Summary:

The last time Dean was in Chicago, he and Cas flew Baby up to the highest perch they could find in the crumbling skeletons of the ancient skyscrapers. They lay out on her flight-warm wings, and Cas pointed out the stars and the suborbital Academy to him, their fingertips curled together.

 Dean, well, he was more interested in other things.

Namely, Cas.

 That was eight years ago.

 Today should be the highlight of Dean's career as a racer. He's the only non-corporate flyer to be seeded for the Chicago track. He might not have racing implants glowing down the sides of his face, but he's got a full belly, his Impala 2067 primed and charged, and the biggest damned race on Terra to win.

 Everything from the skies and stars on down should be going his way.

 But that's just not how Winchester luck goes.

hm, idea that's been gnawing at my brain for a while now,,,

chuck loses. he's left in the dirt, human, powerless.

jack really does become "new god," all that power at his fingertips, all that responsibility on his shoulders -- but being god doesn't exactly come with a handbook. jack took chuck's power, not his memories, not his knowledge or his experience. and being god? it's a lot. it's a job that gets really difficult really quickly if you don't know what you're doing.

who could blame jack if he starts to crack, after a while? and who could blame the kid if he turns to the only person he thinks can help him? the only person who really gets what it's like to be god?

the fic im working on as a companion piece to this 1.6k fic is 12.8k so far (don’t look at me) and includes 

- Michael, the main character, who is the oldest of seven siblings and has practically raised all of his siblings. He was 10 when he started doing this. The youngest two, Anna and Castiel, who are twins, were 5. He got his soulmark when he was 6 and covered it up immediately. He hasn’t really thought about it since. 

- Lucifer, a year younger than Michael, but Michael has always babied him so he’s not exactly the crowned royalty of emotional maturity. Despite being the second sibling, he’s the fourth one to leave high school, and it makes him super bitter. Not cis, not talking about it, still uses he/him pronouns. By 20, he runs a nightclub and is a gang leader. Michael doesn’t bring it up. It seems easier that way. That pisses Lucifer off too. 

- Raphael, a year younger than Lucifer, adopted, a black woman in a white family. She’s a trans woman and came out right after she started college, which was two years before she was supposed to graduate high school; she graduated early because she’s a goddamn genius. She’s getting a teaching doctorate in medicine, because she’s always felt like she’s had two callings, and she’s never been one to choose. 

- Gabriel, same age as Raphael, has always referred to Raphael as his twin despite obvious differences. When Raphael graduated early, he asked Michael if he could drop out, and Michael said yes. Later down the line, he runs a coffee shop, and he’s on the lookout for not one, not two, but three soulmates. 

- Balthazar, two years younger than Gabriel and Raphael, and spent most of his formative years at a boarding school in England of his own choosing. Castiel and Anna are his favorite people in the world, and Michael has never wanted to pry, but he’s not sure that Balthazar has a soulmate. He doesn’t wear a cuff, but sometimes people have marks in less usual places. He simply does not know. 

- Castiel, a year younger than Balthazar, and the actual twin of his sister, Anna. The twins were adopted when they were barely a year old, and Castiel chose his name when he was five; Michael hadn’t done as much research into trans issues yet, being nine years old himself at the time, but he did what he could for Castiel then. Also, Castiel is autistic, diagnosed fully when he was six. Michael brought the Mayo Clinic diagnosis sheet into his father’s office and dropped it on his desk and said “For Castiel.” 

- Anna, the same age as Castiel, obviously, and obviously five years younger than Michael. She loves to dance. Ballet, jazz, tap, contemporary, whatever she can sign up for, and Michael will sign the papers for whatever she prints out, really. In her teenage years, she sneaks out often, but Michael doesn’t stop her. He doesn’t want to smother her, and if she’s sneaking out, she takes her cellphone and she knows where she’s going. She flirts with boys often, but later, she’ll come out as a nonbinary lesbian (she/they). Comphet gets us all. 

This, of course, is why it’s reached 12.8k long, long before Michael ever meets Adam, because for some reason, explaining Michael’s entire life story is inherent to explaining his neurosis for me. I’m 12.8k in and Michael is 21 years old. Michael is 29 when he meets Adam in this universe.

Summary: all Chuck needs to enjoy the Fall festivities is a little persuasion.

"Oh come on please! You will enjoy it, I promise!"

"No y/n."

"Alright fine. You know what I was trying to be nice about this but you aren't giving me a choice. We are doing this! End of discussion!"

This got his attention. Sitting back in his chair, from where he wrote tirelessly on some new book, Chuck crossed his arms and glared at you. His blue eyes magnified by the dark framed glasses he was wearing.

"Really Chuck? Is the God look supposed to scare me because all it actually does is turn me on."

You could tell he was trying his hardest to remain straight faced but soon a smirk had spread across his lips.

"Tell me how is it that you get by talking back to God like that? Anyone else would be smitted."

Strutting over to him, you placed yourself on his lap, wrapping your arms around his neck with your fingers playing in his brown curls.

"You let me get away with things because you love me and you know I love you. And you know if you play along I tend to show you a little extra love that night in bed while wearing nothing like you love."

"You're right. How could I ever forget."

Leaning in you placed a hard, deep kiss on his lips, giving his hair a slight tug as you did.

"Now," you continued as you pulled back and stopped the kiss. "You are going to come out and enjoy all the fun, Fall festivities with me, instead of sitting here in your boxers like a grumpy, old man. That way when we come home tonight I can do that thing to you that we both enjoy."

He got dressed in record speed after that and you got started on your Fall date. This was the first year you and Chuck were together for the Fall season and now that your live-in boyfriend was God you felt more than ever like you wanted to feel halfway normal for once. You had been begging him for weeks to come out and participate in the festivities with you and now that you had him willing to participate you wanted to do everything. Chuck was doing his best to put on his best face for you, but you knew it was taking all his strength not to zap you back to your place. Pumpkin patches and Orchards. Scenic walks and window shopping. It just wasn't his thing. He was much happier in his bath robe, writing and playing guitar and once you did the couple things you had been looking forward to you started heading towards the things that you knew he wouldn't be able to resist.

"Okay Mr. Shurley I think I know where we should go next."

Fingers intertwined, you were walking down main street, with your destination fast approaching.

"There's more? How many Fall traditions do you have?" he whined. "I don't like being in all these big crowds of people. All of these people acting so happy, like I don't know exactly what's going through their heads."

"Oh knock it off. Right now you are nothing more than a semi-attractive man out on a date with a girl whose way to good for him."

"Hey!"

As you started to laugh you leaned in and placed a kiss on his bearded cheek.

"You need to start learning how to relax Chuck, besides I'm pretty sure you will like what comes next."

He scrunched up his nose making a face of disgust. Walking no more than another couple minutes you stopped in front of this decorated store window of buckets filled with apples.

"Apples?" He questioned. "Why did we just go the orchard when we could've just come to the store?"

"Oh this is just the display," you stated motioning towards the window. "Inside they make gourmet caramel apples."

"They make what now?"

Pushing passed you, he had made it inside in the blink of an eye and when you finally caught up to him, he was crouched down in front of the display case with his nose pressed against the glass like an eager child. From that point on Chuck never went a moment without his cheeks full of food and a smile on his face. Caramel apples, popcorn, donuts and smores, you name it, he ate it. He wouldn't even go into the costume store with you, just because that would've meant he had to leave his treats outside.

"So all this food is part of the Fall traditions?" He asked as you walked back home.

You nodded in agreement.

"It's so beautiful," he exclaimed with a dreamy sigh. "But that's it? There's no more goodies?"

"Actually there is still one more treat you can have."

His eyes grew wide with excitement.

"Really! What is it? What is it?"

"Well I think it might have something to do with this slutty nurse's uniform I picked up at the costume store."

He studied you for a minute then you knew when it had registered with him by the huge grin that formed on his face.

"See Chuck, I knew you would like Fall once you realized you get all your favorite goodies."

In all the time you had known Chuck there were only two things he had a weakness for. You and Food. In the end though you knew he would do anything to do make you happy and if he was willing to do this for you, you were willing to do anything for him too.
