Final thoughts on Trollhunters!
(Spoilers for the book)
ARRRGH!!!'s death seems very cathartic to me. Kind of like closure in an odd way, and it makes sense to the story.
Claire being literally the most badass Trollhunter is such a Claire thing. I love her.
Toby. Just Toby.
Jim getting that moment with his dad after the final battle was such a sweet thing. Just Jim in general. Book Jim was like S1 Jim if S1 Jim had S3 Jim's attitude.
Jack Sturges, hello yes I love you. He's like Douxie but physically younger and more bloodthirsty. Just his whole "I'm actually in my 50s but I still look and act 13, I'm very tired" thing. I love that.
Jack and Jim sharing that crazed love of the hunt and being invigorated by battle was one of my favorite things. Jim realizing that he's only good at Trollhunting and absolutely loving it. Has my whole heart.
Blinky, ARRRGH, and Jack being family to eachother???? It made me think that the showrunners took inspiration from that to give us Jim and Blinky's father/son duo and I'm living for it.
BLINKY AND JOANNA M. ARRRGH WERE IN LOVE AND YOU CANNOT CONVINCE ME OTHERWISE. Yet another thing that was translated into the show and I love it dearly.
It was really nice being able to see which things were clearly taken from the book and put into the show. I loved it with my whole heart.
Jim and Toby were in love in this book.
"My ninja."
"My trollhunter."
If that's not gay-coded then I don't know what is.
Claire with a Scottish accent. Yes I love it. I want more of it.
This book is one of the best I've ever read. I might be biased, but I don't care. It's a good story, and I kind of wish there had been more than one book. I would love a series of just these characters.
Claire and Jim at the end tho. The jlaire was so real.
Also, literally ending the book by all of them murdering Steve upon finding out he's a changeling was so funny to me.

Jlaire (or just Claire as a character, tbh) wouldn't be any be anywhere near as popular as it is if Claire was chubby like she is in the book.
Anyways, I love both book and show Claire with my entire heart, but I'm still kinda salty with how much they slimmed her down in the show

You know what trollhunters is missing? A smarmy little bitch called jack sturges, he's such a great character and I wonder what would've happened if he was added
Or if toa had more book original stuff, becaue draal was supposed to be (BOOK SPOILER) Steve's changeling form,
Would jack still be Jim's uncle? Would Jim live with his dad instead? Milk carton epidemic? Scottish trollhunter claire Fontaine?

This post is meant for people who has already read the Trollhunters book. Don't continue if you haven't read it, unless you're curious about the book but you know you won't be reading it.
Ok, so the first surprise came from seeing how the story started with Jim's father. That scene with Jack's disappearance was quite a way to start the book. I wasn't expecting it to be Jim's mom the one who had abandoned him. On this point i wish the show had been a middle point between the book and what we saw in the show. Maybe that after some years Jim's dad had been like "I can't do this anymore, i can't stay here anymore", he had tried to convince Barbara of leaving Arcadia (San Bernardino), that she had refused and he left. Not because he was a bad person, simply because of his mental health. I don't know, maybe Jack didn't disappear and Jim's dad went to look for him to help in the upcoming battle. I don't really like how both in the book and show one of his parents is not precisely a good person. Toby has a different personality. He's kinda bitter, but with sense of humor. I wish he had had more participation, but it makes sense he was left out for a period of time. He would had been very unprepared against the rust trolls and maybe he would had died. I loved his contribution to the final battle against Gunmar. Aaarrrgh is a female troll in the book!! I loved how she was the one who helped defeat Gunmar the first time. If i remember correctly, in the show his speech was affected from the training as a Gum-Gum, while in the book it was because of the rock Gunmar hit her with. I like better this part on the book. It is more heroic.
Blinky has the same personality. It was interesting how his blindness was passed on to his brother in the show.
I loved Jack too. There were moments when you just felt so sad for him. He lost so many years,... Sure he didn't age, but still it hurts to think how abruptly his life changed and all the things he didn't get to do. Just normal things. And his parents... 😭 His reaction when he came face to face with his brother. Oh my, that scene when Jim's dad was asking him to stay with them. That was such a sad scene. And then that line: "You're taking Jimmy?" Dad asked. "You're leaving me and taking my son?". They didn't described his word or his feelings at the moment, yet i could almost hear his voice trembling. They didn't explicitly say it, but Jack has got to stay in touch with his brother now. I mean, Gunmar's gallbladder wasn't destroyed. That alone should keep Jack coming back to the surface. He should stay up, but something tells me he would refuse to permanently moved up again even if Gunmar's gallbladder had been destroyed.
Something i loved is how well they prepared for the final battle. It was great writing that they had introduced the effects of televisions for trolls early in the story. So when that came up in the battle it didn't feel forced, it wasn't something they pulled out of thin air at the last minute. Jim's dad with the mower was really cool.
Claire. I loved that Claire had Trollhunter blood too. It was really cool the concept of the amulet, the chosen one, but i kinda prefer it like this. The backstory of many Trollhunter families and then the reveal that Claire belonged to one of them. In the show Jim and Claire were both strong characters. Both powerful, but in a different way. In the book they are still both powerful characters, but with both of them coming from Trollhunter families... i don't know. It feels extra special.
I had read in "The Art of Trollhunters" book that they had initially thought of making Steve a changeling, so it wasn't a big surprise when it was revealed by the end. Loved that it was Tub who exposed him. Poor Tub. On this point i prefer Steve from the show. That was an unexpected thing in the show that i loved. I wonder if Steve's pregnancy was inspired by Gunmar.
Ugh, at first i had thought that The Machine really had kids in it. That was frightening and disgusting to picture in my head.
About Strickler and Nomura being merged as Professor Lempke,... Needless to say i prefer Strickler and Nomura.
I really loved the book. If they had written a sequel i would buy it. Wish they'd make a movie about this book one day. Don't think that could easily happen, but it doesn't hurt to dream. ;)

Half-Troll Jim Sturges Jr.
Perhaps he needs to transform to fight Gunmar in his home turf. Perhaps alchemy goes awry. Perhaps he was infected with a Trollish virus. Whatever the case, here’s a conceptual view of a half-troll novel Jim, who’s troll half takes after the late ARRRGH!!!

I have finally finished the Trollhunters book and i loved it! I really recommend it to fans of the show who still haven't read it. However keep in mind that this is just one book vs the three seasons that the show had, so it obviously has many differences. There are characters that are very different. Characters that don't exist in the book. Characters that didn't exist in the show. I wouldn't recommend it to very young readers since it has some scenes that may be too much. I will make another post about the book for people who has read the book. Just to share the excitement. 😁
I really really enjoyed it and i hope you will give it a chance.

I think I have found a song that perfectly fits Crowley and Aziraphale after the ending of season 2. It’s called à la Claire Fontaine and is about the singer listening to a nightingale singing while missing for their longtime friend to love them again.
I am currently obsessed with Good Omens (I know, total shocker) and it just hit me that this song my mom often sang to me when I was little fit surprisingly well.
Anyways, long story short I put the lyrics below the cut and I translated them in English (I tried to match the rhyming scheme and stuff but I’m not perfect)
À la claire fontaine at the pretty water fountain
M'en allant promener, while i was on a stroll
J'ai trouvé l'eau si belle, I found it was so pretty
Que je m'y suis baignée. That I went for a swim
REFRAIN
Il y a longtemps que je t'aime, It’s been so long that I’ve loved you
Jamais je ne t'oublierai. Never, will I forget you
Sous les feuilles d'un chêne under the leaves of an oak tree
Je me suis fait sécher, I laid myself to dry
Sur la plus haute branche, up on the highest branch
Un rossignol chantait. A nightingale sang high
REFRAIN
It’s been so long that I’ve loved you
Never, will I forget you
Chante, rossignol, chante, sing, nightingale please sing
Toi qui as le cœur gai, you with your heart so light
Tu as le cœur à rire, you have the heart to laugh
Moi, je l'ai à pleurer. All mine can do is cry
REFRAIN
It’s been so long that I’ve loved you
Never, will I forget you
J'ai perdu mon ami I’ve lost my very best friend
Sans l'avoir mérité, without having earned them (him/her)
Pour un bouquet de roses, for a bouquet of roses
Que je lui refusai. That I refused to take
REFRAIN
It’s been so long that I’ve loved you
Never, will I forget you
Je voudrais que la rose I would’ve had the roses
Fût encore au rosier, still perched on the rose bush
Et que mon doux ami and for my dearest friend
Fût encore à m'aimer. To still love me deeply
REFRAIN
It’s been so long that I’ve loved you
Never, will I forget you
