The wizard Gem attempts to set things right.
Story summary
The fog of the Evermoore grants the witch Shelby a strange shard that seems to call out to her.
A mysterious rift in the middle of his base leads Grian to call for exploration.
The wizard Gem returns home with her brother, to see the broken world they’d left behind and to find any survivors among the ruins.
Everything is connected, and nothing is what it seems.
(I'll be taking a break from this story for two weeks, will be back in November)

The Doctrine of God, Part 1: 1 Cor. 13 and the Problem of Jealousy
I propose that when we build our Doctrine of God, we begin here, as "God is Love" (1 John 4.8). This would suggest that Paul's definition of Love here in 1 Corinthians can serve as a core hermeneutic or interpretative principle to guide us when approaching both theological systematics and the Scriptural texts themselves. Since we are given a culturally embodied understanding of deity in both the Hebrew and Christian bibles, representing dozens of authors spanning thousands of years, there are dramatic inconsistencies in the sacred texts regarding the depiction of God, running the gamut from Ancient Near East despot, genocidal conqueror, caring protector, loving father, incomprehensible ground of reality, and more.
The most common solution to these diverse images of God within traditional theology, especially as offered by evangelicalism, is to simply assume they are all normative and cobble together a system that tries to make sense of all the images, no matter how contradictory. I suggest this is no solution to the problem at all and serves merely to paper over the textual tensions of the varying accounts on a superficial level while giving it the aura of respectability with the religious institution's stamp of approval.
I propose that passages like 1 Cor. 13 can serve as a theological control that will allow us to make intelligible choices between images of God at variance with one another. I suggest the definition of Love offered us here is Christocentric in focus--Jesus is the most obvious person to whom the description of Love in 1 Cor. 13 maps most effortlessly (making this connection will be a task for another time), although Jesus ultimately was imitating the character of the Father and the Spirit, and so Jesus's ethic is the Trinitarian reality.
To give one concrete example of how this Love acts as a control: Jealousy is a celebrated aspect of God's character in evangelicalism (see, for example, J. I. Packer, Knowing God, ch. 17), and many passages state outright that God is a Jealous God, including in the Decalogue's second commandment: "I, the LORD your God, am a jealous God" (Ex. 20.5; see also Ex. 34.14; Num. 25.11; Deut. 4.24; 6.15; 29.20; 32.16, 21; Josh. 24.19; 1 Kings 14.22; Ezek. 8.3-5; 16.38, 42; 23.25; 36.5-7; 38.19; 39.25; Joel 2.18; Nahum 1.2; Zeph. 1.18, 3.8; Zech. 1.14, 8.2; Psa. 78.58; 79.5, etc).
Yet the problems with this are many. Ethically speaking, jealousy is related to possessiveness and the need to control others around you. A jealous partner is not a healthy partner, because jealousy displays a fundamental lack of trust in the beloved and a need to control the beloved. To ascribe such a position to God seems problematic at best. What are we to do? Without some kind of criteria to evaluate this common understanding of God's nature, we are stuck with a highly inappropriate characteristic of a deity supposedly defined by Love.
This is where the value of 1 Cor. 13 comes into play as a hermeneutical control. It states quite unequivocally, "Love is not jealous" (13.4). Likewise, all coercion is excluded: "Love does not insist on it's own way," (13.5) and "Love is patient," (13.4), not exhibiting the impatient grasping of a jealous person.
It is important to note that this is not the only time Paul condemns jealousy either. It finds its way into his regular denouncements of the attitudes of the world. In Romans 13, a key anchor text for "Love of Neighbor," Paul writes, "let us behave properly ... not in strife or jealousy" (Rom. 13.13).
In fact, the jealous conflicts of the Corinthian church are a major thematic lens for the entire letter, and entirely negative at that: "You are still fleshly ... since there is strife and jealousy among you" (1 Cor. 3.3).
This problem was ongoing, as his second epistle to the Corinthians makes clear: "I am afraid that perhaps when I come ... perhaps there will be strife, jealousy, angry tempers, selfishness, slanders, gossip, arrogance, disturbances...." (2 Cor. 12.20).
In fact, this list of vices is essentially the inverse of the qualities of Love which Paul speaks of in 1 Cor. 13. And jealousy is often lumped together with these vices: "idolatry, witchcraft, hostilities, strife, jealousy, outbursts of anger, selfish ambition, dissensions, factions" (Gal. 5.20). James is much fiercer on the subject: "where jealousy and selfish ambition exist, there is disorder and every evil thing" (James 3.16).
Clearly this is incompatible with a God defined as true and pure Love. Yet even Paul falls short here: "For I am jealous for you with a godly jealousy; for I betrothed you to one husband, to present you as a pure virgin to Christ" (2. Cor. 11.2). Evangelicals would protest that this demonstrates that there IS such a thing as godly jealousy, allowing them to import the jealous characteristic back into the nature of God, and thereby slip retribution back into our theology.
But this is simply flattening out a tension by pretending it isn't there. Paul's declaration that "Love is not jealous" is our control precisely because it couched no exceptions. He does not say, "Love is not jealous, except for when love gets jealous in a godly way, somehow." To permit any jealousy is to open the door to all the vices, as James clearly insisted (James 5.20).
Given that this verse in 2 Cor. 11 is a pastoral appeal, rather than a core theological teaching like the definition of Love in 1 Cor. 13, and given Paul's frequently being so overwhelmed with emotion that his words pour out in a torrential jumble, the use of "jealousy" in 2 Cor. 11.2 is unlikely to be meant to be taken at face value, especially in a tangled torturous paradoxical tour through Paul's "boasting" and "not-boasting" like this chapter, where he is clearly trying to speak by accommodation. He is flailing around for language, and has to resort to less than ideal idioms: "What I am saying, I am not saying as the Lord would, but as in foolishness, in this confidence of boasting. Since many boast according to the flesh, I will boast also" (2 Cor. 11.17-18). Thus to elevate this verse to the level of a controlling text is unlikely and unwarranted.
This quick tour through the tensions between Love and jealousy is incomplete but for now it has demonstrated the proof of concept: by letting Love be our ethical anchor point, we find that it helps us navigate interpretive choices in what we might call a Loveward direction.
In part two I will dig into the commentaries on 1 Cor. 13 and start going through the definition of Love we are given there in more detail.

Wait, Damien has the lowest amount of views in a Mark project? THIS IS TRAGIC.
EVERYONE GO WATCH DAMIEN IT RULES in both storytelling, some cool creepy art, and honestly the Actor Damien convo is so iconic
Also we’re thinking of posting our thoughts about how Space so far and YN in it parallel Damien’s journey in DAMIEN as well
Yeah its super tragic. WKM Ch 1: 8.3 m WKM Ch 2: 3.7 m WKM Ch 3: 3.3 m WKM Ch 4: 3.8 Wilford Mother Loving Warfstache: 5.2 m Mark Playing Lixian's Game Version of Damien: 5.6 m The OG DAMIEN: 2.9 m
Which is just!!! TRAGIC! Because I think Mark has such a soft spot in his heart for Damien (as do we all) so to know that so many less people have watched Damien, a real labor of love and one of my favorite things Mark's collabed with a studio with, it's just very sad. People should really watch it!! It's what my entire comic is really based on (that and some other things Mark has said too haha). BUT YEAH. GO WATCH DAMIEN. DONT FORGET ABOUT IT PLEASE

I (Scorpio f) did two years of volunteer service after graduating college (like Americorps, but run by a badass order of nuns who’ve been threatened with excommunication from the C*tholic Ch*rch).
My first year I lived in a house of Aries (2) and Scorpio (me + 2, but one left the program to handle family) women.
Conversely, my last two years of college I lived in a house with 2 dating Scorpios (m+f) and 1 Leo (f).
Which house do you think burned to the ground?
I am gonna guess the second one but honestly could see that happening with either group lmao
8.3/10 and 8.69/10
(also that's wild i also did like americorps in a group run by badass nuns for a year lmao)

Proxima Centauri. Crater | CH 2 | Crescent | RE: Body Discovery
A beam of light requires about 8.3 minutes to travel from the Sun to the Earth.
Crescent knows this well.
And yet, it takes longer for him to attempt to work up the courage to look down into the well. He knows what is down there; no one tries to hide what is -- who is down there. Perhaps ten minutes at least. After Entropy takes her time screaming into the fog-less air. After he thinks about the flash of light Copperfield once conjured in front of him.
There is a cold, cold expression on his face. But outer space has always been known to be terribly cold.
As Crescent eventually forces himself to peer down into the well, his hands grip onto the edge. This is the last time he will get to see Copperfield in the flesh, so he tries to suck it up.
Something about the blood.... the corpse... the toy gun... the shocked expression frozen on their face... all together in one tragic scene... makes it hard to look away.
The Sun, though about 91.5 miles away everyday, is quite close to the Earth compared to another distant star. God, why does he know so many fucking facts about the Sun? Why did they still have that fucking gun? Why was he not looking away?
With jerky movement, he suddenly straightens up and walks away from the well. He brings his hands to his face, breathing sharply in between his fingers. If he had to look at that corpse one more time... Who knows what would happen.
