CHAPTER ONE: THE CHEERLEADER AND HER BOYFRIEND
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Stacy’s life might seem like a whole cliché to others, but she really doesn’t care. She is happy with her cliché.
Everywhere she goes she hears people talking about her but she pays them no mind, unless they’re compliments. She knows a lot of people are just jealous of her for being rich and smart and pretty because not everyone can afford to be that successful.
She loves the attention as she walks through the halls, how so many heads turn once the smell of her sweet, distinctive perfume hits their nostrils, and the purple-colored blouse she is wearing blinds their eyes. Her long wavy hair seems to bounce up and down in slow motion with every step that she takes, her favorite purple scrunchie holding it up in a long ponytail that adds a casual yet angelic touch to her look. Stacy walks with her head held high and a delicate smile on her face, ignoring the nasty looks she receives from others as she focuses on just one curly-haired girl who is putting some stuff away in her locker. “Hey, cutie.” Stacy greets her best friend, Mackenzie.
Mackenzie turns around with a huge grin on her face, recognizing the voice immediately. She is wearing a beautiful floral jacket on top of her white shirt, jean shorts, and black tights. “Well hi there. You’re looking bubbly today.”
“What? Can’t I be bubbly?” Stacy says, innocently batting her eyelashes.
“Of course, you can, you can be whatever you want to be,” Mackenzie says dramatically, followed by a chuckle. “But there’s something different this time, I can tell.”
“Well… maybe I have something planned.” There’s a slight hint of mystery in Stacy’s voice as she says that.
Mackenzie raises an eyebrow as she goes to close up her locker. “Then, maybe you'd like to share it?”
“Or maybe I just want to leave you in suspense?” Stacy suggests.
Mackenzie rolls her eyes and then places a hand on her chest. “Oh gosh, don’t be like that, Stace. I’m just dying to know!”
Stacy shakes her head before feeling someone standing behind her, sneaking an arm around her and pulling her close. “Hey, gorgeous.”
She giggles once she recognizes her boyfriend’s voice and then turns in his arms, wrapping her arms around his neck and kissing him quickly on the lips. “Hey. I missed you.”
“I missed you too,” He replied. “Last night, especially.”
“I know, I would’ve stopped by but I was studying with Kenzie,” Stacy explains apologetically.
“Yeah, wouldn’t want her to end up brainless like some people,” Mackenzie mutters, raising an eyebrow at Daniel. He glares at her as she says, “Anyway, I’m gonna go ahead and get to the classroom, Stace. I’ll leave you alone with your caveman.”
As Stacy rolls her eyes, Daniel scoffs. “I don’t how much longer I can stand your little friend.”
“She’s just teasing you,” Stacy tells him. “Pay her no mind.”
His expression becomes stern for a moment but it quickly softens once she changes the subject, just in time to avoid anything too explosive. “Are you ready for the game tonight?”
“Always,” Daniel replies, taking a hold of her hand. “I can’t wait to see you cheering for me.”
“Then I better give it my all.” Stacy’s smile is big as she leans in to kiss him again. This time it lasts longer as he grabs her hips, pulling her closer and getting a bit too carried away for a moment. The bell ringing works as an indication for her to break away from him, pecking his cheek when she notices his annoyed look. “I’ll see you later, alright?”
“Alright.” After he nods, she walks away.
While in class, and as the teacher is reading something from a book out loud, Stacy cannot contain her excitement any longer. Last night, after she came home from the studying session, she thought about her relationship with Daniel. He’s everyone’s dream guy, one of the most good-looking in school, perhaps. And there is no doubt that she’s clearly one of the prettiest girls around. Both of them are hot and popular, it only makes sense that they’re together. It also makes sense that they share intimacy together, in more ways than one.
Stacy bites her lip as she passes a note to Mackenzie, who is sitting next to her. Mackenzie furrows her eyebrows as she reads it.
‘I think I’m gonna do it tonight.’
She looks up at Stacy in a confused way before tearing out a piece of paper from her own notebook and writing something on it. She hands it to Stacy a few seconds later.
‘Do what?’
‘Sleep with Daniel. I was thinking of doing it after the party.’
‘… Are you sure?’
‘Yeah, why?’
“I just think that maybe you’re rushing a bit into this,” Mackenzie answers as they walk outside the classroom. “I don’t want you to feel pressured because he makes you feel that way.”
“He doesn’t pressure me, I truly want to do it,” Stacy reassures her. “Besides, we’ve been together for almost a year. I think It’s about time.”
“It’s not really about how long you’ve been with the person, though,” Mackenzie points out, still sounding doubtful about her friend’s sudden decision. “It’s about whether you really are certain that you trust them with something so important as that. It’s not a bad thing to be a virgin, you know.”
“God, Kenzie, when did you turn into my mother?” Stacy teases as she scoffs. “It’ll be fine, alright? I’ve given it a lot of thought and I have already made up my mind.”
Mackenzie gives her a look before she sighs in defeat. “Well, you’re right. If you really feel that you’re ready then… go for it.”
Stacy grins, nudging her on the ribs. “I’ll tell you all about it afterward.”
“Uh, no thank you, I’m good not knowing about it.” Mackenzie grimaces while Stacy laughs and wraps an arm around her.

The school’s gym is almost filled to its maximum, even before the game actually starts. With each game that goes on through the years, the crowd gets bigger and bigger, to the point that the hype of the Hawkins team winning so much became the talk of the town at some point. Stacy also loves the attention that the cheerleaders receive, especially during the pep rally. It’s probably her favorite part of the whole event, that and watching her boyfriend play against the other players like It’s nothing.
She walks towards Chrissy Cunningham, who is taking a sip out of her water bottle. “Ready?”
Chrissy smiles after setting down the bottle, picking up her pom poms to give Stacy an answer. “Absolutely.”
All cheerleaders get into position, soon followed by the start of their routine as soon as the marching band begins to play. Stacy gives the audience her best smile, as she usually does. Cheerleading, to her, is everything; she feels her best when she’s doing it because that’s when she can feel that all eyes are on her. She hates the uniform but she is not worried about her appearance in the slightest because, even though the colors are horrific, she still makes it look good. And that is evident whenever she catches other basketball players staring at her for a bit too long.
When the Hawkins’ Tigers come out, led by Jason Carver, the cheers from the crowd grow ten times louder. By the time the game starts, the crowd is going wild. Stacy, alongside the other cheerleaders, is sitting on a bench as they too join the wave of students. Daniel’s eyes meet hers every now and then; every time he scores a point he smiles in her direction. However, he’s not the only one calling out for Stacy’s attention…
“I don’t want to sound gossipy,” Mackenzie leans in to talk in Stacy’s ear. “but there’s a guy from the other team who just can’t stop looking at you.”
Stacy furrows her eyebrows. “Which one?”
Mackenzie nods in the guy’s direction and Stacy squints her eyes a bit to get a better look while the Tigers’ coach calls a time-out. Indeed, when they turn in his direction he is already looking at them. At Stacy. His dark hair is tied up in a bun and his tan skin tone is glowing due to the sweat, but he is still very good-looking. He smiles at her before jogging back to where his team is now gathering. Stacy and Mackenzie look at each other before bursting out laughing.
As the game continues, the scores begin to get tight. The Tigers are winning but the other team is not staying too far behind. Stacy can see that Daniel is starting to grow frustrated, mainly because of the speed with which the other team is catching up. Whoever wins this game will play in the championships and she knows how much that means to him. She hates thinking about how upset he’ll get if they lose.
The buzzer sound comes in again, indicating that someone just scored a point. To Stacy’s surprise, It’s the same guy that was looking at her earlier. She’s not surprised because of who it is —she is more surprised at the fact that he had managed to steal the ball from Daniel himself, something no one had done yet. She now knows that that is going to bother him for the rest of the game.
The guy turns to Stacy once again, this time throwing in a wink that almost makes her blush.
Unfortunately, though, she’s not the only one who sees it…
Daniel walks towards the guy, pushing him without hesitation once he realizes who he’s winking at. When he regains his balance, the guy gets on Daniel’s face, both of them saying inaudible stuff to each other, but Stacy knows that they can’t be any good. She stands up from her seat, almost walking over to Daniel but his other teammates beat her to it, pulling him back before he can do something much worse. He gets a foul for pushing another player and Stacy feels bad when he’s forced to sit on the bleachers, right next to Lucas Sinclair, who seems to want to reassure Daniel but decides against it once he notices him glowering at the other team.
The good news is that the Tigers manage to win, regardless. Although Daniel does not look as mad as before, he’s still looking heated as he shows off their victory in the other team’s face. Stacy and the other cheerleaders are clapping excitedly. She and Chrissy stand up; Chrissy runs to Jason’s arms and he spins her around. Stacy goes to do the same with her boyfriend but when she tries to wrap her arms around his neck, Daniel pulls them away. Her smile fades at the sudden gesture, wondering why he would do that to her.
Before she can say something about it, Daniel grabs her by the wrist and drags her out of the gym. He finally stops in the middle of a hallway, where it is dark and everyone who is still at the game sounds muffled. “What the fuck was that out there?” is the first thing that Daniel asks.
“What are you t-”
“Don’t play dumb with me, Stacy,” Daniel points an accusing finger at her. “I saw that son of a bitch winking at you and you didn’t seem to mind it at all.”
Stacy stares at him in disbelief. “What was I supposed to do? And besides, It’s not my fault that other guys like me!”
“Well, maybe you don’t have to look so happy when another guy flirts with you right in front of me.” He snaps.
He runs a hand through his hair in frustration and rests the other one on his hip. “You’re acting as if I fucked the guy!”
“If there was no one else around, I wouldn’t be surprised if you’d actually fuck him.”
She lets out a low gasp. Yes, maybe she enjoys it when guys give her a little bit of attention. Yes, she cannot deny that the guy is very easy on the eye. But would she ever cheat on Daniel? Never. She is not that type of girl and she thought that he knew that by now. He’s just angry. He doesn’t mean that.
“Hey,” Stacy calls to gain his attention. His eyes are looking down at the ground as he begins to slowly pace back and forth. “I was going to wait until tonight to tell you but-” she walks closer to him, cautiously grabbing his face in her hands and stopping him in his tracks. She starts to think that maybe Daniel will pull away but, to her surprise, he stays still. “-I’m ready… I’m ready to give myself to you.”
At this, Daniel does look up, his expression drastically changing. He doesn’t look so mad anymore. “You’re serious?”
Stacy nods, biting her lip. “I want to show you that I love you, and only you.”
Daniel’s smile at that moment is the biggest that she’s ever seen on him. His perfect teeth are in full view; it is the most beautiful sight to see him so happy. “Okay, then.” He says.
She smiles back and he kisses her. She is glad that he has calmed down, that he is not doubting her loyalty any longer. He has no reason to do so because she’s his, and no one can ever change that.
