We need to talk.
Okay, it's not that serious, but I need to talk about this.
You see that? This thing right here? Bright green, looks like a Red Bull, little amber writing on the side: Curuba/Elderflower.
I have no idea what a Curuba is, nor am I particularly familiar with Elderflowers. It sounds like a pair of ingredients an apothecary would apothe-cary for dubious potioneering. Google informs me that a Curuba, sometimes known as a banana passionfruit, is known for having a somewhat earthy, somewhat tart flavor reminiscent of Peach or passionfruit. Actually, there were a number of articles describing them in various, sometimes conflicting, terms.
This is but one example of the fruit.
Elderflower, per a blog I found, has a "uniquely fresh, floral, green" flavor, with "subtle pear, lychee, and tropical nuances". They are, surprising nobody (even Polyphemus), the flowers of Elder trees. One post on a Red Bull consumer's blog, describes Elderflower as a "floral, musky" flavor.
This combination is a bit odd, to say the least.
If you remember the "Fig Apple" Winter Edition from two years ago, you'll know exactly what I'm talking about. There's a bitter, tartness to this, that feels almost like a cider. The immediate impression I had, influenced obviously from the fact that earlier in the day, I had consumed a Cranberry Sprite, and a Dragonfruit RedBull, was that this was an apple-like analog of a Sprite or a Sierra Mist (rather than that other drink Pepsi produces which I will not mention here).
I let a few people try it when I bought one, and one of them described this flavor as similar to "Bottle Caps or SweetTarts"; the take-away being that it was like a hard, tart candy with a soda-pop texture. Another gave me a deeply confused look, said she didn't like it, but that she would definitely drink an entire can; I didn't catch any sort of paradoxical nuance to the flavor, but evidently she did.
To me, this doesn't really scream "Summer". It's too subtle, with hidden machinations, to be a Summer flavor. It's got a strangely Autumnal thing going on, to me. I guess I could associate with being a sort-of "campfire drink," which could be a summer-affair. It's got something of a "spring-to-roasted-apple-summer" thing, I think, a bit of a carnival business.
I like the effort, it pays off, but this isn't a day-to-day RedBull flavor. You could get tired of it very, very quickly. The excitement is there, but it's perhaps a roller coaster with a very steep decline.

I walked to the store for a redbull and got rlly happy because turns out there’s a new curuba elderflower one but on my way home I noticed berries like wild berries so I ate the berries they tasted rlly good with the redbull but if I die it was because of the berries but I think they were blackberries so I should be fine if I don’t start feeling bad I’m definitely eating more 😼

Okay so like, I KNOW having a Red Bull at work is a bad idea. I won't be able to sleep tonight (like I'd be able to anyway, cuz fuck early morning shifts). But! Hear me out: we have this really yummy new flavor (curuba and elderflower) and it's sooooooooooo good it almost tops Watermelon as my fave.
And I don't have to buy it cuz I already have a can

Passiflora tarminiana (or banana passionfruit).
The yellow fruits are edible and their resemblance to small, straight bananas has given it the name banana passionfruit in some countries. It is native to the uplands of tropical South America and is now cultivated in many countries. In Hawaii and New Zealand it is now considered an invasive species. In Hawaii, it is called banana poka (in the Hawaiian language the word pōka'a refers to tendrils – "that which is tied up in a ball like rope or twine"). In its Latin American homeland, it is known as curuba, curuba de Castilla, or curuba sabanera blanca (Colombia); taxo, tacso, tagso, tauso (Ecuador); parcha, taxo (Venezuela), tumbo or curuba (Bolivia); tacso, tumbo, tumbo del norte, trompos, tintin, porocsho or purpur (Peru).
Clade:Rosids
Order:Malpighiales
Family:Passifloraceae
Genus:Passiflora
The banana passionfruit is native to the Andean valleys from Venezuela to Bolivia. It was domesticated and cultivated since pre-Columbian times by various cultures of western South America before the Spanish Conquest. the most important disperser in Hawaii is the feral pig, which eats the fallen fruit and passes the seeds intact.
Passiflora tarminiana and P. tripartita thrive in the climate of New Zealand. They are invasive species since they can smother forest margins and forest regrowth. It is illegal to sell, cultivate and distribute the plants.
The leaves and roots of some, if not all, members of this genus contain a substance called 'passiflorina' which has similaritiesr to morphine and is an effective tranquilizer. The leaves of many species are also considered to be anthelmintic, antihysteric and diaphoretic. They are used in Brazil to combat intermittent fevers, cutaneous inflammations, and erysipelas.

Nobody really understands they put every inch of their pussy in the red bull flavors. They have a flavor called curuba elderflower. I find myself wanting to talk to people about how bad I want to try limited editions but Im fully aware that nobody cares. I want to petition for them to make decaf versions so i can drink unhealthy amounts of them but i know not many will get where im coming from and just tell me something really stupid like to drink a Mountain Dew or la croix. If they bring back the San pellegrino fruit beverages with the cute little foil lids and sell them individually maybe I’ll have some satisfaction in this world
