King of hearts, chishiya x reader
Warnings: gore, violence, niragi (implied attempted assuault), drugs
Please put on a set of handcuffs and take your seat behind the table.
Kuina approached the plaque, waiting for you. She was in no state to have her hands restricted, having cleared the Jack of spades recently the flimsy bandages you wrapped around her arms could fall apart any moment. You stared at the handcuffs.
“I can do this.”
She understood, offering a good luck hug as she descended down the stairs, waving at you one more time. It was hardly believable that she could kick your ass in seconds when she looked this adorable.
Only two sets of handcuffs remained on the table when you had approached it. You struggled a bit with restraining your left hand, prompting you to use the table as a support. They locked into place with a mechanical click. The game venue was a penthouse. With the posh furniture and extravagant accents it reminded you of The Beach. The entrance was a hallway in a U shape, splitting off into two directions, a balcony and further into the apartment itself. Trying the balcony door, you had no luck. It still had a modern look to it although some of nature had tried to break through the glass panes, it seemed untouched by the Borderlands so far. Screens decorated most of the walls, with arrows guiding you towards what you presumed was the table instructions mentioned. You needed to make a mental note of the layout before following them. The apartment consisted of two bedrooms joined to their respective walk-in closets and bathrooms as well as a game room main feature of which was a set up pool table.
Amidst your search the familiar feminine robotic voice announced: “Registration now closed. Game will begin shortly.”
The shelves were full of liquor bottles. Reaching for one of them you checked them for expiration date or the year they were made, which was absent, as to be expected. You checked the drawers under them, thanks to your brief time spent with Niragi you recognized the smell of cannabis, making it easy to conclude what was in the other packages.
“Excuse me.” A girl dressed in a uniform-like dress passed you, brushing against your shoulder. She had a shaved head and a backpack thrown over her right shoulder. She must be the last contestant. With your pre-game routine finished, you followed soon after her.
The room unveiling before you was an open area with another entrance to the balcony. Similar shelves as to ones in the game room surrounded a giant screen with the familiar words: GAME. You sat down. Behind the table were eight contestants, excluding you. One seat remained vacant. To your right sat a woman in her early thirties, hair slicked back into a bun held by a clip matching in the cherry red color to her nails. The empty seat was the head of the table to your left, the other was occupied by an older woman in a denim dress. Pair of men noticed your presence, whispering something before one spoke up.
“She was at The Beach.”
He nudged his friend and leaned forwards, putting his hands under his chin. The girl that entered before you sat two seats to the right at the opposite end of the table. Her backpack awkwardly behind her as she sat on the edge of the chair.
“Game start”
The screen lit up simultaneously as the voice spoke the words.
“Game: Cops and Robbers
Difficulty: King of Hearts
Time limit: 24 hours
Weapons not allowed.”
Time limit 24 hours? That explains the beds and stockpile of alcohol and food. You took another glance at your opponents, three of them grew nervous with the mention of time, interesting. Your train of thought was halted by spotting a familiar white jacket out of the corner of your eye. Chishiya Shuntaro. That bastard. A wave of disappointment washed over your body, seeping deep into your bones. Of course he would be so smug as to take on a King game. He just stood there, unbothered, looking at the screen. You told yourself he was dead. He was dead, that's why he never showed up. That's why he didn't respond to any messages left at game sites by Kuina or you. Not wanting to look at him a second longer, the focus was shifted to the screen again. Yet you felt all your emotions centered at the blonde asshole leaning against the wall. What little shown of his face illuminated in white light revealed the heavy eye bags under his feline-like eyes.
“Rules:
- Keep the robber, the king, from taking off his handcuffs. If he takes off his handcuffs it is game over for every cop.
-If a cop is in handcuffs by the end of the game, it is game over for them.
- Each player will be dealt five cards. Among these fifty cards there are ten cards with the combination for a key along with the handcuff number they correspond to. Imputing a wrong code results in Game Over. Ten contain information about players, ten are general statement cards which reveal a sentence truthful about one or more participants, ten are blank cards, ten are question cards to which the question must be answered truthfully. Failing to do so results in Game Over.
-If a participant leaves their seat during a round it is game over
-Once ten cards have been played the participants have freedom to move however they want, to continue playing all participants must sit at the table before the end of the break. Each break lasts one hour, if the time limit ends during a break it is game over for everyone.
-Key cards of a deceased participant shall be added to the participant following their turn, Information, Key card of numbers corresponding to deceased players, Truth, Blank and Statement cards will be rendered invalid, playing them results in game over. Playing another player's card also results in Game over.
-Game Clear, each of the cops have been freed and the robber-King of Hearts remains handcuffed.”
Chishiya took his seat as the rules finished being read.
A low whisper arose among the participants as the rules kept appearing. The game seemed simple enough, it is hearts after all. The real problem is the human aspect. You glanced at your handcuffs, 4. The lady next to you was 3 and the girl with the shaved head was 6 or 8. The two guys that sat together were probably 1st to arrive based on their seats. Furthest from the entrance. Chishiya had to have been here for a longer time too but the registration was not time limited so he might as well have arrived sooner than them. Based on how untouched the alcohol and what your perspective view of food supply allowed it couldn't have been more than a day since the last re-supply. Although this information somehow comforted you, the identity of the king could not be predicted based on numbers or their arrival.
“The round has now started, all participants must remain in their seats”
A cubical hole opened up before each seat, revealing a pack of given cards. The person opposite you, a bulky man in his fifties reached out for his pack, hesitantly everyone followed. Two truth cards, one key card number 6, one statement and one blank. You ignored him, but with a sort of bitter melancholic feeling. You wanted to look, to scream in his face that you and Kuina risked splitting from the group because of him. The game was more important though. It is best to act like you dont know eachother, he must have realized it, and you were not going to hinder his plan. He was your best bet on clearing the game.
“Lets just give every girl the key card, they cannot be the king” one of the beach guys suggested
The girl with the shaved head laughed in his face, leaning closer to him. “When was that in the rules?”
“Every game we have been to, the king is a man and the queen is a woman,” his friend retorted.
“Honey boy this is hearts. Anyone can be heartless” she paused “or be the King of them”
After a brief moment of silence, a girl with a loose ponytail raised a card, before she was interrupted by the man next to her, he reached for her forearm, placing one of his hands on her, and made a stop motion with his other one, although you could not see it well since he was on your side of the table, furthest from you.
“We should start with Statement and Information cards. Do not reveal any key cards until we know who is the king” the man stated with a matter of fact tone of voice.
The woman next to me nodded and shifted in her seat. The first card was played. Statement card. The girl with a loose ponytail carefully placed it in front of her.
“Two people in this room killed someone before entering the borderlands”
“Murders!” the woman next to me shrieked, taking a shaken breath. “One of them has to be King”
“Killing someone has no connection to being the King, just like being a man” you commented.
The two guys that recognized you from the beach leaned into one another, revealing their cards to each other.
“I am next,” The man in a business suit exclaimed, removing his cuffed hands from the girl. He placed down an information card.
“Yoko Suzuryu, age 17 is engaged to her teacher, a man 18 years her senior.”
You could just imagine the type of smirk that Chishiya had right now, one eyebrow slightly raised; amused and intrigued. He was often like that when he forced you to play cards or whatever with him. He mostly always won because you were distracted- he looked pretty like that.
The girl in the ponytail gasped, hands flying to her mouth “How did they-?”
“Got a type ei girl” the man opposite me laughed a breathy raspy laugh, clearly a smoker.
“It's okay darling, it's alright” The woman at the other head of the table comforted her. The girl sniffled and wiped her tears on her sleeve. The woman next to you placed another statement card.
“Three people in this room are smokers, one is trying to quit”
It was your turn next. The decision was either a blank or a statement, however you needed to think about your choice wisely, if you remained with the Key card until the end just like everyone else the end game would leave you to play it ultimately dooming the number 6 were it to be the King to win. That card has to remain with you until 6 is dead. Statement.
“One participant in this game has masturbated to another one while they slept in the same room”
What? Everyone at the table fell silent, choosing to ignore the statement, especially the boy duo from the beach.
One of them, the one wearing shorts and a button up shirt, played a Key card. Number 3, my neighbor jumped up and reached for the code.
“No!” The man in the business suit tried to stop her. A laser burnt through her head before she realized her fatal mistake. Her body slid onto the floor, blood pooling at the soles of my feet. Yoko, the girl now closest to me shrieked, moving her chair towards her neighbor.
She was number 3, which meant you got to take her cards, Key for 10 and 7…and invalid Truth along with an invalid Blank. Those two you pocketed. Perhaps a possible strategy is giving someone an invalid card to eliminate them.
“What the fuck Genji? Whaddya play the Key for man?” his friend raised his voice at him
“It's not girls, I'm telling you the king is a dude. I didn't know she was gonna leap for it like that” Genji defended himself.
The round ended with 6 statements, 2 sets of information and 1 of truth and blank each. The line up was as follows:
Yoko Suzuruyu, engaged to her teacher sitting inches from
Ryuji Sakamoto, former investment banker and father of two. His Information card revealed the following: Ryuji Sakamoto, age 43, is father to only one of his two children.
DECEASED
You
Genji, beach member, whose information card was: Genji Fudo, age 19, has been kicked out of his recreational volleyball team for being bisexual
Older woman who comforted Yoko
The man opposite of you
The other former beach member
Chishiya
“Right” Chishiya stated as he presented the empty card. “Shall we continue?”
“The round has now ended, all participants are free to leave their seats”
Yoko sprung from her chair running off to the bathroom, both Ryuji and the older woman followed after her. The man opposite you walked off towards the balcony, lighting a cigarette once turned away. The two men that recognized you from the beach struck up a conversation with you, one sitting in the space between you and Chishiya, the other one shifting in his spot as he tried to stand comfortably.
“So, how have you been since the beach ended?” Genji spoke “Are you still with that Arisu guy?”
“We got separated.” You responded in half truth to most of their questions, the other guy, the one still in a swimsuit was called Daichi. Both of them were in police academy.  Why have they not spoken to Chishiya? He was also an executive, and you two were often together…
“When did you guys join the beach?”
“Two days before the hearts game.” Daichi said.
That explains it, they had barely enough time to join the militants and get high. They decided to stop pestering you and after what seemed like the entire hour they walked off to get alcohol. You turned their offer of joining in, you saw alcohol as more of an escape than fun pastime activity.
The first time you drank in the borderlands Chishiya was there for you, that was the first time you felt like he truly did feel emotion, being so cold before even towards Kuina, that night and following day changed your opinion. The human elevator. You had survived by tying yourself to the elevator via a rope, not the best of strategies-it resulted in harsh burns across your arms. It had started with Niragi celebrating his game, as he put it finally good target practice, by chugging half a vodka bottle like water. Which was pretty impressive. He lost his shirt in the process. He sprawled on the seats in the VIP executive booth where you had been noting down the cards gained, you were number 4, responsible for the ledger of cards and number of duplicates. To be honest you had possibly the riskiest position when it came as far as executive duties went, sure Aguni was responsible for all militants but if there was a card missing after being collected you would be the prime suspect and trials were not a thing with Niragi around. That's how you ended up downing the rest of the bottle, trying to stay on his good side when you indulged his demands.
“Come on? That's all you can handle?” Niragi egged you on “One more come on”
He grabbed your hand harshly and forced a shot glass in your hand. You downed it, the taste becoming too much, your face scrunched up. “I need a mixer Niragi”
“Alright princess you go bless the Hatter with your little notes and Ill go grab you a drink” he stood up, shaking his head violently.
With a very unsteady walk you made it to Hatter's room, knocking, one of his bikini girls opened, calling him over. He took the thing, smiling widely as he realized your state. “Finally gave in?”
“Niragi forced me” you mumbled
“Enjoy the… night then” he winked and walked off.
When you came back Niragi was eyeing Usagi and Arisu who just stood at the edge of the crowd.
“Leave them be.” you sat back down, head already light and fuzzy.
Niragi pushed a green soda in your direction.
“Cheers” he said with a smirk, unaware of his gaze you downed the entire glass, it tasted slightly bitter but you had no clue what brand or sort of soda it was so you didn't comment on it.
You two talked about your games, Niragi stirred the conversation by talking about his gun and showing off his piercings.
“I think you should size them down a little, the one on your nose doesn't suit your face”
“Oh that is the wrong size of mine you should worry about” he sneered, looking around. The crowd was just getting wild, so it must have been right before midnight when you passed out.
“Up we go”
With that, you were holding onto his shoulders as he carried you to your room. The thoughts in your head were blurred, you were aware of your surroundings well enough that when you saw Chishiya passing by you threw Niragir's hand off and came up to Chishiya instead. Niragi rolled his eyes, deciding it was not worth it. Chishiya was the biggest bother of all to him, and as much as he would love to see him pissed off he turned around and went back hunting.
There is not much you remember from the morning after, you woke up and took whatever pill Chishiya left on your bedside table. He was sleeping soundly in an armchair next to your bed.  He cared enough to make you able to function that day. Of course you realized what Niragi was trying to do, and as pathetic as it sounds you were not about to confront him, he caused riots unprompted so a tantrum from being called out was not something anyone needed. When Chishiya awoke he made small talk, went to get you some food and came back. Not once during the day he tried to leave.
“You know, this makes me think you actually tolerate me.” you joked with him.
“I have your Key card” you turned to him.
“And nothing to say to me apparently” he replied.
“8593” you read the numbers to him. He stood up, one hand in his pocket. “Lets go”
You followed suit, approaching the number 10 vault. “We thought you were dead, I thought you died Chishiya.”
Your defeated confession did not phase him at all. He was focused on making the vault open.
“Then you underestimate me”
“Bullshit, you know what this is about.” you raised your voice, lowering it when you became aware of how thin the walls are.
“You promised me, you promised that if we clear the number cards you would be there for me. So far, even seeing Niragi was more of a comfort than you and he tried to assault two out of three girls in my last game.” you whispered, the image of Niragi over you flashing in the front of your brain while staring into his dark eyes. “You pretend to care, but you cannot bother to show it Chishiya”
You turned around, hearing the click of his handcuffs becoming undone.
Chishiya followed your figure as you disappeared through the door. Niragi was alive, that was going to be a hindrance. He had hurt you, and he was not around to stop him this time. Even in his thoughts you came first, he hated that you did. Niragi posed a threat to you. That is why you couldn't have been more wrong. He cared. When he was around you he could not think straight, as if an alarm was constantly going off in his head. He just didn't know how to show it to you. That night when he showed up at your room, he had gone over what he was going to say countless times in his head. Seeing you arrive with Niragi, he was caught off guard. No words needed, he took care of you. Falling asleep while watching over you. In a sense that was the best and worst thing that happened, he did not need an excuse to spend the day with you, but he had no plan, he was afraid that you would say no to him.
He hated that you were in a game with him, that you chose the seat which made your hands so close to his he could feel the warmth. He rubbed his wrists.
Without a word you waited out the forty minutes. Yoko entered with Sakamoto's hand on her shoulder, the woman following them. He seemed to genuinely comfort her before sitting her down. Chishiya came through the doorway, keeping his handcuffs on, preparing to drop them as soon as the card was played. This round, you sat so that Chishiya was in your field of vision.
“The round has now started, all participants must remain in their seats”
Yoko began the round with a Truth card.
“A Truth card has been played, player ask your question.”
Yoko looked at the woman to her right, she smiled back at Yoko and nodded.
“Are you Hiro Takeguya?”
“Yes.”
Yoko looked at Sakamoto, who looked around at everybody, producing a Truth card. Staring at Takeguya.
“A Truth card has been played, player ask your question.”
“You” he pointed at the man  “why did you kill your daughter?”
He laughed, reached for the pack of cigarettes he had been smoking prior to the round. Took one, lit it and took a drag. “I refuse to answer”
A laser shot through his head. He died leaning back in his chair, cigarette falling to the ground where Chishiya put it out with his foot. Number 8 reached to get his cards, tossing all of them face-up. Disappointed she commented “All invalids”
It was your turn, first you showed everyone your Key card for number 7. Tossing it on the ground. There was no use for it anymore. You played Key card for Chishiya. He put his handcuffs on the table.
“You told him the code before the start of the round?”  Shaved head girl questioned. “You working together then?”
Chishiya smirked as if the prospect of you two being affiliated amused him “No”
Jesus this man was insufferable. You looked at him, and looked back down to further imprint the idea of something else than teamwork going on. He already must have a plan then, you wouldn't be surprised if he was trying to make it seem like he was outdoing the king, proving he is worthy of being his opponent. It seemed like the face card representatives liked knowing that they are the best, disproving any challengers and Chishiya was making good use of this. He just proved himself to not be the king and challenged the king to a match of wits and manipulation.
Genji followed up with an Information card.
“Hiro Takeguya, age 59 is the Dollhouse killer, responsible for the torture and subsequent death of his daughter”
The woman in the blue dress played a Truth card.
“A Truth card has been played, player ask your question.”
“The blonde man, what did you do to her?” she inquired.
“I have not touched her since the game started.” Chishiya replied with a cold expression.
“A Truth card has been played, player ask your question.”
“Follow up” the girl with the shaved head asked in an accusatory tone  “What did you do to her?”
She kicked Sakamoto under the table.
Instead of Sakamoto, Yoko replied. “I am going to leave this game, I had wanted to give up for some time now, they just gave me the comfort I needed. Please help them find the king.”
Sakamoto closed his eyes and replied “Comforted her.”
The round continued. Daichi played the card for his own number. With Chishiyas statement card another break started.
“Every participant in this room knows Niragi Suguru”
With the mention of Niragi Yoko started bawling her eyes out, Niragi has that effect on people. Although considering her confession, she knew this was the end. She thanked everyone with a bow and stood up.
“The round has now ended, all participants are free to leave their seats”
Daichi, Genji and you stood up, presumably going to unlock their handcuffs and you to the kitchen area to get snacks. Your choice was a green tea drink, taiyaki and Chishiyas favorite biscuits. In a way he reminded you of a cat, liking only very specific foods and being adamant about wearing his favorite jacket. These little things are what reminded you that you cared for him, really you did. And that was enough for you.
Chishiya waited for you, signaling you to follow him. You went into the master bedroom and he closed the door behind him. You sat down on the bed, where he joined you. You handed him the sweets. “I'm sorry Chishiya, I shouldn't have said all that before. I have no right to judge you. ”
“This room kind of looks like your room at the beach.” he played with the packaging.
“Yeah, I suppose it does” you laughed at his attempt to ease the tension, it did not work in the slightest.
“Did” Chishiya paused, setting aside his biscuits “Did Niragi hurt you?”
“He tried.” you sighed “We were up against a former band, the King of Clubs team. They had outnumbered Tatta, gaining enough points to send most of us into a hopeless spiral. Kuina said her goodbyes. Me and Usagi ran off. When Niragi realized he was going to die as well, he went after Usagi. And when Arisu stopped him he went after me. I made peace with it. I think some part of me felt like I owed him something, for getting away once and I stopped fighting him. Were it not for Arisu winning us the game there would have been nothing to stop him.”
You subconsciously dug your thumb into your palm, drawing a trickle of blood. Chishiya reached for your hand, taking both of them in his. Running his thumb over your skin.
“That night that Niragi drugged you, I was not just passing by. I was waiting for you, hoping you would walk by.” he let go with one hand and pulled his hood down.
“I wanted to tell you that you make me feel like your whole world. I promised to be with you after the ten of hearts so that you wouldn't leave the beach with anyone else. I did not want to lose you. I care about you and I never got the chance to properly say that, until now.”
He let go of your hands. Wrapping his arms around you. “I want to be with you”
You remained silent.
“So do I.”
The kiss came naturally, your face instinctively moved to his. Lips meeting midway. It was just brief, natural. Chishiya leaned back in, kissing you once more. By the time it was time for the third round you had finished your snacks, laying in bed together. Chishiya holding your hand in his while explaining his conclusion to you.
“It is Sakamoto, then,” you said.
“I have no doubts about it” Chishiya replied.
“So, do you plan on calling him out or making a drastic reveal? I know you'd like that.” you stood up, stretching your hands a bit. The handcuffs made it hard to move them.
“No, I would rather spend my truth cards on making you confess your love to me.” he half smirked, not looking away from his cards.
“You are unbearable Chishiya,” you teased.
You returned first, sat down and took out your cards, rearranging them on the table. The round began with only half the participants. Chishiya once again sat down last. The body of Yoko's female companion was covered with a sheet, Yoko crying softly and Sakamoto sitting stone faced. You discarded the Key card for number 6.
“We should start” Sakamoto proclaimed
“Where are her cards?” Daichi asked.
“All blanks” Sakomoto looked at Daichi
“Not possible” the girl with the shaved head retorted and pointed at the sheet from which a hand of the older woman stuck out. “She had a Key card.”
“For Yoko” Sakamoto said, lifting Yoko's hands, showing she no longer had handcuffs. Yoko jerked her hand back.
“The round has now started, all participants must remain in their seats”
Yoko and Sakamoto each played a Blank card. You played a Truth card.
“A Truth card has been played, player ask your question.”
“Sakamoto, did the woman at the head of the table have one or two Key cards.”
“One” Sakamoto calmly replied.
You hoped Chishiya caught onto what you were trying to do. If he asked Yoko the same question and her answer would differ it would mean that the king is an exception to rules - proving the Kings identity to the others.
Genji threw out a Blank card and the girl played an Information card.
“Chishiya Shuntaro, age 25, the son of the chief of directors at Tokyo general hospital was disowned by his father”
“I knew you were familiar!” Daichi yelled “You burned Niragi!”
“Right.” Chishiya smiled slyly.
You knew of Chishiyas father, very little, but enough to know not to pry right now.
“Why didn't you say you were from the beach, man? We'd have invited you to drink with us” Daichi asked as he threw out a Key card for Genji.
You, shaved head and Sakamoto were the only ones in handcuffs right now. Yoko also seemed to notice.
“Her! It's her! She is the king!” she frantically waved her hands, pointing to you.
The girl with the shaved head, leaned back, quietly murmuring “Fuck, Id never have thought”
“Alright then, we just have to unlock my handcuffs, wait and its game clear.” Sakamoto leaned back, adjusting his position.
Chishiya reached for you hand under the table, whispering in your ear. “Im going to enjoy this”
You squeezed his hand, suppressing a smile.
Chishiya revealed his cards. “Good thing I have this then”
“Yes! Good job everyone” Yoko beamed, looking over at Sakamoto.
“Yoko,” Chishiya slid forward a card.
“A Truth card has been played, player ask your question.”
“How many key cards did the woman at the head of the table have?”
Yoko looked at Sakamoto, then at Chishiya. “One”
A laser charred through her head, blood pooling and dripping down the table.
“Holy shit. It's you.” The girl with the shaved head
“The round has now ended, all participants are free to leave their seats”
Sakamoto rushed to get Yoko's cards, but the girl with the shaved head stopped him.
“6343” she announced. With the way Sakamoto was stretched across the table it was easy to peek at his cards. He had an Information and Key card.
“7-”
“7117” Chishiya beat you to it.
“You lost” the girl pushed him to his seat sticking out her tongue, mocking him.
He had a disgusted scowl on his face.
“You wanna stay behind and get wasted?” Daichi turned to Genji. They shared a high five and all giddy, left the room. Daichi yelled “We will watch him get shot”
“While doing shots” Genji laughed.
Those two really are something. You sometimes ache to have such a simple mindset, being able to enjoy careless pleasures. Chishiya placed his hand on your back. Careless pleasure huh.
“Lets go.” he urged, the crinkly paper in his pocket gave him away. He'd stolen two if not three packets of the biscuits.
“Look at you, robber.”
“Oh I'm not the one in handcuffs am I?”
“Would you like to be” you looked at him, expecting an equally smart ass comeback.
“I think I prefer this.” he gently pushed your body against the wall, pulling your hands to the side, careful not to hurt your wrists and leaned in for a kiss. He had this stupid expression on his face, intense eyes but smiling.
The girl was in the vault room, imputing her code. “Hey, you two, thanks for whatever you did back there. I'm Mima by the way”
Sound of handcuffs dropping echoed and she groaned slightly “Jesus, if I hadn't stopped smoking I'd say I need a cigarette.”
You grabbed the key, Chishiya taking over and unlocking your handcuffs. Chishiya leaned into your ear, placing the set of handcuffs in his pocket along with the key “Were keeping these”
You felt your cheeks burn up slightly. What have you gotten into? Rather what will you get into you…
“Mima, Im Chishiya, this is (YN/)” he chirped.
The tree of you walked out. Kuina was sitting outside, playing with her Lucky charm (which was literally a bomb). You greeted her with a hug.
“Kuina, this is Mima.” you introduced them.
“And this is, well” you tried to prepare Kuina, Chishiya walked out the building, eyes closed, hands inside his pocket.
“You son of a bitch” Kuina smiled widely.
An explosion sounded above you, right, the airship. Everybody realized, started walking wherever.
“I have a hideout nearby.” Chishiya raised his voice.
“Great, I need a fucking bed.” Kuina raised her hand.
“Right there with you Kuina,” Mima added.
“Oh yeah, we do too.” Chishiya raised one of his eyebrows in your direction, thanks to Kuina and Mima being in front of you they didn't catch his expression.
“You're insufferable,” you said.
“Oh you won't be saying that when Im done with you”
“I hate you”
“Do you” Chishiya pulled out a Truth card from the game. You stopped running, amusing him, placing a soft kiss on his cheek. “Never”

hi :) which chishiya fic do u guys want to see next ?
1. “greed” . a moment of rest for you two: no games nor violence, just peace. [chishiya x reader, in which they rest beside each other in an abandoned garden. based off of greed by jiwoo.]
2. untitled . chishiya, who shows nothing but detest towards you. and you, who shows nothing but care and respect for him. it’s almost embarrassing when he realizes how motherly you are to him, and as much as he “dislikes” your presence, a part of him (his inner child) yearns for your care. [chishiya x med classmate!reader, in which you simply cannot stop caring for chishiya — not for the sake of love, but just because you want to.]
3. “work hard!” . he was content with the neutral comfort and safe distance your relationship had (with the rare affectionate moments), but seeing you now in a position where he is responsible for your survival makes him wish he had done a little better. [chishiya x ill!reader, in which his lover develops an illness, and although cure-able, it sends him head first into an unfamiliar spiral of anxiety. why? because he’s responsible for the surgery.]

“Usagi? Chishiya?” Y/n’s heart was practically beating out of their chest. Less than 24 hours ago they and the 4 others along with the people who had survived were trying to figure out who the witch was at the beach. Now they’re all running for their lives, screaming at the top of their lungs and being shot at by the King of Spades, who nobody knows who he is, or where he even came from.
Everywhere Y/n turned there was either a dead body, or a person in the middle of getting shot. Which ever it was, it made them pick up speed and hide behind a car. Hyperventilating like no other. Bullets hit the car, shattering the windows, Y/n threw their hands up to their mouth to silence their noises. Making sure not to scream no matter how much it was on the tip of their tongue. They would’ve used the gun in their hand to get the man, but they would’ve failed.
If they wanted to live Y/n had to look for their friends. But how could they when bullets are flying from every which way. And they can’t even look for the one shooting at them.
Until it went at least a little silent. “Hey.” Y/n snapped their head to the car next to them in horror but settled down once they recognized Arisu and Usagi. “It’s just us. Kuina and Chishiya are on the other side.” there was a long pause before they knew how to respond. “What do we do?” the two were quiet for a second. “Survive.” That was a lot to do especially in these circumstances. Y/n didn’t know which they preferred. Niragi and his trigger happy fingers at the beach, or a man wearing a cloak shooting at everyone.
What they didn’t know was that Ann and Tatta were coming to help.
With a screech a car stopped in front of them. “Get in!” They watched Kuina, Usagi, and Arisu get in but realized there were no more seats and Chishiya trailing behind slowly then stopped. A bomb had been thrown their way. “Go get out of here!” They yelled, there was no time before the King of Spades starting shooting again. “Y/n! Chishiya!” Kuina was just as stressed as the rest of them.
Tatta put more pressure on the gas peddle and they were gone. “They’ll survive.” And Y/n was alone with dead bodies on the ground and smoke blurring their vision. Which gave them no choice but to walk around the city to find a plan to join up with their friends, keep playing. And find the most important person to them.
The sun was almost down and they had yet to find some kind of food or water. Gunshots were heard miles behind them. Y/n found an empty corner store in front of an hopefully abandoned apartment building, after getting food that’ll last until they find some type of game to get involved with.
The apartment building was soundless, dirty, and vacant.
Throughly checking for any sign of people it seemed like Y/n was actually the only thing around. They came to a stop on floor number three, and opens the first door on the hall. Placing the bag of food beside the door before pulling out their gun and searching for sight of someone else.
They weren’t expecting a noise coming from behind them in the bathroom. They paused before turning around pushing the door slightly open with their foot while the gun was still pointed, it was mostly clean. Until a rat jumped out scaring Y/n a bit. “Jesus I can’t wait to go home.” If there even was a home to go back to.
Y/n settled down in the bedroom making sure to lock the door and place something in front of it and the bedroom one as well. Being away from their friends was going to be a long time.
The sun glared through the windows onto their face waking them up, and it was time to look for a game.
Luckily when they went strolling for a while, Y/n found an abandoned prison like building, with a blimp and the jack of hearts card hanging down from it.
Walking in there was one collar like thing on a table. And a boy with blue hair walking up the stairs. The collar clicked together and on the back of it, the screen with flipping through hearts, spades, clubs, and diamonds. Landing on spades.
When Y/n got to the top of the stairs and saw many people. A girl with a blue dress, a man in a suit with a woman on his right side, a boy with his hair covering half his face, some guy looking anxious as hell with a guy with a white jacket on beside him. Wait? Isn’t that- “The game with now commence. This is called solitary confinement, difficulty: Jack of Hearts. Here are the rules. Guess the card suit that appears on the back of your collar. However you may not look at the symbol yourself. The time limit is one hour per round. In the final five minutes you will enter your cells and disclose your symbol. If you do not guess the correct symbol the game will be over. The collar will explode and you will die., the game is over once the Jack of Hearts is dead.” Y/n tuned the feminine voice out after that.
They were staring long and hard at the dude wearing his hood, til the two made eye contact. It was him. It was Chishiya. Their eyes lit up and went wide and he started to come forward a bit, but Y/n motioned him to stay put, just until the PA was done speaking. When everyone else started moving they did too.
“You seem trustworthy, I think we should form an alliance, what do you say?” Y/n said with a hint of cracking a joke. God did they miss his presence. And it hasn’t even a solid 3 days. But did they miss his touch, his lips, his everything.
Round one, no one died. Round two, a bald angry man died. Due to the influence of the boy with blue hair, which they heard his name was Banda. Who was a serial killer, four women he murdered. And his friend that sort of followed him like a loss puppy.
Every round was the same thing. “I’ll tell you yours if you tell me mine!”
Y/n, Chishiya, and the anxious guy in overalls, his name was Ippei. The three were sitting in the canteen, looking at everyone freaking for round 5 and seeing the number of people dwindle. They were dropping like flies.
This woman Kotoko and a man she was stuck with as if she were glued to his side caught Y/n’s attention. Not only were the two going at it like a bunch of bunnies but they seemed so mysterious like. Especially Yaba, but Kotoko was different. Throughout the game her and another guy, Matsushita would walk past each other when ever the could. Grabbing the same snack every time they were in the canteen. Of course Chishiya was the one to pick this up.
“Maybe they’re secretly in love.” Y/n slapped the back of his head. “It was a joke.”
Finally. It was five players left, Matsushita, Chishiya, Y/n, Banda, Yaba, and Kotoko. Y/n had a feeling of who the jack was.
Chishiya used the clever kind of his to formulate a plan against Kotoko, Yaba, and Matsushita. Chishiya got into her head to say the least, resulting in her death.
Honestly all this death had Y/n feeling like life was way too short, although everyone knew this. Y/n was seeing hundreds of lives being taken each minute in this hell hole.
Now this was and still is not the time for Y/n to get all soft and sappy just because Chishiya meant a lot to them. But Y/n had heavy admiration towards him, for his bravery, and stoic attitude towards this whole ordeal. Maybe the two would have a brighter and better future once this shit hole comes to an end.
Kotoko was dumb enough to believe anyone besides Yaba who she had stuck with the entire game. Poor girl shouldn’t have done that.
The last round. And one door opened. Matsushita walked out and started laughing like a complete lunatic. Banda was the real serial killer and psycho but even he was able to keep his composure and keep his emotions in. The laughter filled with silence the minute another door to a cell opened. And before he knew it he was backed to a corner with Yaba and Banda crouched over him with a shared knife.
The two later walked out of the prison and the blip above had came crashing down on fire. Y/n already knew many people were bound to die, but they and Chishiya would not be one of them.
But maybe in the next few hours that lay ahead of them.
Y/n turned to Chishiya and kissed his cheek. “I’ll never understand how you’re so fucking smart ‘Chiya.” he let out a chuckle. “I don’t even know how honestly. I just.. connect the dots, find patterns and go from there.”
They would stick by Chishiya’s side if need be, protecting him if needed. Unless he ends up being the protector, it’s still fine.

sypnosis : y/n and chishiya became allies after y/n had saved chishiya from getting killed in a game of tag . they helped each other stay alive in the borderlands while also collecting all the needed cards to return back to the real world . after following chishiya around religiously , y/n had fallen hard for chishiya and he had explained to her that he did not care for her and would do anything to keep himself alive . all the remaining players had split out to collect the face cards . y/n and chishiya were focusing on completing the diamond cards . but chishiya did what he had to survive .

the game that we will be playing is the keynesian beauty contest . difficulty K♦️. henceforth, the rules shall be explained . within one minute all of you will pick a number from 0 to 100 . after everyone has entered their numbers , an average number will be taken from the addition of the numbers of all the 5 players . the player that has the closest number to the average number will be the winner and earn one point.
here we were , all five of us facing each other at this pentagon shaped table awaiting for our deaths . the rules were simple , win or die .
if you get an answer wrong you’ll receive -1 point. it’s game over for those who reach -10 points.
kuzuryuu keiichi , the third highest executive at the Beach was directly facing me , chishiya was to my left and an additional two players as well .
benzo, an wise old man and hinako a snobby looking woman .
upon heading the rules it was obvious that only one of us would make it out alive . i wished that i had known that before entering the courthouse .
i turned to face chishiya only to see him sneering at keiichi.
only one player will make it out alive .
-
chishiya
why was he so special to me , so intriguing .
i was the one who saved him but for some reason i’m also the one following him around .
i was a smart person , i figured it out quick .
it was obvious to me that i was in love with him , and he noticed it as well .
one day , we were both hanging around the poolside of the Beach far away from each other when we exchanged glances .
not long after he made his way towards me and pulled me aside .
he stared me blankly into my eyes , no emotion portrayed through them . listen , i’ve seen the way you’ve been looking at me and it’s genuinely really annoying but you have to know .
i do not like you , i don’t want to like you and i never will . if we were in a bad situation i would not hesitate to sacrifice you to safe myself . i would use you at my disposal if i had to so stop giving me those looks , you should know that i hate them and i do not care about you .
after that day , we rarely exchanged words . but for some reason i still kept following him around . he was cold to everyone else , i wasn’t anyone special . but god forbid him , he was just so unique to me . he couldn’t keep me away from him and his god complex even if he wanted to .
-
before i could speak up i was quickly outspoken by keiichi .
“ you’ve all heard the rules . if you have no further questions we will continue and start the game. ”
chishiya snickered. he knew that it was going to be him . he knew that he was clever and he showcased that every chance he could .
he knew he would be the one to walk away from the court with the card in his hand . the K of diamonds would just merely be another addition to his substantial stack of cards that he had collected or as some might say , stole .
the first few rounds had passed and everyone had gotten the hang of the game . it was simple to everyone in the room . all you had to do was get the calculations right in the time limit of 5 minutes .
hinako spoke up , “ so this game , is merely a deduction of how far the opponents can calculate? ”
i let out a quiet laugh , everyone had already registered that after the first round and here she was only figuring it out now .
you made a bet with yourself , she’d be the first one out , if not the second .
“ but what we’re reading isn’t mentality but rationality . ” chishiya replied .
after a few rounds the tables weren’t turning , keiichi had been winning every round because of his solid strategy of everyone keying in either 0 or 1 . someone had to do something or else we’d all lose to him .
so i realised i had to change it up a bit .
i quickly inputted the number 100
it took everyone by surprise , i knew i had no chance of winning because 100 was definitely too far from the average but i inspired the rest to take part in what i was doing while also taking away keiichi’s advantage.
a few more rounds passed and both Benzo and Hinako had reached -9 points . I was on -7 and Chishiya was on -8 . Keiichi was leading with -4 points .
Both Benzo and Hinako were one point away from death , so they had to be extra careful in the next round .
Unfortunately for them , they guessed a number that was too off from the answer , causing the acid on top of them to pour down , melting and disintegrating their bodies until they were gone .
Chishiya smirked at it . Their lives had meant nothing to them and so did yours . He knew what he had to do after this . How he could ensure his survival by taking you out .
-
and here you were , in the pitch black bar of the Beach . gulping down bottles of alcohol , trying your best to forget about what had happened . you weren’t weak , you kept telling yourself that even if you didn’t believe it . but deep down you knew you were .
once you were done with your bottle you slammed it against the counter , breaking it into hundreds of shards .
you took the biggest one you could find and lifted up your sleeve .
this wouldn’t be your first mark, your arm was filled with lines that were distinct in width from past experiences that you had before coming to the Borderlands .
before you could hesitate you did it . the glass shard sliced it’s way through your skin with ease .
you dropped the shard out of pain causing it to break off into many smaller pieces .
once again you scavenged for more alcohol , looking for fire whiskey which was something that could help numb the pain .
after minutes of searching you finally found a bottle-
“ y/n what happened , why is the whole bar in a mess? ”
you turned around to face kuina , a look of worry was displayed all over her face .
she made eye contact for a moment before looking down towards your arm .
“ what were you thinking? ” you heard her mutter .
she quickly took the bottle of whiskey out of your hand and placed it on the counter , after that she slowly brought you to the other side of the bar due to there being shards of glass everywhere on the floor.
once she sat you down she went to look for a medkit, leaving you to yourself and your thoughts . kuina took as little time as she could because she knew you weren’t in the right state of mine to be alone .
once she found the kit she rushed back to the bar , only to find that you’ve fainted from the all the loss of blood . it was a thin cut line but a very deep one , it looked like you might have even accidentally cut off a vein .
after you had woke up the next day you and kuina had a long talk and after that you felt much better .
until you ran into chishiya again on the same day.
-
since there are only 3 players remaining , a new rule will be added into the game. if two players pick the same number they will both get -2 points .
i was already on -8 , meaning any wrong choice would lead me to my death .
picking 0 or 1 would definitely lead me to my death , so I’ll choose a random number between 2 and 100
how about , 62 .
the results are in , chishiya is the winner , number 23.
-
y/n ( -10points )
chishiya (-8 points )
keiichi ( -7 points )
-
and that was it ,
endgame for me .
before accepting my death i had one question , how did he figure out i was going to pick 23 .
and as if he read my thoughts , chishiya spoke up .
“in order to distance yourself you would’ve picked a number in between 2 to 100 because 0 or 1 had the highest chances of being duplicates .
after clearing all the possibilities of you picking a random number i was left with 62 and 74.
and i chose between those , and to my luck you picked 62 and all i had to do from there was divide 62 in half . leaving me with 23.
with this , a player has reached -10 points , it is now game over for that participant .
chishiya laughed , “ like i said you’re at my disposal , should have listened the first time . ”
and those were the last words i heard before meeting my end .
- END -

so apparently there’s a hybrid/shifter au where people can keep them as pets so imagine hybrid chishiya in the shelter and he has been deemed unadoptable because he’s a jerk and hisses at everyone that comes near him. insert reader who is way too excited for a shifter and sort of just fell in love with the angsty cat boy who very clearly dislikes them. for the first couple of weeks he kinda just hides away in his room, refusing to leave but reader doesn’t mind, sitting outside the door and talking to him for hours even if they don’t receive a response. eventually when he warms up to them he’s usually found in the living room curled up on the couch, letting reader scratch his ears and he’s vv protective of them and hates letting other people be around them :)
ok i’ll go to sleep now JFJDJAB

“ RED STRINGS TIE ME DOWN ”
Tumblr media
tw/cw - angst.
a/n - this is a future work, currently unavailable. part one.
Tumblr media
when you weren't in your room you liked to wander the halls, enjoying the quietness since a majority of the beach members were normally outside or down at the bar. you weren't really one to party, preferring to only be with those you wanted to. that was how you and chishiya, his name still buzzing around your mind, were alike. you could tell the male hated interacting with others, he was always hidden away in his room after all, but you hoped that one day you could be the exception as he was to you.
tonight was one of those nights that you wandered around, mainly because you couldn't sleep and you hoped the exercise would put your mind at ease. but then you found yourself in the wing his door resided, and to your surprise and enjoyment he was just about to enter.
"chishiya!" you called out, smiling as you ran a little quicker towards him. his eyes widened as he saw you, and he swiftly moved out of the way when you opened your arms for a hug.
you stumbled when you grasped open air, giving him a pout as you turned around and saw him snickering. you quickly got rid of the sadness at seeing you had made him laugh however, even if the sound was small and quickly gone.
"you're still awake. are you going to sleep soon?" you asked, standing upright.
"i wouldn't be here if i wasn't." he replied.
you quickly looked at the door, an idea forming in your mind, "can i come in?"
he looked at you like you had just insulted his very being, "absolutely not."
"i don't like sleeping by myself." you whined, giving him a pleading look in hopes he would agree.
he shrugged, "too bad." with that he closed the door, you still in the other side.
"i'll sit out here all night then!" you shouted.
"fine by me." you heard his muffled reply, and you let out a small puff of air before turning around.
you sat down in front of his door, leaning against it as you listened to the soft sounds.  you could hear the shuffle of him moving until it stopped as well as the soft clicking of his lights turning off.
you quickly realized he was planning on really leaving you here, but you were too stubborn to back out now. if it meant staying here until he let you in, then you'd do just that.
as you leaned against the door you eased your breathing. you held up your pinkie, the familiar red string wrapped so lightly around the finger and disappearing under the door frame. you smiled at the fact that he was just behind that door, and although stubborn just like you, you really loved this man.
way too soon you felt your self nodding off to sleep, the soft dreams invading your mind as you dozed off. you weren't sure how long you were there for, but when you finally woke up you were still on the ground, still in front of chishiya's room but with a blanket over your body and a pillow under your head. and even though a little confused, you had a feeling on who had been the one to place them there.
the beach had many luxuries. for one there was electricity, something that wasn't available unless for game venues. there was also hot water for showers, supplies for entertainment and medical use, as well as food. good food in fact.
it was the morning and you were starving, and even though the food was mostly canned since a lot of the things have expired in this decaying city, there was always that one thing that they made fresh from a garden that someone has been tending to, and today it just so happen to be blueberries.
excitedly you jumped in line, grabbed what else was apart of that days breakfast before getting a container of blue berries, the dark blue sweet making your mouth water.
"morning."
you jumped at the sound of the familiar voice, looking over to see chishiya, red string swirling around him as he also began gathering his food. you were so shocked that he had been the one to speak first that you didn't say anything, continuing to look at him with widened eyes.
he gave you a quick glance, eyes drifting down to your lips. he turned away and resumed grabbing his food, "close your mouth."
finally you got over your shock, excitement coursing through your body as you gave him a big smile, "good morning! how did you sleep?"
he shrugged, "fine i guess."
"glad to hear. hey, where are you eating today?" you asked, jumping in excitement for what you wanted to say next.
he gave you a curious look, "in my room."
"can i join you?" you asked, big smile on your face as you waited for his answer.
he sighed, already fed up with how energetic you were, "fine."
you blinked in surprise, your smile widening at the fact that he had actually agreed, "really?"
"if i say no you'll just sit outside my room again." he explained himself.
you just laughed, "you aren't wrong there."
together you walked side by side towards his room, and you smiled at seeing your connecting fates so close and swirling around the both of you. it was truly a beautiful sight, and you enjoyed every minute of it.
eventually you arrived, and he pushed open the door, leaving it so and your smile grew when you walked in. you glanced around and it surprised you how clean it was except for the many gadgets on his dresser.
you walked over and examined what looked to be a taser and a makeshift knife, "do you like building things?" you asked, glancing back to see him taking a seat.
"it's all for self defense."
you hummed in response, "they're really good. were you a engineer or something before all this?"
he sighed, "what i was doesn't matter. just sit down and eat."
you nodded, taking a seat across from him at the small table next to the window. you began with eating the blue berries, the sweet and bitter taste filling your mouth.
"what's your favorite fruit chishiya?" you asked, popping in another berry in your mouth.
he shrugged, "i don't have a preference."
"come on, there has to be one that you like over the others. what do you find yourself eating more?" you asked.
"strawberries." you couldn't help but laugh, and the blonde sent you a glare, "what?"
you waved him off, "nothing it just, oddly suits you."
he continued to stare at your before going back to his food, picking it up, "and you?"
you were surprised that he was actually asking about you. so far it had only been you trying to learn more about him, but you were excited to answer nonetheless, "me? hmm, i like all fruits."
"that's not an answer."
you laughed, "fine fine, maybe apples. but more so like candy apples. oh! and apple pie."
"your sweet tooth is alarming."
"it reflects my sparkling personality." you grinned, and he just rolled his eyes in response.
"sure, we'll go with that."
it was nice, being the first time that you both had a normal conversation with little to no insults from chishiya. it made your heart warm, and the butterflies flutter in your stomach. it made you happy that things were slowly getting better, and that you and your soulmate were getting along.
you tried your best not to involve yourself with other people at the beach. not because you were antisocial, but because you knew the things that would happen if you befriended someone and they were to die in the same game as you. you didn't want to have to experience that sort of heart break.
but unfortunately fate was not on your side, or maybe it was, and the game you needed to play in order to renew your visa less you wanted to die by a laser had chishiya, eyes widened at seeing you there.
you tried to mask the emotions of fear and instead wore a big smile, greeting him like usual. he just nodded, glancing away and telling you to pay attention to the rules being explained.
it was a spades game in a big arena, with a large hole in the center. you watched as others went near to see what was in there and just as you were about to join them you felt a hand grab your arm, and you looked back to see chishiya had been the one to stop you.
"let's say behind." he said.
you gave him a curious glance, "why? what if it's something important?"
his eyes shifted to look at the group of people gathered there, “i have a feeling it's not."
his words confused you, but if it was to the point where chishiya was preventing you from going he had to have had a good reason. and the thought that he cared enough to warn you also made you stick close to him, not missing the way he didn't push you away.
chishiya had been right. pretty soon there was a loud explosion, and you covered your arms over your head as you crouched down low at the sound of rumbling. when it had finally ceased you look up to see chishiya over you, his jacket covering your body as if to shield you from any of the rubble.
his eyes glanced down at you before quickly looking away, pushing himself up as he looked around.
you got up yourself, a tiny gasp escaping your lips at seeing the destruction all around. it must have been caused by the large crater in the center, and by the looks of it no one else had survived.
internally you were grateful that chishiya had stopped you from going otherwise you would've been among the dead right now. you turned around to tell him your gratitude but he was already leaving, and you quickly catched up to him.
"we have to exit the building. that's how we'll clear the game." he said, stopping in front of the exit doors but they were covered in rubble far too big for either of you to move.
"i think there's another exit on the other side of the building. we can try there." you suggested, and he gave you a small nod.
"we'll take the vents."
your eyes widened, "what? but-"
"no arguments. let's go or you're more than welcomed to stay here and move rocks until you die." his words were harsh, but you really didn't want that, and you'd rather not lose sight of chishiya.
"vents it is." you agreed.
together you found the entrance, and when chishiya had removed the cover he waited for you to get in. taking a deep breath you crawled through, seeing him also enter as you both began making your way in.
sweat began sticking to your skin with how hot it was, breaths coming in short as you struggled to breathe through the claustrophobia of being in such a tight space. not to mention that the vents were unsteady, and each step forward made your anxiety grow at the creak of it moving.
you stopped when there was two ways to go, one up and the other to the left. you sat down and looked at chishiya, waiting for his input on what path to take.
his eyes glanced towards both ways, silent as if thinking over what to do, "go up." he finally spoke.
"up? but that's away from the exit."
"then you can take the left and see what happens." he retorted.
you grumbled, looking away, "fine fine. no need to get angry."
you shifted to begin the ascend but the creaking of the vent was way to loud. you looked back at chishiya, fear in your eyes as you reached out, a loud bang as the vent gave out from under you. you screamed as you felt yourself fall and all around you could feel the intensity of the heat, hair sticking to your skin. you closed your eyes and waited to hit the ground but when it didn't happen you peek one eye open, heart dropping at seeing the steaming water below you.
you looked up and there was chishiya, both hands gripping onto your arm as he struggled to keep his grip on you and stay in his spot.
"chishiya-"
"give me your hand!" he shouted, and it was now that you realized how desperate he was. he grit his teeth as he released one hand from your arm and extended it out towards you.
quickly you willed your arm to reach up, fingers ghosting over his. once more you extended, praying that you'd reach him. your strings intertwined with each other, and finally he grabbed your arm, pulling you up.
the force of his pull made you fall into the vent, hands still intertwined with his as your face hit his chest. you were breathing so hard, half from the fear of what just almost happened to you and half because you were so so close to chishiya.
he let out an exasperated sigh, chest rising and falling as he also tried to catch his breath. you could feel his hand gripping yours tightly, almost like he was afraid that you were going to fall again.
"thank you..." you whispered against his chest, and he just gave you a small and numb  nod in response.
it still baffled you even as you both successfully left the building that chishiya had saved you. he was risking his life too after all, and you were sure that before he would've just let you fall to your demise. but, over the course of your time together something had changed, and his actions tonight had proved just that.
you both stumbled towards the car, you clutching onto your arm since it was sore. chishiya gave you a glance before sighing, stopping in front of you. you looked at him curiously until you felt his hands reach out and grab your arm, turning it over and brown eyes examining the limb.
"it'll just be sore for a little bit. you'll be fine." he said. you gave him a soft smile, him noticing the quirk of your mouth and giving you a curious glance, "what?
"you're being unusually nice today chishiya." you said, voice soft as you looked at him fondly.
he sighed again, letting your arm drop back to your side, "i was a medical student back before i came here. i'm just doing what every good doctor would do."
your smiled widened, because not only was he taking the time to make sure you were okay, but he was also giving you more information about himself, and you loved taking every piece you could about him when given.
ever since that night you had been in a good mood, loving the way things were going in your relationship with chishiya. maybe not official, but you were getting there, meaning your stubbornness was finally paying off.
you hadn't seen him since then, but you played it off as just him being tired from that game and he always appeared and disappeared whenever he wanted to. today in particular however your string was going up, meaning the blonde was on the rooftop. eagerly you followed it, up the stairs and through the doors.
your smile fell however, not because chishiya wasn't there. no, he was standing right beside the edge like always. the only thing was, his hands held something, close to his string wrapped around his pinkie.
"chishiya." you called out, and you saw him tense before turning around. the expression on his face, it was strange, but you couldn't place what it meant. and the bad feeling in your gut wasn't helping ease your anxieties.
"it's you." he said, face cold and expressionless.
your eyes noticed the pair of scissors in his hand, fear striking your heart at the possibilities, "what are you..."
the silver metal glistened, the sharp edges of the blade so close to the cherry red string wrapped around his finger. you felt frozen, limbs numb as you realized what he was trying to do.
"stop..stop it! chishiya!" you screamed, hands reaching out. it was pointless however, what could you have done when he was so far away?
despair, agony, all these emotions weighed heavy on your chest at seeing the string snap, the end of his falling to the ground. slowly it began to burn, following the line all the way to your own pinkie. tears washed your face as the once vibrant color dulled, until what had once layed delicately around your finger also fell to the ground.
you just stared in shock. maybe this was just a dream. or a nightmare or anything other than reality. no way could it have been real. no way chishiya just cut off your red string of fate.
you dropped to your knees, hands curling around the dead string as sobs racked your body. you looked up through blurry tears at the blonde male, trying to see what he felt but his face held no ounce of regret, and even though you wanted to be angry, you just wanted an explanation.
"what did you just do." you croaked out, eyes searching his for an answer. maybe he had good reason. you didn’t want to believe that all your efforts had gone to waste. you thought he was finally going to accept the love you so desperately wanted to share, but it seems like that wasn’t the case at all. and the man that you loved so much, the one you had dreamed for years of meeting and living a life together, didn’t love you one bit.
"i told you. i didn't want a soulmate." he held up the scissors in his hand, the very weapon that had just shattered your heart, "so i broke what tied me down."

chishiya shuntaro blinked in surprise at seeing an unfamiliar face appear right in front of his, upside down with their legs hanging from the tree's branch. their hair stuck out as they blinked at him, a soft smile stretching their lips.
"have you seen a cat anywhere?" they asked, tilting their head towards the side.
it was not what he was expecting, but then again he rarely encountered students hanging from trees, looking for cats no less. he looked back down at his book, putting his answer simply, "no."
"are you sure? she sticks out like a sore thumb, and i swore i saw her around here." they pressed on, glancing around as their hair swished along with the movement.
"i haven't seen your stupid cat." he replied, getting irritated at the fact that they wouldn't stop bothering him.
they giggled, like his insult was funny, "she is a little slow, maybe that's why i couldn't find her in the common room earlier. she's always getting lost."
chishiya just huffed in response, turning the page in his book. maybe if he pretended they weren't there they'd leave him alone.
quickly they reached up and flipped over so their legs dangled over the grass. they then released their grip and dropped to the ground, brushing the green leaves that had accumulated from their clothes. it was now that chishiya noticed the yellow tie peeking out from under their vest, as well as the small crest of their house. of course this stranger was a hufflepuff, nothing else could explain the strange happiness of those sorted into the blindingly bright colored theme. the same happiness that was slowly getting on his nerves.
and unfortunately they didn't leave. instead they crouched down, eyes scanning the book in his hand, "oh! what are you reading?" they leaned in closer and instinctively chishiya leaned back, not liking the sudden close proximity.
"none of your business." he muttered.
they pucker their lips out in a pout, but very quickly their attention was lost on him and instead on the bed of flowers right next to the tree. their eyes brighten as they hop over his legs, crouching down once more and peering intently at the pink petals.
chishiya internally rolled his eyes at their strange infatuation with the plant. another thing about hufflepuffs was that they had this weird obsession with plants. maybe because the head of their house was the herbology teacher and he was sure their common room was covered with the stuff. but what was the point? it was going to die anyways, squished or picked by a student. why care for something that was going to perish in a couple days time? quickly he went back to reading his book, deciding to ignore this stranger's presence.
they had other plans however as he could feel their fingers brush against his ears, quickly retreating their hands back just as quick as they had been there. he glared at them, his own fingers unconsciously reaching up to touch where they had been.
he blinked in surprise at feeling the soft petals of a flower, stem tucked behind his ear and keeping his hair back from his face.
"it's a chrysanthemum. they represent happiness. really pretty right?" they gave a soft smile, waiting for him to agree he was sure.
he turned away. he didn't want to give them what they thought they'd get out of him, "i don't care about flowers or their meanings." but still, despite his words he found himself keeping the plant there. only because his hair wasn't in his face anymore.
they laughed once more, not at all phased by his harsh tone, "take good care of it okay?" they pushed themselves up, giving chishiya a short wave, "i'll see you around!"
with that they turned and began running through the grass, soft giggles and an easy going expression permanent on their face. chishiya didn't understand how someone could be so happy, so lively like that. was it just a hufflepuff thing? well, he didn't care, as long as they stayed far away from him from now on and stopped climbing the trees he would sit under.
chishiya rarely ever ran late for anything. he made sure he was punctual, despite not caring about the classes that he attended. it was more like something to keep his mind busy, because god forbid he was left with nothing to do.
but of course his teacher had asked him to bring something to another staff member, and of course he had never even heard of the professor's name. so of course he didn't know where the classroom was, resulting in him being lost.
what could you expect? it was a large castle, with stairs always moving and the paintings and ghosts he encountered were no help, despite him asking as nicely as humanly possible.
after yet another ghost had ignore him he let out another air of frustration, walking down the hall that looked just as similar as the one he passed through just a couple minutes before. he was close to giving up when he collided with something, stumbling back and blinking at the figure he had run into.
they also blinked in surprise until their eyes widened in recognition, smile stretching their lips as they pointed at him, "oh! it's you from before!"
he reached out and pushed their hand down, "it's rude to point at people."
this time their smile was apologetic, instead using their hand to rub the back of their neck bashfully, "ah, sorry." their eyes glanced over his body, clearly looking for something, "did you keep the flower?"
he thought back to the pink petal that had clipped his hair back a couple weeks ago, "no."
"aw really? well, it probably died huh? maybe next time i should cast a spell to make it last longer." they thought out loud.
"i don't want your flowers." he replied bluntly, turning away and walking down the hall.
they followed after him however, hands clasped behind their back, "but it did something! look! you seem happier now." they reached over and pinched both his cheeks, tugging it upwards into a smile.
he swatted their hands away, "don't touch me."
they laughed softly, once more clasping their hands back together, "ah, alright then," they were silent for a moment before their face brightened, and for a moment chishiya was scared of the stupid thing that they were about to speak, "say, let's be friends!"
very stupid indeed. he didn't understand why hufflepuffs were so friendly. didn't they realize that some people'd rather be left alone? "no."
"come on! i really want a slytherin friend. you know what they say, our houses go really good together." they pressed on, causing chishiya to roll his eyes in annoyance.
"no one says that." he replied. it was true. slytherins were known for their bad reputation after all, and so many of the other students tended to stay away. and there was no point in someone so lively to become friends with someone like him.
"then let's prove it to them! that hufflepuffs and slytherins can be good friends!" they stopped in front of him, preventing him from continuing on in his path.
as he stared at their stupid smile chishiya remembered why he had always stayed away from the honey badger house. they could be so annoying, and way too much to handle. and so he brushed past them without another word, not noticing that somehow he had made it to where he needed to be. he didn't even realize where he was going, he was just trying to get away from them after all. but he pushed the thought away and entered the classroom, leaving them behind the door.
one of the only things chishiya liked about hogwarts was the food there.
it always appeared during the same time everyday, a feast that he could appreciate. it was something he looked forward to in the mornings especially, where he could get there extra early and avoid running into anyone that he didn't feel like talking to, enough to eat his food in peace and go to class.
but for some reason his alarm had gone off late that day, and so he didn't get to enjoy the quiet morning with his tea and bread, nor did he get to eat at all actually. he had run late enough that as punishment his teacher didn't allow him to go to lunch without cleaning the cupboard with the books for class and washing the potion bottles until there wasn't a speck of dust on them.
he wouldn't have minded it he wasn't so hungry, stomach rumbling every second to prove his point. really he could just leave, his teacher wasn't even around anymore, but he knew the consequences of leaving things half done. and his teacher wasn't one to bend the rules no matter how good his grades were.
hands dried the glass bottle as he sat in silence, the only sound being the ticking clock and the birds from the open window. a new sound entered his ears however, and he turned to see a mess of hair and that familiar yellow tie, head peeking into the room before settling on him. they smiled, before opening the door fully and clicking it closed, skipping over to where he sat.
"what are you doing here. you're missing lunch." he mumbled, going back to his work.
they ignored him however, instead placing down a small box right in front of him. he glanced up at them curiously, and they waited for him to open it. when he realized they weren't going to leave he sighed before putting down the glass bottle and removing the lid, surprised to see the abundance of food tucked neatly into the container.
"i noticed you weren't at breakfast today so i figured you'd be hungry." they explained, smile growing wider.
he pushed the box away, "i didn't ask you to do this."
"i know. i just wanted to is all." they pushed it back before walking around the table to stand by him, their sweet flowery scent filling his senses as they began drying the rest of the bottles, humming a soft tune.
"stop that." he muttered, trying to grab back the potion bottles and the rag. he hated having other people help him, especially when he didn't ask for it.
instead they turned so he couldn't grab the materials from where he was seated, "come on, just eat your food. i won't tell professor that i helped alright? i'll be gone as quickly as i was here."
he wanted to argue further but before he could speak they had shoved a piece of bread into his mouth, successfully shutting him up. he glared at them but they just smiled, resuming the cleaning. chishiya grumbled but despite his earlier thoughts of hating receiving help his stomach began to grumble once more. he really was hungry, and the food his smelled so good. he figured, just this once, he'd let them. and so he began eating, finally easing the hunger that had bothered him all day. he also watched silently as they put away the books and organized the potion bottles, all while humming that soft tune that tickled his ears quite nicely. he hadn't heard it before, but their voice was soft and quiet enough that it didn't bother him too much, and so he let them finish as he ate his food.
hogwarts had many places that was good for hiding.
it was perfect for chishiya really, he enjoyed being alone and although no one really bothered him in the common room there were times when the 1st and 2nd years would get rowdy, and as his last year at hogwarts he wanted things to just go by quietly. no interruptions and most importantly peace and quiet.
so he found himself wandering the halls more often than not, mainly during the night and avoiding any teachers on night patrol. luckily he was good at avoiding them, and tonight was one of those nights as he walked down the long corridors, the only sound being his feet taking each step and the flickering fire of the torches. despite modern technology they kept a lot of the old decorations, and he wasn't necessarily complaining since it made it easier to avoid being caught in the dark past bedtime hours.
he turned the corner, brown eyes watching the courtyard that usually buzzed with activity during the daytime. it was quiet this time, just the soft blowing of the trees from the wind and the small creaking of crickets. he would've turned his direction there if it wasn't for the sight of a shadow just across, holding up their wand with the light spell.
quickly and quietly he opened one of the doors, closing it and waiting with a beating heart for the footsteps to disappear. when they did, he let out a small breath in relief, turning around to see which room he had found himself in.
he blinked in surprise at seeing the hufflepuff here, hair thick with dirt and face covered in the same substance. they pushed their headphones down to rest on their shoulders, lowering the water can held in their grasp.
and of course, they greeted him with a soft smile, giving a small wave as well.
chishiya didn't feel like asking what they were doing here. the answer was pretty obvious, and he didn't want to stay longer than necessary. he gave them a short nod in acknowledgement, about to turn when he heard the footsteps again. quietly he stepped back towards them, watching the door and hoping that they'd leave.
"i'm surprised you're still awake." they whispered softly, a small giggle escaping their lips.
"can't sleep." he bluntly replied, turning back around to look at them.
they reached up and brushed their hands against their cheek, probably to wipe the sweat that had gathered there but really it only put more dirt on their face. laughable really.
"the flowers are going to bloom soon," they spoke, holding up their watering can and tipping it over so the crystal clear liquid washed over the soil, darkening all that was touched, "not many of the students are good at keeping them healthy, and our professor has a lot of other ones to take care of. so i come here during the night to help out from time to time."
chishiya didn't remember asking about why they were here, but he didn't bother telling them that. instead he directed his attention to look around the small greenhouse, the fresh scent of soil and rainwater and the flowery scent that they always wore. that explained why whenever they crossed paths he would smell it.
he looked back down at feeling them tug at his sleeve, bringing him to crouch down right beside them. he gave them a weird look before glancing at one of the pots, realizing that slowly the stem was peeking out of the soil. it continued to grow until it bloomed, petals of a deep red forming. even more surprisingly the flower began to sway, almost like a small dance.
they laughed in excitement at the small performance, giving him another look to gauze his reaction.
"i don't think they're supposed to grow that fast." he said. he wasn't really experienced in herbology, he much preferred defense against the dark arts class material, but even through his lack of knowledge he had never seen a flower grow so quickly.
"well they're magic of course," they laughed softly, before leaning forward and inspecting the other pots that remained blank, "looks like none of the others will bloom tonight. so consider this your lucky day."
once more they smiled, face lit up and basking in the soft moonlight that peeked through the leaves above and the window panes. he was starting to grow used to their constant energy, although the dark of night didn't do those soft smiles any justice.
quickly he turned away, bothered at the thought that had entered his mind, "right." without another word he went back towards the door, not even checking if the professor was still nearby before leaving them alone in the greenhouse, with only the plants and stars as company.
eventually the soft colors of autumn turned to winter, where many things died under the harsh conditions and the cold came to replace the heat. with harsh winds and snowfall several feet deep, everything slow and boring and everything chishiya hated.
and with those skies came the school trip, to a town not far over. chishiya usually opted out of the annual field trip, not caring for it and plus there was too many possibilities of running into people he knew. but alas, despite arguments his father had still signed that slip, forcing him to join his classmates in the cold and in an unknown area.
he trudged through the snow covered paths, hating the amount of students laughing and bumping into him as he walked. the candy store was too crowded, so he didn't go there despite wanting a strawberry based treat and the store with toys was not really to his liking, despite the pranks that he could use. if anything he'd rather use hexes and curses to punish those 'for fun' as they called it. it was much more exciting that way.
so he continued onward, until he spotted a familiar head peeking through the crowd, bundled up nicely in a yellow scarf and dressed in their black robes. without thinking he walked closer to them, confirming that it really was who he had expected it to be.
they turned around and smiled upon seeing him, bright and warm enough to melt the snow that fell around them. he wished it would, he didn't like the cold, especially with how hard it was snowing right now. they must have noticed his discomfort because they grabbed his hand and tugged him through the crowd, with very little complaints coming from his mouth much to his surprise before they entered a small restaurant. it was crowded with students from school, exactly what he was trying to avoid but before he could actually complain this time they were already dragging him to a booth, successfully obscuring any weird stares that they were receiving.
they sat across from him, resting their cheek in the palm of their hand, "i didn't think you liked these sort of events."
"i don't." he was quick to reply, still upset at having been dragged here by the teachers.
they just laughed at his bluntness, reaching forward and tapping the menu in front of him, "the butterbeer is really good. have you ever had any?"
brown eyes glance down at the picture, not recognizing it, "i've never been here before."
their eyes widened, excitement buzzing in their bones, "oh! you should definitely try it. here, i'll order for us."
so after much small talk with mostly them doing the talking their drinks arrived, two glasses set in front of the two. excitedly they reached forward and took a sip, just as quickly leaning back and fanning their tongue as the beverage was too hot.
chishiya could feel a small laugh rumble in his throat before taking a sip himself, quite liking the sweet taste. believe it or not the male had a sweet tooth, and the drink warmed his body like the tea he enjoyed sipping. it definitely helped rival the cold temperatures from outside.
he watched as they took another sip, this time blowing on it softly before doing so. and once again chishiya could feel the laugh threatening to burst from his mouth at seeing the sweet foam cover their upper lips, them clearly oblivious to what had happened.
they cocked their head to the side, eyes looking at him curiously, "what?"
quickly he cleared his throat, masking the amusement on his face, "nothing."
they narrowed their eyes at him before reaching a gloved hand up towards their lips. he could tell they had grown embarrassed as they looked away, shifting their body away from him as they took another sip.
eventually they got up and left, walking around the small town. chishiya wasn't sure why he continued to follow them around, he liked being alone after all. but for some reason they seemed to be the only person he could withstand despite the lingering irritation he felt being around them. well, with a personality like that he was sure he'd always be annoyed, but he had grown to tolerate it over the course of their 7th year together.
he paused when they stopped in the middle of the bridge, hands gripping the side as they looked up towards the sky. he walked back so he stood right beside them, watching as the soft flakes of snow hit their nose and settled on their lashes. that smile, the one they always wore was of course present on their face, gloved hand extended out towards the fallen flakes and trying to catch them in their hands. they then extended out their tongue, clapping excitedly when one had landed on the appendage and they turned towards him, smile even brighter than before. and once again chishiya felt like the expression, it could melt down even the coldest of places, ones that had never even known what warmth had felt like before.
that night he sat near his window, the students sharing the dorm with him fast asleep as he was leaning against the cool glass. in his hands lay a small flower, beyond wilted from the many months that it had been taken from its place in the ground. but despite that, he kept it. delicate and still pretty in his eyes. perhaps because it reminded him of the day he met that strange hufflepuff, the one who never stopped smiling and was way too soft for someone like him. who pushed people away and preferred to be alone. but despite that they continued to stick around, and was even the same person who had warmed the coldness of his heart.
even more surprisingly he felt himself smile, closing his palms over the flower and leaning his head back against the wall. he let himself think about them, enjoying how they contradicted the harsh cold of winter with their soft smiles and their warm gaze, that melted his entire being as if it was still summer, with green grass and chrysanthemum flowers.

Hmmm, then can you make a part 2 of the Chishiya Harry Potter au where they confess to each other, or something cute along those lines.
“ PURPLE LILACS ”

tw/cw - none.
a/n - this work is multiple parts. part one.
Tumblr media
chishiya rarely ever got into trouble.
believe it or not he knew when to keep his mouth shut, knowing when to just listen and obey his teachers no matter how wrong they were or how much he wanted to snap back. no good would come out of it, and he'd rather be on their good side then let them be suspicious of him at all. it'd give him less freedom, and chishiya loved doing his own thing.
this class period however, his teacher was irritating him more often than usual. first he had given him a grade he very clearly didn't deserve, and now he was calling him out for cheating on a test that they were currently taking.
honestly, he wasn't stupid. cheating where spells were very obviously used to counter it? only an idiot would do so.
"even if i wanted to cheat i'd at least be sneaky about it." chishiya sang, smirk on his face and causing his professor to lash out in anger.
"are you talking back to me? well i hope you like the dark forest, because you'll be spending the night there in detention." she yelled, bringing out her quill to write his name down.
"how fun." he replied sarcastically, causing the adult in front of him to fume in anger once more.
a chair scraped loudly against the wooden floorboards, "professor! chishiya wouldn't cheat! and do you even have any evidence to support it?" his eyes widened at hearing the familiar voice, turning around to see them, that hufflepuff, standing up from their seat with their hands pressed against the wood and a determined look on their face.
"sit down right this instant otherwise you'll be joining him in detention." she shouted at them, but they didn't back down, instead sending chishiya a small smile when their eyes met before returning their attention back to their teacher.
"i will not back down until my friend is off that list!" the yelled, confident in their answer.
chishiya sighed, irritated that they had willingly put themselves into detention with him. why had they done that? anyone in their right mind would stay far away from the dark forest, no one knew of the creatures lurking there after all. not to mention the things they'd have to do during that time to make up for their punishment.
and here they were, the dark shadows playing tricks on his mind as he stared into the expanse of the forest, unknown entities hidden within the trees. faintly he could hear the howl of a wolf and the rustle of the leaves as wind blew through his strands. quickly he brought his robe closer to his body, seeing them do the same.
"you're a dumbass." he muttered, taking the first step into the terrain as they followed right beside him.
"would you rather have been in here alone then?" they asked, peering at him innocently but he could recognize the small mischief in their eyes. they probably had been excited about coming here, loving nature and all.
he smirked at them, "i'm always alone."
they sighed, looking away and he could see the sad look that painted their features, "doesnt it get lonely though?"
he looked away as well, instead focusing on the path through the trees, "that's the point."
"yeah but, even if you're alone, it doesn't necessarily mean you want to be alone. does that make sense?" they asked, titling their head towards the side.
he hummed, shrugging in response, "all i hear is nonsense."
"i'm just saying-" they paused, and chishiya stopped talking as well. they had been so caught up in their small argument that they forgot where they were. but the loud rustle of something moving in the shadows had quickly reminded them of that fact.
with the lantern in his grasp he moved it around, narrowing his eyes to see past the light and straining his ears to listen. they did the same, before he looked down when he felt their hands clutch onto his sleeve. he smirked, about to tease them when he realized that the expression on their face wasn't scared. in fact, they looked excited, and even a little bit in awe.
"what is it?" he whispered, careful as to not alert whatever was hidden in the dark of the night.
they turned to look at him, features softly illuminated by the yellow light, "do you see it too?"
he stared at them for longer than necessary, feeling his heart skip a beat before swallowing thickly. he turned away and tried to regain his composure, "see what?"
"there, behind the tree." he glanced at where they were directing, squinting his eyes once more until he saw it. a large animal, sure enough peeking out from behind the bark wood. cautiously he stepped closer, the lantern showing off the large bat like wings tucked to their side and the lack of body hair, revealing bones and reptilian features . he recognized it as the creatures that pulled the carriages during the beginning of the year, although he was sure he had imagined them since no one else had been able to spot them, always saying that the carriages pulled themselves.
he tried to stop them as they released their grip on his clothes and reached forward, palm
held out towards the creatures face. caustiously, it reached it's snout forward and sniffed, before bumping their hand and rubbing against their skin.
they turned back to look at him, bright smile on their lips as they pet the strange animal's head, "come on, they're friendly."
chishiya stayed rooted to his spot however, eyes still scanning over its body and trying to make sense of the situation. was this really safe? he could never be too careful, yet here they were, carelessly putting themselves in danger and they didn't even know it.
their soft giggle brought him out of his thoughts as well as the warmth of their skin against his, taking his hand and bringing him closer to where they had stood previously. his heart raced unexpectedly in his chest as it was brought forward, blank gray eyes staring at him before a snort left it's snout and it bumped his hand as well.
he looked down embarrassed when they placed their hand over his, keeping it there as his fingers met cold scales and bones. it was a weird sensation, but the creature didn't make any move to harm either of them.
"thestrals can't be seen by everyone, so i'm surprised and a little sad that you noticed it too." they whispered softly, causing him to stare at them in confusion.
"i haven't read about them in class." he mumbled quietly to himself, trying to think back during their mythical creatures lesson but the name didn't ring a bell.
"professor hasn't gone over them, but they are viewed as creatures of misfortune and aggression because only people who have witnessed death can see them." they explained, fingers trembling softly over his own.
"so if you've seen someone die then they appear." he confirmed, staring back at the creature who flapped its wings.
"yup." they nodded, not looking at him.
brown eyes stared at them, wondering who exactly they had seen die in order for them to notice this creature. for unexplainable reasons he felt his heart hurt in his chest at the thought, before returning his attention back to their hands, soft and delicate and so so warm over his own. once more he grew embarrassed, shifting his palm and they hesitated before removing it, bringing the limb back to their side.
"they don't seem so agressive though." he noted, seeing as the thestral continued to stare at them curiously.
"i think they're just misunderstood. i think i would be angry too if people couldn't see me. it must be so lonely for them." their lips pulled down into a frown, not at all like them and the expression didn't sit right with him.
he looked back at the thestral, conflicted but understanding, "yeah, im sure it is."
hogwarts was in a state of chaos.
it was that time of year again where exams were soon, and all students were scrambling to cram in as much information as they could before then. chishiya wasn't particularly worried, he had no doubt about his capabilities and he knew he was smart enough to pass even without studying. however, that hufflepuff he had grown fond of was not so diligent in their studies, and they had come complaining to him about this very fact, even asking desperately for help to study. and despite wanting to say no, they had pouted, bright eyes giving him a pleading look and causing him to look away embarrassed but agreed nonetheless.
so here he was, sitting with them at a table in the library with a stack of books from each class and paper and quills. it was relatively quiet, with just the soft murmurs of other students nearby and the sliding of books being put back into their place.
he glanced over their paper, chuckling softly to himself, "you're doing it wrong."
"really?" their eyes widened in surprise, quickly leaning forward to scan their writing. their brows furrowed in confusion, not quite understanding what they had done wrong. chishiya sighed before placing down his book, leaning forward as well and pointing to the error in their problem.
a sheepish smile graced their lips as they thanked him before going to erase and fix their mistake, causing chishiya to lean back in his chair once more and read.
really he should be studying as well, but it was fun to watch their frustration. small breaths of air escaping their lips when they didn't understand something and the amount of times they've switched subjects hoping for it to be easier only to get proven wrong. chishiya could even say it was cute, but tried not to make this obvious by keeping himself occupied on the letters in his book.
soon enough he noticed that they had grown quiet, far to quiet to really be working. brown eyes glanced over at their figure, seeing that their head rested on the pages of their book. and upon closer inspection he could hear the soft snores emanating from their lips, eyes closed and their face twisted in content. the blonde sighed, not at all surprised that they had fallen asleep while working, there had been numerous times where they had fallen asleep in class after all when they were paired together, hogwarts all about letting the different houses intermingle with each other.
he glanced around to see no one nearby so he didn't have to worry about anyone disturbing their sleep. he directed his attention back to them, feeling himself smile at the sight. he sighed, leaning down and resting his cheek against the cold wood as he watched them, lips parted and they breathed softly. he noticed the stray wisps of hair obscuring their face and without thinking he reached over and brushed them away, heart stopping and fingers pausing against their skin. their face shifted, and for a second he was scared they would wake up and he'd have to explain this strange situation. they just sighed however, relaxing once more and quickly he brought his hands back to his side, watching for another second before sitting upright.
cheeks warmed as he cleared his throat, placing their robe over their shoulders as he leaned back in his seat and picked up his book, praying that the butterflies fluttering in his stomach would go away.
the blonde male normally kept to himself.
he knew people weren't kind, everyone had a darkness inside them that more often than not controlled their actions. as a slytherin he had seen it first hand, especially with his housemates since slytherin house did produce the most dark wizards, it was a fact that everyone knew. so whenever he saw a poor first year getting picked on he brushed it off, not deeming it worth his time.
this time was different however. because he knew those familiar locks of hair, and that tie he sees way too often, yellow socks and the robe they had decorated with flowers. he thought that they were just speaking to other students, as friendly as ever, but the thought was quickly contradicted once he saw their books get knocked out of their hands, papers flying across the floor until they settled all around them. his eyes widened in surprise at the scene, and he quickly realized that not only were they clearly getting picked on, it was by his own housemates no less.
their smile stayed bright as they crouched down to the floor, gathering their books and resting them in the crook of their arm as a soft sigh escaped their lips. how could they not be bothered by this? didnt they know how to defend themselves?
his steps were quick as he crouched down beside them, not saying a word as he helped gather up the stray pieces of paper. he could feel their eyes on him and when he looked up he was met with a soft smile, grateful for his help.
soft snickers caused him to look up, smirks displayed on their faces as they whispered to each other. he looked back down, noticing the way their hands trembled as they stuffed their last book into their bag, face seemingly conflicted as they reached back to gather the rest of their things.
chishiya stood up, matching the smile on the two slytherins faces. they looked at him, laughing even more, "what's with that smile?"
"hm? oh, just thinking about how pathetic you both look right now." he smiled, fake and he knew they realized it too.
"huh? want to say that again?" one shouted, face twisted in anger.
"i said you both look pathetic." he laughed when they glared, "wasn't that what you wanted to hear? i was just answering a question."
they moved forward but the other stopped them, whispering in their ear before they sighed, "fucking asshole. let's go."
he watched as they left, smile leaving his face once they were gone. he turned back to look at his friend to find them already standing, hands clutching the strap of their shoulder bag and a soft smile on their face.
"thank you." they beamed, leaning down and brushing the dust from their clothes.
"you should stick up for yourself more." he muttered, noticing the bruises on their knees and cuts on their skin.
they shook their head, smile never leaving their face, "i don't mind. they might be going through something right now."
he sighed, reaching forward and taking the books still resting in their arms as he began walking forward, "that kindness is probably going to kill you one day."
they laughed, as if it was a funny thought, "i think i'll be fine. besides, i have you by my side! so i'm not too worried."
he gave them a quick glance before looking away, feeling his heart warm at the thought that they needed him, "yeah, you do."
after the exams spring time came, with soft breezes and blooming flowers. it was finally nice enough to go outside, even without layers upon layers of clothing just to keep warm. and chishiya had decided to do just that, not liking how stuffy the common room had gotten as well as the amount of students in there, relaxing now that tests were over and the year would soon come to an end as well.
the same tree he always sat under came into view, leaves now decorating the branches and those flowers he had grown to love blooming from the ground. blades of grass was vibrant green and rustled with the breeze, and brown eyes drifted up and smirked knowingly at seeing someone in that tree.
theirs hands reached desperately for a small feline, and orange tabby that laid curled on an upper branch far from their reach. chishiya found himself snickering softly as they stumbled over ever so slightly, hands flying to steady themselves from falling. their fingers grasped at their shirt to calm their racing heart, eyes drifting to chishiya as he put his hand up in a small wave.
"chishiya!" they greeted, toothy smile as they waved back, "can you help me? my cat won't come down."
he hummed, "that sounds like a you problem."
"please! it'll be real quick!" they pleaded, putting their hands together as they sent him a small pout.
his eyes scanned over the tree and branches, debating heavily in his head if he really should attempt to climb. in the event that he were to fall it would definitely hurt, not to mention he had never tried to climb a tree before, so he had no idea where to start at all.
he looked away, "sounds dangerous."
"it's not! look, put your foot there to hoist yourself to grab that branch, it's steady enough to support your body weight." they began to instruct, and chishiya sighed before placing down his book and bag, walking over and bringing his hands out of his pockets to do as they said.
it took some effort, but eventually he was able to reach the branch they currently sat on, hands filled with blisters as he took his spot in front of them. quickly he reached up and held out his hands for the feline, who sniffed at his palm before disregarding his outstretched hands and instead jumped onto his chest, causing him to let out a small sound in surprise and stumble for balance.
warm hands grasped at his forearms and he did the same, breathing heavily as the cat jumped from his shoulder and onto a different branch before landing on the ground and walking away.
he glared at the retreating tabby, before turning back to hear laughter chime in his ears. their chest shook as more giggles fell from their throat, and chishiya realized that he was still gripping tightly onto their arms as they were doing to him. but somehow, he didn't want to let go, liking how despite the blisters and roughness of their finger pads they felt nice against his skin, bare and reassuring that he wouldn't fall.
"it's pretty up here right?" they asked, causing chishiya to glance around. sure enough he could see the wide expanse of the field, all sorts of flowers foreign to him retreating from the ground. not to mention there was the lake, water glistening in the sun and clear enough to see the rocks below. he looked up through the leaves and blinked at the sunshine peeking through, creating shadows that cooled his skin from the heat.
he looked back at them, smiling and waiting expectantly for him to answer. this time he focused on their features, with the softness of their lips and the fluffiness of their hair, strewn with leaves not only on their head but clothes as well. with colors he used to hate and skin soft against his, still supporting him as they sat there in the tree.
he nodded, small smirk twitching his lips, "i think it's the prettiest sight i've ever seen."
all too soon his time at hogwarts came to an end.
chishiya shuntaro had just finished sitting through the ceremony for the graduation students, receiving his diploma and a handshake for completing all 7 years of school. that wasn't what occupied his mind however. instead he was focused on trying to find that hufflepuff, wanting - no - needing to see them one last time.
he probably ran through all of hogwarts before he found them, standing on the bridge that connected the buildings of the school and staring out the large window that looked out towards the land hogwarts lay on. chest heaving he slowed to a stop right beside them, causing them to tear their eyes away and look at him instead.
he could feel his heart skip a beat as they smiled, so soft like warm hugs and fluffy clouds, one that he loved. and one that he decided the longer he stared needed to stay in his life.
he cleared his throat, trying to calm his racing heart, "after this, do you want to get butterbeer?"
their face changed to that of surprise, perhaps not expecting that he was the one trying to keep in contact with them. he had been stubborn in the beginning after all, but his walls had torn down the more he stayed around them, and he didn't want to let them go so easily.
"i'd really love that actually." their voice was soft, and they were about to turn to look back at the view when chishiya took another step forward, stopping them from doing so.
he ignored their confused expression as well as the churning in his stomach, hands reaching into his pocket for what he had stuffed inside earlier. crumbled stems and petals met his hand and he stared down disappointed. of course, how had he been so reckless as to not at least put a protection charm on it? but before he could mutter a sorry and put it back their hands had grasped gently at the plant, holding it in the palm of their hands as they stared down at it.
he waited with a beating heart for their response, knowing that they'd figure out the intentions of the plant. he had spent countless hours researching about the meaning of flowers after all, and he felt as if this one in particular was the perfect fit for the situation.
their eyes glanced back up to stare at him, and the smile that made its way onto their face put him at ease. they took a step forward and before he could protest their arms had wrapped around his torso, head buried in the fabric of his clothes and a small sigh of content leaving their lips. he glanced down, feeling his cheeks heat up as he hesitated before returning the embrace, hoping that they couldn't hear nor feel the racing of his heart at the close proximity.
sunshine beat down on his skin the longer they stood there, but it was nothing compared to the warmth he felt right now, spreading through his chest and around his body and enough to keep the flowers of summer alive.
of the purple lilacs in his heart, symbolizing first love.

red strings tie me down
Tumblr media
tw/cw - angst.
a/n - chishiya with the soulmate trope? i think yes.
Tumblr media
they say that in ancient times humans were born with two heads, four arms and four legs. they were powerful beings, strong and resilient, and the greek gods perceived them as threats to their thrones. to prevent such an outcome, zeus split the humans in half, and damned them to spend the rest of their lives searching for their missing piece. apollo, god of healing, felt sorry for humans, and decided to ease their pain. he created a red string, long and unbreakable, that would guide humans on their journey for completion.
the idea of soulmates was a widely discussed topic even during current times. although one could only see their own string, people were always encouraged to walk a path that would lead to the other end. as a child you were fascinated by the concept, your tiny mind desperate to grasp the idea that somewhere out there was a person meant just for you. you often wondered what they would be like. how their smiles would form and whether they preferred to sleep in or arise early. you longed to learn more than the red wrapped around your pinkie.
the string itself was beautiful, an apple red that twisted and swirled around your body throughout all hours of the day. it never tangled or got caught on an object, nor did it ever disappear out of sight. you liked to think that your soulmate would be similar. gentle and loving, always by your side. sometimes you even imagined that the string was your soulmate wrapping their arms around you, the bow around your finger a promise for forever.
and yet, you never expected this. you never expected to meet the person with the other end of your string in a world like the borderlands, filled with death games and violence. you had assumed it'd be under normal circumstances, like stumbling upon him at the store or following the string until the end. if it had been under those circumstances, you wouldn't have worried over the different factors that would play into your meeting. because before, your only worry was when you two would meet. and now, it was how you'd get him to love you back.
it honestly surprised you to see him upon entering the grand lobby of a seaside hotel. after a terrifying night of participating in your first game, citizens of the beach had led you to the so called utopia, and you had stared wide eyed at the hundreds of people dancing in the center of the room. it had been pure luck, or maybe it was fate, that your eyes caught onto the white hoodie in the corner of the room. something in your heart urged your attention to linger, raking it across his form that was leaning against the wall. brown eyes, appearing cold and calculated, watched the scene unfold before him. his posture was relaxed, but his expression screamed boredom, as if he had better things to do then stand there and people watch. you had found him interesting enough to stare for another beat longer, before noticing that your red string disappeared into the pockets of his hoodie.
your breath caught in your throat, muscles tense with anticipation. there was no doubt about it, people could only see their own strings after all. that man, whoever he was, was your soulmate.
you don't know what came over you at that moment. one second you were staring dumbfounded from the realization and the next you're brushing past several bodies as you stride across the room. a feeling of hope bubbled within your chest, the string seemingly pulling you closer to his direction. you barely thought twice over what his reaction would be upon meeting you. you had heard so many stories from completed souls and how they wasted no time filling in the missing parts. surely your soulmate would share the same thoughts.
when you finally reached him he only had the time to widen his eyes in surprise before you engulfed him in a hug. your arms wrapped around his neck like it was familiar, body pressed tightly against his own as you finally felt him. the warmth of his body and the beating of his heart, reminding you that he was real and not just a figment of your imagination. your heart stuttered within your chest, and all the aches faded away as it synced with his own. you were finally with the person you were in love with since before you even knew what the concept was.
"i found you." you whispered against his skin, fingers bunching up the fabric of his white hoodie. it all felt so surreal, like a dream or something out of a fairy tale. you didn't want the moment to end.
but then you were getting shoved off, thrown towards the ground from the unknown force. you blinked in surprise, head swimming from the sudden change of pace. what just happened? you lifted your eyes up, and you felt the smile on your face drop at the man's expression. you had assumed he'd be happy. or maybe even surprised. but the cold look in his eyes, the blank state of his face, that was far from the excitement you had anticipated.
"what are you doing?" he asked, voice dripping with acrimony and his eyes colder than before.
even with those words you still couldn't understand.
you quickly scrambled to your feet, taking a step forward but faltering when he took a step back. you brushed it off as shock, assuming that he wasn't the affectionate type. that was fine by you. it didn't matter if he didn't care for hugs or the simple brush of fingers. as long as he was by your side you didn't care what sort of relationship the two of you had.
you mustered up another smile, holding up your pinkie where the red string swirled around it, "our strings, they're connected. that means we're soulmates!"
you thought he'd finally understand with the words said out loud, but instead he scoffed, like the whole concept was ridiculous. his eyes drift towards the side, "what a joke."
confusion fogged your brain, still unable to grasp the fact that the mans words and actions meant exactly what you feared. you quickly took another step forward, holding up your hand, "but it's true, see? this means that-"
"it's just a piece of string. it doesn't mean anything." he interrupted, and the words made your heart break.
"but-"
"don't touch me again. and don't go around trying to talk to me. i want nothing to do with you." each syllable was harsh leaving his lips, winter storms swirling within the brown of his eyes. you were so shocked that you didn't even realize he had already left, disappearing out of sight.
but you knew which direction he had gone, the string followed him after all. you didn't know if that made you relieved or furthered the aches in your heart that had returned.
you stood quietly at the back of the room, head pounding from the blaring music and the words continuing to echo within your brain. he said the string meant nothing. but, that couldn't be right. because to you, it meant everything. you lifted your hand, studying the red, and the tears began to fall swiftly down your cheeks. it didn't make sense to you. how could you have thought so highly of this string of faith, loving every fiber of it, only for it to lead you to a man like him, who clearly did not feel the same?
why was he being so stubborn over the fact that you existed only for him?
-
days passed and you never ran into him again. either he really had disappeared, or he was really good at hiding. you figured it was the latter, since your short time here at the beach had shown you that members weren't allowed to leave unless authorized to or for games. but you thought deeply during that time, coming to a conclusion. even though he was hiding from you, and even though he had been clear with his words of wanting no association with you whatsoever, you didn't spend years dreaming about the day you'd meet your soulmate just to give up over a few simple words.
no, you'd prove to this man that you two were destined to be, and you'd prove it no matter what.
you decided you wouldn't explicitly go looking for him. not only would it be meaningless because of your string, but you'd rather run into him by chance since you could blame it on fate and not on your own stubbornness. so, as you waited for the blonde strands to appear you took the time to explore the building you were staying in. you wanted to get used to it since you'd be there a while, but who knows. maybe you'd come across one of his hiding spots as well.
and a hiding spot you did find when you stumbled upon a door with a sign, different from the hundreds of others you've come across thus far. you inspected it, finding a white figure going up some steps with an arrow pointing in the same direction. this must lead to a rooftop then. wanting to see what the view would be like, you pushed the doors open, climbing up the stairs until you found yourself on the flat ground of the roof. you smiled at the clear blue sky and the hundreds of buildings in the distance, breathtaking and beautiful. you turned in a small circle, halting mid way when you caught a glimpse of white at the far corner of the rooftop.
there, just several feet away, was your soulmate, sitting down near the edge. his hands were in his pockets and his hoodie rested on the top of his head, just like the first time you saw him. realistically it could've been anyone, but the red string swirling around his body said otherwise.
smiling, you quickly psyched yourself up with confidence before walking over, careful not to make too much noise. he didn't immediately turn when you made your way to the edge, so you took that opportunity to slowly sit down. you made sure to leave enough space between you both so it wasn't uncomfortable, but still close enough that you could engage in a conversation.
"hi." you said, kicking your feet back and forward while wringing your hands between themselves. you waited nervously for an answer.
his eyes glanced at you, irritation visibly making its way onto his features upon recognizing you. he let out a sigh, turning away, "it's you again."
"you can't get rid of me that easily." you smiled, taking the chance to scoot just the tiniest bit closer.
once more he sighed, refusing your proximity as he turned around and stood up, "unfortunately not."
you watched in surprise as he began walking away, quickly scrambling to your feet to follow after him, "hey! wait! where are you going? i just got here!"
"exactly. that means it's time for me to go." he replied, not sparing you a single glance.
"at least tell me your name!" you shouted. you wanted to know at least something about this man, and knowing his name would give you a good start.
he paused, staring at you for several quiet moments. hickory brown passed swiftly over your face, and you almost had hope when he smiled, "no." he replied bluntly, reaching for the handle of the door that led back inside. you quickly pushed the door open as well, following him down the stairs.
"come on! you want me to call you the love of my life or something?" you were being sarcastic, but if it really came to it you wouldn't mind having that in replacement to his name.
he stopped, turning around to look at you. you were just a few steps above him, clearly taller, but even then you felt small when he fixed you with cold, brown eyes, "call me that and i'll push you down the stairs."
"then give me something to call you!" you quipped back, your stubborn nature returning as you refused to look away. something told you if you did he would never open up to you, and that was the last thing you wanted.
"how about, 'off limits'" he muttered, turning back around and continuing the descent.
"that's not-"
"later." he replied, giving you a mere wave from over his shoulder. his words and actions were frustrating beyond belief, but still, you didn't want to give up. at least he was talking to you, and even that in itself was exciting.
you walked just a few feet behind him, taking in everything you could during that tense silence. his hair was dyed blonde, roots coming out to its dark natural color while the strands curled at the bottom. he wore the same hoodie from the first time you met, white with not a speck of dirt. it looked cozy, and you briefly wondered if it smelled just like him. what did he smell like anyways? maybe fresh? or sweet?
"stop following me." he broke the silence, and it surprised you that he could tell you were still there. you were being as quiet as possible after all.
you quickened your pace to catch up to him, sending him a mischievous grin, "i'm not. we just so happen to be going the same direction."
"i'm sure that's the case." he muttered back, having not bought your white lie in the slightest.
you hummed, clasping your hands behind your back, "since you won't tell me your name, how about i tell you mine?"
"don't care." he was quick to reply, but you didn't let the answer deject you.
"too bad, i'm going to give it to you anyway."
at the sound of your name falling from your lips he didn't seem phased, expression remaining as unreadable as ever. but you thought you saw the slightest bit of emotion flicker across his eyes.
the man suddenly stopped, your feet quick to copy him. you thought that perhaps he'd finally come to his senses and talk to you, your smile widening at the thought. instead, however, he opened a door, disappearing within the room without a goodbye.
you blinked in surprise at seeing the closed door, realizing it was a hotel room and you could not follow in after him. you sighed, running your fingers through your hair. but even though the man was irritated the majority of your interaction, you still considered it progress. he had talked to you after all, and even though you didn't even know his name, you had learned a lot about your soulmate. this made you smile, and you quickly shouted that you'd see him tomorrow before walking away to your own room.
-
despite the borderlands being the world you met your soulmate in, it was still a cruel one, and every now and then you had to leave the beach in order to play the games that allowed you to live. at first it scared you, recalling the violence and death that stained every crevice of the earth. but the thought of seeing him if you survived was enough to get you through each and every one.
your recent game was tougher than usual, a 7 of diamonds that ended with only two survivors and a lot of blood. unfortunately for you, most of it came from the crimson dripping down your arm, searing and painful. but you were alive, so you took yourself to the infirmary that resided in the beach to get it inspected and bandaged without so much as a cry for pain.
you sat within the room quietly, having just gotten the wound cleaned and tightly wrapped. you were waiting for the woman who had helped you to return with extra gauze and some painkillers that would get you through the healing process. as you waited, swinging your legs back and forward, you saw the door open, heart stuttering within your chest at recognizing who it was.
he closed the door behind him and looked up, eyes hidden beneath his hoodie. but you could still see the surprise evident on his face, quick and fleeting. he glanced down to the white gauze around your arm, and for a split second you thought that you saw a flash of worry. or maybe it was confusion, but he was still wondering what had happened to you, and you took that thought with you and kept it close to your heart.
the woman came back, handing you the items and you thanked her before looking back at him. you watched as the male made his way over to the same woman, asking her something and she nodded before walking off. he continued to stand there, waiting, and you decided that you'd try and initiate yet another conversation.
"now, before you ask what i'm doing here," you began, earning a scoff from the male.
"i wasn't going to." he stated bluntly.
you ignored him and continued on, "i'm all okay! barely any injuries in fact!" you flashed him a smile, to which he just released another scoff and glanced away.
"doesn't look like just barely." he muttered, meaning he really was examining the extend of your wound.
the thought made you happy, and you were quick to reassure him, "you see, it may look like that, but it doesn't even hurt!" you picked up your arm, regretting it immediately when you winced from the heaviness of the limb and the pain that spiked along your skin.
"sure." he replied, glancing away at seeing the woman come back. she handed him what looked to be medical supplies and he thanked her swiftly before leaving. quickly you hurried after him, opening the door and following the red string that went up the steps. you caught up to him rather quickly, clasping your hands behind you back as you walked beside him.
"where are we going today, love of my life?" you asked, giving him a wide smile.
"i told you not to call me that." he grumbled, picking up his pace.
you picked yours up as well, "i don't really have any other options now do i? oh! i could call you soulmate, would you prefer that?"
it was definitely not what he wanted to hear. his eyes hardened, and you tried not to falter under the gaze, "are you always this annoying?"
"i wouldn't say annoying, but more so driven." you quipped back.
"more like stubborn."
you let loose a small laugh, "sure sure, we can go with that too."
all too soon you arrived at his bedroom, feeling the disappointment bubble up inside of you. you had barely caught up to him and he was already leaving, the interaction far too quick for you to savor. you wanted nothing more than to continue talking to him like this, even if he was being mean to you.
you tried your best to mask your disappointment, keeping the smile on your face, "i'll see you around then-"
"chishiya."
you blinked in surprise, your brain not comprehending the name that had fallen from his lips, "what?"
he sighed turning back around to face his door, "my name. so stop calling me all those ridiculous pet names. it's annoying."
"chishiya..." you whispered to yourself. you smiled, liking the way it felt on your tongue. it suited him, "i'll see you around then, chishiya!"
he just stared at you for a moment before nodding, disappearing inside of his room just like before. you felt your heart burst inside of your chest at not only having a name to your soulmate, but he had also agreed that he'd see you around. maybe he was just accepting the fact that you weren't going away anytime soon, but the small progress was better than nothing.

thinking about vampire chishiya who never sleeps and lowkey only started talking to reader because their blood smelled nice. they end up having a whole fake love thing where chishiya is really only in for the blood, being all smug and shit as he bites their neck and stuff and reader is just oblivious, weak in their knees anytime chishiya gets hungry and asks for a bite. but omg anytime another vampire goes near them he is SO OVERPROTECTIVE and he’s like ‘nah this human is mine go away before i snap your neck.’
edit cuz i needed to add this uhm bonus points if reader realizes chishiya is gonna live forever and asks for him to turn them into a vampire and he just refuses, not wanting them to suffer through transformation and not wanting them to become a monster like him

“ HEARTS FORMED BY SOLICITUDE AND DESOLATION ”
Tumblr media
tw/cw - light angst.
a/n - this is apart of a series. check out partnering companies. part one.
Tumblr media
ever since that day you and chishiya haven't skipped class, but the two of you did put eating lunch together into your daily routine. the cafe was one of your favorite spots to go to, but you and chishiya would also find new ones, specially with sweets to try them out. you guys also got into the routine of studying in the library together, although it was more chishiya complaining about the work and you complaining back about how annoying he was being. nonetheless, you both always found yourselves back at the same table tucked in the corner of the library despite the annoyances.
today was one of those days where you both decided to leave campus and find this crepe stand you had heard about. the two of you walked side by side, shoulders bumping occasionally due to how busy the sidewalk was and you'd prefer not to lose your friend in the crowd. looking up from your phone, you managed to find the stand exactly where the map had indicated. you tugged on the sleeve of chishiya's hoodie, the blonde taking his eyes away from whatever he had been staring at to look at you and finally to where you were pointing.
after successfully maneuvering through the crowd you and him began waiting in line. your eyes scanned over the menu, thinking over what sort of fruit and flavors you were craving. maybe strawberries? oh but the bananas seemed just as appealing.
you turned towards chishiya "what flavor are you getting?"
he gave a hum in response, his brown eyes settling to your own. "some strawberries sound really good right about now."
"strawberries it is." you sang back. while waiting for your turn you began surveying the area, taking note of the couples walking hand in hand and the children tugging on their mother's sleeve. it was especially busy today in tokyo, due to the fact that spring was slowly turning into summer and students were either on vacation or enjoying the weekend off.
you felt a hand press down on the top of your head, turning it to meet the eyes of none other than chishiya, "we're up next."
no sooner had he said that did the previous couple leave, and you and chishiya walked up to the owner. you both ordered your crepes, waiting patiently as it was made before paying and walking away. your mouth watered upon seeing the fresh strawberries and the chocolate drizzle surrounded by the warm pastry. chishiya had already taken a bite out of his, but before you could a child and it's mother blocked your path. said child wasn't crying, however you noticed the way their bottom lip trembled as the way they eyed the ice cream that had taken an unfortunate fall towards the side walk.
without thinking you walked up to them, leaning down just slightly to hand out your crepe. they watched the treat, confused, taking at quick look at their mother.
"you can have it, i'm not that hungry anyways." you smiled warmly at them as their eyes brighten, gingerly taking the treat and giving you an energetic thank you. their mother thanked you as well, patting her child's head before they both began walking away.
you felt chishiya come up behind you and you turned around to suggest that you guys head back but stopped upon seeing his expression. in the time that you've met chishiya, the only expressions you've seen him make were the smirks when he teased you and the blank face he had been making just moments prior. this time however, chishiya was making an expression you couldn't quite read, despite you being good at reading people. he seemed surprised, perhaps because you had just given away the crepe you've been craving all morning, but there was something else too. the way his eyes gazed at you, there was such a fondness lying in them that it made your breath catch in throat and you couldn't explain the meaning behind his gaze.
chishiya seemed to finally notice that you had been staring at him as well. his eyes widened just a fraction, something close to fear flashing in them before he looked away. you continue to stare at him, confused. what was he so scared about? you broke out of your own thoughts to the feeling of chishiya brushing past you to continue walking. you hurry to catch up to him, not missing the way he had put distance between you two that wasn't there before.
you decided to ask him about it since you couldn't busy yourself with your thoughts by eating, "you ok? you seem...i don't know, off."
chishiya finally looked down at you, no smirk appearing on his face as he quickly looked away, "it's nothing."
you pout, hating the monotone response. if you had asked that question any other day chishiya would tease you about your concern. but for some odd reason, he was shying away from you. what had changed? did you do something wrong?
suddenly chishiya stopped walking, causing you to stop as well as you waited for him to say something.
"i'm going back to the dorm." and that was it. chishiya didn't even wait for a response from you. the bastard instead began walking away, leaving you by yourself in the middle of the sidewalk in the busy streets of tokyo.
"bye.." you half heartedly held your hand up in a wave before lowering it slowly back to your side. you thought you were good at reading people. you thought you had figured out the mystery of shuntaro chishiya. but that was not the case at all. because right now, you were seeing a whole new side to the blonde you called your friend, a side you hadn't been expecting. and you weren't sure how to deal with it or what to do with the new information.

apparently whatever had affected chishiya's mood that day at the crepe stand had stayed with him. the asshole remained moody, no longer giving you the same greetings in the mornings and whenever you initiated a conversation before class he'd give short answers, indicating that he wanted out of whatever it is that you guys were talking about.
at first you didn't think too much into it, brushing it off as something personal. but after a couple of weeks of the treatment chishiya was giving you you began to worry. maybe you really had unintentionally done something to piss him off. but what was it? it couldn't have been the teasing, chishiya never had a problem with it before. did you forget his birthday? no, chishiya never told you his birthday and you doubted he was big on that sort of thing.
weeks seeped into months with nothing changing. it got to the point where chishiya no longer showed up to class, causing you to once again sit by yourself. the longer you and the male stayed apart, the more you realized just how much chishiya contributed to your happiness. you began to miss the teasing and the easy banter the both of you shared. you even missed his cocky attitude and the smart ass comments. you cherished the friendship you two had, and you had assumed that he did as well. so why did he push you away?
winter came, gray skies and soft snowfall replacing the season of autumn. your love for the snow blossomed upon seeing it blanket the city outside, especially pretty during the night. it also creates the perfect atmosphere for reading and studying, and even adds to the christmas spirit. fitting since the holiday was coming up soon.
you were sitting at your desk, listening to soft music while reading when your phone began to vibrate. confused, you answered the phone call without checking the caller ID, immediately regretting it when you heard her voice through the small device. as much as you wanted to hang up and throw your phone, you listened to what the older woman had to say. with each passing second your irritation grew, wanting her to get on with the purpose of why she called you. finally she let the words out, and after having what she told you sink in you thanked her before hanging up. you sat there, not knowing how to react. were you sad? did you feel bad for your family? your relationship with them was never good so you figured that you'd just go on about your day until classes started. however it seemed like you didn't know yourself the way you thought you did. you didn't even notice you were crying until you saw the small stain of tears littering your book. maybe you were just upset about what happened with chishiya, not about the news you had just received. you found comfort in letting that idea be the reason for your tears before letting them out more freely, properly grieving for the first time since it had happened.
and after letting your sorrows out you curled up in bed, hiding beneath the blankets as you blasted music in your ears to block out all thoughts. you didn't want to think about anything, your mood was depleting by the second and the long term sadness that chishiya had created within you didn't exactly help.
hours passed, you remaining in your same spot. you hadn't even realized that class had started already until you heard the faint knocking on your door. you waited, trying to figure out if you had simply imagined the sound before you heard it again, this time louder. you removed yourself from the blankets, popping you earbuds out of your ears to hear that the knocking was not knocking but actually someone banging on your door. irritated, you hoped that if you didn't answer the stranger would leave you alone. however the banging did not cease and you were forced to answer less you wanted a complaint from the other students in your dorm building.
you opened the door, ready to tell the asshole to knock it off and get lost but the words died in your throat once seeing who it was.
"what took you so long?" chishiya looked you up and down, taking in your state of appearance. "you look horrible."
you rolled your eyes. after months of one word responses and that's what he tells you? he should at least have the decency to explain himself, "thanks. bye." done with talking to him you begin to close the door but chishiya wedges his foot in between the door and the doorway, preventing you from fully closing it. "what the hell? get out."
chishiya didn't say anything, instead removing a hand from his hoodie pocket and placing it on the edge of the door, pushing it open. "why weren't you in class today?"
well of course with your luck the one day you miss class chishiya would be there. still, your frustration from his attitude and the current mood you were in made you look past the detail. "none of your business."
you moved to close the door again but his hand pushed it back open. this time however he took the initiative to actually enter your room.
"hey! what are you doing?" you watched as chishiya glanced around your room, and it was in this moment that you really stopped to think about how messy your room currently was. clothes littered the floor and books piled up on your desk and floors. your cheeks warmed upon seeing chishiya glance at the underwear you forgot to throw into your drawers after laundry day, his eyebrows raised slightly and the corner of his mouth twitching up in a smirk.
your cheeks warmed even further, hurrying to pick up the discarded garment and others along with it to save yourself from more embarrassment. you stopped however as you watched chishiya lean down to pick up the coat you left on the floor as well. after standing back up he threw the coat at your face.
"put this on. we're leaving." you scrambled to remove the coat from your face, glaring at chishiya as he watched you with his blank face.
"we sounds like a lot of people. you need to get out." chishiya didn't even blink at your comment, continuing to stay silent as your glaring intensified.
after a while of you both just staring at each other you realized he wasn't going to give in. finally you sighed in defeat, standing up and shrugging your coat on. you reached for your shoes at the front of the door, putting them on and walking after chishiya as he left the room.
you weren't sure where the two of you were going. the blonde remained silent the entire walk, and you stayed silent as well. in fact, instead of talking you were trying to figure out why chishiya had shown up to your dorm in the first place, and also how he knew where you lived.
after some time of walking you began to recognize your surroundings until finally you saw the crepe stand from months ago. you hadn't bothered to come back to it, remembering all too well that that was the day chishiya began to avoid you. you figured chishiya must have had a bad memory with the day as well so he'd try to avoid it. however that was not the case and you were surprised to find chishiya changing his direction to head towards the stand. eventually you both got in line, more questions finding their way into your mind when chishiya bought only one crepe.
still without a word he lead you to a bench nearby, wiping off some snow left there before taking a seat. wordlessly you sat beside him, about to ask what this was about before he handed you the crepe.
you stared at the treat confused, and chishiya just sighed, nudging it closer. "it's for you."
your confusion turned into surprise. was this his way of apologizing for that day? or was he just trying to make you feel better? still, you took the treat, mumbling a thank you before taking a bite, the sweetness evading your mouth and causing tears to roll down your face.
chishiya's eyes widened slightly in surprise before returning to normal, "why are you crying?"
you wipe the tears away with the sleeve of your coat, avoiding his intense gaze. "sorry i just..." you paused, not knowing the answer yourself. why were you crying? was it because after chishiya ignoring you for so long, finally getting his attention made you emotional? "this crepe is just really good. kinda sad i didn't get to try it the first time."
you turned your head at the sound of chishiya laugh, the sound so brief and small that you would have missed it if it weren't for how quiet it was this afternoon. you're heart warmed at the sound, as well as at the pure happiness stretched on chishiya's face for that split second. before chishiya's only form of showing happiness was through his smirks, and even then he was just amused at whatever scene was unfolding before him. however this was different. chishiya just looked so carefree and content that it made you wonder why he didn't laugh like that more often.
a comfortable silence settled between you two as you finished your crepe and chishiya watched whichever pedestrians passed by. with each bite you really thought about how much you had missed this, just basking in chishiya's presence. and as you finished your crepe, you really wanted to know why it had to end so abruptly.
"hey...what happened that day?" you move your gaze to chishiya's brown eyes, his face unchanging as you waited for his answer.
finally chishiya spoke, "i was trying to figure out some things."
you give him a sad smile, "still, i wish you wouldn't have ignored me like that. you can talk to me you know."
chishiya didn't apologize, instead giving you a small nod to let you know he understood.
"did you figure it out?" you asked. chishiya furrowed his brows in confusion, "whatever you were thinking about."
chishiya looked away from you, looking up towards the light snow that had begun to fall from the sky. "yeah, i did."
you gave him a nod, missing the way his mouth held not a smirk, but a soft smile. he quickly replaced it though with his usual blank face.
"and what about you? why didn't you show up to class today." chishiya asked, looking away from the sky to settle back on you.
you tense at his question. being with chishiya had temporarily made you forget the events from that morning, but that bliss was gone now and you were reminded of that phone call.
you look down at your hands, playing with your fingertips as you recounted the events to the blonde, "my mom..she uh called me today. she said my sister died last night." you cleared your throat, the next words coming out of your mouth in a rush. "but it's not a big deal. me and her weren't that close anyways. i kinda hated her to be honest."
you waited for chishiya to say something. or maybe for him to just sit there in silence. he did neither of these things however. you looked up in surprise as you felt him place his hand on top of your head, looking at you with a serious face. "sorry for your loss."
you couldn't help it. the serious way he had said those words and the fact that he had a hand on top of your head with no other gesture made you laugh. chishiya watched, confused at your outburst.
your laughing fit died down enough for you to speak, "sorry just the way you said that. god chishiya i didn't realize how bad you were at comforting people. glad you're going to be a surgeon and not a therapist."
chishiya's confusion changed to irritation real quick. with the hand still on top of your head he pressed down harder, causing you to apologize profusely for teasing him and beg him to let you go.
he removed his hand and put it back in his pocket, waiting for you to settle down fully. once you had he stands up, you following closely behind. after throwing away your trash you guys begin walking back to your dorm.
another comfortable silence settled between the two of you as you walked, different from the tense one from earlier. you were glad that things had finally gone back to normal and that chishiya was back by your side.
a strong breeze passed by through the evening, causing you to shiver. although the rest of your body was fine, your hands were cold, and unfortunately for you your coat had no pockets to stuff them in.
chishiya took notice of your shivering, stopping in front of you. "your hands are cold?"
you gave him a nod, showing your shaking hands, "i left my gloves at the dorm and for some reason my coat doesn't have pockets."
you gave a light hearted laugh, but the laugh died down in your throat as you felt a pair of hands grab a hold of the ones you held up. despite him not having gloves either his hands were warm, and your skin began to grow hot under his touch. he softly rubbed your hands with his own, causing your once cold fingers to warm, even though they were already warm enough with his hands over them. it surprised you even more as you watched chishiya lean down and blow on them softly, his eyes glancing up to meet your stunned ones.
your heart began beating really fast, the rynthm reaching your ears and for a sec you were scared he could hear it. however despite your nervousness you weren't able to tear your eyes away from his, the gaze so alluring that it continued on sucking you in. in this moment you were suddenly aware of how beautiful his eyes really were, how attractive his beauty mark and eyeliner was to you, and how strong the urge was to kiss him.
you don't know where these thoughts came from, or how long they've been in the back of your mind. chishiya leaned back up and you followed his gaze until you were now looking up at him.
"better?" he asked, and you reminded yourself to nod since you weren't sure you were able to trust your voice. chishiya glanced down at your hands clasped in his, watching it for a second before removing them and stuffing his own back in his pockets. "let's get going then."
chishiya began walking once again and you willed your legs to work to follow after him. the rest of the walk to your dorm was filled with silence once more, you replaying the events that just occurred over and over in your head until you finally arrived at the familiar building you called home.
you both stopped in front of the doors, not saying anything. your voice still wasn't working and you worried that if you looked at chishiya he'd be able to read what you were thinking.
thankfully chishiya didn't ask about your behavior. he just glanced at the building before looking at you, "i'll see you tomorrow then."
you watched as the blonde began walking back, yet you still made no move to go back to your room. you wanted him to stay. you wanted him to hold your hands in his once more. you weren't ready to say goodbye.
so mustering up as much courage as you could you ran forward, wrapping your arms around chishiya's waist. you felt him tense under your touch before relaxing. he made no move to push you off, so you took the chance to relish in the way he felt in your arms and how warm his body was. so it wasn't just his hands.
"thank you..for today. even though you suck at it you still tried to comfort me and people say it's the thought that counts right?" you spoke softly, still high in the feeling of shuntaro chishiya.
your hold on the male tightens when you feel his hands ghost over your own. he didn't place his hands over yours, but your heart swelled at the small gesture nonetheless. whether it be on purpose or intentional, it was chishiya, and you held on to the feeling for as long as you could.
reluctantly you removed your arms from around his waist, cheeks warm and your entire body on fire. you didn't dare look into his eyes, for all your courage had been used up in that moment. instead you said a quick goodbye, turning quickly towards your dorm building.
you turned over in your bed, laying on your side as you hugged your pillow. you looked at your hands, remembering the way the cocky bastard had held them so gingerly.
that night you lay in bed, mind still full of your classmate. you werent sure how long you've had feelings for him or how they came about, but you liked the feeling of butterflies in your stomach and the racing of your heart from just the thought of him.
you already miss the warmth shuntaro chishiya brought you.
