Alabama Republicans, under orders of the U.S. Supreme Court to redraw congressional districts to give minority voters a greater voice in elections, rejected calls Monday to craft a second majority-Black district and proposed a map that could test what is required by the judges’ directive.

Lawmakers must adopt a new map by Friday after the high court in June affirmed a three-judge panel’s ruling that Alabama’s existing congressional map — with a single Black district out of seven statewide — likely violated the Voting Rights Act. In a state where more than one in four residents is Black, the lower court panel had ruled in 2022 that Alabama should have another majority-Black congressional district or something “close to it” so Black voters have the opportunity to “elect a representative of their choice.”

Republicans, who have been resistant to creating a certain Democratic district, proposed a map that would increase the percentage of Black voters in the 2nd congressional district from about 30% to nearly 42.5%, wagering that will satisfy the court’s directive.

House Speaker Pro Tempore Chris Pringle, who serves as co-chairman of the state redistricting committee, said the proposal complies with the order to provide a district in which Black voters have the “opportunity to elect the representative of their choice.”

“The goal here, for me, was to provide an opportunity for African-Americans to be elected to Congress in the second congressional district,” Pringle said.

However, the National Redistricting Foundation, one of the groups that backed challenges to the Alabama map, called the proposal “shameful” and said it would be challenged.

“It is clear that Alabama Republicans are not serious about doing their job and passing a compliant map, even in light of a landmark Supreme Court decision,” said Marina Jenkins, executive director of the National Redistricting Foundation.

She called that a pattern seen throughout the state’s history “where a predominately white and Republican legislature has never done the right thing on its own, but rather has had to be forced to do so by a Court.”

The Permanent Legislative Committee on Reapportionment approved the proposal in a 14-6 vote that fell along party lines. The proposal was introduced as legislation Monday afternoon as lawmakers convened a special session to adopt a new map by a Friday deadline set by the three-judge panel. House Speaker Nathaniel Ledbetter said he believes the new district will be a swing district that could elect either a Democratic candidate or a Republican.

“I think that the models will show that it could go either way, probably. I think all the court’s asked for was a fair chance. I certaintly think that map does it. I don’t think there’s any question about that,” Ledbetter said.

Democrats accused Republicans of rushing the process and thwarting the court’s directive.

Sen. Vivian Davis Figures, a Democrat from Mobile, said the court was clear that the state should create a second majority-Black district or something close to it.

“42% is not close to 50. In my opinion 48, 49 is close to 50,” Figures said. She had urged colleagues to adopt a proposal by the plaintiffs in the Supreme Court case that would make the 2nd district 50% Black.

Under the Republican plan, the state would continue to have one majority Black district, which is now represented by Rep. Terri Sewell. The Black voting age population of that district would drop from about 55% to 51.6%

Rep. Chris England, a Democrat from Tuscaloosa, said he also doesn’t think the GOP proposal would satisfy the court’s directive. He said Republican lawmakers pushed through their proposal without a public hearing or producing an analysis of the partisan leanings of the district.

“The map that we adopted, nobody had any input on. There was no public input on it, not subject to a public hearing — and now it’s going to be the map of choice,” England said.

Deuel Ross, a lawyer with the NAACP Legal Defense and Educational Fund who argued the case before the Supreme Court, said they will challenge the proposal if it is enacted by the Alabama Legislature.

“Any plan with a low Black voting age population does not appear to comply with the Court’s instruction,” Ross wrote in an email.

Partisan politics underlies the looming redistricting fight. A higher percentage of Black voters increases the chances that a the seat will switch from GOP to Democratic control.

Pollster Zac McCrary said predicting a district’s partisan leanings depends on a number of metrics, but “getting a district too far below the mid 40s in terms of Black voter composition could certainly open the door for Republicans.”

ok so i got into an argument with my mom last night cuz i saw this dudes name and bust out laughing shes like “whats so so funny” i tell her “chris pringle sounds like kris kringle” (not word for word i kept laughing and starting my sentences over) she disagrees and is like “but thats not his name” so then later i send an image i took of the tv to my friend and call him. BEFORE I CAN EVEN ASK HIM IF IT REMINDS HIM OF ANYTHING HE BLURTS OUT “ITS SANTA” AND IM LIKE “I KNOW” and so i gloat to my mom about it and i talk to my friend some more and we get to talking about the norad santa tracker. he asks me to call the number listed on the site cause idk why and so i have to hang up to do that. it lists the number as 1 (877) HI-NORAD so i dial the letters like on a landline cuz i learned how that works recently cause of unrelated grandma stuff anyway so i accidentally call some random ass health organization and they start off by saying they have a special promotion going on and if im over 50 press 1 and if not press 2 im sittin there thinking “jeez is norad trying to catch weirdos or something what the heck” and press 2. THEN SOME RANDOM LADY PICKS AND IS LIKE “hi this blahblah with blehblehbleh health organization how can i help you” and im dead silent for two and a half seconds, regain my composure, and say “i thought this was the norad santa phone number.” after that i just realized i could tap the number on the site. so thanks Chris Pringle for causing the most embarrassing phone call of my life!

* ⋆ . · ⋆ y/n flipped the pages of her baby pink notebook, a red pen scribbling out poor made stars against the pages filled with songs she felt fit.

the album for the most part had been finished, with only ten tracks in the talks of being added. the finished song files collected dust in her laptop as they sat waiting for the day the public could hear it.

the expected tracklist post was yet to be on all platforms, or to even be made, but she still teased at some lyrics for fans to obsess and speculate over. countless of theories were being dogpiled on if the dropped lines were about a specific person, or if they were just made up in the heat of a moment.

y/n sat against her headboard of her bed. her skin glowed under the haziness of the lamp next to her as she flipped through the pages of her notebook.

a red pen that sat in her left hand moved swiftly, scribbling out poorly made doodles against the pages filled with songs she felt fit perfectly on the upcoming album.

no longer feeling as productive as she was, y/n hooked her legs to the edge of the bed and stood, stretching her arms out. she was bedsided all day, hunched over her side doing whatever to keep her busy and from getting up.

y/n looked down at the notebook, before closing and stuffing it farth beneath her pillow and. her phone from its rested charging position on her nightstand and walked to the kitchen.

there wasn’t much food in the apartment, she rarely felt the urge to cook something that wouldn’t take under twenty minutes and it was only her living there- hence why the cabinets were filled with only quick on the go snacks.

as she snacked on a small container of pringles, her mind wandered back to the uneasy thought of chris. it was weird, she barely knew anything about him other than the persona he displays on the shared channel, yet she was overthinking what he said about her on the podcast he had with his brothers.

maybe he wasn’t as much of a fan as he thought, most fans would instantly reply if they saw her message, but then again y/n felt that she didn’t have a right to be mad. many people before him had used her name for some seven minutes of fame, and he wouldn’t be the last.

with a burdening sigh, she pulled out her phone and opened instagram. she didn’t want to push this problem away, this time she was gonna see what was up.

swiping to her messages she clicked on chris’s messages. just as her fingers were about to type she came to the worst realization ever; she left him on read. not the other way around.

‘oh god’ she thought, ‘i’m the worst person ever’. the queasy feeling of shame and embarrassment filled her stomach as she stared at his old message.

‘ 3 weeks ago ‘ y/n clicked the button on the right side, turning her phone off. she frowned at her reflection. did it really take her that long to realize? she spent the few weeks busy out of her mind, yet she still had enough time to complain about chris’s wrong doing to her friends- yet it was her who was wrong in the end.

‘maybe i can fix this?’ y/n went back to their messages. she deeply wanted to apologize to him, being left on by someone he looked up to was probably hurtful, but maybe he’d give her the same treatment she gave him.

she couldn’t help but to keep thinking about it until it was the only thing she could do. y/n left the rest of the pringles to grow stale on her counter and went back to her room.

she was already laying back down. the guilt was already so heavy, she could barely lift herself up. y/n swiped through her contacts before calling the only person who would know what she’s talking about

“mad, i did the worst thing i think i can do as a person.” y/n whispered. she heard a door shut before the a voice piped up, “unless you dropped a vending machine on someone it couldn’t be that bad.”

“babe, you have to come!” the sweet voice belonging to madison echoed from the phones speaker. y/n was still in the same position she was two hours ago laying on her bed.

all the brunette could hear was occasional shuffling and the constant clacking of y/ns laptop as she typed out pure nonsense in a google doc. “y/n, cmon.” she begged.

madison was planning to throw a party tonight. it wasn’t for anything big, she viewed it as a ‘get to know each other’ type thing for all the friends she made in L.A. and almost everybody invited RSVP’d, besides y/n but she was always figured as a show up.

normally, y/n would’ve loved to go out and have fun meeting new friends, but tonight she was too busy stuck in her angsty feelings over her recent discovery to even think of going to any type of party.

“maddi, i love you, but i wanna stay home.” she whined out. madison let out a dramatic huff, not ready to give up. after a couple minutes of nonsensical back and forth, she suddenly remembered who she had invited, knowing the mention might be the push to send y/n over the edge.

“what if i said chris was gonna be going?” y/n’s breath hitched. her fingers were hovering over the keyboards keys as she processed the undertones in her friends words. “which chris?” she hesitantly asked.

with, or even without madisons silence, y/n already knew which one she was talking about.

she threw her head back on her pillow. y/n was anything but ready to face chris after the accidental mishaps. “pleasee, it’ll be so fun!” madison pleaded.

the blonde sighed at her friend. it was only one party, one night, and there’d be plenty of people there that the chances of even seeing chris or his lookalikes would be unlikely.

y/n grabbed ahold of her phone as she stood, already walking to the closet. “if it gets boring after 30 minutes, i’m leaving.” she decided.

madison cheered into the microphone, quickly getting over the sad act she was putting up, “deal!! i’ll see you there, party girl.”

y/n let out a sigh when she heard the ‘click’ signaling the end of the call. ‘only thirty minutes’ she thought. y/n had to keep repeating mental reminders as she got ready in a short black dress that had blue feathers attached to the top.

‘thirty minutes, and we won’t see him. you’ll be fine.’ was the only thing she could say to herself as she walked out to her car.

I can't believe 2023 is over, honestly. This year has had some ups and downs for sure but overall I'm so proud of what I've achieved. I started the year mainly writing Stranger Things fics, and while I still love that fandom and all of the wonderful people I met there, my inspiration for writing it was beginning to fade.

And along came 9-1-1. I am so happy with where I've ended up, and for all the new friends I've made since I found this show back in April!

Eddie tried not to stare. He really tried. He didn't notice at first, too preoccupied with the tub of pringles he'd been making his way through while talking about Corroded Coffin's last gig. Sure, he'd noticed the shorts. The ridiculous amount of leg Steve was showing, the way they hugged his ass, but it wasn't until Steve moved, lifted one foot to rest on the cushion, knees spread, that Eddie noticed another feature of the shorts. Or: Steve puts on a bit of an accidental show.

I was at Marcus & Briley's wedding. I've wanted to share my experience but I'm an active member of the gvf fandom & I am terrified of the backlash.

My moots know who I am & have heard all this but I guess I just wanted to share it with the rest of you guys anonymously. Just an FYI first though, I don't know Marcus & Briley well. They allocated around 50 "plus one" spots to their closest friends. I was a "plus one" for my cousin. Who has worked with Briley for years. She knew gvf were invited & very kindly took me with her. Ok, so here it is.

1. I was sat on the table next to gvf. There was Josh, Micah, Sam, Hannah, Jita, Jake & the Ida Mae couple on their table along with Danny who moved to sit at the edge of our table throughout the night.

2. Yes, I spoke to all the boys during the course of the evening but I didn't ask for a selfie as honestly it didn't feel right at any point in the conversation. I didnt really want them to know how big a fan I am. I spoke to Danny first we talked about how beautiful Briley looked. Then later on when every1 got up to dance I was pulled up by a guy on my table that was goofing off with Josh. Josh gave me a glo stick and said something along the lines of "we need more of these." I didn't speak to Sam until I got chatting to Hannah first who was so sweet. She complimented my shoes & I said I wish i could go barefeet like Sam and he heard me and told me to just go for it. I didnt because i hate dirty floors 🤣. Finally Jake, probably the best one. He didn't get up to dance but Jita did. And she tried to get him up bless her. Anyway when we were all stood at the side of the dancefloor around our tables i took my chance. I said to him "aww why dont you get up and dance" he laughed and said "its ok im not much of a dancer" lol.

3. Josh & Micah are not a couple. Aside from giving off brother vibes when you see them in person, whilst I was chatting to Hannah she casually dropped it in that Micah was also one of the "plus one" attendees because Josh is a single pringle. (Her exact words)

4. Jake & Jita are very touchy feely. They always had either a hand on each other or would touch each other in their expressions. Jita is very "motherly" in her mannerisms. If that makes sense? I got the impression she does alot for Jake in terms of their everyday life. I spoke to her once and she called Jake her partner.

5. Their sister Ronnie lives in Nashville.

6. Danny was the biggest social butterfly. He moved from their table the most and seemed to know the most people there. He didnt stay in one group too long but always went back to his table after venturing out.

7. Josh can hold his drink. Like...that boy can driiiinkkkk. He was wasted by the end of the night (we all were) but i would say he appeared merry until the last hour. He danced the most.

8. Sam cant dance. Like at all. Like not even a little bit. He tried. But it was just so...nope. But he looked like he was having so much fun he didnt care.

9. Sam & Hannah arent as affectionate as a couple as jake & jita are.

10. I got talking to Chris the guy from Ida Mae and he told me Jake has been in the studio with them recently.

I could go on but thats the stuff i have been gatekeeping. It was a blissful night really the room was full of love. Marcus & Briley looked perfect for each other. I wish them all the best and will never forget my night in their company.

Just got done watching Iron Claw. It was pretty good though if your familiar with the Von Erich story definitely know that it’s not a dramatized documentary. Like the most talked about is how the Mike in the movie is actually a composite of the real Mike and Chris von Erich who was the youngest brother. Mike and Chris didn’t want to become wrestlers but listened to their fathers pressuring but while Mike wanted to do other things with his life Chris had no business being in a ring because he had brittle bones and asthma and the only program he worked before he killer himself involved him fighting Percy Pringle aka Paul Bearer who was a manager. I kinda understand the pacing issues that would come with having another brother who also dies from suicide and how that could be numbing for an audience.

Though on another level something I noticed is how movie toned down a lot of Fritz’s most controversial and/or abusive behaviors. Like he’s shown as an authoritarian parent but he doesn’t pressure someone with brittle bones and asthma to be a pro wrestler and they removed a lot of his gross feeling behavior about the deaths of his sons. Like after David died they held a memorial show in a stadium and it was by far the most successful show WCCW ever did and the next year they kept the show dedicated to David and it started to have this weird vibe that WCCW’s answer to Wrestlemania was something centered on someone’s death. When Mike died from suicide a month before the show they retooled it to be a memorial tribute and it gave a lot of people the vibe that Fritz was exploiting Mike’s suicide just to boost ticket sales because instead of a somber tone there was VIP ringside seat sales and a bikini mud wrestling match.

I think that might also be why MJF’s hyped role as the fake Von Erich cousin Lance (who was invented by Fritz to replenish their numbers after Mike’s death) is effectively not in the movie like he’s in but basically as an out of focus extra during a montage. If they decided to remove the death-exploitation subplot that would mean removing Lance bc that was something that the audience could see through and contributed to people turning their backs on Fritz and his family. That and omitting the story the real Kevin told of how a broken Fritz told him that the only reason he didn’t kill himself because he doesn’t have the guts his brothers had feels like they intentionally wanted to soften Fritz. I kinda have a feeling that this may be due to the wishes of the real Kevin bc he’s both upfront about the abuse from his father but also shows filial loyalty to him bc it’s complicated

So how goddamn ecstastic Tim from Wave-verse gonna be when Light did end up being a thing that exists. Also how Steph is gonna end with Cass, does Tim also end with someone? Kon? Bernard? Is he gonna stay a single pringle?

Oh god this is actually a really complicated question.

I don't know how the sidekick timelines of this verse work out. I do not. I haven't really solidified on if there's a 'swap', or if Steph just takes Dick's place and things progress from there as normal. I also don't know to what degree I want to AU things - for example, I want Mia (teen prostitute with HIV who canon kicks to the ground repeatedly and who I want to stan) to be the first Speedy instead of Roy, so a part of me wants to fudge the world to elevate the unloved and abused by canon sidekicks, especially the women. I don't know to what degree I want to do that either. So get back to me!

But I think Kon would be difficult to swing. Superman makes his debut in 1998, when Tim's already 14, and unless I want to rewrite Kon's entire backstory and bump his age older than the rest of Young Justice just for shipping purposes, then the ages really wouldn't match up. And I don't want to fuck with the timelines just for shipping purposes. Kon & Young Justice should be about Damian's age, but that thought gives me psychic damage and I'll always be partial to Damian's Young Justice that exclusively lives in my head (Jon, Irey West II, Sin, Milagro if I can swing it). Jon's kind of an over-used and over-loved character, but I am kind of JonDami and it might be interesting to mix things up and make Jon be Clark's clone. Or use Chris, who is the most forgotten about character known to man, but who I'm still fond of. Something off the wall like that.

The really obvious answer here is to just do Bernard. And I have nothing against Bernard or Timber, it's - it's fine. It's fine. It's very normal. It's ordinary and wholesome and I really can't help but notice that every canon gay couple in comics is the blandest, most banal and inoffensive whitebread shit, Billy Kaplan/Teddy sucks, and every gay couple in canon comics is like that, and the canon gay couple is fine, but in the comics Tim changed his costume to look more like Kon's after he died, kissed his girlfriend out of mutual grief, and holed himself up in his basement to try and clone him. Okay? Okay. That's what Tim's homosexual agenda looks like. It's not normal. When Tim is obsessed with you he is never, ever, ever normal about it.

That is the only way I can physically imagine Tim liking somebody. If he was insane about it. I'm sorry. I can't imagine New Wave!Tim having a normal fucking relationship with a normal fucking guy.

That being said, I'd still like Tim to have a partner. I don't know who, though! Without Kon or Steph I have no clue. Something to think about.
