Hello hello!
I was rereading Choi Han’s indignity test for the thousandth time (I need more little rok soo pls I'm desperate) and the thing that catches my attention now is the clues.
It says food, warm home, clean clothes, and abundance of food for dinner.
Not thinking about any other clues the author did not show us (there was definitely so much more; we were robbed–) because that would drive me insane from what we know so far (there’s so much yet so little I wanna cry).
Anyway, some found it confusing how there were two notifications about ‘food’ and ‘abundance of food for dinner’ so now I want to word vomit about it.
There is a difference between having food to eat at all and being in front of so much food there’s no way you could eat it all.
Food in general was scarce for Kim Rok Soo at that age (well, at most of his ages but anyway) so imagine being Rok Soo and letting a stranger take you to their house because you want to avoid your own and instead of the things you probably had been expecting, this total stranger just.  Started putting food in front of you and tells you to eat.  To eat all you wanted.  And he leaves for a bit and Rok Soo enjoys the cartoons you rarely get to watch because the TV makes too much noise and you don't want to be locked away in your cold and dark room again.  But then the guy comes back with even more food and when you tell him you’re full he looks.  Devastated.  And the man hides the food he thought you didn’t see, which is so ridiculous you almost crack a smile, until he brings out an apple pie, and now you’re baffled.
And what really gets me is that Choi Han calls him a good boy.  And little Rok Soo looks baffled.  And there is no notification about comfort or praise covering up his indignity.
Which implies he is already at that stage where he does not know how to take compliments seriously and just assumes the person is either lying or stupid (which may track in his logic for this stranger that brought some random kid home and just started feeding him).
Or it implies that compliments and praise were never something Kim Rok Soo thought of wanting.
You can’t focus on wanting to be loved if your priority has to be finding a way to survive.
Which tears my heart into pieces because.  This little baby, o my lord, I wish you could feel safe enough to want someone to say something nice about you, that you lived well enough to be concerned about people liking you.  I wish he knew that there would be people who loved him, waiting for him in the future, and that he would not only feel lost forever.  I wish he was living well enough to want to delve into his favorite books with open fervor, talking with others who were reading the same thing and discovering a new way to see a story.  I wish he could feel safe enough to express himself in any other way that did not say ‘it does not matter much what happens anymore’ and ‘I don’t have the strength to go against all of this despair’.  Because this little kid grows up to be so strong, in ways he can’t even see in himself because he’s too busy lifting other people up from groundless depths.
And he grows up to be something so big, and so warm that it’s such a happy miracle he survived the environments he lived through.  And even after suffering so much loss and failure, he still can’t help caring for people.  And he does it in a way he is conscious of, but he explains it away as a strategy to survive, and it’s his selfish way of finding solace in bright young futures he never had.  Because he needs to justify it.  Because simple kindness can be thrown away and mistrusted so easily, and it can vanish in an instant.
So he explains it away as a selfish action when he wishes to find solace in saving others.
In becoming the comfort to others he did not get.
In becoming the person he wanted to save him.

Ah yes, some of my absolute favorite characters, can you tell I have a type?
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Rich unreliable narrators that think they're horrible people (factually wrong) and will do anything for family/friends of which they don't think they're worthy of (again, factually wrong), with a pinch of "doomed by the narrative" and a tea spoon of red flags and criminal activity

Do you guys ever think about Kim Rok Soo?
Not the Kim Rok Soo that we know, the one that had not a single worry in this world, the one that could trust his parents, the one that did not discover how cruel the world can be yet, the one who never knew what hunger and cold is, the one that felt the love his mother and father had for him every day, the one that was not afraid to get hurt or sick because the adults around him would take care of him until he was healthy again
Do you think he was a loud kid?
Do you think he liked making friends at school?
Do you think he would come back home and tell his mom and dad about his day?
About his new favorite cartoon?
About the insect that he saw earlier?
About a new food he liked?
Do you think he used to not be afraid to irritate people around him just because he existed?
Do you think his love for books started at school or it began when his parents would read stories before he fell asleep?
Do you think he used to refuse to eat his vegetables?
Do you think he learned how to tie his shoes before he was alone?
Do you think he wanted to have a pet?
Do you think about the fact that maybe he used to make a mess while eating, and one of his parents would come and clean his face?
Do you think that maybe when he got afraid of the dark, he would come to his parents room to sleep?
Because I just did...

Another snippet of my bd au heh
Cjs looked at krs dead in the eye. Krs had a weird sense of foreboding that he was not upto anything good. His eyes shifted to Raon, who was laughing in cjs's arms.
'Yeet?'Cjs mouthed
'Dont you fucking dare,' krs blinked back
Cjs smiled, too innocently for krs's liking.
"Yeet it is"
"No-"

Would anyone like to hear about my crack AU where Cale and Cale (as in KRS!Cale and WS!Cale) get sent to ORV, and just…don’t get involved with the main characters. They’re twins now and KRS!Cale decides to collect this world’s version of everyone he worked with on Earth 1 and restarts the Company. Persephone is his sister now. There’s even more Thames lore.

Sometimes, the best way to tell people is to be blunt about it
When Bruce got back home with Tim by his side. Tim look more.....different to say at least. He wasn't the same from the quest.
The first thing they notice is that how much did Tim's appearance change, his hair have been longer, to the point he could pull his hair up for a ponytail. Next it's his ear, they have somehow more.....sharper to say at least, it make Tim look like an elf because Tim face look also beautiful, so beautiful like an elf. His pupil also a bit sharper, it was like a snake eyes. If they haven't run test on Tim, they might thought he was an imposter that takes Tim's place
The second thing they notice is that when he was still robin, he have hesitated at some of the attack and he didn't even realize that. It was almost a habit.
But now that he's back, he got more confident, more brutal than before. Not as the same as Jason or Bruce but his attack are more precise and more fierce. He also perfect at most weapons like sword (it wasn't a league move, it's more smooth than that and it wasn't specialized in killing. Where could he learn it), bow, spear, daggers.... most of it were weapon used in medieval area. But he can also use a gun precisely, like Jason but wasn't as skill as the other weapons. His style have definitely change
Tim has always been the best strategist of them all (minus Cass) when it come to battle against those stronger than him. His plan might seem crazy at the time but it has always working well. And after the dark time, his plan even more crazy and has always been him that take the most heaviest task making him always the injured one, and yet even if he's the one take the most damage, everyone that was under his command have never die, no one in his area have ever dies at all. It was almost as if things have always set to goes his way. When Tim making plans, his face got more serious, calculated and cold, not the same joyful little Robin anymore (this different make it the most hurtful truth for them, how much did Tim change from that is really....hurt)
His costume and codename have change, no longer a bird or a bat but even if he didn't relate to any bird or bat, he's still family in the end, like Jason. Tim have change his costume to black and blue, much to the like of Nightwing. He have also use a white mask, when Tim first got the white mask, he looks like....a manic to say at least, he say something like "Just like the old time" or "If Jason can use the old name of a shitty clown then I can use the appearance of a white radish" in which......it doesn't make sense to most of them, even Cass. Like who's this "white radish" and why does Tim have a distaste for that person like how Jason is with Joker? They didn't ask of course so it remains a mystery, for now. They might ask in the future. Tim have change his costume into something more loosely and not like a jumpsuit anymore. Tim have told them that he want it a bit comfortable so he could move more easily. He still kept the belt of course but his style have also change to a bit victorian mix with normal vigilantes. There's also a mystery bag inside the belt too and for some reason, they got everything that you could think of. Cass said it was a magic bag, so they all just.....not question it, when Tim feel if it is time then he would tell them himself.
He change from Robin to Red Robin (it said in the report that Red Robin is only temporary, it was only for the purpose of bringing Bruce home) and now to Irad (which they found out it was a Middle-Eastern origin for Dragon name. It mean 'an empire dragon with exceptional leadership qualities'. It...fit Tim well). Tim change from a bird to a dragon, just like how Tim's last name implies.
Tim have change so much and it was something they all have mixed feelings about it, some are regretted not there to witness it, some just think it is how it should be. It was like all of the progress of their relationship started from zero with Jason when he died, except this time it was them push Tim away in his darkest moments.
_______________
______________________
Tim didn't feel sad much with the way most of his family spend time together. He also spend most of his time with his other family. It wasn't that he doesn't love them, he do love them but he also want to catch up with his old family and most of his family also kinda busy so he didn't bother them much.
He feel a bit guilty alright (he kinda ignore his new family, he shouldn't have done that but.....he really mixed feeling with them. Damian hate him and he didn't think Damian would like to be in his presence so maybe not, Jason...well Jason is a bit close but he also didn't think Jason ever like him either even if Jason have stop calling him "pretender" long ago. Cass...Cass still good to talk to but she's busy and he won't try to disturbing her much, Dick...Dick kinda hard to bond after the dark time as he implied that Tim was crazy, it kinda broke his heart for him to choose Damian but it wasn't as painful as the death of his old family. But really, don't put him in the same category with Clopeh or White Star or Joker, or even Venion, he didn't want to be label crazy when there's someone crazier than him. Bruce, Bruce have always been fine, a coworker in the line of vigilante of Gotham, though he did look up to Bruce for a bit because he's a hit similar to his father, but nowadays he kinda see Bruce as his dad, he did noticed the love Bruce have for him like a family, he have seen those sign so much on his father so it was really easy to read Bruce. So yes, he care for Bruce like how he care for his father. Alfred......Alfred like his grandfather, he respect and really care for him but he fear the day Ron and Alfred team up with each other when they meet, they would be the most effective and also the scariest duo in the entire world.) so he will have to talk to his other family about meeting his new family. But his father kinda throw that out of the window by reaching him. His father as always, predictable yet also not. Not a surprise
"Which new you want first, Raon? I have two types of new that one might go for your liking while other is not. Which one do you want to hear first" his father still use his old name, it was because he ask him to do so as his father is the one give him the name, he is always welcome to use that name and only him
"Worst to best, you know it, father"
"Worst new is that Clopeh Sekka reincarnated as Ra's Al Ghul, your resident immortal." His father said in a tone that could describe as fear for him and wasn't that a surprise. A white snake, of course Ra's is that fanatic white snake. He should have known with the way Ra's obsessed with him after he blow up many of his base. Dammit, should have guess it, if he knows then he could have avoid him be best he can. Why is Clopeh nearly become white star anyway-
"The other new is depend on the situation, with how the God of Death involve in this, you're one of the Thames now" Rok Soo said "I know that you already know the secret of the household long before all of this, but I won't keep the research from our ancestors from you and you can keep it somewhere else. You could think of it as a pass on to the younger generation"
Now this is a surprise, he have always wonder if he actually got his grandmother's ancient power ever since that particular event. This just confirm his theory about it, he might have gotten it after all. This shouldn't have been a surprise since he also used to have an attribute that's related to time too, but it did surprise him anyway
He is.....related to his father's family, he's related to his father. His father trust him with the research of the family. His father trust him
Tim come forward to Rok Soo as he hug his father tightly, his father hugging him back and oh, he miss the feeling of hugging his dearest person in his entire life. His hug fill him with many feelings: warming, safe, love and much more positive feelings. It have always been nice when they hug each other like this.
Though Tim might not notice but Rok Soo have notice the other people in the room. Batman might not show it but he's hurt...a bit since Tim willing to call the stranger "father" with so much love, he show his affection so openly and wasn't that just sad? Tim have always been serious and have been so independent, he mostly focus on work that it hard to reach out so when Tim show affection to the stranger, it broke Bruce's heart just a little bit. Is it bad that he want to be in the stranger's place? But he knows that with how distant they are, it was hard to achieve that level of familiarity.
Cass comfort Bruce, she know it is hurt Bruce to see his adopted son willing to call the stranger man "father" with a tone that can described as loving. The way Tim willing to let his guard down and hug the scar man as he keep his smile, his bright smile when he talk to the stranger. Tim have never been this happy, didn't even let his guard down this much and just openly show his emotion except for a few occasions like when they didn't notice him having a small smile behind, loving behind those blue sky eyes. He might not admit it but he do care for Damian all the same too. Tim never show his loving side much and yet he already knew that she knows it as he didn't even bother to hide it in the plain sight. But it definitely still hurt to see Tim being so close to a stranger.
"Hm, Tim, don't you think you forget that there's your family here?" Tim snap out of his and father world to look at his other adopted family, now he feel awkward for showing this embarrassing side of him. He look more like a kid now, which made the two of them feel sad with how some of them were the one that made him hide this innocent side.
(They really shouldn't know about the time when he was still in Young Justice or the time he was still Raon Miru, so many explosion and they definitely can't know about how they actually destroy a whole island with a few bombs. They will never let it down with his new title as the most destructive robin, he might take Jason on that title for that actually-)
"Sorry, I know you guys have question but...maybe in the morning? Promise I will explain about all of.....this?" he awkwardly said, he still hug Rok Soo while the said man is patting Tim's head like how a father patting his little children's head. Rok Soo have that amused smile on his face.
"You could tell them all, I got permission already so you can go ahead and tell your family. It would be unfair if we kept them in the dark about all of this" Tim give Rok Soo a look of doubt, it wasn't that he doubt his father anything about telling people but more of a certain sentence that really struck him a moment of doubt. Since when have his father ever ask for permission anyway? He have never asked someone for permission or anything like that, he can asked for things nicely but that was only when he scammed some a hole
(His father never ever asked things nicely like a normal person, because if he do then that person might lost all of their fortune in a night.)
"Raon, put some faith in your father, I have ask Choi Han's permission. I can promise you on that"
Ah, Tim can see it now. He ask the one that down for him bad, no wonder.
"Uncle Choi Han huh.....well I can see why was there a permission"
He knows that everyone in their family down bad for his father, it was a trait they all pick up from nowhere. They might disagree with Rok Soo if it might affect his father's health but other than that, they just follow him with no question ask as he's forever the leader and they won't listen to anyone without a question like him. So yes, he will put this down, for now.
The only thing he needs is that he would beg his adopted father in this world do not fall in love with his father. This is the only thing he ask for when both his father would definitely meet up regularly. He have enough people have a crush on his obvious father and he didn't need another one.
"Please Bruce, I can explain everything when everyone is there in the morning. I can swear on my life with God of Death's oath-"
"Raon" Rok Soo now have a dark face as two vigilantes now both confused at his tone
"This is the most effective way to let them trust me and not some kind of mind-controlled or manipulation okay? It wasn't like they would kill me as I would be telling the truth all the time and explain in a more detailed way-" both Bruce and Cass getting concern with the way he words it, this is a dangerous thing isn't it?
"Raon Miru Henituse, I won't say this twice but do not try to use that oath ever again" Rok Soo seem so concerned about this oath, he look really annoyed when mention said oath
"But you use them too! Weren't you make that oath when you talk with Choi Han way back?" Oh god, how did Raon know about that time, Rok Soo didn't know if he should cry or laugh at this, this is karma wasn't it?
"Aigoooo, now this come bite me from behind. That was before everything that happens because of that oath and you know it Raon"
"I- fine, no death oath I guess" Tim huff as he know there's no use fighting someone that was even more stubborn than Bruce, even more stubborn than him when it comes to certain matters.
"What's this death oath?" Batman growls at them, yeah so Tim forget that Bruce hates been in the dark so yeah, might just tell him and explain tomorrow then.
"Well, Death oath is an oath that whoever made the oath would bounds to it like a contract, if you goes against the oath you made or ignored it and break it then you will get a curse that's you will die and reincarnate with your memories intact and then everyone that you love in your life would die either natural causes and mostly violent death and you reincarnate and you love someone and they die and you reincarnate again and love someone again and they die,....It would continue until the end of the time or that you wish to dissapear from your life forever" Tim explain it casually like it wasn't something that should be traumatic and should avoid at all cost.
Cass jump to Tim and warp her arms around Tim as she look at Tim disapprove with his choice now that both of them know the consequences of the action of the oath.
"Then don't make the oath. We will believe you. No need for oath" Cass say in a dark tone, she dare him to not listen to her as Tim hold his hand up in the air as a sign of defeated
"I won't- promise" there was one thing he always listen when it comes to this house is that no one goes against Cass words so he won't
Now the awkward silence just came back to them, and Tim have been the center of the conversation which now it make him more intense with the atmosphere. That was until Alfred cough to caught their attention as Rok Soo tenses at the sound like he have seen a ghost. They all give their attention to the butler that standing right at the stair right now
"If you gentlemen will, maybe we should get to rest for tomorrow as young master Tim state that we should discuss everything when everyone is there. Mister. Rok Soo, would you follow me for the guest room I have prepared for you at the moment right now" Alfred smile in a way that might say friendly but for Rok Soo, he might look like he have seen Ron number two. It didn't need to tell twice as Rok Soo nob before follow him. Maybe Alfred kinda spook him a bit even if he didn't even show it on his face, but he knows his father well that he know his father would do anything to keep Alfred and Ron meet each other for as long as he can for they could get along well or there will be a bloody battle waiting for it to happen anytime soon.
________
________________
"So this is not my first life, not that I mean no one have their past life but more of I remember my past life" Tim just casually eating while his adopted family stay still in place, some drop their food and some with their mouth hanging right now. Even Damian look a bit surprise, not to mention Alfred too
Rok Soo? Oh he's still asleep alright, he's still asleep peacefully on his bed, might be because he's tired from traveling to this world. Traveling world in their experience is always tired
"What-"
"Ra's is also reincarnated to this world from my world too, and he's obsessed with Rok Soo - who's my father in everything but blood- well actually I didn't ask him if he's one of the Thames this time but I willing to bet that he is, even if he weren't then still family either way" Tim struggle like it was just a normal everyday life - which might as well be with how his life be - and not just drop a bomb of information out of nowhere.
"....Timmy, Tim, baby bird, you did not just drop that kind of information like it wasn't a big deal in the table like this" Dick said, why is this his life again? It shouldn't have surprise him so much with how their life goes but it did anyway.
"Timber, what the f- heck? You remember your past life? No, we will go back to that information later- what do you mean that Ra's also reincarnated to this world like you?! What do mean that Ra's is obsessed with your father??" Jason point the fork at Tim, in the line of a vigilante life, life have always been a surprise and it shouldn't have been a mind blown like this shit. Tim has always been a surprise but this really take the cake.
"Oh you see, Ra's used to be our enemies so father undercover as a saint to gather information. When we capture Ra's, Ra's has been in a world of pain with Vicross and then when my father reveal that he's the saint that he trust, his world falls apart. And maybe from the fear that he has for father, he have obeyed every words and for whatever Mary - my sister in anything but blood - said something to him and now he have worship my father and he would do anything for father. Really, I should have known he has always been a snake in past or present life, I could have avoid him but noooo, I gotta be an idiot and get involved with him anyway. So there's that" Tim both explain while complain at the same time, not his fault that Clopeh suck as he even keep everything related to his father, now it might happen to him too and that he still think Ra's still keep his spleen.
"I can't believe this is my life" Jason groans loudly, that one maniac that their family wary of, the one piece of shit (no more than Joker but still piece of shit either way) is someone in other world?? And Tim know him that long???
"Alright, we will go back to the previous topic then, what do you mean you remember your first life?" Bruce didn't prepare enough coffee for this, he should have but he has underestimated the situation and this happened
"Isn't it obvious? It is what it mean, even though it definitely wasn't my first life, my first life was before my world regress back in time to my second life. I got 8 years worth of trauma when I combine both life as I got tortured since I was born." After that sentence comes out, now his family is tense in the worst way possible, really, it wasn't that bad anymore. He made peace with that time.
But his really have different reaction and it wasn't a good kind of reaction either. Traumatic, yes but it has been so long since then so why would they react like that?
Bruce look so heartbroken and really, that hurt him as much since he didn't want to see Bruce like that, it was like Jason all over again. Dick look like Scarecrow has hit him with fear toxin, and he looks practically want to kill too and wasn't that the scariest thing? He kill the Joker before after all. Jason? His eyes is glowing a bright green as he hold on to the fork that was ready to stab anyone at the moment right now. He's so angry, maybe it triggers the time he got tortured by Joker? Yeah, that seems possible.
Cass look so....pain, she look like she want to hug him and beat someone right now. So how does he know that? Spend many time with Cass and he have also seen that look in his older siblings (not the bats siblings, more of his first siblings). Duke didn't even look better as he was like he got hit by a truck. Barbara and Stephanie might not be here but he knows they're listening right now, he knows them like the back of his hand at this point but he might feel lucky because he didn't want to know what face are they making right now. He definitely don't want to know because woman are scary (not Mary, she's a saint to him. She's his precious mentality adopted sister). Damian looks.....well...he looks a bit hurt but maybe it was his imagination because there's no way Damian likes him.
"Tim...." Oh, Bruce voice look so hurt, like the Joker have hit Jason all over again. Okay he shouldn't joke about that but he looks like it though.
"It's okay though, it might hurt but it has been so long since then so I don't even practically mind about it anymore. Sometimes I get nightmares but that was it, it wasn't much" oh, they didn't even look better, maybe he should have word it more careful then, because they look even more hurt.
"Tim....who's the guy that torture you?"
Oh definitely an answer can be easily said, he thought it would be harder to be fair
"Venion, his name is Venion Stan, he did torture me but in the end he suffer in prison. Well at least before that we did torture him for 4 days as a payback for everything he did to me but I promise I didn't kill him. Dragon's honor" and wasn't that a satisfied answer, Jason nob in approval, Cass have a small smile of a sadistic maniac right now and he won't touch that ten pool, Dick was somewhat satisfied with it although there's something more behind it and he don't want to find out what it is, Duke look so nervous between the siblings and yet there's a dark satisfaction behind it and really, he's fit the members of the family already. Bruce, well he looks conflict for a bit but then set down on the 'If he didn't kill then there wasn't even any problem with it' look, nice to know he wasn't disappointed in him? Damian also nob his head in approve of the decision in which....yeah expect of that, he was raised by the league so he shouldn't be too surprised.
"I didn't expect that from you but you have all my support in doing so" Jason raise a thumb up at him and it was definitely restore his spirit a little, his spirit would have die young if one of them didn't approve of that
"I didn't torture him directly actually, it was our chef that torture him. He's a torturer expert ya know?" Now everyone is looking at him weirdly, wasn't this a normal thing though? Alfred can torture (Alfred could have in the past and he won't put that away), Jason can torture for information like how Vicross did, HE can also torture when it was needed so why would they look at him like that?
"Your....chef, is a torturer expert?" Bruce ask slowly having a headache, why is all of his kids weird?
"Yeah? Wasn't that a normal thing?"
"Timmy, Tim, little bird, it definitely wasn't normal, for normal people anyway"
"Well maybe, our chef Vicross is an assassin from a fallen household and he has served us in the past, still did when we have a meeting every week" ouch, and wasn't that hurt? Tim meeting his old family for a while now and they didn't notice much, they even have less of a full family bonding time as it was rare and Tim just regularly meeting them every weekend?
It was hurt to see one of the members of the family getting so distant, that and getting closer with someone else.
"You know, speaking of visiting the others, I was hoping if you guys would like to visit my family for the meeting. I was about to talk to them about it too and planning on surprise visit but since my father already here so I guess it wasn't necessary. I will just ask bluntly for this." Tim shrugged as he done eating his breakfast, he bring his plate to the kitchen as his family peak up at the mention of the visit. This could be a chance to getting along with the third robin, they all could bond together as they meet the people that have their family member's back.
They really should discuss what to do when the time come.
Though as they about to plan for the trip that Tim invite them to, Alfred comes back with a bunch of flowers, and three gifts in a fancy looking box, a fancy letter that look suspiciously like the one Ra's would give them that attach to the box itself. Well, if it was Ra's then it would be a surprise for the way he send like how normal people did.
"Hm?" Tim came back as he goes for the box that Alfred now putting in a counter right now "Young master Tim, I have see that you have someone send you this in front of the manor despite I wasn't aware that I open it for anyone. Would you happen to know this person or is it some admire you have?"
Huh, Tim look at the box as he see a familiar type of signature in the letter. He take the letter that attached to the box as he open it. He read it out loud
"Greeting, Tim
Or should I say, Raon Miru Henituse?
I know that you know me since I put my signature out for you to see so you won't confuse me with that maniac.
So the first thing is that I want to say is that I'm apologize for attack your family in the past, particularly Nightwing. I know that what ever I offer couldn't made up for my mistakes but I would still apologize nonetheless. All I could ask for is that please, please have mercy on me.
Second of all, if you decide to tell them then I do hope that goes well with you. How do I know this? I got some inside information so hope you don't mind about that.
Anyway, enjoy your gifts and see you soon this weekend.
Sincerely, Bud Illis
Or you would know me as-" Tim didn't finish his last words as the other voice finish those last words
"Slade Wilson Aka Deathstroke, take him a while to discover your identity, my little dragon" Kim Rok Soo said as he step into the dinning room. It was at this moment, Dick jump up at the identity of the person that write those messages
"Slade?!?"

This part in 32 chp always felt kind of odd to me and this is the reason why:
The coward wolf boy, Lock. Until Choi Han found him, Lock had been hiding as the chief had told him. The Lock at that point is very much a coward, a weakling, and kind of slow. In simple terms, Lock easily took the position of the character that readers found to be extremely frustrating.
This has bothered me since I first read the novel, and to this day, even after several rereads, it still haunts me.
Cale simply isn't the type of a person to actually call a kid, no matter how they behave, to be "frustrating".
(When the text said "readers" it's damn well obvious of Cale being the one to think so.)
Pondering for some time I can roughly guess why the wording was so unexpected for his character.
At the time of the assassination/kindaping in the village, Lock was only thirteen years old. He also hasn't had his first berserk transformation yet. Therefore it is not surprising that Lock's uncle hid him and told not to go out, saying that everything was fine and he should continue to hide.
Now let's look at the situation realistically.
Lock (in tcf) jumps out of his hiding to protect his younger siblings. The adrenaline and inner Blue Wolf Tribe's instincts to protect turned on his berserk transportation one year beforehand, however if not Rosalyn and Choi Han, who came earlier than in the actual novel, i don't think it would help much.
Lock would possibly be able to kill a few people or at least seriously injure them, but CMON. They killed an ENTIRE village full of berserk Blue Wolf's and with almost-Wolf King (Lock's uncle). Do you really believe that a thirteen years old boy jumping into his first berserk transformation would be able to fight properly against strong organization that had holy water or some sort of holy artefact on their hands?
Again, if not for Choi Han's and Rosalyn's arrival... it would have definitely ended pretty bad.
In TBOAH Lock for some reason didn't jump out. Different circumstances, wrong wroted part in the novel, idk, but the fact is stated: Lock stayed hidden. He also most likely survived only because of Choi Han's help. Just with much worse scenario where he was left alone from the whole village.
And it wasn't Lock's fault yet again. He was a child. No matter if a Beastman one or not, the boy was just an innocent, naive and weak child.
So why would Cale, Kim Rok Soo at the time, find him frustrating? Extremely so even!
The answer is much easier if you think about it.
Because it wasn't Kim Rok Soo blaming a kid for being weak and cowardly in a fearful situation, it was a man who saw his own past that he hated so much.
A coward, a weakling and kind of slow.
For Rok Soo, who blamed himself for half of his life for the deaths of team one members, Lock was like a salt for still open, but ignored wounds.
KRS greatly disliked and maybe even envied Lock for a bit. The boy got a new family, he got friends and some sort of guidance from them even after facing so much despair.
While he was all alone, trying to understand what to do on his own.
It sure is irritating for Rok Soo.
Yet Team Leader Kim Rok Soo was probably unable to fully hate Lock for his weakness, because while the latter was still a kid, the same forgiveness can't be used on him. At least in his own head.
So with conflicting feelings Cale settled on "Extremely frustrating" description.

Can just say, I love how on almost every TCF cover, we get Cale AND Raon?
Aside from a couple exceptions, where he's either alone or there are other characters (such as Choi Han and the kittens – and I think there's Kim Rok Soo on one as well?), no matter whether it's novel or manhwa or fanart, we consistently get the two of them on covers. Together.
And yes, I realize some of it is because Raon is a Dragon and Dragons are cool to draw and basically the staple of fantasy... but that's not the main reason why and we all know it.
While Choi Han is definitely one of the main characters, if I had to name two most important characters in TCF... it wouldn't be Cale & Choi Han. It would absolutely be Cale & Raon, hands down.
After Cale himself, Raon is present in almost every arc in the story (I think the only exceptions are the Sealed God's Test, when they got forcefully seperated, and the Sealed God's Temple because Cale had him stay outside). Choi Han seperates himself from Cale on occassion to go on missions and stuff, but not Raon. He's there because he wants to be, intentionally making himself the most prominent member of the cast. He solves problems no one could solve aside from a Dragon. He stays by Cale side when he's sick and suffering. He literally acts as second-in-command after Cale used Instant, despite being a child.
But back to the cover – yes I'm sure part of the reason why Raon is always there because he looks cool. But it shows what an important character he is. In fact, I don't believe this story could exist without him.

Blurry Faces
Cale Henituse | Kim Rok Soo x Transported!Reader
Cale hated peeking into your life without your consent, and yet here he is, seeing the things you have went through and how they shaped you to be the person you were.
trigger warning: implied sexual assault and pseudo-incest, mentions self-harm scars, suicide, death.
Tumblr media
You don't know where you are. A man, no, a child is holding your hand. You don't know anymore. Faces and bodies are morphing too quickly for you to comprehend.
"Please." A voice pleads to you, the way it has been doing for the last few days. Has it been days? Years?
"I don't want to," you say with a broken voice, tired of rejecting this request over and over again. "I don't know you."
"Yes, you do," the voice insists, sounding like a chorus of people talking. "You are the reason why we are here, why we have a home."
John disappeared a long time ago, taking his pleasant memories with him. He had faded slowly to the point he was unable to acknowledge you before he completely disappeared, leaving you alone. You were left alone and in the dark, as your memories played over and over again, good and bad. His memories no longer overlapped yours and you no longer see him. The memories that flashed in front of you had begun growing shorter and shorter, cutting the memories of you and Cale along with the others as if it never happened.
You feel like you were being gaslit. You remember waking up to see Cale, holding his hand and crying over him. You remember the sweet tea you share with Rosalyn, the amused grins with Alver, and the laughs of the children. You remember them. Let me remember them.
"They don't exist," insisted the voice.
"They do!" You fought back. You will hold onto these memories until your fingernails bleed and claw marks appear on them. You don't care. The moment you let go, you know you cannot have them back. You cannot enjoy life anymore if you let them go. "They're my-"
"They are your nothing," the voice spat. You feel rigid hands held onto you and force you to turn around. You were faced with the scene of your life before, one with your father when you were a child.
You see your child self sat on her father's lap, grasping at his shirt as your child self looked out at the rowdy playground, much too shy and scared to join the other kids. You see your father's large hand patting your back comfortingly, bouncing your child self on his knee to soothe you. You hear your father's comforting words as he talks to your child self.
"Come on, sweetie," says your father in a soothing voice; his voice so soft that you were stunned at the memory of the tenderness he was showing you. "I'm here for you. Take your time."
"No!" You exclaimed, turning away from the scene and walking away until the scene faded away. "Stop it!"
A scene of your mother appeared, her holding resting on a hospital bed with her face laden with sweat and tears. She held onto a bundle of blankets, cooing with tears in her eyes as she spoke to her baby. "Hi, [Name]."
What is all this? Why are these things happening? Why are you being shown the love within your mother's eyes for the first time here, and not when she was still alive? Why does your father comforting you over a rowdy playground have been so easy, but not when you started to show symptoms of depression?
"No, no, no!" You yelled, crouching down and covering your ears, eyes closed tight as tears threatened to spill. "They're all dead to me!"
"[Name]," a familiar voice called, too soft to the point it felt foreign.
Suddenly, you were five again.
You look up at the faces of your parents, young and not yet influenced by their suppressed emotions and rage. Your mother smiled at you and your father pats your [h/c] hair.
"Come here," says your mother softly, kneeling down and hugging you so gently that you burst into tears. This is not your mother. Or is she? You don't know. You never thought of her to be capable of showing tenderness or love in a way that wouldn't hurt you.
"Mom," you cried. "I'm so sorry, I'm so sorry--"
"Sshh," your mother says in a comforting voice.
"I was--" You struggled to breathe as you tried to hold down your sobs, tears streaming nonstop and your throat hurt from the strain you're putting on it for not crying out. "Please, go away."
"No, I love you," she replied, and your lips quivered, more tears streaming down.
"I hate you."
"I know," she murmured. "I still love you."
You don't need her love. You have taught yourself to love yourself, to be better and other people have loved you immensely. You don't need her love. You have enough of your own.
"I hate you," you whisper breathlessly.
"I love you."
You broke down, crying to her shoulder, your arms limp by your side as you refused to hug her. Your mother doesn't deserve a hug from you. You've cut your skin too many times as a result of her actions and you will not show her love with the same arms.
"My baby," your father says softly, joining the hug. His hands felt rigid and when you looked down, his nails were caked with dirt underneath them.
"Stay here with us."
Tumblr media
Cale covered his mouth and nose when he saw what was underneath the roots of the main tree of the island.
Piles of skeletons filled what used to be a great hall underneath the roots, most of them stacked high on the stone altar. They were all brittle and dry, proof that it had been a long time since they all died. Despite that, the stench of a rotten corpse wafts in the air.
"Urghh..." Ohn grimaced, covering her nose with her paws, staying with her sibling outside of the cave.
"Cale-nim," Rosalyn says, eyes staring at the rotten corpse of a man leaning on the stone altar, head down with a gaping hole in his chest, dried blood around him along with guts. "Her Highness' story about a man on this island..."
They had previously believed that the corpse of a man Withira had mentioned must be the man from the folklore of the Whale kingdom. The corpse of that man was holding the hand of another body that was laid on the altar in a tight grip.
'[Name],' Cale thought to himself, tempted to step closer the moment his eyes laid on the scattered [h/c] hair on the stone altar from afar, laid underneath the skeletons piled on top.
Rosalyn let out a soft gasp when she saw your body, eyes going glassy as she covered her mouth. "Is that...?"
"Be careful, Cale," Choi Han warned, recalling the story Withira had told them about being attacked when she got too close to the altar when she needed to confirm whether you were alive or not.
Cale stayed quiet, trying to rack his brain on how to move from their spots.
'Will I be able to control the trees around here?' He thought to himself.
'Perhaps,' the gluttonous priestess answered him. 'But... I feel something within these trees. Something divine.'
'Divine?' Cale repeated. This cements the three saints' suspicions of you being tricked by a god. He tries to identify some of the things he could work with and classify whatever god had once been worshipped within the island, but he comes up with nothing.
"Wait," Cale says, observing the corpse of a man further from where he stood. "Ron, confirm to me whether or not that's Captain John from where you are."
Ron frowned, bending down a bit to look at the slumped corpse from afar, eying the uniform and the crest that was embroidered on the corpse's blazer. Despite how the head of the corpse was down, Ron could easily spot the signature scars on the man's arms. He closed his eyes in resignation once he found his answer. "I can confirm that is Captain John, Young Master-nim."
"So the last two had been here," Cale murmured.
"It appears so," said Ron, standing up straight.
"What to do now?" Choi Han asked Cale. They don't have much room to move with the knowledge they will get attacked if they get too close.
Cale let out a sigh. This island had cobblestones, surrounded by trees, and the ocean wasn't too far away. He had Choi Han, Rosalyn, and a mighty dragon here.
"We will now commence our rescue mission," Cale says, his voice firm. "Miss Rosalyn, Raon, and I will try to take care of the defense while Choi Han tries to grab [Name] from the altar stone along with the captain. We have to try to not fight the island and immediately escape back to the waters where the Whales are waiting for us."
Many things could happen if Choi Han tried to do that. The ruin could immediately collapse on them as they were being held up by the strong barks. If the strong barks let go of them to attack Choi Han--
'This is your playground,' says the gluttonous priestess. 'This island might belong to a God, but you can control nature here to a certain degree to save [Name] and retrieve the captain's dead body.'
Cale raised his hands, watching as the strong barks of the tree twitch to his will. He would not be able to control the main tree as its size was too big for him and most likely is the manifestation of a god that was once worshipped on the island. They would have more control over the tree than him.
Choi Han silently walked to the altar, the sound of his footsteps nonexistent as he took cautious steps and his hand held the handle of his sword, ready to attack anything that came his way. He pushed away the piling skeletons from your body, all of them falling to the ground and shattering due to how brittle they were.
Choi Hand placed a hand on your cheek and let out a relieved, excited smile when he felt warmth. "[Name]..."
"I-Is she alive?" Ohn stammered, watching Choi Han's smile widen upon touching you.
Choi Han looked up, nodding with glassy eyes. "Y-yes. Her breathing is a bit shallow, but she's alive."
"Come here, [Name]," Choi Han says softly, tucking his hand under you and trying to lift you. "Let's go home--"
Choi Han paused when your body couldn't be picked up from the altar. He looked down at your unconscious body, trying to find the reason why he couldn't lift you and he saw a few of what seemed to be long vines that were on the ground and had crawled up to your hand, up your arm, and then into your sleeves, the way they crawled up your hand resembled veins.
"Something's wrong," Choi Han announced to them all.
"What's the matter?" Cale asked, watching Choi Han rip your sleeve off.
Choi Han tilts your body a bit to face the others and show off the way the green thick vines attached themselves to your skin, arranged like veins with leaves. He ripped your shirt further, stopping when he saw how the vines gathered right above your left breast, gathering into a circle and penetrating your skin, dried blood dripping down your skin.
Rosalyn covered her mouth at the sight. "Oh, God, is that... Are they going straight for her heart?"
A cold chill went down Cale's spine at the realization that the reason you might be still alive was because the island was keeping your heart alive. Had you... became one with the island? Are you the reason why the island has become sentient?
Choi Han touched the stems that gathered in your heart, noticing how the vines seemed to be pulsing along with your heart. He figured they were acting like some sort of cardiac device for you. His heart sank when he realized it was far too dangerous to rip off the vines. "We can't take her away."
All of their eyes widened in surprise when the vines and barks seemed to move and form a tall, humanoid figure that loomed over Choi Han. A dianthus flower sat in the center of what seemed to be its face.
Tumblr media
"Did you think you'd be able to fool me?"
Choi Han covered your body with his, his sword drawn out to protect, gaze growing dark as he glared at the humanoid figure made of vines and moss. "Who are you?"
A thick bark came out and swung over towards Choi Han but was stopped mid-air. Cale's hand was raised, stopping the bark from moving. He found himself overwhelmed with the amount of strength he had to put out to stop the entity from moving. He coughed out blood almost immediately, the blood coming out like vomit. At the same time, Rosalyn had put out a shield over Choi Han and the altar.
"H-Human!" Raon exclaimed, watching as Cale dropped to his knees but still kept himself to stop the entity from moving. The kittens ran to his side and Ron held Cale back so he wouldn't slump forward to the ground.
'He doesn't... feel malicious,' the Super Rock pointed out, sounding a bit flabbergasted as he was referring to the entity.
"Leave," commanded the entity, pointing to the ocean where Withira and her Whales were waiting for them.
"Not without [Name]," Rosalyn said with a determined look. A chill went up her spine when the humanoid figure turned its head to look at her, the singular dianthus flower in the middle of a blank slate of face somehow making him look more unsettling.
"I'm afraid that's not going to be possible," says the entity. "She is happy here."
The entity leaned down to Choi Han. The branches creak and snap as the blank slate that acts as a face was suddenly split widely like a monster opening its jaw.
"I was--" Your voice emerged in an echo from the entity's opened jaws, your voice sounding broken as it sounded like you were crying. "Please go away."
Rosalyn let out a shudder, tears gathering in her eyes at the sound of your voice again. She had nearly forgotten how your voice sounded. However, Cale was unnerved at how this entity was capable of having your voice. How does this all work? He can see the vines that formed the humanoid shape are connected to the one that's crawling up your heart. This entity most likely was keeping you alive by itself.
The entity's jaws creaked and then closed again back to a blank slate. "Leave."
Cale frowned, looking up at the entity. He's determined to know why exactly you were being kept alive. "What are you?"
The entity straightened itself. "It no longer matters. I've lost all the people willing to worship my name."
"So you're a deity," Rosalyn said, confirming their suspicions for the last few weeks. You wrote in your letter of believing it was a god or some kind that had been communicating with you within your head. Deep down, Rosalyn was relieved this wasn't a case of psychosis.
"Then is this your attempt to get more worshippers?" Cale asked. "By taking an innocent woman?"
"One that belongs to me," says the entity, the vines, and branches that were formed into a tall humanoid figure elongated until its blank slate of a face was close to Cale, the single dianthus flower swishing with its movements. Cale was looking up at the entity in front of him. He could feel an incredible force of it all like he should be getting on his knees and pressing his forehead down to the dirty earth, but he didn't.
Cale looks up at the god, face hardened with a determined frown.
'It is most likely an ancient god,' says the gluttonous priestess, her tone a bit hesitant as she could sense the weakness within how the God controls their branches. 'Can you feel the divinity within their branches and vines? He is channeling the lives of hundreds into that [Name] girl. I never thought that could be... possible.'
Cale glanced around the skeletons that were around the ruin. These were the remains of the dug-up graves they had stumbled upon earlier. These people were their worshippers and they have dug up desecrated their graves and put them here.
"Leave!"
The ruins seemed to shake from the sheer weight of the god's roaring voice. A thick bark sprouted from the side of its body and swung at Cale. The redhead immediately conjured his silver shield and a loud bang was heard when the bark hit it. Cale felt blood coming up to his throat and he coughed it out, his heart pumping wildly as the Vitality of the Heart pushed him to keep standing.
"Cale-nim!" Choi Han exclaimed. He was about to move from your body when a couple of vines had managed to wrap around his feet and keep him in place. He swung his sword at them and with every vine cut, more grew and grew up his limbs.
"Fine," says the god. "She's in need of a new heart, anyways. I can see you all are special."
Cale's eyes widened and he immediately put the pieces together. Why John managed to be here was because he was needed for his heart. The reason why those graves were dug up was because the god was desperate to find something to keep you alive, and it made him think there must be some sort of intangible force of energy that only a primordial god could tangle and control that could bring back the dead.
John's rotten corpse with a large, gaping hole in the middle tells Cale that this god will not be hesitant to kill them all.
"Ron, take the children and go!" Cale exclaimed.
"Oh, now, you want to leave?" asked the god with a sinister laugh, going back to the walls of the ruin as vines and then spreading out. The trees and vines began to squirm, coming alive as their god returned.
This was their playground.
"Let's go," Ron says, bending down to pick up the kittens and immediately sprinting out toward where they had come from.
"Raon, go!" Cale exclaimed. "Make sure Ron and the others reach Her Highness Withira!"
"Y-Yes!" Raon replied hesitantly, flying towards where Ron had run off. "I-I will come back!"
"No, stay with them!" Cale yelled to him.
Rosalyn ran up to Choi Han and your body by the altar, trying to rip off the vines that were beginning to cover your body. This was the god's attempt to keep you away from them again, and she will not have it. She whispered your name over and over again, hands slightly shaking as she touched your warm skin every time she ripped a vine, how thorns began to grow on the vines and they buried themselves deep into the magician's hands everytime they claw to save you.
"Miss Rosalyn--!" Cale watched as Rosalyn's legs were caught by the vines before she was pulled down to fall on the dirty ground, thorns embedding themselves to her flesh.
"No!" Choi Han yelled in terror, trying to rip away the vines that were slowly beginning to cover his torso, wanting to save Rosalyn as she tried to free herself from the vines that were pulling her to the walls.
"Focus on her!" Rosalyn exclaimed as she was dragged, her face pale and cringing in pain. She seemed to catch on that the vines simply didn't want her around you and the best thing to do to not lose her leg was to stop squirming so much. "I will be fine!"
Cale barely felt the vines wrapping around his arms and before he could process it, he was immediately slammed to the walls of the ruin. His back hit the old stones and he groaned, the back of his head being hit causing him to immediately dizzy. He was suspended up on the walls, giving him a high view of you on the altar and Choi Han who was still on the ground, slowly being wrapped in vines and thorns.
Rosalyn was across him on the walls as well, suspended there while the vines grew up to their torso. Cale could feel the vines move across his body, slinking to his sleeves and then they probe around the scar on his chest. Without any warning, the vines tore at his flesh and he could hear Rosalyn's scream, her own heart being wrapped in vines as well as his.
"A-arghh-!" Choi Han groaned in pain as he could feel the vines enter his body.
'The kid's going to die!' Cale could hear the cheapskate shrill in his head. 'Cale, use me. Use your powers and get rid of this island.'
'He can't,' responded the Super Rock. 'The island is keeping that [Name] alive. If he destroys the island, he kills her as well.'
'It's either he kills her, or he kills not only himself, but everyone here,' argued the thief.
Amid all the chaos, the Fire of Destruction whispered to Cale in a pleading voice.
' Kid, you have to let her go.'
Cale recalls your smile and your voice. For a moment, he nearly thought his Records have failed him when he nearly couldn't muster the thought of your eyes, but when he managed to finally grasp onto the memory of you, he held on to it.
Cale felt his eyes begin to grow weak, vines wrapped around his heart and he could feel his shirt being soaked in his own blood. The vines carefully avoid poking too much into his organs and some of them soak up the blood. The vines seemed to glow the moment they were touched by his blood, and every single vine that was tearing at him was connected to yours. He could only assume Rosalyn and Choi Han were given the same treatment. They most likely will die out of blood loss if this keeps on going.
'Cale!' the Ancient Powers inside him call for him, like a parent calling desperately for their child.
Cale closed his eyes, and he mustered the power to call for thunderbolts. He could feel it brewing in the skies right above them, and he could also feel himself slipping away. By the time the first thunderbolt struck, Cale was no longer conscious.
Tumblr media
"Oh, that's awful. I feel sorry for them."
Cale blinked owlishly as he stared at you. You were sitting down in front of him, dressed in modern clothes and your laptop open. Across from your seat was a faceless man, long legs stretched as the faceless man sat sideways on the chair.
Cale looked around, noticing that the space he was in was a cafe, similar to what he used to have in his previous world. He looked down at his chest, seeing that it wasn't wounded. He then goes back to stare at you as you converse with the faceless man, a look of faux disgust on your face. He leaned forward to look at what was on his laptop, seeing it to be an academic manuscript. Is this... your memory from your previous life before being transported?
"Uh, yeah..." The faceless man says with a small, nervous laugh. The faceless man seemed to turn to you. "I don't understand why she's so adamant about keeping her distance from you."
"She'd rather have her fifteen and six-year-old daughters to see her suffer than have me take care of her," you said nonchalantly, typing away at your laptop to cite a passage.
"[Name], please," says the faceless man, turning to face you properly. "I-I know I'm being shameless by asking you to take care of her, but I can't--"
"You'd rather have me take care of your wife than your kids?" You cut him off, glancing up at the man.
By the bits of information, Cale could assume that the faceless man was your stepfather. He had known your mother had remarried after divorcing your father and you had two stepsisters. Your mother had died due to stage four breast cancer and lived only within two months before dying. You had been the one to take care of her despite her verbal abuse every time you visited her.
"[Name], please."
'Ah, so this is why,' Cale thought, watching you rubbing your face in exasperation before you let out a sigh of resignation. He had always wondered why you took care of your mother when the woman had been nothing but horrible to you. It was the request of her husband.
"Okay."
Cale wondered why he was seeing all this. He recalled how the vines had glowed when it touched his blood and every single vine that was glowing had been connected to yours. He could only hypothesize that he had been connected to you in some way and it would allow him to get a peek of your past; of the things you've been hiding.
Cale sees your stepfather reaching for your hand, murmuring a thank-you.
Your face seemed tired.
He doesn't like having access to your past. You're secretive for a reason and this felt like a violation of your trust in him.
The sight of you and your stepfather faded and it morphed into a living room, another faceless man sleeping on the couch. Cale could tell this was a different man. It might be because you only remember their outlines but not their faces anymore. You're in the background, cutting vegetables by the kitchen island with a tired look on your face. Cale approached you, eyes trained on how you expertly cut off the stems of a particular vegetable in your hand. He couldn't exactly see what it was, as it was morphing back and forth between spinach, cabbage, and cucumbers. Maybe you don't remember, and that's why your memories are filling the lost memories by themselves.
"How was she?" asked the faceless man lying on the couch.
"Sick," you replied curtly. The man says something inaudible and you sigh. "She's not getting any better, Dad. It would be better if she just died."
"You should just die."
"I'm trying," you clipped back, cutting the vegetables more aggressively.
There was a few moments of silence where neither you nor your father didn't talk. Cale sat on a stool by the kitchen island, watching how you frowned deeply while you prepared your dinner for your father together. He tried to touch your hand, and like a ghost, his touch went through your body. It unnerved him how you were in front of him, though younger in age, but he couldn't touch you.
His heart ached. This was you, but this also wasn't the you he knew. His memory of you in Record overlaps with the image he sees in front of him, but some things are different. Not only was your hair shorter here, but your eyes lacked the glimmer he usually sees within you. Your body looked thinner here, unhealthy. His eyes roamed over your figure, ingraining the sight to Records and just seeing how badly it had been for you.
"I'm sorry, [Name]," your father says quietly. "I was just... worried about your mother."
'But not me?' Your expression seems to say, but you stay silent and continue prepping the dinner.
"It's okay."
You cooked dinner and ate none of it.
Tumblr media
The dark clouds gathered above the island and Raon could easily tell that it was his human's powers. He had seen it too many times and had seen the risk that affected Cale's body whenever he used at least one of his powers. And when that rose-gold thunder struck down, the sound had vibrated the air. The flash of the majestic thunder reached them first before it broke the sound barrier and the thunder rumbled, the air around the island vibrating the moment the lightning struck down on the gigantic tree in the middle of the island.
"No!" Ron had yelled at Raon the moment the dragon had seemed to show his desire to immediately head to the burning island.
"But, human-!" Raon began to protest, turning to face the older man and he stopped when he saw the look on Ron's face.
Ron had always had the expression of faux benign and if not, he would have a slightly irritated expression. But this time, in his eyes that were reflecting the flames of the burning floating island, Ron sees some kind of firm belief and also desperation. How can the man show such a juxtaposition of an expression was beyond Raon who still had so much to learn about expressiveness and humanity, but he could see it.
Ron's belief that he could have his young master back many times like he always has kept him on his feet and stayed in his place, but this was going to be the first time he would have his daughter back, if that was even possible, that kept him antsy and hope as if he was a pious man that has completely willed their destiny towards something that couldn't sympathize with him. He desired to believe in salvation, not his, but yours.
You were so unforgivably human. A normal aspect within this superhuman group and the fact that they would be able to get you back tasted too sweet for his mouth that he felt like his teeth would rot and fall out. You weren't Cale. Choi Han. Rosalyn. For goodness sake, you weren't even Beacrox. You were you, with no superhuman abilities that were gifted or taught to you nor do you have a god that loves you so deeply that they wanted to keep you alive.
"Don't," Ron says, the embers of the burnt leaves and shrubs from the island blowing past them as if they're snow, the flames from the island illuminating their faces. "Have faith in them."
Faith, what a ridiculous word it was to come out of the mouth of a murderer. Have faith.
For one reason Ron could not believe in God was due to the fact that such a mighty being could never sympathize with humans. They were omniscient, so they could never feel how humans feel. They do not hate and love like humans do. Humans die and that is why they feel things so intensely. Gods were mighty and they exist for so many eras and they don't age. They see things as insignificant when it doesn't concern their reign. How can something mighty and timeless understand the pain and beauty of living?
The fire licked away at the leaves of the trees and the crackling sounds of the burning trees sounded so serene.
"Will they be okay in there?" Beacrox asked his father, looking at the burning island.
"It's only the top of the tree that is burning," answered Withira instead, looking up at the titan tree and how most of it was singed black at the top and the embers of the fire were eating away at the thick barks that swirled together like tendrils. "They're situated at the hollow space that is surrounded by the root. I doubt Cale-nim would strike down his thunder while they're there."
"Even so," Ron murmured, narrowing his eyes at the island. "Your Highness, may I ask of you to lead your men to keep an eye if any of them jump out of the island?"
Withira nodded slowly. "Of course. I'll have my men surround the island from a safe distance and keep an eye out."

Choi Han has heard you say multiple times in a joking manner that time was simply a concept whenever you were late for something, how time wasn't real, and how it really shouldn't matter that much.
He's starting to believe it.
He stood here, within the shadows of your memories, watching how days pass by in your memories yet it felt like minutes to him. How magnificent it was that a God could do this.
He learned many things about you. You were someone from the modern world, much like him and Cale. You suffered depression. You loved music and listened to it no end. You had an emotionally abusive father. You loved going thrift shopping. You weren't close to your sisters. You loved the cheap tuna mayo sandwich your classmate would bring you. You hated your mother.
You were practically living in the hospital to aid your mother. The cancer on her breast had spread fast and she had become paralyzed as it spread to her marrowbone. Her husband was busy at work so he rarely came by, but whenever he did, he would bring his daughters along to "visit their mother and older sister". You knew the nanny must have ditched last minute. Your sisters would leave, faces scrunched in disgust whenever the hospital room smelled like feces, and stood by the corner of the room quietly as you picked up your mother to change her diaper and clean her up every time.
Your father would be at home, refusing to visit your mother to respect her wishes to never meet again but incessantly asking for her well-being to you whenever you got home late at night. You wonder how much love your father has from such a violent woman that even though he was abandoned just like you, his love endured. You thought of him as stupid, but other times you wish you could have that preservance in loving someone. In believing in the idea of someone so much that it blinds you.
"What's that?" asked your six-year-old sister, standing by your chair as you were writing down your notes, your chair not too far from your mother's hospital bed, the older woman knocked out with morphine.
You turned to the little girl, smiling half-heartedly as you didn't want to be bothered. "It's just my notes."
"For what?" pestered the young child.
"Studying," you answered, setting down your pen and closing your book, giving all your attention to the little girl.
"I study, too," the little girl says, and Choi Han sees that you are hesitant to continue the conversation.
"Yeah?" You eventually prompted with a small grin, still uncomfortable. "What do you like studying about?"
The little girl waved her nemo doll fish in her hand. "Fishies."
You smiled, tired already from the conversation. You had a long day from watching over your mother. The woman had gotten high off of morphine and had hit you multiple times when you were trying to change her out of her diaper. The nurses doubled her dose.
"That's good. I like fishes, too."
You left to go to the bathroom and when you returned, Choi Han saw that your sister had drawn fishes on the margins of your notes. You touch them whenever you're concentrating.
There were moments like that that showed the girls appreciated you for watching over their mother. The two weren't blind to the abuse you suffered while you cared for their mother - your mother. You were doing your bachelor's while caring for your mother, studying all night in the dim hospital room, having no life outside of being a caretaker.
"Don't you get tired of it all?" asked the fifteen-year-old sister this time while you were leaning back in your chair, a neck pillow on your shoulders.
"I do," you replied to her, eyes trained on your sleeping mother.
"Then why are you still here?"
You turned to your sister, seeing the way she was so similar to her mother - your mother. Her lovely brown hair and gray eyes. You think of your mother. You think of how much potential she had had she not married your father, had she not given birth to you. What type of girl was she? Would she take the right side or the left side in front of a camera? What did she want to be when she grew up?
Choi Han watched you grasp the hand of your younger sister. "Because it'll come back. The love I have given here today will come back to me."
Your sister frowned. "I think it's time you start to care about yourself a little more."
An older sister who sees the need to be tender despite it all, and the younger sister who thought of her as stupid for loving a dead woman, Maybe you have become your father. Maybe that's why your mother didn't like you both; you were both idiots who kept on drinking poison just because you were thirsty.
As your mother's health deteriorated, Choi Han saw how much it affected your sisters. They cried at random times and were beginning to help around with taking care of her. Your six-year-old sister sings random notes in off-key to entertain her sick mother while your fifteen-year-old sister is learning how to help you lift the woman off the bed if you ever need to clean her up.
The day she finally passed away, you slept soundly in your chair not far away from her bed. It was the most pristine memory of yours that Choi Han had ever seen when you woke up, hearing the soft murmurs of the nurses as they gently shook you awake, how the heartbeat monitor was no longer beeping. Sunlight passes through the blinds and for the first time, the room feels light.
Would it be too cruel for Choi Han to describe it as if a great evil had finally disappeared?
You didn't participate in the funeral arrangements and simply attended with your father. He cried and you held his hand, thumb brushing over his palm to soothe his pain the best you could. Choi Han doesn't understand the level of love someone could have for the people who have made them suffer.
You stood outside of the funeral home, cigarette lit between your lips. Your fifteen-year-old sister stands beside you.
"Do you regret taking care of her every day? Just for her to end up dead?"
"I don't regret being kind."
"I bet you're thinking that it's good riddance."
Choi Han could see emotions bubbling in the teen's chest, how they were looking for an outlet to spill their feelings onto. To yell out their love into the void, because that was what grief was. To have your love nowhere else to go.
You saw it as well and threw down your cigarette, stepping on it to put out the embers. Your silence didn't help much as your sister began to choke on her tears before she eventually sobbed. You offer her a hand and she takes it, and you immediately wrap your scarred arms around your sister as if she were your lifeline.
"My mom," she sobs in your arms. "I don't have a mom anymore."
You stayed quiet, kissing her cheek and temple to ease her pain as best as you could. The action seemed to only drive your young sister to more crying; "I'm so sorry for all she's done to you... It's all my fault."
"Don't apologize," you whispered. "Children shouldn't carry the sins of their parents. You've done nothing to me."
"I exist," she replied, hiccuping.
"And how wonderful is that?" You cupped her cheek, smiling. "That you exist."
Tumblr media
Choi Han watched you sit with your sisters until the youngest one fell asleep with her head on your lap, while your fifteen-year-old sister still talked with you animatedly even though it was nearly midnight. The funeral was still going and he became alarmed the moment everyone in the room began to fade into grey silhouettes, leaving you the only figure with a face.
From far away, Choi Han saw your father standing by the exit door of the funeral home, popping out like a sore thumb between all the grey, dull silhouettes. What kind of memory was this? Were you hyper-aware of your father even though he was standing so far away?
"[Name], I need to talk to you."
Choi Han's eyes widened as he saw a distorted figure standing in front of you and your sister. They were a black silhouette of a man, their silhouette distorting with growing sharp edges standing out every second. Their voice was distorted and Choi Han struggled to find the connection as to why this particular memory of yours had everyone fading out like a shadow while your father and you stayed the same, this silhouette was so distorted that Choi Han's guards were up despite how he couldn't interact with the memories here.
"But, Dad--" says your younger sister and it clicked to Choi Han that this distorted figure was your stepfather.
"I need her for something important. Only she could do it."
Even his voice sounded so displeasing like nails dragged against a board. You stood up to follow your stepfather into another room, and Choi Han saw your father beginning to exit the funeral home when he saw you walk away with your stepfather. Choi Han followed your father, bewildered that the memory was still showing up so clearly when it was clear you weren't supposed to know where your father went.
Choi Han followed after your father and he realized midway that this wasn't your memories but your father's. How can that be? Choi Han had assumed that he could see your memories because the vines that were penetrating your heart were connected to the one penetrating his - he could easily dismiss it as something magical of the sort as its explanation. But your father? Why was his memories here?
He followed after your father's journey by car, sitting in the backseat as the man drove alone in silence, leaving you behind at the funeral home. He drove and drove and drove, for hours on end until he eventually ran out of gas.
Choi Han stepped out of the car to follow your father as he ditched the car and began walking. There was a sense of eeriness at how quiet the man was, walking with dried tears on his face. Your father walked in a straight line for hours before he came across a forest.
Your father stopped by a lake, and so Choi Han did as well. From across the lake, Choi Han saw someone he was relieved and surprised to see.
"Cale-nim?" Choi Han called out.
Cale saw him and his eyes widened. "Choi Han? You're here, too?"
The two didn't have too much time to converse when your father walked into the lake without any hesitation. Both of them watched with wide eyes as the man attempted his life by drowning before the water let out a bright, purplish light and your father was gone in the blink of an eye.
"[Name]!"
Both Cale and Choi Han heard Rosalyn's shrill cry and the scenery changed immediately back to the halls of the funeral home, the space warping and distorting. They could see Rosalyn walking past the dull grey silhouettes and the two approached the rattled magician.
"Miss Rosalyn!" Cale called out.
"[Name], she's in there!" Rosalyn began to say, hurried and in panic as she ran to a door. "We need to get her out!"
Suddenly, the incoherent murmurs of the crowd within the area went silent and the three of them could hear your voice and your stepfather's crystal clear in the middle of all the warping of space and distortion.
"I'm... grateful you were there throughout everything."
"It's okay. I knew you loved my mother deeply."
"..."
"What are you doing...?"
"Has anyone told you that you're a very beautiful woman?"
"..."
"You look so much like her."
"Please, don't..."
"It's a compliment. Did I make you uncomfortable?"
"I-I think it's time I get back to my father."
"No, no. There's no need to rush. Your father already left earlier because I told him you'll be staying the night with your sisters."
"I never agreed to that. Please, let me go home."
"No, not until we do this."
"N- No, please--!"
A deafening sound filled their ears and bright light filled the room, blinding the three of them. Rosalyn's face was red with anger and sadness, eyes glossy with tears as she had come to a realization of what had happened behind that closed door.
When their vision came to, they were all staring up at a bright blue sky, laying on the mossy cobblestones, the holes on their chests all wrinkled up close. They all sat up immediately, seeing how the island was a complete disaster due to Cale's lightning bolt. The trees were on fire, embers falling like snow. The majestic tree that had been the manifestation of the ancient God's powers were struck, the trunk split down right in the middle, showing a dark hole filled with vines and sticks, pulsing and glowing with golden energy.
The ancient god, a giant lump of vines, sticks, and divinity was moving across the land like an octopus, your body on top of it as they carry you to the split trunk.
Cale recalled back the vision of your father drowning himself before being completely swallowed by the light. "I think I know who that beast is."

Trash of the counts family idea where the white star convinced that Cale Henituse is a reincarnator (and expounding on his own identity issues) gets one of his spies in Roan to gift Cale a 'mirror of truth' that like, reveals your true self/ shows the truest reflection of how you perceive yourself on the inside. So, for instance, Choi Han looks like an older man in its reflection as he *knows* he's older than he appears and Beacrox actually looks a little younger than he is because of the fact he still feels like a child when compared to his father.
The thinking is that Cale Henituse will unveil the gift and the reflection everyone sees will be of a completely different man instantly outing him and then his biggest thorn in his side will be, in his plan, cast aside and lose support as his allies realise the man is not who they think he is.
What actually happens; is that it *is* Cale Henituse in the mirror, since Cale automatically accepted that that is who he is now when he first woke up and by this point its where he's stopped thinking of himself as 'cale, not Kim Rok Soo,' but even if it wasn't - this body *is* Kim Rok Soo now just as much as it is Cale Henituse so why would it be anyone else in the reflection?? The only caveat.
All of the scars from his life as Kim Rok Soo appear in the mirror. Cale may not have them anymore, but they are part of *him*. So to an outside perspective, the commander is exactly as he expresses himself to be, but that he... thinks he's horrifically scarred. Every inch of skin, the face, the neck, *the hands* of the man in the mirror is covered by scars that tell of torture and dismay. And now that people look at the reflection properly; the reflection looks more like *Deruth* than the real Cale.
His hair is more ginger than it is blood red - a more realistic blend of Deruth's brown and Jour's red.- and his eyes are the same colour as Deruth's as well. It wasn't immediately recognised since Cale's eyes already look similar but it's more obvious now that people are looking. And the reflection looks like that because Cale doesn't know what Jour looks like, he only knows Deruth and to him Cale Henituse is Deruth's child so it's reflected in the mirror.
From an outside perspective it suddenly looks like Cale Henituse's internal image of himself is one that is severely damaged but is also one that looks more like he could call himself his father's son.

Tcf part 2 chapter 284
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
OH MY GOD!!! So God of Chaos has a similar power as the Dominating Aura and Cale is experiencing that full on!! Oh God of Chaos is way scarier and Way powerful than any god we've met so far
Also this part:
Tumblr media
So Dominating Aura comes from God of Chaos? Didn't it come from Choi Jung Gun??
And by "A child with power born from the pool of death" is he referring to White Star's curse that also affected Kim Rok Soo??

No one can convince me that Choi Jung Soo do not do the most stupid, childish and basic dick jokes ever and that his main target isn't Kim Rok Soo
I just know it in my veins, he's a man with a child humor, he would wake KRS up at 4am just to risk being kicked out of the house for the hahas

A lot of people try to make Kim Rok Soo's past as miserable as possible, but I don't think that's true. Not only does he not have the full curse of the White Star, but I feel that it would be more miserable of a life if a reaching hand was always just out of reach.
So, this is my proposal: krs is a child that did not slip through the system. He was helped by it, but every attempt to help failed due to White Star's diluted curse. That is much more tragic in my opinion.

You know, I think i figured out why I like Deruth. So, I've never really seen Deruth spoken about but I've seen fanfic interpretations and it almost seems like the fandom itself doesn't quite know what to make of Deruth. Some people treat Deruth from the Birth of a Hero and Deruth from LCF/TCF as separate characters and other interpretations, the one I'm more in favour of is that both versions of Deruth cared about their son, they just didn't know how to show it or fix their relationship. Cale himself acknowledges that Deruth is awkward and doesn't quite know how to speak to Cale. I personally see Deuth as someone who made mistakes following the death of Cale's mother and wanted to fix it, but couldn't figure out how, so didn't do anything, which was a mistake in and of itself. Cale starts acting like trash and Deruth again doesn't know how to handle this or fix this, since he blames himself, so, again, he doesn't fix it. And the longer it goes without him doing something, the worse the strain on their relationship gets until it ends up how we see at the first breakfast, Deruth awkwardly trying to speak to his son but unable to, as he doesn't know what to say. So what changes? Cale. Kim Rok Soo becomes Cale, realises how awkward things are and takes the first step, as he compliments breakfast, something he doesn't think about and just does to stop things being awkward but it gives Deruth an opening. It's just a short conversation, but what a difference it makes to the probably usual silent and awkward breakfasts before where no one quite knew what to say or do with Cale, and Cale, if he shows up, either says nothing or speaks only to complain about the food and then leaves.
However, this actually isn't the main thing I wanted to note. So, I've discussed the previous, Deruth's point of view. And I'm not gonna sit here and say he was good father to the original Cale or was the father he needed. He's not winning father of the year awards for original Cale, I can agree with that. Are there worse fathers? Yes, Marquis Stan immediately comes to mind. But it would be hard to say Deruth was a good father to original Cale. Now let's consider the third element here, KRS!Cale Henituse, a man mentally older than his new body, a man who only had caring parents for a few years and it's uncear how much he remembers of them, a man who was abused and mistreated, pitied, a man who's can't care about people, because if he does, something bad will happen to him. I think, in a weird way, Deruth was almost the parent Kim Rok Soo needed at the time. Let me try to explain.
So, imagine for a second a world where the Henituse family dynamics are different, healthier, happier. Maybe Deruth and Cale fixed their relationship, maybe Cale is closer with his step family. They'd be caring, nice, what a family should be. Imagine Kim Rok Soo, an orphan who was abused and had hardened himself to not care about anyone, would this not be more odd to him? Going from keeping everyone at arms length and not letting anyone in to having to show his care for parents and step siblings, something he's never experienced before. I honestly think Kim Rok Soo would've liked this less because he wouldn't know what to do when shown obvious care by a family when he's never head that relationship before. I don't know, I feel like this is more Kim Rok Soo's speed, Clearly care but still allowing that independence and freedom. Care when he gets hurt but awkward and distant. Deruth is not the father Cale needs but in an odd way, he is the father Kim Rok Soo needs at this point. Does that mean you have to like him or see him as a good father? No, it's not up to the child to fix ther relationship with their parent. But it gives less whiplash for Kim Rok Soo than a close, physically affectionate family would. Or maybe I just like him, like that he does care even if he struggles, like that he's trying even if it doesn't always seem like that. again, you don't have to like him or think he's a good parent. This is just my opinion, my interpretation. I don't know man. I've been thinking about this story all day.
On that note, and I could be wrong as someone who is not aroace and has limited knowledge on aroace, but I feel like Cale is on the aroace spectrum. we're in his thoughts for two years and not once does he consider getting in a romantic relationship. In his dream life there's nothing to do with getting married or having kids. Does this necessarily make him asexual? No there are people of all sexualities who aren't bothered about marriage or kids, but they still tend to want some sort of romantic or sexual relationship and Kim Rok Soo/Cale Henituse seems to have zero interest in this. He has kids, he has family, he has friends. At no point does he express any kind of want for a romantic or sexual partner. Could this be because he has bigger problems? Yes. Could this be because of his past and the curse? Yes. Is he the only character this applies to? No, most of the characters show no interest in romance. Because ultimately this book is not about romance, not even slightly. It's found family, it's friendship, it's fantasy but there is no romance and, yet, for most of the characters I wouldn't rule out the possibility of them having some form of romantic or sexual character. Even with Cale I'm not saying he can/will never have those relationships. But even when he acknowledges someone as being attractive, it doesn't seem sexual or anything. He says it like it's a fact, then moves on. This isn't to say I disagree with shipping Cale. I myself don't mind a little Alcale or Choi Han/Cale. Do I personally think they are romantic or sexual? Not necessarily. You can interpret things that way, but i personally like things as they are, no romantic ships but really close friendships, to me platonic love and platonic relationships are just as, if not more, important than romantic love. And, tbf, even in content where there are romantic relationships, those romantic relationships are never the most interesting part. I don't really watch or read things, like non-fanfiction things, where romance is the main point or main storyline. I used to, but as I've gotten older (I say pretending to be wise old woman at the age of 21), I've come to appreciate friendships non-romantic relationships more and it's the main reason I enjoy shows, for relationship dynamics of all kinds.
I think that's why I'm so, like, chill with shipping and fanfiction with like proships. Now, i don't personally read things like incest or age gap fanfiction. It's not for me, no thanks. But i do tend to ship different things for different reasons. So, if I say I ship something, it's not necessarily because I think they'd have a cute, happy, healthy, loving relationship. Sometimes it's quite the opposite. Sometimes it's because i know it would be toxic and unhealthy and dark and it may even be one-sided, but my god, is it interesting. Some ships i ship purely for the angst, for the way they destroy and ruin each other. Other times I go for fluffier, happier ships. I generally think, as long as you know wrong from right in real life, ship what you want, write and read the fanfiction you want to read, and avoid the fics and ships you don't want. Don't like, don't read does apply. Commenting and interacting just gives it more attention. We all know what we like and don't like. At the end of the day you can't tell someone's morals from the fictional media they interact with. Sometimes you don't want something happy and fluffy and safe. You want something angsty and dark and hard to read. That doesn't make anyone a bad person. Sorry, this has little to do with this post. I'm just tired of people saying "if you like reading about X, you're a bad person" and putting labels on people for reading and writing fictional content that doesn't hurt any real, living person
