"At times, I forgot you chose to be blind to the wrongness of the world you live in," Solas commented, after she praised the beauty of the world they both lived in.

Elluin groaned when her fuzzy brain caught up with Solas' words. Exhausted and sweaty after a session of fucking his brains out, the last thing she craved for was another arguing match about who was right or wrong in the waking world. The Fade trembled in the rhythm of Elluin's protest, and the green grass tickling her butt turned bright red, a chameleon of her rising anger.

"You always do this, you know." She left the warmth of his embrace and turned her back on him, as she always did when Fen'Harel spoke and not Solas, the man she loved. "Blaming everyone because they see the world differently than you do."

"How can you say that?" His voice trembled with indignation, but Elluin refused to look at him, even though her heart begged her to. "I am not wrong. Do you truly believe the world as it is now is fair to you and your people? To mages and elves? I know you see what I see. Do not feign stupidity to win an argument with me."

"It's not about winning an argument with you." Elluin rubbed her face until her skin prickled trying and failing to dispel the frustration gathering in the tired lines of her face. "Did you ever think that maybe, just maybe, I can see how dark and ugly this world is, but I choose to see something good in it?"

"I admire your ability to imagine the golden threads hidden in the mud, but that will not change the truth. Mud is mud, no matter which way you choose to be blinded."

"I'm not doing this again." She jumped back to her feet, ready to leave the Fade and the stubborn fool who belittled her beliefs. The next time he craved a fucking session, he could rub his balls on the grass, for all she cared. "You made your choice and I made yours. Stop questioning my faith."

"Wait. Please, stay."

Elluin froze in place, his plea tugging at the strings of her heart. Stay, she begged, years ago, and yet he turned his back on her. Bitterness hung on her tongue, demanding to be released, to hurt him. "Sometimes I forget you don't truly understand me." A lie. Solas understood the flaming corners of her soul like no one else. And yet, he stroke that fire stronger than others could.

"I-" he stammered, and she knew Solas returned, no longer hiding behind his six eyed mask. "I am a fool, and I do not deserve your forgiveness. Or your love."

"You don't." She turned on the soles of her feet to see the clouds of guilt gathering in the grey of his eyes, but Solas stared down at his fingers. "And yet I chose to give it to you."

"Why?"

Again, that question. And again the ocean of sorrow trembling in his voice quenched the anger burning in the corners of her soul.

"Because I choose to see the kindness hiding in the darkness of your heart." She chuckled. "The golden threads hidden in the mud. "
