What kind of date night out do you see Buddie doing?

i like to think that at the very beginning of their relationship, hopeless romantics as they both are, they go in optimistically thinking that they'll be able to regularly treat each other to lavish restaurants and fancy outings....and then reality sets in and they realize that shit. they're both firefighters with busy schedules and a kid. so then they playfully bicker a for a little while about whether doing the same things they’ve been doing for years as friends — grabbing breakfast together after shift, stopping at their favorite burger place after dropping chris off at his robotics competitions, putting on a movie together and using that as an excuse to make out until they fall asleep on the couch together — count as dates and of course, like the cheesy saps they are, they come to the conclusion that yes they are dates because what is a date if not spending time with the person you love?

so then from then on they prioritize doing those things as often as they can, except with an added focus on intimacy. because while they do spend a lot of time together, most of it is in the more clinical context of work, so when they're not on shift they just want to be close to one another. maybe buck brings eddie lunch after his basketball games and they sit by the beach and eat together. maybe eddie teaches buck one of his mom's family recipes, and then sits on the counter as he watches buck lovingly learn the taste of eddie's childhood home. maybe they they just knock back a couple of beers together with a movie in the background, neither of them paying attention to it as eddie listens to buck ramble on and on about anything and everything that's been going on in their lives. maybe they'll work out together in silence at the gym and then go home, sated and sweaty and get another type of workout in later. maybe buck takes eddie out on a drive with no destination in mind, simply for the sake of getting to spend that time together.

i also like to think that on occasion, when they do feel like going out together, their favorite thing to do is to try out every new thing under the sun — maybe they'll take a pottery class and they'll be absolutely terrible at it, but they'll love it anyway. maybe they'll try a new hiking trail and their knees will be sore and achy by the end of it. maybe eddie will take buck and chris camping, because they've never done that as a family. maybe they'll rock climb, or attempt to garden, or maybe buck drags eddie to another karaoke bar. idk. i just know that sometimes they'll love it, sometimes they'll hate it, but it's always worth it because their ultimate goal, after everything they've been through, is just to live out the rest of their lives together 💕

#i do think that once in a while. maybe every 2-3 months or so. when they're able to get PTO at the same time and chris is out on a business #trip they take a road trip down to san diego or up to napa or SF or something to get that much needed uninterrupted alone time as a #couple. they don't do it too often because they're sappy dads who hate being away from their kid. but yeah #sorry this got a little off topic hehe #answered #comfortbuddie

ohh i have it a little abandoned actually! it's basically one where chris doesn't really like buck and eddie being together (but not bc of the idea but more bc if the fact things will inevitably change and also coming from a place where he watched a lot of ppl, including the two partners his dad ever had, walk away from his life in one way or other)

Buck breaks up with Eddie on a Tuesday. It’s the hardest thing that he’s ever had to do, and he wants to get it done as soon as possible so he can go burrow into his self-hatred and stay there. He doesn't say any of the clichés like "It's not you, it's me."— he doesn't say "It just isn't working anymore" or "I don't love you anymore," because all of it would be a lie. They both know it would be a lie. "Please, please don't do this." Eddie begs, his voice breaking on the second word. Buck's heart is pounding in his ears and he feels sick to his stomach. "Eddie." He says and Eddie's name falls from his lips like the most precious promise that he doesn't want to break but will have to anyway. "I… I just don't know how could we—" Eddie sees the hesitation, the moment of doubt that makes Buck stop— and Eddie takes his chance, he strikes, hoping he'll be able to change Buck's mind. "Please." Eddie's voice comes wavering but he forces himself to continue. "I know it's hard, and trust me, I hate this as much if not more than you. But— But I'm not ready to give this up." Eddie licks his lips, his mouth too dry to keep talking. "Christopher is scared, but—" "But what? He'll get over it?" "Buck—" "He doesn't want us together, Eddie!" Buck snaps and Eddie flinches.

Ok the TV news angle…I thought of that but then wondered if it would be one of the parents who sees it first.

I'm mad that I'm rooting for the news now 😩😄 And it could include that tension the fandom is looking for, right? Like, Maddie gets upset (maybe her parents don't realize what they've said or done to cause it) and while she's going off for a minute/going back and forth with probably her mom, Phillip could say one of their names to direct them to the tv, or maybe Albert does it because Phillip is lost for words. OR. There is no fight, and Jee-Yun still says her uncle's or dad's name, but Maddie just think she's, y'no, babbling about missing them, and one of the parents has to get her attention. THE POSSIBILITIES.

"So, this is my reward for coming home early, huh?"

Buck groans from somewhere under the mound of blankets, a pitiful sound that makes Eddie's stomach flip. He sits down on the edge of the bed as Buck's head slowly appears from under the blanket, squinting at the soft morning light filling the room. His hair is pointing in a million different directions and his lips are pressed together in a soft pout and Eddie thinks he's never been more in love.

"Wha' time 'sit?" He mumbles.

"Just gone nine. Chris get to school okay?"

Buck hums, closing his eyes again as Eddie begins to comb through his hair, brushing out knots so lightly he wouldn't even know he's there. "Sarah came to pick 'im up. He's got a parent-teacher thing next week, you know?"

Eddie hums quietly, brushing the last of the hair away from Buck's face and brushing a gentle thumb over his cheekbone. "I'll speak to Bobby, see if we can swap shifts with a couple of the B-shift guys."

Buck's eyes open slowly, a glint in them Eddie can't quite place. "You can go without me, you know."

Eddie hears all of what he isn't saying. He knows Buck has insecurities still about his place in their lives. He spends everyday trying to reassure him that home isn't home without him. So, Eddie smiles warmly, in a way that he hopes is reassuring. "Why would I? He's your son too."

Eddie knows he's hit the mark as the smile blooms across Buck's lips, wide and so, so happy. "Yeah, okay." He rasps out. "We'll go together."

Eddie nods, leaning down to slot his lips against Buck's as he whispers promises of together into his mouth, holding onto his hope of forever for just a little longer.

It's just turbulence, Buck thinks, and he's about to tell Eddie they should sit back down when a loud, metallic whine stops him.

Then, there's a second of silence, where there's only Buck and Eddie existing, staring at each other. Buck thinks, a little hysterically, that it reminds him of that awful day in the L.A streets where a sniper almost takes Eddie away from him.

It's the same, two blue eyes locked into restless browns, the stillness, the one second of denial before everything changes.

Before everything explodes.

One second, they're facing each other, Buck about to step closer to Eddie and reach out again— and the next second the plane is ripping itself in two right where Eddie stands. Buck can only watch in horror as Eddie's sucked in the air.

I think exactly that! I think he'd give Chris a look of bewilderment before scoffing and looking at Eddie like "did you hear what your kid just said?" And then Eddie smiles and folds his arms and gives Buck a look that says "yes I heard our son just said and I'm taking his side"
