idk there's something that slaps about a character hating their name. is their name riddled with hundreds of traumas, of nightmares, enough that just a dream can make them wake up in a cold sweat? of claws seared into their skin, of chains that suffocate, to the point where being called for whatever reason makes their hands immediately shake? what if they have a nickname, and that nickname is all they know? where someone calls out to them, real name in all, and they've forgotten that that's their name. where their identity is just this horrific name, and that's all they've known.

and there's something that slaps MORE about them reclaiming their name. that person that calls them by name can knock some sense into them, and it becomes a nice thing. their name is called when others are running to them, smile bright and hand in a wave. its said when they're given a gift. its said when their love interest laughs at them making a bad joke and lightly punching their arm. where that love interest only sees them with this name, and it becomes something they love to hear, because it sounds so amazing coming out of their love's mouth. it sounds like a song, a sanctuary, a home.

and they're allowed to look to the people who use their name for hate, and get to look them in the eye with confidence they never had before, enough that it scares the demons who gave them their name. not even god can smite them now, because names have power, and their power is terrifying.

Tallis/Talyn/Taira: Green eyes and long, auburn hair. Your childhood friend—Or, at least, companion. They aren't the biggest fan of the Order. Perhaps that will have greater implications than simple complaints as the situation grows more dire.

August: Blonde, sharp, and severe, he's the one who brought you into the fold. A zealot, some might call him. The Order doesn't name His Grace as a God, but August certainly seems to think that He is.

El: Long, thick black hair, skin tanned and freckled. She's a mechanic of the Order. Talented, there's no doubt about it, despite her occasional airheadedness. Sometimes, you can't help but feel that she's hiding something.

Jasper: Gender selectable. Muscled either way, with dark skin and deep brown eyes. Loud and arrogant—and they have what it takes to back it up. As the first new arrival to the Commune in… all of history, they could pose as an omen or a savior. Either way, they might shatter everything that you thought you knew.

Icarus: The Head of the Order. Everything else about them is shrouded in mystery.

Copious mentions of blood/flesh(Nonhuman, not caused by violence.)

DISCLAIMER: I'm a student and a slow writer in general, so updates might not be very frequent. Nevertheless, I'll try to see this story through.

another sander sides au: actors!!

roman and remus would be genuine twins irl, but get this they're british. british people who do very good american accents. they're very close despite their characters being distant and hating one another.

roman is more shy irl then his character. but he's very similar in aesthetic tastes. probably cause he's British but he can be pretty proper. he also doesn't know jack shit about American history so sometimes he won't get certain references the cast makes.

remus is more modest, but he fs would make some inappropriate jokes. compilations being made titled "remus being like sanders!Remus for 8 minutes and 17 seconds". still the gremlin out of the two twins.

logan would also be british maybe, and i think he'd be more goofy in real life rather than smart and strict. he's actually very chill compared to others.

patton would be the most sarcastic as well as knowledgeable. people would joke that him and logan switch personalities irl. he's actually a bit more a dad in real life than on screen. think kind of pedro pascal.

thomas is just thomas, he'd be the most like his character out of them all.

janus would be soo sassy and that's why janus in the series would get sassier as times went on rather than dark and edgy, because he would deliver lines in a certain way and the audience would eat it up. he'd be the second nicest person on set. he'd talk about how he actually hates snakes in real life, and gets freaked out by his scaly makeup most the time.

virgil would be the biggest sweetheart. like hed be super sweet. every time his character says something remotely mean he's always apologizing the second the scene cuts. a big contrast to his edgy, emo persona.

Joan and Talyn are the directors / producers!!!

they would be known as one of the most genuine casts, and even once the series eventually ends they would all still be super close and hang out a lot.

I would actually switch Wilson to Hades and Nathan to Zeus OR Poseidon just because they're absolute DICKS. I think I drew my Joey as a greek god at some point (Dolos, god of Lies) and surprisingly he's the only one you didn't mention LOL

I'd make Doc Asclepius (God of Medicine). He used to be a human or rather a demi-god because he's the son of Apollo and a mortal woman Koronis (or Coronis), princess of Tricca in Thessaly. When he died, he was resurrected as a God! Also he brought a little bit too many people from the dead lol.

Then I'd make Talyn Thanatos (God/Personification of Death) because I'm quirky like that

and Valeria can be Psyche (the Goddess of the Soul, more known as Eros' wife. She's portrayed with butterfly wings hehe uvu)

I imagine Nelly to "Pomegranate Lips" by Derivakat a lot, so YES, SHE'S PERSEPHONE

Also Nightmare Joey is Erebus (God/Personification of Darkness), that's it.

UPD: I JUST NOTICED THAT YOU ONLY MENTIONED THAT HADES IS THE GOD OF "EVIL" WHEN HE IS ABSOLUTELY NOT!

God, I really don't like when people associate him with evil. Mostly because people associate him with the Devil, coz they both rule "The Underworld". BUT HADES IS SO MUCH MORE! He welcomes and homes the dead, they're all equal in his kingdom. He's also the only one of the 3 ruling gods (him, zeus and poseidon) who isn't an absolute asshole to his wife. He was always passive and never portrayed negatively (except abduction of Persephone, but that was Zeus' idea + being angry at people trying to resurrect the dead or cheat death ((Orpheus almost got away with it because Persephone is nice)).

TL;DR MY BOY HADES IS GOOD AND IS NOT AND WAS NEVER MENTIONED TO BE THE GOD OF EVIL.

UPD2: AND ZEUS ISN'T THE GOD OF WRATH/ANGER. He may be a dick, but it was never mentioned that he's a god of Wrath and/or Anger. That's Ares, also known as the God of War. Please, check your sources!

Joan gave the characters their spark it's sad to see it didn't carry on after they left the team, I think Thomas can write characters like Logan, Roman and Patton ok in theory but the dark sides? I'm scared to see their future characterization it's already gone downhill for the dark sides (Remus and Virgil)

I think part of the reason for this is because Remus and Virgil are both written with specific mental health issues in mind that Thomas doesn’t have much knowledge on himself. A lot of the input for the anxiety and intrusive thoughts came from Joan and Talyn.

Okay, I have a 50/50 standpoint on the recent Asides. It has its little charms, interesting little moments and just a short quick thing that kept me at least satisfied enough.

But, I have my slight issues with it. One issue I'll talk about first here is how Janus looks. Now the outfit is cute and works well but...where are the rest of his scales? I get it, the idea of more scales being other places has been a fanon thing for a while but Thomas has admitted that we have really cool ideas(and it was drawn at some points in the calendar arts, not every idea has to be used but still). But, why not go for it and attempt to make the scale go further? Because, having JUST the face kinda takes the "snake" out of the "snake-man". Some have complained that the makeup has dropped in quality and I do notice it. Sure, it could be a change in makeup by color and/or brand. Could be the lighting that effects it too. Maybe..MAYBE in the finale it will look better? I'll probably make a post further pointing out differences without being too pretention about it.

I understand that the makeup for the extension would be difficult but I know for a fact that it's usually Quil or Rene who does the makeup, originally Talyn. I think they could've added some scales to the shoulder or hand/forearm or at the bare minimum green splotches. Again, it's hard to tell what's canon or not anymore in the Asides episodes(I've just accepted anything Sides related as potential canon at this point). Maybe it'll be retconned at some point and he will have scales other places throughout him eventually?

And I know you'll say "Why would he do something that detailed for something short?" Well...he could've just worn a different outfit that covered the exposed skin instead. But, maybe he didn't have plans to extended the scales more because they tried on the neck once but it wasn't working how they wanted which lead to the "scale patches" headcanon...but the scales could still work on the arm and hand somehow. I'm just thinking that not extending them takes away what makes Janus intriguing and mysterious...his implied snake DNA. Is it laziness? Is it time constraint? Is it difficulty? Will something more snake like about him make up for it in the future? I don't know but I hope so. There is so many twisted and cool ideas that can be done with Janus, both characteristically and biologically and I don't think they should be wasted.

There's a crack head theory going around that "what if it is makeup and Janus is just doing an act?" Yeah..I kiiiiinda get it but, it's been implied several times that he's half snake physically and biologically that it's too late to retcon it like that or at all. Especially because like I said previously, it's a waste of a very interesting character with very cool skills that he could possess, being this genetically altered. Plus, all the fanfics would be worthless about him having snake like traits. If you get rid of the snake parts and behaviors of Janus, you practically kill what made him so eye catching and shocking in the first place and make him a less interesting and compelling character. Janus would no longer be Janus, ya get me? This could all just be me and nitpicking but..if ya going to have genetically altered character like this, snake wise no less, go big or go home.

Farscape rewatch - The Ugly Truth, 2x17

The Ugly Truth is an ep I enjoy a lot without having a ton to say about it (proceeds to say a ton about it.)

I find it entertaining how even without lying, the Moyans’ versions of what happen differ in subtle ways - Aeryn’s is most matter of fact and probably the closest to factual accuracy - between her past life of having to regularly give reports to superiors and her generally not being great at make believe - look at what a terrible actress she is when John wants her to put on a small act:

But also hers is the most believable and hardest to pick apart because once again, as military grunt she probably has more experience of telling most acceptable version within factual confines to her superiors.

In Zhaan’s, everyone is copacetic and wants to talk out their differences. In D’Argo’s he’s the center of the action with John and Aeryn as his backup.

And significantly, all Moyans present John as on their side. Moya does not have a leader but as Rygel complained about in Out of Their Minds, they do listen to Crichton the way they don’t do to the rest of themselves.

Other things - it strikes me again just how both hardened and broken John is. You can still feel waves of rage and loathing roll off him when he meets Crais again. Because his trauma has changed him on a permanent basis but also because he’s had no chance to heal even a little - they are on the run, he’s slowly going mad/controlled, terrible things keep happening. Forget having time and space to heal; new trauma keeps getting dumped on top.

And this Crichton has no desire to talk it out with the Plakovians (who he keeps calling Plakovoids and it’s such a small in character show of cussedness in John) or any hope or expectation it will help. Underneath it all, there is a terrifying dose of not giving a fuck nihilism if I die then I die in him. He is utterly unsurprised their trip and his life have gone to hell yet again, just sitting there grimly and angrily enduring, in expectation of something terrible.

The mystery of who fired on the ship is solved in the end, much too late to do any good, and I love that there is no good answer and also that Stark was innocent and was executed for nothing (and the irony of the worst arms dealers in the Galaxy supposedly so so so concerned with justice is as evident as the fact that they aren’t really looking for the truth, they are just engaging in confirmation bias - they are not sifting the narratives for the truth, they are sifting for them to confirm what they believe has happened.)

I said in The Locket, I love Stark and this ep confirms it.

On rewatch, I know he manages to come back but he does not know this here and is in fact thinking there is almost no chance.

And he still confessed to the action he did not commit and that will result in his execution, when it’s the only way to save the rest.

In John X Aeryn news, love the way the ep shows them subtly and insistently as a unit.

And that last scene where he asks if she only concealed the truth because of Talyn (and not Crais) and it’s jealousy and uncertainty on his part and it’s clear to anyone with eyes that is what this for her but to him it’s too important and he’s too broken and too irrational about Crais not to ask.

And they look at each other in knowledge that what happened with Stark and Zhaan could happen to either of them and they live in a world of constant loss (and this is such a small preview of what is coming for them - ooof!)

PS when John says “cross my heart hope to die stick a needle in my eye” and I remember the next episode is Clockwork Nebari. Those writers were freaking insanely brilliant omg!
