Changes in Dune Part 2 I liked (not necessarily exhaustive):
Feyd-Rautha being tested in the same way that Paul was tested. A great way to turn them into parallels.
(Implicitly) Irulan getting the title Empress by marrying Paul. It bothers me that in the book she keeps being referred to as Princess. Even if Paul wanted to give her nothing else, at least the title is her right as his wife.
The Great Houses rejecting Paul's ascension. It was strange in the books when they accepted him and then he said "Let's do the Jihad anyways."
Most of all: The rift between Paul and Chani. The movies do go for the theme of resistance against foreign rule more explicitly than the books. The only thing I am wondering is: Are we supposed to just assume Chani is right, or is it at this point an open question?

on “Zutara is a colonizer x colonized ship”
“Colonizer” is not an ontological category. It’s a role within a specific geopolitical power dynamic, and therefore it can change — or even cease to exist — when these geopolitical power dynamics change (like when, idk, a Gaang of teenagers overthrow a genocidal imperialist colonial regime to install a new monarch who vows to stop the genocide and imperialism and colonization and bring about an era of love and peace)
I know it’s a bad faith anti argument, but it bothers me more than most anti Zutara arguments because I think it is indicative of a very pessimistic, defeatist attitude about power relations in general. Any type of oppressor is not a fixed role. It’s subject to change, and indeed ATLA’s message is that it’s your obligation — and your right, your power — to fight for that change, even if you’re just a ragtag group of kids against a whole empire. Calling Zuko a colonizer is not only a baffling misunderstanding of what colonization is, it also implies that even when you successfully challenge and restructure oppressive power dynamics, old sins cast long enough shadows that there is nothing you can do to be free of them. It’s one thing to acknowledge the complexities of a close relationship with someone who used to benefit from your oppression (indeed that’s kind of the whole arc of The Southern Raiders where Katara confronts the ways in which she has projected the trauma of her mother’s murder at the hands of the Fire Nation onto Zuko, who is now a valued ally). It’s quite another to claim that neither of you can ever escape the ontological categories of oppressor vs victim even if you’ve both changed the world.

Mural inStrasbourg in memory of 8 May, 1945, when the French colonial army massacred 45,000 Algerians in the towns of Setif, Guelma and Kherrata.
On the same day that the French celebrated liberation from foreign occupation, Algerians took to the streets to obtain their own. Those demonstrations were repressed in blood on the orders of the colonial French State.
Today still, French imperialism exploits and plunders the countries of Africa and sows wars between the people to preserve its economic interests.
Sétif, Guelma, Kherrata!
We don't forget! We don't forgive!

I lean towards thinking that Paul was right to take leadership over the Fremen and then take power over the Empire, and Chani's wish for Fremen indepence but continuing isolation on Arrakis is misplaced.
Spice - because it allows safe interstellar travel - is too important to the Empire to let Arrakis go. If the Harkonnen's fail, other Houses will try and will continue to try. So if Arrakis cannot be left alone and independent, giving the Fremen a place in the power structure of the Empire is preferable to continued war and supression.
However, this might have also been achievable if Paul merely insisted with the other Great Houses that the Emperor abdicated and he is recognized as the Duke of Arrakis; the Houses could then have chosen a new compromise Emperor together. But we do not know if the other Houses would have accepted that or if they would have tried to conquer Arrakis for themselves - that would have resulted in the Holy War anyways.
(Also, the fact that House Harkonnen was tolerated by the Emperor while House Atreides was marked for destruction because they had a "weak heart" may mean that the galaxy lives under more misery than necessary and Fremen rule could change things for the better. Unfortunately we don't see enough of this world to really know.)

The new film based on Frank Herbert’s epic is full of anti-imperialist imagery, but it amounts to nothing more than a Hollywood version of colonial resistance struggle. (via 'Dune' Is Anticolonialism as Imagined by Megacorporations - Left Voice)
