprooted from her life in DC and forced into the hostile home of her terminally ill grandmother, Mama Letty. The tension between Avery’s mom and Mama Letty makes for a frosty arrival and unearths past drama they refuse to talk about. Every time Avery tries to look deeper, she’s turned away, leaving her desperate to learn the secrets that split her family in two.
While tempers flare in her avoidant family, Avery finds friendship in unexpected places: in Simone Cole, her captivating next-door neighbor, and Jade Oliver, daughter of the town’s most prominent family—whose mother’s murder remains unsolved.
As the three girls grow closer—Avery and Simone’s friendship blossoming into romance—the sharp-edged opinions of their small southern town begin to hint at something insidious underneath. The racist history of Bardell, Georgia is rooted in Avery’s family in ways she can’t even imagine. With Mama Letty’s health dwindling every day, Avery must decide if digging for the truth is worth toppling the delicate relationships she’s built in Bardell—or if some things are better left buried.
