Caelan Conrad: Drop the T - The Deadly Consequences of Gay Respectability Politics
This is a genuinely essential watch, I think. I have often lamented that younger generations, who are otherwise more open and more likely to identify with and embrace queer identities, simply don't get educated in queer history, and the many generations of elders who went before us and paved the way to the world and the understanding that we have.
That education simply isn't easily available, it gets cleansed out of school systems by white supremacy and conservatism, and it gets suppressed on the internet by algorithms that are programmed to understand queerness as "advertiser unfriendly."
So thank Freja, Frigg and Frej that people like Caelan Conrad and their many collaborators are doing the heavy work of making up some of the difference. This video focuses on assimilationist- and respectability politics in the queer community, the false wedge that is being driven between gay people and their trans and queer siblings, and the long history of reactionary forces using exactly that tactic to try and stifle the drive for queer liberation.
Hear your history, so you may know who you are.

Has anyone else recommended Caelan Conrad as a queer YouTuber? They just dropped a new video, so now is a good time to check them out, especially as this latest video's opening concerns misinformation in the queer community.
Edit: further in the video now and it also explains the AIDS impact on queer assimilation movements, better than Jim Jam's offensively inaccurate line about "boring gays."

I just finish this three part video series about what TERFs say when they think that nobody “on the outside” is looking.
It’s over five hours long if you don’t speed the videos up so I’ll just highlight the most important parts- It turns out that TERFs are not only transphobic, but also racist, homophobic, sexist and ableist and encourages child abuse! Who could’ve seen that coming besides maybe everybody who isn’t a bigot, especially considering that Posie Parker was part of one of the groups.
“Carol Marinara” was able to get into these groups by pretending to be a mother with a son who’s saying that they’re non-binary just “looking for help” and they would say things like “isolate him” by taking them out of school and drilling that “trans is bad” into them everyday until “he finally gets it.” And if they kill themselves, “don’t worry. That’s not your fault.”
They also said that a lesbian wasn’t raped by her girlfriend unless “she’s actually a man, because rape requires a penis” and throws the r-word around. A lot.
And when somebody who’s named themselves Marinara for this came out to say that they weren’t one of them all along they started freaking out and one of them said “we talk in these groups because we can’t say this stuff anywhere else!”
I’d highly recommend the series... If you have five hours to spare And can stomach blatant homophobia, transphobia, racism, ableism, sexism, mentions of child abuse, and mentions of rape..
There’s a lot of trigger warnings but they go over them before those parts of the video.

I haven't listened to any of The Witch Trials of JK Rowling and don't plan to, but I've been following some of the news/video essays related to it because I try to keep tabs on the transphobes.
This essay is just heartbreaking. The author writes:
A 17-year-old should not have to carry the weight of Abigail Shrier’s Irreversible Damage, a book he references by name, on his shoulders.
And it's true. No 17-year-old should be in this position (and not just because Irreversible Damage is a vicious rant of a book that insults, in rough order, the humanity of transmasculine people, transfeminine people, asexuals, lesbians, Black and brown people, women, teenagers, people with eating disorders, psychologists, and teachers' unions). It's a failure and a shame on us that young people have to fight this hard for their most fundamental rights.
I'm trying to do my part to bring about a world where all teenagers will be able to focus exclusively on school, interpersonal drama, and passionate arguments about which fictional characters should or should not kiss. We're very far from there right now. But thank you, Noah. And I'm so sorry.
(While I'm here, I also have to recommend Caelan Conrad's video "The ALLEGED Witch Trials of JK Rowling." Caelan is great. Check out their series going undercover in gender critical FB groups.)

To be wrapped in a cylinder of tentacles, like a protective burrow, courtesy of your octo-girlfriend...
- Do you wanna come out?
- (Sniff) No...
-Ok...(smiles sadly from the hole in the cylinder) I'm right there if you need me...(She pulls you up and lies your cocoon on her chest. Through the tentacled wall, you can hear her heartbeat) Hear?
You sniff and shudders but huddles. Closer. You sigh...
- Can you humm to me?
-Sure...But first...Take a deep breath...(Inhales) Don't think about anything...Like a baby in a womb...
You soon feel the weight of an arm atop the wall...And soon, her humming vibrates...Before you know it, you curl up closer and sighs in relief and a settling bliss...As if she readed your mind, her hand reaches through the wall...and caresses your back...Soon you are out like a light...

Caelan Conrad asked in their video about Queer and Trans Joy, what other people do to balance joy and rage in the fight for our rights. Well, Caelan, this is it. I write the type of sweet scenarios I want to see in lesbian and queer medias. To brighten others's day and show that queerness is not always loud and flashy, but can be as sweet as the romance the straights may take for granted.
Here is their video:

Today's Video Essay: The ALLEGED Witch Trials of J.K. Rowling (What The Megan Phelps Podcast Won't Tell You) by Caelan Conrad.
Another fantastic and lengthy piece from YouTuber Caelan Conrad, about J.K. Rowling, her Gender Critical ideology, and what she means to the current Anti-Trans Movement- being seen as a very literal Saint and even icon of God by those who hold her same beliefs.

All TERF's and Gender Criticals are literally ideologically aligned with white supremacist fascist trolls. Caelan Conrad is amazing and does such good work. Please watch this.

This is the first of 3 core videos about my time investigating the Gender Critical cult. Ideally, they should be watched in order. This first video covers how one gets recruited into the cult, and the tactics they use to keep you there.

This is the second part of 3 core videos about my time investigating the Gender Critical cult. Ideally, they should be watched in order. This first video covers how one gets recruited into the cult, and the tactics they use to keep you there. The second instalment serves as proof of the terrifying reality that Gender Critical parents are as we speak conducting dangerous conversion therapy on their unconsenting children, and that they do this at the direction of the movement's thought leaders.

This is the third part of 3 core videos about my time investigating the Gender Critical cult. Ideally, they should be watched in order. This first video covers how one gets recruited into the cult, and the tactics they use to keep you there. The final video reveals how Gender Critical activists intentionally manipulate the public, and exposes anti-trans activists and icons for who they are when they feel safe enough to drop the mask of persecution. It reveals their racism, homophobia, ableism and misogyny and serves as evidence that not only is the Gender Critical ideology a cult, but a hate group.

This one hits differently, tho. As a person who grew up in Topeka around the time WBC was growing in notoriety.
For so long, they were a standard bearer for queer hate. And Megan was a HUGE part of them reaching a new generation. She convinced them to incorporate pop culture and make parodies of songs that were in heavy rotation on the radio.
They've faded a lot in prominence since she left (though I did attend a WBC counter-protest in my town last year, so definitely still active). And it's wild to see comments from younger queers who aren't super familiar with the organization. I'm glad they aren't such a sore spot, but it's somewhat unfortunate because the decentralization of queer- and transphobia via the internet has made it harder to fight.
