got may have made the adults feel better about liking fantasy, but lotr got into the kids' heads when they (we) were just young and impressionable enough to be absolutely transported and emotionally rewritten by don't you leave him, samwise gamgee and my brother, my captain, my king and and rohan will answer

lotr was rewriting entire generations' brain chemistry long before asoiaf and so obviously it's not fair to compare any post-lotr fantasy novel to it, and each book series was trying to do different things within their own spheres and so that also is not a fair comparison, but in terms of the cultural impact of the adaptations that came out within a decade of each other, saying that it was game of thrones that made fantasy mainstream is baffling

Been rewatching a whole YouTube playlist about DOOM, and it's got me thinking about Doomguy as a hero

Because despite being the executor of possibly the most brutal violence and carnage ever put on a TV screen...Doomguy's force is never directed at a fellow human being. People have described the Slayer's one and only goal, his purpose, as "to exterminate each and every demon in existence", but I think I'd view it more as "his purpose is to protect innocent lives, period".

Still probably the greatest piece of characterization in these games is the very beginning of DOOM 2016, the leadup to the title screen. Doomguy enters that elevator from the intro facility to the start of the game proper, and Hayden starts telling us about how "oh, they only had the best of intentions when they started mining Hell for energy. Sure, it's all gone bad now, but it was worth the risk, I assure you!". As Samuel tries to convince us that this was all for the greater good, he only had people's best interests at heart, Doomguy simply looks at the corpse of a security guard on the floor of the elevator (who definitely didn't sign up to the possibility of being disemboweled by hellspawn), looks up and is visibly shaking with fury as he presses his fists together, and then smashes the speaker Hayden's talking through, transitioning us to the game's title card.

Absolutely perfection. Tells you everything you need to know about Doomguy's motivations and resolve without a single word. Though if he had said anything, it'd probably just be quoting Ripley from Aliens: "Bad call? THESE PEOPLE ARE DEAD! Do you realize what you've done here?".

Everyone in these games is constantly trying to tell Doomguy that sacrifices have to be made for the greater good, and he utterly refuses to entertain that notion when human lives are concerned. Not to mention that, while the games play with the metatextual conceit that Doomguy doesn't give a shit about the lore or narrative or bigger picture, he's just there to slaughter evil (the same way most Doom players and indeed Doom co-creator John Carmack view story as merely window dressing for gameplay)...if you headcanon that Doomguy actually IS reading all the logs and lore that he's picking up as collectibles, you know he's aware that all of the higher-up decision makers at the UAC are straight-up demon worshippers attempting to bring about the apocalypse, and thus nothing they say can be trusted.

As far as Doomguy is concerned, there's no compromise when it comes to innocent lives. If one innocent person has to die in order to uphold the established system, the system is to be violent ripped down and smashed into the dirt, never to be rebuilt. That's how he feels about Hayden's UAC, that's how he feels about Khan Maykr's plans in Eternal. That's WHY his fight is eternal, because he'll fight anyone, even those he once fought alongside, if they choose to say, to end this post on a joke, "some of you may die, but that is a risk I'm willing to take".

So, I made this playlist for Cedric on Spotify and I came here to talk about it. And believe me- I have A LOT to say. No one asked, but I can't keep this to myself.

I'm autistic, so I think that explains for itself (i'm hyperfocused). I made this playlist 100% based on the character trying to keep it very close to canon, I tried to capture the Disney feeling, the vibes, his personality, through the lyrics and instrumentals of the songs.

Rewatching Sofia The First, I felt a lot of nostalgia of childhood and old Disney princess movies, so I really wanted to capture that feeling, because otherwise the playlist wouldn't make sense, it wouldn't be Cedric. Furthermore, Cedric is a sorcerer and visually speaking I see that he fits slightly into the whimsigoth aesthetic, which would be themes related to the moon and stars, magic, witchcraft. That alone suits him, but added to that, I feel like he has this similar vibe to Merlin from Sword In The Stone, for example. So I think with Cedric, the stars and magic aesthetic suits him well, but not in a 90s girls way like whimsical/whimsigoth does. In this case, it would be something more magical, more nostalgic, like a wizard character straight out of a book, which directly goes back to Disney.

For the Disney villain vibe (something that would be a middle ground between Gargamel (I know he's not from Disney) and Merlin), I have his songs like Cedric The Great and My Evil Dreams, but also Poor Unfortunate Souls (Ursula's theme), Higitus Figitus (Merlin's theme), How Could I Refuse (Preminger's theme). I also have some instrumental songs, such as Let Me Tell You A Story from Russell Shaw and La Valse De Renard, which capture the feeling of that clumsy and nervous sorcerer, who's always moody and busy with everything at once, planning. You know what I'm talking about, do not pretend you don't.

And not just as a villain, but as a Disney character on his own- I feel like Sofia The First does a great job of paying homage to the old films and capturing that same feeling, so I see STF as not just a cartoon 'produced' by Disney (like The Owl House for example) but like one of those princess movies, Cinderella, Sleeping Beauty. So I added stuff that could give me this feeling and still stay in character for him, like Disney songs, for example:

You know, not all the songs in that list are exactly from Disney, but that doesn't means they don't give the same feeling. And not only that- they feel nostalgic (and emotional, if I may say)

But I don't want to divide these songs in boxes, saying stuff like "this one is for the disney theme" "this one has lyrics that match his character" "this one fits his aesthetic"- some songs are there for more than just one reason, and I like to see it as a set, after all they are all on the same playlist. These songs fit the Disney Character vibes, but some also fit the magic aesthetic stuff, so it's all mixed. I prefer to see it that way

For this magical vibe, I have one of my favorite singers, Aurora Aksnes. She has an album called The Gods We Can Touch and just half of it has this vibe, not just in the looks of the album but also in the instrumentals, melodies and lyrics, so I couldn't help but include some of her songs. And I find it ironic that most of her songs that I chose have lyrics that suit him.

Like the case of the song "Potion For Love", which narrates a situation of romantic frustration, and both the lyrics and the title remind me of Cedric's situation with Sascha in the episode Enchanted Feast, and what I understand from that title is that there is no solution to love, there is no magic potion that can solve this problem. I love being a nerd

Other songs of hers that also suit him a lot are the case of Midas Touch, which I already mentioned here on Tumblr, where she narrates the situation of a reckless king in love (King Midas) who is desperate for Aurora's love, as if he depended on it, but she can't love him back because he "turns everything he touches to stone", and she can't accept this role, even though he's begging her to do so (it reminds us a lot of a situation, doesn't it?) (it could be either a y/n x Cedric situation or the events in The Day Of The Sorcerers, but in that case I prefer to ignore the romantic phrases in the song and turn it into something platonic, otherwise it will be really weird).

You Keep Me Crawling has lyrics open to interpretation, as it can talk about both religion and an abusive relationship, but it also fits the case of a wicked dictator, which the narrator still has hopes of them having mercy and deep down still being a good person, just like the case of Cedric and Sofia in The Day Of The Sorcerers.

Conflict Of The Mind talks about family issues/family fights, that despite everything, they still love eachother. Aurora wrote this song for her sister and it reminds me of Cedric and Cordelia.

A Dangerous Thing talks about a two sided person, but that Aurora knew from the first moment that this person was dangerous, and it's just getting worse and worse, to the point she reminds herself that there is no love in the world anyway, her good heart always forgets this. WHO SHOUTED SOFIA AFTER READING THIS?

To Be Loved, just read some of the lyrics: "I tell myself I have to build defenses / 'Cause once you are in love, you are defenseless / Everything was easy when it meant less [...] / Nobody knows me, nobody knows me / I'm never lonely / Until someone holds me / And let's go, just to show me / How it's like to be loved [...] / Cause nobody shows me / Nobody shows me / How is like to be loved"

The Innocent, I won't explain myself, I'll just put a part of the lyrics here: "Danger in the boy that would lose control / When everyone thought he had a heart of gold / I remember how he used to play / He'd let me win if I let him stay / He left without a single trace / I don't know why he said goodbye... to love / You would never let me in to your heart"

Exist For Love is for... fanfic purposes. And because it's the opposite song of Potion For Love. And in the MV she gets out of a shell like a mermaid/Aphrodite. Cedric x Mermaid reader, why not if he was a sea monster once (and this song is about being all lovey dovey with someone, it fits him when he was in love with Sascha, poor thing). And this album has those magical vibes, I already spoke about it before

The other Aurora's songs are there just because of the vibes. BECASE I WANT THEM TO BE *jk*

There's also Million Dollar Man by Lana Del Rey where she's in love by that villain guy and she sings "I don't know how you convince them, and get them, babe / I don't know what you do, it's unbelievable / And I don't know how you get over, get over / Someone as dangerous, tainted and flawed as you" and you know. It's a Lana Del Rey song. He is one of the man written by LDR I just know that he is. Salvatore is there too 👀

AND QUEEN OF DISASTED BECAUSE SHE SINGS "you're the king and baby i'm the queen of disaster"

Some directions so you can understand and use the playlist a little better:

The songs that suit him because of the lyrics are the ones at the top (a large part of the playlist), even though there are still a few that were chosen just for the vibes mixed in there. From "What Is A Youth" onwards, there are the songs that I listen to when writing and drawing things related to him, these are the instrumental songs and Disney songs, and further down are the podcasts that are uploaded by users in the app, because the owners of these songs didn't wanted to publish them on the platform.

If you want songs that match the situations he experienced, listen to the top of the playlist. If you want to daydream and feel like you're in Enchancia, or better said, in a Cedric x Y/N fanfic, I mean, in a Disney movie, listen to "What Is a Youth" and below. Of course, you don't need to listen to everything in order, and you can mix it up, like I usually do. A Disney vibes song, a magical vibes song, a song that suits him, just like a cake recipe. i'm rewatching one heartstopper episode right now for the sole purpose of finding where they used Hot & Heavy by Lucy Dacus because i've been OBSESSED with that song lately and i've seen it on the heartstopper playlist and found out which episode it was it so yeah. Lots of words to get to my point. I'm having thoughts about Isaacs character arc and how you can really tell that he feels excluded around all the couples but can't really put a finger on why yet and even though his friends very much try to include him there still seems to be a disconnect there. all just from the editing and acting without outright saying it (90% of the time) it's GREAT!! So I was grabbed hold of by my music hyperfixation today and it turned out, today's the day I learn more about the history of American music as made by African Americans. Since, you know, they did most of it.

I've known for a long time that American music has deep roots in Black experiences and culture, but it was always such a behemoth of genres and artists that I didn't know what exactly I liked or where to start.

So, today, I figured I'd do what I do best and start with all of it at once.

Okay, not exactly. I'm doing it in chronological order. But in order to accurately order the shitload of playlists and folders I was making on Spotify, I needed to know what order those genres were discovered in.

I am not in school for this, I'm not educated on this and, as a white person, I don't feel like I have the nuance, experience, or understanding to properly write a massive post about this topic, but I did want to share a few articles I've read today, because they were extremely well-written (as far as I can tell), informative, and moving.

Reasons to Read These

African Americans have been the driving force in just about every music genre that's come out of America. If you don't already know that, or want to know more, you should read these.

Do you find music and musical evolution fascinating? You should read these.

Are you queer? Disco is part of queer culture as well and the overlap between Black and queer culture in that time period leans heavily on disco, which is fascinating and part of your own history. You should read these.

If you care about racial tensions in the US, the article that talks about Earth, Wind, & Fire goes into the ways disco impacted racial tensions in the US in the late 70s. It's good knowledge to have under your belt. You should read these.

Bonus shout out to The Get Down on Netflix. I watched this a year or two ago and was obsessed with it for a few days until the fixation passed. This is part of the driving inspiration for me looking into the history of disco and hip-hop so extensively today, because the vibes in the show were just... enrapturing. And, looking at the Wikipedia page for it to double check how it was received by people who know more than me, it does seem to have good reception. I especially like that they involved historical pioneers in its creation (DJ Grandmaster Flash, who invented modern use of turntables for hip-hop, DJ Kool Herc, and Kurtis Blow, all in their 60s and part of the original hip-hop scene in the Bronx). So if you want to watch something that will get you hyped about disco and hip-hop, I can just about promise you that'll do it. Needless to say, I will be rewatching it very soon.

Hii hannah! I'm bout three months late because i had exams going on, well, I still have exams going on but I decided to not procrastinate and just write this.

Thank you so so much for writing my tenth doctor and rory requests. you don't know how much it means that you took time out of your life to write my requests. when I first started watching Doctor who, barely a season in, i stumbled upon your blog and read your dying girl story, i didn't even know anything properly bout doctor's character or other companions but your fic though! it captured doctor's character so well! It was in May I read it and started watching the show and I now always connect that time with doctor who and you and your fics haha. 

 I got so obsessed that I made this dying girl reader universe in my head with headcanons and stuff and started associating songs to the reader and fic ; i know they are like kinda popular cliche songs but snowman by sia and never be the same by camila cabelo really reminds me of the amy and rorys wedding scene with reader and doctor dancing (was it real or I made that up in my head?) and memory of reader practising mind reading thing and seeing memories of Doctor and she's like who's this beautiful person in his memories and doctor is like that's you love <3 moonlight serenade, spring waltz, we'll meet again, moon river, across the universe are some other songs I associate with them,, you didn't even ask for playlist but here I'm sharing it just because lmao

I can't tell you guys how important it is that I tricked my partner into watching an episode of puppet history one morning.

It was 100% deception. I was rewatching old episodes while I worked and he wandered out, unable to sleep in on his weekend, and asked what I was watching.

Immediately, I hatched not a beefy little puppet, but a cunning plan.

"It's a history show" I said casually. "My ghost boys do it. It's actually really interesting and there's trivia questions."

Ever the sucker for both history (especially funny or weird history) and trivia, he started to watch the screen - apprehensively, you know, because of the puppetry. But I knew in that moment I had him.

And I knew, I couldn't risk the spoilers.

"I can start it over" I offered, backing out of the ep I was on and going all the way back to the top of the Puppet History playlist. Since the early eps weren't too obvious with the lore, I put it on as a 'background noise' show - knowing he'd drift in for the trivia and would eventually start noticing the weird shit happening behind the scenes.

Eventually he started noticing the genie thing, and would roll his eyes. "What's with the genie stuff??" He'd eventually ask me. I'd shrug and act like I didn't know at first, but then eventually I'd be like 'keep an eye out for genie easter eggs I guess and maybe there's something to figure out'. He came to accept the genie lore, and by the time the episode promising no more genie lore came, he was begrudgingly invested in it - but already fully accepting of the professor as a part of our weekly show rituals. Guys, we're on the new season now. The one where the professor is inexplicably back. He's trying to figure it out guys. He's decided after the defenestration episode that the professor is actually either Mephistopheles or just The Devil in general and thinks Ryan made a deal with him so he could finally win every game -- guys, the point is, when the history and the trivia are gone, he is glued to the TV like nothing else as we get the snippets of hints about what's happening, and I know I have him snared, and I know he's going to cry at the finale and we all know that's the ultimate goal of all this, and I'm so proud that he knows the professor ain't right (originally he asked what I think a lot of us probably thought which was 'did he get reborn and then live all that time until present day?') I'm so excited he's going to love it y'all

I wanted to get this out before I post tonight's chapter!

I really want to tell you guys what inspired me to start writing "Strangers In the Night", and what my current inspirations are!

I first got the story idea while listening to "Amsterdam" by Gregory Alan Isakov (great song, please listen to it if you can because it is just gorgeous). I had an idea to create a one-shot of Mori and Fukuzawa during WW1 exploring homosexuality in the confines of war and the hyper-masculinity, homophobia, and censorship that it caused. The original idea was to keep it at around 3k words, and have Mori and Fukuzawa just be in an abandoned house somewhere, but I felt like I needed more world building, which is why I had to plan an entire fic around that one idea.

Originally I planned to make the short story a lot softer, as in, imagine Fukuzawa and Mori getting it on but in a realistic way. Laughter, awkward talks because neither of them know what they're doing but they're so desperate and excited to have a first taste, first time being so close with another man and the feelings that must cause etc.

However, this story is turning out to be a bit more angstier than I imagined :))

I've been rewatching my favorite WW2 series "Charité: At War" (2019), and I'm pulling huge amounts of inspo from there. It's based on a true stories, and it's set in a real german hospital, Charité during WW2. I think it does a great job at showing multiple different perspectives during the war, and also a fantastic job at portraying gayness, but in a semi-healthy, equal partners, soft and raw emotions kind of way. Of course I have to alter the ideas I get to fit Mori and Fukuzawa, and also WW1, but it's a great way to kind of see how I would make them act in moments of being close to each other.

The story is also largely inspired by "Strangers In the Night" by Vera Lynn. I decided to follow in George DeValier's footsteps when it comes to war AU's, and since he's one of my favorite authors, I'm honoring him by continuing the legacy of the "Veraverse" which is an AU created by him where his fanfictions are based on Vera's songs. I put my own twist on it by setting my fic in WW1 instead of WW2.

Light's Theme (No Light playlist is complete without his theme song, this song gives me so much emotions, I can feel the transition from Light to Kira in it somehow ;-;)

The World Is Mine (Another Kira wins song, I imagine Kira standing on top of a tall building while thinking the world is his 😂)

I love imagining how a Kira wins world would be like, so I loved doing this one, and now I miss DN, Light always manages to bring me back to it (I know I bully him but he's still my fave), perhaps it's time for my yearly DN rewatch 🤷‍♀️😂

The Eclipse: Things You Might Not Have Noticed

I just love to rewatch this series and I tend to lurk in the background to see if I can notice something new. In other ways, this post can be called 'Kudos to Production Team' as well xD

1. Ayan was not the one who saw his uncle jumping off the cliff

This is something revealed once you watch the whole series, however I told my friends that was definitely the case since the first scene, and 100% established this after they showed us the difference between Ayan remembering talking to his uncle and having nightmares.

This is a nightmare, a fantasy. The jarring editing adds a bit of mystery but it also lets us know right from the beginning that it's all a glitch and is unreal. You never see Ayan reacting to his uncle Dika ending his life in the same frame, this is all just a compilation of one and another situation.

Considering his personality, I also doubt if it happened in real life, he'd just stand there and shout, not even rushing forward or collapsing or anything, which might tell us that he was never able to actually reach out to his uncle.

And compare Aye's look with this frame:

When Dika was alive, Aye had a different haircut and a typical hoodie. Meanwhile, in the nightmares Ayan always has his hair up, eclipse hoodie and... he also has a necklace(!). Which he only obtained once his uncle killed himself and they gave the family his belongings.

What solidified my suspicion is when Ayan was actively thinking about talking with his uncle, Dika had different clothes – but Aye was in his current beach attire, meaning the outfit definitely defines the timeline.

In conclusion, Aye just used to come often to the edge of the cliff to grief, helplessly wonder what's happened to his dear uncle and endlessly imagine how he would've reacted if he ever witnessed Dika's last moments of life.

2. Akk's room is full of wonders xD (Yok, is that you?)

Even though I know it's 99% work of the production crew and generic room decoration, I can't help but check out all the things in Akk's room xD (like what do you need this spork-weird-spoon-collection picture on the wall for, Mr.Prefect President?))

First of all, look at this drawing mannequin and two pencils! While it could simply be for Suppalo's art assignments, I'd like to think it's a nice little detail for the fandom's headcanon that Akk could grow up into artistic Yok in university =)

He's got math and physics reminders on his wall, which is expected because he studies in STEM major class, but there are other... interesting things in his room. Like, DROP THE PLAYLIST FOR THE BOTTLE? What does it listen to right now? I'm curious xD Such a funny spot to hang your earphones (is that a money bank? If so, could be a nice little hint for Akk's tight relationship with money)

By the way, I really loved the prefect gang all hanging out in one room, and at first, I wondered if they all lived together (since Kan is even playing guitar and Wat is all up in Akk's bed in a cozy manner). But nope, it seems like it's solely Akk's room.

Everybody just loves to hang out in his place (most likely, because best Suppalo boy has the biggest and nicest one?). Akk does keep guitar in his room though, even though only Kan plays it :3 Anyway, I love that it's a tradition for Akk and his friends (and then lover) to casually exist in the same room in evenings all the time.

OKAY so back when i was thinking a lot about tuc (and also listening to my pete playlist on the way to therapy bc it was the perfect length of time to get through from my home to the office) i somehow came up with the idea of like, what if pete did side with robert moses because, like. idk i think the idea of a vox phantasma gone bad is really interesting to me, and also like, if i was in pete's shoes imo siding with robert moses — particularly after he's played that recording of kingston — isn't an unreasonable choice to make. i was also listening to the descent by bastille on loop (which ALSO has the bit from the bastille pete/rowan song in it) when i wrote this. which is not relevant but is fun trivia.

anyway this is all i ever wrote of it mostly bc i then forgot about it and now i do not remember the intricacies of the plot of tuc i so i probably won't finish it until i get around to rewatching tuc

“that's not real. it can't be,” pete says, his voice low and uncertain. he doesn't want it to be real, but. how can he know? he knows kingston — and that's part of the problem. kingston brown would do anything for new york city, and pete can't help but wonder if that includes killing him. 

robert moses shrugs. “your call, kid.”

robert is obviously evil. obviously he is, okay? pete knows perfectly well that he looks like the villian in a cartoon movie who wants to put down the puppy protagonists for, like, wanting to start a dog hotel or whatever the shit protagonists in children's movies are doing these days. pete has enough common sense to know that, okay?

it's just that... sometimes common sense and the need to survive don't intersect. 

“what do you want from me, robert?”

“from you?” robert leans back, manspreading, taking a cigar and a lighter from an inside pocket of his jacket and lighting it, taking a long drag. “want one?” he asks, when he notices pete eyeing it, and hands one over and lights it after pete nods. “kid, i just want you to know you got a shit deal. you didn't ask to be a vox. it's not like you're being paid for this, you know?”

“i'm not?” well, shit. pete had hoped that this would at least come with a paycheck. he is technically homeless, after all, which is something pete has been avoiding thinking about because he doesn't like thinking about things that stress him out, and the fact that he's almost certainly homeless stresses him out more than almost anything at this moment, including the fucking unsleeping city or whatever the fuck it's called. 

robert takes another long drag of his cigar. “i told you, kid, it's all bullshit. but, look, i can help you.” he pauses, looks directly at pete. “i don't know what your so called friends have been telling you about me, but i am a businessman, okay? and you are too. and we've got to look out for each other.” pete wouldn't exactly describe himself as a businessman, but he's not about to argue. if robert moses wants to call him a businessman instead of a drug dealer, he's not going to argue with it.

The Tigger Movie

This movie, this fucking movie, because of this movie and Winnie Pooh in general I love the found family trope. That need of Tigger to find his family, all the others jumping in to help him and then trying to cheer him up, and then him realizing that his family has been there right in front of him all this time, his relationships with Roo and Rabbit mean everything to me, the acting and animation YOU COULD FEEL TIGGER'S SORROW, Tigger is my favourite character and this movie fucked me up emotionally and I love it so much.

Lilo and Stitch

OHANA MEANS FAMILY. FAMILY MEANS NOBODY GETS LEFT BEHIND OR FORGOTTEN. It has aliens, complex but loving family dynamics (with found famiy mixed into it), great fucking music (I knew all the dances) and it's beautiful. I've watched every single bit of media related to Lilo and Stitch, every movie and the tv series, and I love it all, but the first movie is so very special to me. The movie kinda grew up with me in a way, because when I was younger I related a lot with Lilo, but then I started relating so much with Nani, mostly because I'm the oldest sibling. Also Jumba and Pleakley are married I will die on this hill.

The Iron Giant

He wanted to be like Superman and he WAS he really was. I haven't seen this movie in a while now, I should rewatch it, but the friendship the kid and the robot had is something beautiful, and just all the humanity and care and love he experienced, he showed all of that way more than most of the humans from that movie. IT'S ART.

Ice Age

The first one specifically, the second one is really cool too but the others are kinda meh to me. Anyway I had this movie on vhs and I watched it so so many times, I know most of the movie by heart. And hey we have a beautiful found damily dynamic yet again!!! How Manny, Sid and Diego's friendship and companionship evolves as the movie progresses is awesome, Sid is fucking hilarious, Manny is a mood, I had a bit of a crush on Diego I'll be honest, and you really feel for all of them. And Scrat is Scrat, an absolute delight to witness.

The Spongebob movie (the first one ever created)

Just like with Ice Age, I know basically all the dialogue all the songs, I would watch this again and again with my little brother (this time on cd) it never gets old man. No thoughts only SpongeBob.

Over the Hedge

I have the soundtrack for this movie in my playlist, enough said. THIS MOVIE IS EVERYTHING, AND AGAIN FOUND FUCKING FAMILY. I'm realising with this list that I like that trope more than I thought, idk what that says about me. Hammy is my favourite guy, he's my little guy he can do no wrong whatsoever. And Stella the skunk is the character ever we love her in this house.

Shrek (the whole fucking saga)

There's no need for explanation here. Might be one of the best animated movie saga out there let's be honest here. AGAIN I have seen these movies so many times I know everything about them but I still enjoy the absolute fuck out of them.

Aardman Animations

Chicken Run, Wallace & Gromit: The Curse of the Were-Rabbit, Flushed Away, The Pirates! In an Adventure with Scientists!...AMAZING FILMS ALL OF THEM. I know not ALL of them are stop motion/claymation, some are computer animated, but because of these movies (and Laika's of course) my love for this animation medium began, and I could not be more thankful for that.

Monster House

My love for horror increased 100% after this movie, it's funny, it's spooky, it gets sad as hell, it has a great plot twist???? What more do you need.

Laika

Coraline and Kubo and the Two Strings are my favourites from Laika, but all their other movies are gems as well. Coraline, I don't know if I can completely express why I like it, it's a classic and it's so ingrained in myself after so many years, I can't not love it. Kubo and the Two Strings is a movie I watched much recently, last year I think, and I love it so much, the way it's animated is absolutely stunning it's a beautiful piece of art (much like all of Laika's work) and the story and characters are so lovely. Like I said before, seeing Laika's animations, seeing how much work and love is put into these films made me love stop motion so much and inspired me to become an animator.

Meet the Robinsons

THIS MOVIE MAKES ME SOB UNCONTROLLABLY. That part when Lewis sees his bio mom leave him at the orphanage???? The ending???? The message???? FUCK AHHHH. I'm a mess every time I watch this movie. Everything about it is, lovely oh so lovely, the characters we meet, the story, how we put the pieces of the puzzle together as the story goes, Goob kills me man (also he's literally me for real) I just, this movie means a lot to me. "Around here, however, we don't look backwards for very long. We keep moving forward, opening up new doors and doing new things… and curiosity keeps leading us down new paths." Reading that and hearing the ending song absolutely DESTROYS ME.

Type Fives seem to be characterized as independent, thoughtful people in their own heads and thoughts. That tracks with what I know of ADHD and your quiet temperament when you become tired, and because of this, I like Huxley with you.

I feel like people can take Fives, like Honey, and mistake their stoic or introverted nature for misanthropy or arrogance; Huxley would know better. He strikes me as a very chill, flexible ambivert, nature thriving in clamor or silence, you know? He’d be a supportive, steady presence by your side- your rock, if you will, which all neurodivergent people could use (I say from experience).

Being with Huxley would be just so perfect, as perfect as a relationship could realistically be. He’s so thoughtful, considerate, and empathetic; he’d be a great person to have around when suffering from dysphoria, always willing to listen and knowing what he can do to help. Since he’s also so chill and so nice and so genuinely interested, he’d love to hear you talk about boyfriend asmr or whatever you might be hyperfixated on. He’d be one of those people who sincerely listens to infodump and becomes an expert on those subjects just to engage with you and what you love.

I’m a sucker for Huxley and songs with growing/nature-centric word choices; what can I say? Huxley strikes me as a chill, acoustic, indie kind of guy who loves some solid, stellar vocals, so this Ben Platt song works well with that. I also love that this is a really realistically romantic song that has a sentiment I could see Huxley expressing, you know? It has this imagery of two people like vines or trees in a relationship, growing together, becoming intertwined, supporting each other over them.

Runner-ups:

Lasko is a runner-up because I’m a Lasko kinnie, I’m autistic so Lasko is autistic, and there’s no cuter ship than the ADHD/Autistic ship, you know? They work! Ollie is a runner up for more legitimate reasons in that he has a lot of the same supportive, sweet traits as Huxley- just not as much.

16. The queer media they'd obsess over

Scott: While not technically queer media, I can totally see Scott watching things like Top Gun and M*A*S*H and just being like.... these things are queer bc i am queer and i say they are queer and i'm sorry were we watching the same screen?

Virgil: Sense8!!! I haven't rewatched this since it first came out so the details are shaky but I think he'd enjoy it :) The kind of thing that's totally overt in being queer and doesn't shy away from it at all but also has a mind bending scifi-action plot and examines queerness and worldview and politics and all that jazz on a more philosophical level while also holding up this ideal of people can love so deeply and in so many ways and yeah :D

17. A queer artist they'd listen to

Scott: Listen to me. L I S T E N to me. Scott is a secret MIKA stan and it's only secret because he's a little insecure about liking pop music because he's 16 and imperfect and one day Gordon discovers MIKA and basically becomes a MIKA evangelist and it annoys Scott SO MUCH because this is HIS thing and YES actually Gordon he DOES know this song and eventually he snaps and it all comes out and Virgil's like ??? none of us would have cared about you liking pop? and Scott's just all *mumble mumble* embarrassed lol bc self-conscious teenager ahaha anyway, everyone should listen to MIKA <3

Virgil: I love the idea of him listening to queer jazz musicians!! I saw @firstonthescene suggest this for Scott (and I agree!) but if feels very right for Virgil as well :D Of course, I also think Virgil listens to all kinds of music, from all kinds of people playing all kinds of genres from all over the world! It fits him well imo <3 I don't know much about jazz outside of like Count Basie and Louis Armstrong and that sort of thing although I do enjoy it! I will say though that although there have always been queer people involved in jazz, it doesn't seem to be the genre that really made a movement out of it, not like other genres have in more recent history, and I think to suggest it was some safe haven for queer musicians would be fairly revisionist. There'd have been pockets that were safe and more open, and other spaces where being closeted would have been the only option and how could you ever tell who was closeted vs who was straight and pinning down identities of people now dead for the sake of queerness doesn't seem to be Virgil's style to me. However, I do think that he'd make an effort to diversify his playlists in as many ways as he could because it gives him an opportunity to explore new ideas and perspectives and I think he'd really enjoy that. Anyway all this to say I don't have a real answer lol. I think he'd enjoy everything from Mozart to Elton John and everything on the spectrum between them and beyond :P
