gonna address an issue of whitewashing that i've been seeing more and more frequently

very often, i see art of fenris with darker skin, sometimes as dark as vivienne, which is fine and good. however, nearly as often, in the same art, zevran or isabela will be drawn much lighter, both compared to this darker skinned fenris and their canon skin tones.

both isabela and zevran are canonically dark-skinned. they are also some of the most frequently whitewashed characters, by both bioware and fandom. just in case you need your memory refreshed, i'm going to use some images for comparison.

(these examples aren't perfect and the lighting of dao and da2 is famously bad but it at least provides their base morphs and some lighting variations. images credit to @whitewashingage)

Zevran, who uses skin tint 06 out of 07

Isabela, who used skin tint 05 in origins and uses skin tint 10 out of 12 (for humans) in two

compared to Fenris, who uses skin tint 06 out of 10 (for elves)

another character that is often whitewashed, both in comparison to fenris and not, is sebastian. i know da2's lighting is terrible, but he uses skin tint 08, which puts him right between fenris and isabela, meaning that he is canonically darker than fenris. and yet he is often drawn lighter than fenris, whether fenris's skin has been darkened or not.

drawing fenris with dark skin is fine, but it does not absolve you from incorrectly coloring other characters of color, and especially the dark-skinned ones. just because you draw fenris dark-skinned does not mean you can slack off on other characters of color.

i feel it should go without saying, but it is not actually adding anything of value to draw a canonically light-skinned brown character dark if you're also whitewashing the canonically dark-skinned characters.

there are likely many reasons for the prevalence of dark-skinned fenris art, and by all means, continue. but if you darken fenris's skin while simultaneously whitewashing characters that are canonically darker than him—isabela, zevran, sebastian—then your dark-skinned fenris is nothing more than performative.

(and for those who don't draw but do reblog art, keep your eyes open for this, as well. even if fenris is drawn darker, it doesn't mean the other characters of color are appropriately colored. if even one character is whitewashed, the art should not be reblogged.)

I saw a post that said “Dragon Age discourse walked so that Baldurs Gate 3 discourse could run” and that’s absolutely false. Dragon Age discourse sprinted, foaming at the mouth, so that BG3 discourse could skip happily through a meadow

betta fish sun who was thrown into sewer when he was in "larvae"/fish stage and never got out until he grew up but he was too accustomed to underground communications by then so he just. stayed. betta fishes go pale when stressed (or so i heard) and considering his place of living where most of the time he hunts for bats and some stray fishes (and ppl), the boi spent his whole life as pale ghoul on top. however, after meeting yn and getting from them some sort of passive food income he doesnt need to worry about, as well as a buddy, the boy got a glow up on bottom.
