The Disability Library

I love books, I love literature, and I love this blog, but it's only been recently that I've really been given the option to explore disabled literature, and I hate that. When I was a kid, all I wanted was to be able to read about characters like me, and now as an adult, all I want is to be able to read a book that takes us seriously.

And so, friends, Romans, countrymen, I present, a special disability and chronic illness booklist, compiled by myself and through the contributions of wonderful members from this site!

As always, if there are any at all that you want me to add, please just say. I'm always looking for more!

Hi Cats Tumblr People,

So I heard you like pics.

Please bear with me (AND TEACH ME) how Tumblr works/if I'm doing it wrong! I'm literally the "How do you do, fellow young people?" meme. Our Etsy is linked (unless I messed that up!) Right now it's bare (LOT of work and VERY old photos in the banner) but we'll be posting some cossies soon that are ready to retire. Some of our prices sadly will have to rise (we undercharge honestly for the amount of time put into them... we just LOVE making them). Anyway...

These are our original designs. We have taken inspiration from different productions, from the US tour to Gothenburg to Australia to Japan, less UK because it gets the most attention and we like COLOR! but this is all us. Our goal is to a) have characters be recognizable and b) make swing unitards in palates that could pass as at least 3 characters for emergency. When our rentals go out, swing unitards go with them, and ultimately it's the director who decides what makes the final cut (so a less yellow Demeter for example--but we LOVE that one).

If we ever do a production of Cats with Chaz, you'll notice one in Red, White, and some Black (but mostly Red and White, with fan ears, that is a design David created and is Chaz's FAVORITE design of all time. Any time he does a show, if we're hired, that costume goes. Usually Electra, but any ensemble/swing kitty and can cover for Sillabub or in a pinch Bombalurina. Yuka wore it at Interlakes before she did Victoria on the last US Tour! You might notice an Admetus in tans and GREEN undertones--that was my design he loved. We also did the purple twins (which was vetoed and I said, "Okay" then did it anyway because I knew he'd love it, which he did!), and REBA Gumbie Tap Suit was completely mine (everyone thought I was out of my MIND when I started making it! Even David! Then the shoulder pads came, and the belt, and tail, and BEDAZZLING!!! SO MANY RHINESTONES!!!!) Our Misto coat lights up but we still have a lot to learn about arduino since we'd eventually like to make it blink to music. The Misto coat is also created to fit a multitude of sizes, basically the theatre using their department for alterations since we make use of stretch fabric. I've known Bronson for almost as long as Chaz (he even designed my author website!!!) so when I saw him cast, I showed him his costume (a much, much browner/redder Gus than most see--I was serious about liking color) and let him choose between two coats. He said he wanted pants and we went, "NO! PANTLESS PRODUCTION!" because we thought he was joking! We didn't realize... HE REALLY WANTED PANTS!!!! SORRY BRONSON! So shout out to Wichita for making him pants! LOL!

There is a HUGE joke about Tumble thirsting for Tugger more than the girls so you'll notice that with the Tugger ABOUUUOUOUOUOUOUOUUUUUUUUUT THAT.

Hope that's of interest! And no, I'm not procrastinating on edits when my agent deadline is Sunday. Haha... ha... ha... ha... ha... Sera, if you're reading this I PROMISE I'M WORKING OKAY??? I DIDN'T KNOW WE GOT ON BROADWAYWORLD!!!

We also saw some comments about casting in general and some confusion/questions about different dancers doing different parts (Alonzo vs Plato). Would anyone be interested in learning more about the casting process in general and things that directors/choreographers need to take into consideration? Please note, I will not discuss ANY performers we work with. Ever. All are extraordinary and these are tough calls that aren't easy to make and based on other factors, including the ensemble at large, and sometimes huge changes are made.

JD's Squad

A few notes on the beginning of John's squad for Soldier On - this is not a finished list; just what I have for now. The Current Cast is John Dory, Delta Dawn, Dickory, Chaz, Pete (Retired), Tresillo (new) but this is just beginning thoughts.

Suggestions are welcome!

John spends any leave that he has to leave base with one of his squad - usually Delta or Dickory - although in the later years, he does do some camping. In the last few years leading up to the explosion and incident, Delta's sister became a single mother. John has stayed there to help out sometimes.

If he is not with one of his squad, he will usually find a camping spot to stay in while doing the odd and end jobs for locals to pass the time and a cheap price.

For a while, John just stayed on base when his squad was on leave and didn't take it when offered but eventually Delta and Dickory forced him to go.

John lives very simply with very, very few possessions so he ends up just saving a fair bit of money. He's been in the military for probably over ten years now. There have been a few guys that have rotated through their squad. Pete retired and was eventually replaced with Tresillo (they don't share rank though, it's just the numbers).

Chaz is talented but a bit egotistical and can be difficult to work with. Most people do not like working with him. He definitely rubs John the wrong way and although John can usually tolerate him, they have fought before. John has broken Chaz's nose. Which drove him nuts because the guy is a bit vain.

No one expected John and Dickory to get along, but they are actually pretty close. Dickory is the shortest of the group but he's strong and crafty. And not to be underestimated. His parents were immigrants and so he carries a fairly heavy accent. He's got a younger brother, Hickory, who he is close with. Hickory wants to follow in his brother's footsteps but Dickory thinks his talents lie elsewhere.

Growly Pete, as he was known as, didn't talk much but was a great shot and an even better survivalist. John took to it with his outdoorsy nature and wasn't very offput by Pete's quiet nature, so Pete took the time to teach him. He retired a few years before the incident.

Tresillo is a fairly new soldier who was given a choice - jail or the military - and he won't ever tell you he made the wrong one. He doesn't have much in the way of family and was kind of unruly at first but he's got more discipline now and he likes his squad a lot. Doesn't love being treated like a kid but he kind of gets used to the younger brother treatment. Great dancer. Taught John and Dickory Spanish.

Even before Pete left, John and Delta kind of got the dad and mom tag, being the responsible ones. JD took care of his little brothers for years and was kind of used to it and Delta is a natural leader. The mom and dad jokes are mostly kept quiet and behind their backs.

In the incident, John was the one with by far the most severe injuries. Delta wasn't there at all and when she does hear the news, she does feel a little guilt for not being there. It's dumb and John would tell her that, but still.

Tresillo straight up blames himself. Period.

Everyone involved is extremely tight-lipped about what happened and they won't talk about it. Sometimes a little with one another but that is about it.

John becomes especially mindful and protective of youngsters. This may include both minors and young adults. This mostly comes from protecting Tresillo during the incident, who to John, is seen as barely an adult. (This is also a bit of a nod/projection to how my horse trusted and protected kids when we got her before she ever trusted adults with her own issues.)

Tresillo probably won't stay longer in the military than he has to. The incident might even give him an out. It's not that he doesn't like the military, but the incident does freak him out and after what happens to John... yeah. Part of it is some guilt, part of it is that he doesn't get along with a lot of other people and he kind of doesn't want to. John and their squad became the people he got along with, trusted, etc.

It takes a while for Tresillo to visit John after what happens but when he does, he might stick around. I don't know yet. He and Branch do become friends.

The first time Bruce sees John with Clampers, for a second he thinks John knocked some girl up. And John is just...she's like... three years old. It's becomes kind of a joke.

John may or may not punch Chaz again after leaving the military.

Floyd finds out about John entirely by accident and it's awkward and weird. He does get a little upset that no one told him before this. (He mostly communicates by letters and hardly uses a phone and is constantly traveling very busy with his growing career).

Delta ends up finishing her tour but something happens that leaves her having to take care of her niece, Claudia (aka Clampers).

I am a firm believer the bounty hunter trolls are all about presentation and drama. NO ONE IS MAKING THEM BREAK INTO SONG AND DANCE WHILE HUNTING THEIR PREY BUT THEY DO..... and they also pose for magazine covers

yea!! i still need to draw the rest of em but my current idea is like. the yodelers, chaz, wani and tresillo were a group of gamblers who were kinda like robin hoods of luxgoode in that theyd be able to swindle a lot of the really big rich casinos and give back to the people, but theyd charge their own prices for that service. so like if you or someone you love went a little too crazy at blackjack night and you dont think you had the skill to get your money back, you could hire them as like, a guaranteed return just with a cut of the money gone thanks to you needing to pay them

BUT one day thanks to getting lucky (no selling out this time, PAY ATTENTION CREEK) chaz managed to get his hands on his own casino and now he's one of the four biggest in the city which means he's kinda the very thing the bounty hunters are up against now OOPS!

the BH cant really decide if theyre trying to stay mad at him or not because yeah he did kinda flip sides but also he's still the same chaz he's always been and he uses his status in the casino sphere/in his own casino to get them out of a bind if theyre ever in trouble so its like. the weirdest frenemies situation ever LOL. they hang out at the white tiger a lot but their interactions usually go like this

The only son of Hickory and Chaz, and one of the most successful performers of modern day. Suave (no he's not don't let him fool you he's a disaster), a bit of an attention hog, but caring.

Miles primarily works as a performer for various clubs across Lonesome Flats and Trollstopia. Every since he squeaked out his first note at the tender age of one, Miles couldn't stop singing. He spent his childhood honing his voice like a weapon, and when he was 20, he took to the stage. He's been a big hit ever since.

Behind the glitz and glamor, Miles is admittedly a bit shy with strangers and self conscious of his image. One of the prices of fame, unfortunately. Despite this, he has a massive support system to help him overcome his fears (mainly Brozone at the behest of Poppy).

Genre wise, Miles is all electro swing. He grew up listening primarily to jazz, swing, yodeling and country, but one day, a group of trolls with some saxophones and mixboards strolled in, and Miles was blown away. He owns several original electro swing records and he's very proud of that.

He currently resides in Lonesome Flats alongside his family, but can be found frequently in Trollstopia.

Fun Facts!

- Miles as a massive crush on Fern. Like someone help this man he's in deep and he's just making a fool of himself. Miles can't really dance, but he practices in private to try and impress Fern. He hasn't worked up the courage to show him yet, though

- Miles' best friend is Honeysuckle. They knew each other when they were super little, remaining close when she moved away. When she came back to Lonesome Flats, Miles was first on board to help her set her cafe up.

- Miles does have the ability to float around like his father does, but he can't control it well. It tends to act up while he's sleeping, and he'll often wake up pressed against the ceiling. He has to tie an ankle to the bed to keep this from happening.

- Miles can play the banjo like no ones buisness, and this embarrasses him to no end. He hopes one day he'll forget, and every few years he'll pick up the banjo to see if his skills have suffered. They have not

If there's a few words I can use best to describe Miles, it's a disaster gay. He and Honeysuckle bothm. They're the disaster gays, while their crushes, Rosebud and Fern, are the distinguishes gays. Godspeed them they're gonna need it.

But yeah!! I'll be doing a lot more digital work from now on, it's super fun! The style and bruches might change as I experiment a bit more~
